I had a really good experience with D Movers.. I had a complicated small move which involved moving stuff from two apartments and combining into one apt. I called D Movers which I found on yelp, I was skeptical but they had positive reviews so I called. the guy was really nice, understood what I needed. He even called me the day before to confirm. Damir and his movers are as good as it gets! I have lived in NY for seven years and the three times I've moved, I've rented a u-Haul and had friends help. This time I didn't have that option and turned to my friends and colleagues for help. One of them suggested Damir and she said he'd moved her two or three times (I can't remember now) and that he was dependable and reliable. I'm so glad I asked her because I couldn't have asked for nicer or more careful movers. I'm a hands on kind of girl and they were so nice to insist I just take it easy and that they would be careful with the delicate things I was worried about (art, champagne glasses, and some carnival headpieces). When they had finished putting all of my items in their van, I told them I would meet them over there as I had planned to Uber over to my new place. Damir insisted I ride with them and they were kind enough to make room for me and the few things I had wanted to carry along (food and my purse). We had issues getting into the new apartment initially as it was night time and there wasn't anyone there to let us in the freight elevator, but the men were kind and didn't complain. They put everything very neatly in storage and even arranged it so I could use the dresser I had to put in there for storage and whatnot. I highly recommend Damir and D movers. Demir sounded very nice throughout the whole process. Was on time and everything was packed great. I get to the payment part and he tells me I need to tip his guys $100 total. Absolutely crazy! I can understand tipping the movers but he charges a full hour for transportation- we moved 7 blocks. Shouldn't take a full hour for that. Total initial quote was around 500. Ended up paying $820!!! Definitely shop around and ask all questions before hiring these guys. Edit: No, you absolutely pushed for a full $100 tip - It was NOT "suggested." Also, you gauged the top of my desk in two spots and broke the bottom of my couch. I get that it took longer than estimated but don't push me for a mandatory amount for a tip. Originally, I had planned to move from 18th street to the Upper East Side by myself with a UHaul van, but after loading everything from the 5th floor, I knew I needed help. I just signed up for Yelp so that I could leave this review. After receiving inflated quote upon inflated quote by movers with less-than-glowing reviews, I booked these guys on a recommendation from a co-worker. I couldn't have made a better decision. I worked out the details of the move with Damir, who aside from being courteous, professional and friendly, was also extremely intent on saving me money. He made suggestions for my packing so that we could be as efficient as possible on moving day (because they charge by the hour). He recommended a smaller moving vehicle to save me *even more* money, and then went above and beyond to make it work with all of the furniture and personal items I was moving. On the day of the move, he showed up 10 minutes early to park and get ready, and from that point until the very last piece of furniture was unloaded into storage, he and his partner never stopped moving--despite the fact that they charge on the hour. Moving is definitely one of the most stressful things a person can do, and with all of the little snags and hiccups I'd run into since starting the process, *what a relief* to not have had to worry about the actual move.
