Huge portions! The service could have been a little faster, but I understand it takes a while. It's a clean spot and great location on the campus. I wish the food was a bit less greasy... but it's college pizza what can you expect!

D.P. Dough is my favorite late night snack. The calzones are double the size of what they need to be, but so worth the price. The Mac Daddy calzone is the perfect calzone after a night of drinking, and brings back all the college memories.

Review Visit: November 10th, 2012 The dough here is worth the dough. Back in the early days of traveling, DP Dough was recommended to my from one of my friends. Being an interesting sounding pizza place and my voracious love of pizza, it was an obvious choice to go ASAP. I grabbed my friend Matt and my girlfriend-at-the-time and headed towards Bloomington-Normal. We parked along the side of the street and wandered around until we found it. At this time, I was still new to traveling and not familiar with the layout of new towns. I have learned a lot since then. Upon walking in, I have to admit that I was not impressed. The place seemed a bit run down and was in the middle of a renovation or something. The 3 of us gave each other uneasy looks as we discussed if we wanted to try it out despite the restaurant having seen better days. Obviously we ended up sticking it out and trying the goods. We came here blind. We didn't know the menu or what they offered. It seems that D.P. specializes in calzones. If you don't know what that is, let me fill you in. It's this taco shaped chunk of dough that is stuffed with pizza toppings and goodies. It's baked like a pie and eaten however you desire. See the image below to get a good idea. I haven't had many calzones in my life so this was not just a new place but also a new tasting experience as well. With our orders placed, we took a seat in the only area that wasn't blocked off due to renovations. It was a small dining area behind the wall menu we are standing in front of in the top photo. I don't remember what Matt or Erin ordered but I got something along the lines of a meat lovers or a pepperoni-loaded one. Looking at the menu, it was either the Italian Zone or the Roni Zoni as those two would've been my pick of choice. The food didn't take long to cook as we had our food out within 10-15 minutes. Expectations were mixed as my friend Mark was adamant about his suggestion of this place. Not trying to judge the food by the look of the restaurant, I took that first hungry bite without a terrible amount of hesitation. Both Erin and Matt waited to see my reaction before digging in. That moment between the first bite and my taste buds talking to my brain left them hanging. Then a smile emerged on my face as I went in for more. They took that as a sign that the food was good to go. My gosh, was that calzone delicious. We savored every bite as the pizza taco pie was oozing in flavor and taste. I don't think I've ever felt so uneasy about a place and then have it turn out to be killer good. Between Flingers and D.P. Dough, the twin cities might just be the place to go to get amazing pizza.

Went to D.P. Dough late at night and ordered right away. Large seating indoors and very clean. Ordered the Spinner and Reggie Calzones with nacho cheese and marinara sauce on the side. They came out relatively quickly and tasted phenomenal. Hands down the best calzones and service I've had, and it's great to see how late it's open.

    Breadsticks with parm garlic topping

Came in to grab lunch when in the area and had a craving for a calzone. To be fair it was a weekend with about 1/3 of the place being occupied. Ordered a build your own calzone and breadstick combo that cost $11, so not bad for the amount of food you get. Calzone is decent, but could have used more filling. The outside was also a bit soggy, so could have been baked a little longer or had less butter rub on it. Breadsticks however were great. Nice amount of garlic and parm on top and were perfectly seasoned. Would definitely order these again if in the area. Drinks are Jones soda, so nice throwback. Service here though is terrible. Slow, rude, and act like they could care less about customers. Could have just been my experience, but considering other reviews, I am guessing not.

    My order!

When you order a slider, don't think you're getting some tiny sandwich--this thing is full-size and loaded. The kale slaw adds the perfect amount of flavor and crunch, especially when paired with Dave's sauce... such a good combo. The fries are also fantastic--almost perfect. I personally like mine just a little crispier, but the seasoning on them is so good it doesn't exactly matter lol And yes... we're talking about the pickles too. Perfect pickles. They add that extra bite and flavor that pushes the sandwich right over the edge to perfection. Oh and I almost forgot to mention my son wanted to try the macaroni and cheese so bad that he went up there and ordered a side of it, we all shared it. It was good, the noodles tasted just a little bit well done, and it smelled like velveeta. This place definitely gets crowded, but for good reason--it's a hot, popular spot and people know their chicken is fresh and amazing. There's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, and I absolutely love the graffiti artwork on the walls. The bright, bold colors are so inviting, it almost makes you want to come inside before you even smell the food. If you haven't been here yet, do yourself a favor and get over here and check it out. It's great!

I had to use the restroom and it wasn't awful, but certainly not something you would brag about. I was surprised at how many people were working behind the counter. This was Sunday around 3. Not exactly rush hour, but they were busy. I ordered the two slider combo and a vanilla shake. I ordered 1 mild and 1 hot slider. I had no way to tell which was which when I opened the box. I ended up eating the mild first. This really isn't special. The flavor is lacking. The hot was pretty hot. My head started sweating immediately. Anything hotter would have been a mistake. Again the chicken doesn't have a lot of flavor it's just hot. The fries were okay, and overall this was a lot of food. The chicken pieces were big. The shake tastes like any other shake. Honestly o would rather have Canes and probably will be one and done on Dave's. Unless you just really need some hot chicken I would look elsewhere.

The store in Normal is about a 15 minute drive off Interstate 74 from the south side of town. I started with 2 Chicago-style hot dogs. There was a pickle spear, a tomato slice, and some peppers in with my hot dog, on a poppy seed bun. I devoured them. Then I let my wife know where I was eating. She suggested I try a hot and wet, and the chocolate cake. The hot dogs were excellent so I decided to try them. I wasn't sure what a hot and wet was so I asked the cashier who took my order. She said "I got you." It was a slow-roasted Italian beef sandwich with hot peppers and dipped in the beef's natural "gravy" that dripped off it while it was roasting. I opened the package and started eating immediately. There was no stopping until it was gone. The photo in their online menu is pretty accurate. I didn't pause long enough to take one myself. Then there was the cake. If you like chocolate cake, this is a no-brainer. It was definitely non-dry. It was likely the best cake I''ve eaten all year. The restaurant was nice and clean, with someone cleaning up after customers as soon as tables were vacated. The cashiers were friendly, and the woman calling out the numbers was extremely friendly. I saw her offer to help a woman across the dining area from the pick-up window to package up a large to-go order. She also noticed that I went back for the cake. I will have to stop here again the next time I'm passing through.

However once you get to the door you may have issues. The doors were so heavy that I couldn't open it, then the restroom door was the same. The toilet was so low and the sinks were tall and I had to really reach for the soap and faucet. Thank goodness for friendly people helping strangers. There is only a diaper changing station in the woman's room so thats a disappointment. The food is what you expect but you need to be super clear with what you want because the cashiers ring up the orders so fast. I got the signature sandwich with sweet peppers, onion rings, Chicago dog, and a signature shake. The onion rings were a little too crispy and tasted like oil. They do have plant based food items but check out their chocolate cake slices too. There was plenty of seating for parties of 1 to 15 so bring the team in. There are tables and booths and there are high chairs too. The old Americana vibe was interesting, so great to play I spy games. The restaurant is huge and hard to hear your order being called, so stay tuned in before sitting down.

I wanted to give 4 stars cause of the parking lot but instead just making sure you know, parking is a struggle. Once we finally got a parking place we went inside and placed our order. I noticed there was a lot of people that were happy and enjoying their dinner. There's not a lot of seating inside, I've definitely seen pictures of bigger Canes restaurants but it seems like it could be enough if people are in and out when they're finished eating. We didn't have to wait very long for our food and it was all fresh and hot! I enjoy the flavor of the chicken and also the cane sauce. The fries are okay but it'd be nice to try out some seasoning on them I'm not sure if this restaurant offers something like that. I love the art on the walls and I noticed the other two canes that I have been to have the brick wall painted with the canes logo. I love the ambience and all of the decor in the restaurant. I'd like to say that I would come back but they're building one in Peoria so I'll be able to have it there next. Thanks for making my meal fresh and ready!
