I haven never been moved to leave a review. This is the third time I order from D'Cuba. I drove passed it before and made a mental note to try it out. One day my boyfriend and I were looking through Uber eats and saw D'Cuba! BOY O BOY!!! The food is the bomb dot com!!! Can I just say if you want to wait 45 minutes for a server to come by to take a drink order than this is the place for you. The whole night there was a fiasco. They served half of our table their entrees and then came back about 10 minutes later to see how everything was still without the rest of the dinners. We had to ask several times if the other entrees were on their way out. Thank god we ordered several pitchers of cocktails I think that was the only reason we were able to find some humor in the whole experience The food here is decent, not amazing and not bad but so not worth the wait. read more

Tripped in here after doctors appt. Totally unassuming from outside and clean homey interior. Don't bother with appetizers or extra bread...cause the entrees are HUGE. "Did you grab the leftovers?" "No, did you?" "No, do you want to go back?" "Meh." This sums up the quality of food at D'Cuba. The waitress was terrible, never so much as smiled when we thanked her repeatedly for our food. While the appetizer was tasty (tostones with roasted pork) the food got consistently worse throughout the evening. Hubs said his chicken fajitas tasted just like a La Choy frozen stir fry meal. His dessert (guava with cheese) was overly sweetened, syrupy guava FROM A CAN with slices of chihuahua cheese. Hisf frozen margarita, while very strong, was a very awkward blend of blended and on the rocks, meaning there were HUGE chunks of ice throughout. My steak and shrimp fajitas were much the same, tasted kinda frozen. I got the coconut cake for dessert, which was very good but had buttercream frosting, which didn't seem right to me. In fact, there is a lot about this place that just doesn't seem quite right. For all the restaurants in Chicago, I don't see why we would make a return visit to D'Cuba. read more

I came here with my girlfriend. For appetizers we had empanadas de carne, croquetas de pollo, and tostones al mojo de ajo, and we were served toasted bread and butter. For our main course we had a jibarito de lechón(pork) and another of de bistec(steak). I can honestly say that everything was amazing!!! If I could I'd give them 10 stars but unfortunately "Yelp" only allows 5star rating... We will definitely be returning with friends/family. read more

I was there the same night as Evelyn. It must be an off night. No way this place got so many good reviews with slow and neglectful service. I disagree, the waitress was doing her best. True no one was helping her and yes that is the restaurants problem and someone should have came out of the kitchen to make sure the people were tended to. Our dinner took over 2 1/2 hours because of the slow service. The food warrants 3.5-4 stars. My pork was tasty, the potato balls with meat (basically shepards pie in a ball) were yummy. My mango shake once i got after ordering 45 min ago was good too. They just need to speed up the food service and make sure they are properly staffed. I would give it another try but if it is as bad as that night, I will walk out too. read more

Actually a pretty nice restaurant here. And the food is good as well. For an appetizer I had the shrimp tostones, which were actually tostones shaped like cups and filled with shrimp in a cocktail/marinara like sauce. That was tasty and nice and fresh. After that I had the Ham Croquetas sandwich which was good as well, very tasty. The only negative was the Arroz Congri which was either not fresh or overdone as there was more crunch than there should be in a rice dish. And the service was slow, 30 minutes to get my appetizer. In fairness there was only 1 chef and 1 hostess as this appears to be a family run joint. But overall i'll give it a shot again since I enjoyed most of it. But the service and bad rice knocks it down from 4 stars to 3. read more

This place is WONDERFUL! The food is awesome, the mojitos are excellent, and they have great Cuban music playing in the background. I went with a friend and we had Bacalao empanadas, the seafood salad, she had the Ropa Vieja, and I had the Pescado Al Sobre Uso. I have never had anything from this restaurant that I didn't like, from the appetizers to the dessert. My favorite is the Lechon, and the portions are huge, It takes days to finish a full meal, especially when you've had empanadas, papas rellenas, and mariquitas for appetizers. Worst experience ever. Arrived at 3:30. They stated that food would take about 40 minutes. It did not. More like an hour and 45 minutes. They kept coming and telling me that the order was almost up, but it took me to ask multiple times about the order for it to come out. With the amount of time that it took, I could have very well done it myself and save me some time and disappointment. Do yourself a favor and do not come here. They are plenty of other restaurants nearby with the same or better food. No apology was offered neither. Awful just awful. read more

I came here once with my boyfriend because we were craving Cuban food. We ordered two cafes con leche, a cuban and a steak sandwich. That's all. We waited for about an hour and we only received our cafe because we reminded the waitress that we had been waiting for a while. Well, about 5 other groups came in after us and got their food before us. My bf and I were sitting there, with our stomachs rumbling and not getting any attention from the waitress. By then we were pissed so we just told the waitress that we had to go and if she could please cancel our order. When we had arrived there was only one table besides us. Once we were leaving there was about 5 full tables and everybody was getting their food. The waitress was very nonchalant about us cancelling our orders, she didn't seem to care that we had been there before everybody and not gotten our food. We ordered two sandwiches, a fairly simple meal compared to everybody around us getting ceviches, tostones, steaks, etc. The chef walked out of the kitchen and was having lively conversations with some of the groups. Dude, seriously where is our food? I walked out of there mad and hungry! What a bad combination. Fix your customer service D' Cuba! Your staff should be working with a sense of urgency and should be understanding of their customers. Best Cuban food in Chicago! Atmosphere is wonderful with Cuban music and beautifully decorated. Fresh food, love the pork sandwich, and the Ox tails are to die for. My favorite is the black rice. The chicken soup is excellent with chunks of chicken, potato, great flavor. The baked chicken is super juicy and melts in your mouth. Everything there is good. Ok so i purchased a Travelzoo deal for this restaurant and it was the greatest decision ever!! The food was completely amazing!!!!!! Im still drooling thinking about their coconut flan. There mojitos were exactly perfect just like a mojito should taste, none of that artificial flavor. The shrimp ceviche was tooo die for. I had to literally force myself to stop eating so that i would have room for my steak. When my t-bone arrived it was cooked to perfection. The meat was soo tender i didnt even need a steak nice and marinated so perfectly my tastebuds were dancing. That entree also came with garlic shrimp which were perfect. they had the garlic flavor but it wasnt overkill. All in all it was one of the best meals ive had in a long time. Its a little bit of a ways to travel without a car but definately worth it. I cant wait for my next trip back there!!! yummmm read more

The food was fresh, tasty, authentic and just delicious. My 5yr old loved his meal all the same, we are Caribbean so he is use to eating rice, beans, etc. They don't have a children's menu. I ordered the breaded chicken,($13)it came with a decent size of rice, small cup of beans and 3 pieces of maduros. The chicken was huge, I probably ate 1/4. I probably would've ate more if it wasn't lacking seasoning. The crust on it was different than what I'm used to as well. The rice was ok, same with maduros, I've had better. The beans were delicious though! I also ordered the yuca frita $4 and a banana shake $3.50. The yuca was ehh, like eating cardboard. The shake was pretty good. The place has a mix of good and not so good, I ordered from grub hub and ended up spending $29 for delivery bc it had a minimum order limit of $20.. So I was in the mood for Cuban food and decided to try D'Cuba. Beautiful scenery but The food was lackluster at most. Zero flavor, I order tilapia and to my surprise I got a whole fried fish which was a little intimidating to eat. I've been food tasting places to host a graduation party and this place by far outdid the others. I ordered a combination plate, Fiesta Cubana, which consisted of: Lechon -I ordered this instead of the menu listing of bistec palomilla, only because this is what I plan on catering & I thought it'd be wise to taste it. Honestly, it was ok. It was a bit cold by the time I got to it and I think that might have been a factor to my taste buds. Ropa vieja- the most amazing flavors, shredded beef,nice and tender. The meat was NOT chewy or rough to swallow as I've experienced at other places. This is what (in my mind) all shredded beef should feel like in your mouth! Masas -which I learned it to be a lean piece of pork meat that tastes like chicharron and is drizzled with garlic sauce- NOT maza from a tamal hehe. SUPERB! Shrimp in sauce -nice big shrimp in tomato sauce. Yuca con mojo -super delicious! I've always had yuca fried so a steamed (I think) yuca with lime juice and onion marinate was an AMAZING surprise Congri -white rice with black beans mixture...so light and fluffy & perfectly seasoned. Best rice I've had since my grandmother Platano maduro -this was a choice between the banana chips or sweet plantain, I chose the sweet ones and they were PERFECT! Nicely caramelized and crisp on the outside and so sweet and soft inside. The waitresses were very helpful & efficient, the place was quaint & cozy (with a nice, clean restroom) not fit to host my 100 people, however the food was so finger-lickin' good I'm sure to cater (if the price is right). The wait was Long, but I figured it was because I overheard some people were coming in with coupons. I love this place. My partner and I go there at least once per month. The food is great. I love their Cuban sandwich and their black beans and white rice are awesome. I knew I was going to like this place the first time that we went and when I asked for hot sauce, they brought out home-made hot sauce. Their hot sauce is spicy hot and has a very good flavor. Recently, I had a few people from work over to my house. I had food catered by D' Cuba and everyone loved it. We did order empanadas and croquettas once. They were nothing out of the ordinary. Their empanadas are somewhat expensive (and small) so I wouldn't recommend them. I have not had any of their alcoholic beverages so I cannot comment on them. They do have real good batidos though. I have been there twice now and have enjoyed it both times. They have a delicious ropa veja sandwich as well as a jibarito that differs slightly from the other jibaritos I havetried at other places. I found their white rice and black beans to be good as well. The rice had the perfect texture and the beans were seasoned just right.
