I've waited a few months to post this review - I'll explain why…read more Our 20 year old daughter wanted to buy her own car, paid for by her, all cash. She had her eye on used Subaru models. We spotted a 2004 Subaru Forester at West Raleigh Auto, called and drove down the same afternoon. Really liked the car, the lot owner, Patrick, was extremely friendly and professional. We planned to come back the next day to get dad's opinion and most likely buy the car. Came back following morning, test drove a second time, made an offer on car (considering how much daughter had saved for a car), Patrick happily accepted and she bought the car. We noticed a few issues with car - rear view mirror was very discolored (with age), passenger window motor broken, car needed new wiper blades and car was not clean (it had literally only been on lot 1 day when we bought it). Patrick gave us an IOU for complete detail, replace all wiper blades, new window motor and new rear view mirror. No questions asked. We took the car home and I drove it back down to Patrick following Wednesday for the detail and repairs to be made - it took the mobile detail guy a few hours to clean, Patrick lent me a car from his lot and I just drove down to Crabtree Mall and killed the time. Very generous to lend me a car! ONLY issue we have is the following week, our daughter was running a few quick errands, locally here in WF. After her third stop in about 1/2 hour, she came out of Dollar Tree and the car would NOT start. She freaked out, called us panicking and said she turned key over and it wouldn't start. Tried four tries until it started for her. OMG. Car was only two weeks old to us and wouldn't start! What?! I texted Patrick immediately, he said bring it in on Monday, I'll have my mechanic look at it. Monday, I drove car down to Patrick, he loaned me a car again and his mechanic tried over and over to replicate stalling. He could not get it to stall... Long story short - we've owned car since first week of October. The car has stalled on me once (again after running a few quick in and out errands) and stalled on daughter on December 16. Very frustrating. Car will catch after a few tries but it undermines your confidence in the car. Oh, and there seems to be an issue with the passenger window again - we had window down, car stalled, window wouldn't go back up. After a few tries, we got car started again and window back up but daughter refuses to let anyone put passenger window down now. Saddens us that she saved up hard-earned money and there are still issues with the car but what can you do? Update 1/8/18: rear view mirror that Patrick installed completely broken and fogged over. Car stalled again twice today before finally starting. Final thoughts: Would I buy from Patrick again? Maybe. Would I get the car checked out independently before I bought it? Definitely. Is he a stand-up guy? Yes, he did try to replicate issue and just couldn't get it to happen. He stood by his word on all fixes and the complete detail (guy did a bang up job cleaning her car). Hope this review helps future used car buyers!

I discovered the cd player didn't work and he had a new, upgraded radio installed complete with bluetooth. So... why am I writing a review a year and a half after the purchase of this vehicle? Well...you know teenagers... :( The good news is that my daughter is fine and no other vehicle or property was involved.... but she hydroplaned, crossed the yellow line and went off the road and into a grassy gully. Then I made a PI (payed $100) and found a water pump leakage (very old, with lots of white-pink spots, so who knows what other damage was caused to the engine). I also found an AC compressor leakage. Both repairs are expensive (~$2.5 - 3K total). Also the break-pads wear was~70% (not critical but needs attention due to the car weight). I mentioned all that to Josh and he said it is OK and the car is still in a good condition (means they did not do the inspection at all as the leakage was obvious or he NEW about the leakages)! I asked for the discount to repair out-of-pocket but he denied! (they will definitely sell it to some one else who is unaware...)

Flange makes a comeback, what happened…read more.. Johnson Lexus Durham service used to extremely reliable (barring one past episode 5 years ago)- I actually took my car for 10 years to the same service specialist. However, my recent experience has me rethinking... They incorrectly failed my 2015 Lexus on the state inspection - tire tread was 2.3 as reported by them, while low from a safety standpoint, it is not a failure by state inspection (which is at less than 2), they required replacing four tires at $1340. Which is $445 above Costco charges. Secondly the rear 12v lighter wasn't working, it was a fuse that is easily accessible they put in a charge for $120 and had told me some sort of fusible link - I didn't know what that meant initially I approved it and upon further research and their own invoice said it was a fuse. Those fuses are cheap and easily accessible and shouldn't require 1 hour of labor. Old Lexus used to do this sort of service complementary sometimes. There were multiple errors that seemed to be designed to give them more money, and I am wondering if service management has changed that pushes for more revenue and profitability margin than serving the customer. While they corrected both of these errors and reversed $120 charge and redid inspection and passed without tires having to be changed. I hope they improve and not continue this path - this is path that Honda Durham was on and I moved on from that brand. I was planning on purchasing an RX-350 due to comfort and ease of servicing with Lexus as well as the vehicles, but has me rethinking if I should go all electric with Rivian R2 instead in the future. Oh, BTW, what is that flange you ask, that was just non-existing fusible links in modern cars - its joke for that have seen old Seinfeld episode :-)

We purchased a vehicle 1.5 years ago from North Hills Motors and although there were some issues nothing out of the norm (except for a constant smell in the vehicle we could not place). We decided to upgrade to an suv and to our surprise during the trade i inspection we're told/shown the vehicle had been in an accident and was put back together poorly. In fact there was a leak in the trunk and the water was pooling under the mats (where spare tire is located) and growing mold (hence the smell), the side of the vehicle was not painted properly and the headlight was placed in the hole and held there by a piece of metal that has since rusted out. We believed NHM when they said they did a bumper to bumper check, showed us a clean car fax and signed off on the document that states no structural damage.
