I found myself with a few hours to kill on a recent trip to Phoenix. The day before I was scheduled to arrive, I booked tickets for an afternoon production because it fit into my schedule perfectly. Early in the morning of the show, my flight was canceled. I had to rebook a flight for later in the day. I immediately emailed eTix, the ticket processor, to request a refund. I received a confirmation of my refund request immediately and did not hear from them again. I emailed them again a few weeks later. They told me my "request could not be approved." The said the Terms and Conditions I agreed to during the purchase (tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable) must be upheld. They went on to say "these are policies set in place by the venue or promoter." The box the online eTix order made me check included a "Purchase Policy" which states: "Policies set forth by our clients may prohibit Etix from issuing exchanges or refunds after a ticket has been purchased." *May prohibit* It wasn't clear that the tickets I purchase were non-refundable and non-exchangeable because I agreed to conflicting terms. I asked eTix how a customer is to know whether their client may (or may not) prohibit eTix from issuing exchanges or refunds, and I was unable to locate this information from Orpheum Theater. I asked if they had inquired from their client if they could issue a refund - or if I could inquire about it. They responded that they sent the theater an inquiry the day I requested my refund and they claim it was forwarded to me the same day. "We'd be happy to get him into the 6:30pm show tonight. There are no refunds/exchanges." In the first sentence they indicate they will admit me into the 6:30 show despite my ticket being for the matinee. And the second sentence contradicts the first by claiming there are no refunds/exchanges even though they are essentially exchanging my ticket from an earlier show to a later show. The email eTix claims to have forwarded the day of the show was a screenshot indicating it came from an individual, not from support@eTix.com, as all other emails have been. The timestamp highlighted on the screenshot of the email they claim to have forwarded does not line up with other text, rather it straddles the lines of the to and from email addresses, which is quite unusual - like maybe someone fabricated the whole thing. I have asked for the original email to be forwarded because a search of my inbox, spam, and deleted messages does not find any messages with this individual's email address, signature line, pronouns, etc. The whole situation leaves me with a very bad impression of the service provider, and by extension, the Theater that hired this service provider. If you can avoid purchasing through eTix, do that. read more
