they aren't honest with the prices. complain about curly hair. the lady who picks up the phone and cash register isn't genuine. please always double check your prices because they up charge and give you short change. Very bad energy for a business read more

i came in at 10:12am and its 1:22pm and all they've done is wash my hair. they do not take appointments because they like being able to pick who they do first no matter how long the other people could be waiting. i've already seen 3 people who came after me get their hair done first, its frustrating. read more

First let me preface this review with the most important statement ever.... D Cari charges $12 dollars for a wash and set and they charge $15 for a Wash, Set, and Blow Dry (A little more if your hair is long). So really, you need not read any more of this review. You really could hop into your vehicle and drive over to D Cari and spend less than $20 on a service that normally runs you about $40. Like seriously and quite frankly....who the heck can be picky about a service that is only 12 dollars?!? Who?!? Well....me. I'll give the pros first. Pros: ~Its only 15 dollars for a wash, set, and blow dry. Did I say this already? Yea? Okay. Moving on. ~My hair looks amazing. Let me note that I have not had a relaxer in ten weeks! And my hair is still bone straight. ~ I was in there and outta there! Arrived at 8:30am and left at 10:00am ~ All of the stylists are sweethearts. Cons: ~ Okay, Im Ten weeks post relaxer and what you can NOT do and what you will NOT do is try and take a fine tooth comb and rake it through my head. Not only is it painful... its almost physically impossible sweetheart. ~ She shampooed my hair so many times and with so much force I was afraid I may not have any hair left on my head O_o seriously ~Once you blow dry my hair once... there is no need to repeatedly blow dry my relaxed hair... again and again....it just can't take that amount of heat. ~ No Bells and frills in here. Wash. A little condish. And thats it. But for 15 dollars... beggars cant be choosers. At the end of the day if you enjoy a good "dominican blow out" they do a really good job and its crazy cheap! They are very fast compared to other Latino salons I've visited. I personally could not be a regular there...But, I'll definitely re visit D Cari again. read more

Although my hair looked good when I left, it wasn't finished. D'cari seems like a great neighborhood salon, but if you're in a rush (& by rush I mean don't have an entire day to devote to hair styling) or expect someone to communicate wait times with you, this place isn't going to be your cup of tea. The salon is predominately Spanish-speaking and they make no attempt to accommodate your lack of comprehension (or at least attempt to learn a few English words related to their services). My high school Spanish vocabulary was no bueno - thus making communication impossible. Luckily, toward the end of my visit there was a patron willing to translate. Had I gotten my entire hair done, I know it would have looked fabulous (my family frequents this salon), but 3 hours later and my hair still not complete is unacceptable to me - my time is $$! FYI: I came in for a relaxer, trim, and blowout. I didn't get the trim and my hair wasn't done drying because my stylist was working on two other women simultaneously. The relaxer lasted and my hair was laid for a few weeks which is longer than my at-home, box relaxers. My scalp, on the other hand, had never been so brutally massaged/washed before, which did feel really good and slightly relaxing at the time, but now I have dandruff and I don't know which product used upset my scalp. My total charge was something like $70, not bad, but for incomplete service there should have been an accommodation. The prices are moderate because unless your just getting a wash, they're not any cheaper than all the other local salons, they're just average. read more

I have been going to this salon ever since 6th grade. I am about to graduate high school now. My hair type is about a 4c and I have been natural for about 3 years (I trimmed my hair to about an 1inch below my shoulders) My hair is very kinky curly when washed. I skip the roller set part because there is no point in roller setting if it wasn't stretching anything. I always Wash, Deep condition, and blow dry. Which is 35$ total. (Wash and blow dry=30 and 5$ for the deep conditioner) Hunny, let me tell you, my hair comes out laid as if I had a perm. My hair is super silky after e everything. She blow drys it after the conditioner and flat irons it. Love this place. read more

This salon is awesome!!! I read all the reviews and was enticed by the prices. When i went in the ladies were all VERY friendly and the location was clean (passed the first two of my tests!) I got a wash and blow dry and let me tell you... my hair was silky for nearly two weeks after. Marie is awesome! I have been back 2 other times including getting a relaxer and I am quite pleased in how my hair turned out every single time. Very healthy and they use quality products - no need to bring your own like some of the NY salons. No offense to black hair salons, but I cant understand why they arent able to give the same level of service and SPEED at the same prices. For basic services, this is my new home. Dominican blowouts are the best in the world! read more

My wash, blow dry, flat iron & trim was on point!! I definitely recommend this salon.

I have been searching all over Boston for a place to get my hair done as I'm used to from my home town in Brooklyn. After living in Boston for a year and a half and trying out almost every salon from Brighton to Cambridge that had experience doing black hair, I have finally found the one! D Cari is not only affordable ( $35 for a touch up on Wed, $40 every other day) the stylists were nice and got me in and out of there in no time. It is now 3 weeks into my relaxer and my hair still looks as if it was just done yesterday. This never happens! The only stylist who has been able to achieve this was the one from home and I found myself frequently making the 4 hr trip back to NY to get my fix. Needless to say their products are of great quality and this will be my new permanent spot. read more

My hair came out beautiful. The price is great, I paid 45 for wash and set, flat iron, blow dry and trim and I was happy with the results. It's your typical Dominican salon, and that is one reason why I looked it. No frills but my hair turned out good which is all that mattered to me. read more

First off I need to warn everyone that D'Cari is not a high end hair salon by any means! But for a $12 roller set or a $15 blow out it gets no better.. They are not much of product junkies so if you want some nourishment I suggest you bring your own. A ipod is also a very good thing to have on hand considering they are speaking Spanish and doing the bachata in between clients. I love them I go every week, weekdays I'm usually in and out Saturday depending on how early I go I'm usually out in less than an hr and a half (and anyone who knows city salons sometimes you're in there at least 3 hrs on the weekends) so no complaints there I absolutely recommend! read more

I recommend this salon. My hair looked flawless. When I walked in, everyone got quiet but I knew it was just because I was not a familiar face and that's how culture works. I am racially ambiguous and they couldn't tell if I was Dominican or not until I spoke. That said, they could work on being a little more welcoming of new clients but its not to the extent of coldness or rudeness because they were very nice once I spoke. I value customer service though. Greet people the moment they walk in. Play music in the background and turn the TV down. Offer clients water, tea, or coffee. That's how you get referrals and new business. The salon appeared clean and busy. I disliked that the salon chair I sat in had a broken footrest, so there was no place for my legs to go when she spun the chair to work on my head. I opted not to do roller set because I was pressed for time, so I got a wash and blow dry. I never get my ends cut on the first visit to a new place, usually by the third visit I decide, but I think I'd be comfortable having this done here. They did a great job on my hair. I got a blowout and style (curled with the flatiron) and she pin curled it up to protect it from the rain/sleep. The shampoo massage was awesome and felt great. I recommend bringing your own shampoo, conditioner, comb and brush if you feel apprehensive of using their stuff. I didn't but wished I had because I was unfamiliar with the brand of shampoo they used, and I use shampoos with specific natural ingredients and scents. But their product did fine in a rush. The stylist worked quickly and got the job done super fast, this had to be one of the quickest salon visits I ever had. My hair came out silky and gorgeous. I will be coming back, despite the fact its not close to home. read more

Okay so I'm a hairstylist and I come here because I have really curly hair and sometime Im really lazy to blow dry and straightening it .. So this place has some really good stylist but the last time I went. Omg the Dominican that very fare skin basically white did my hair. I had a deep treatment which was an extra 5 dollars and a wash and blow dry.. She took the longest time and I was not even happy at all.. I had to go home and straighten my hair over because she seem like she just wanted to play with my hair. On top of that u had my manager trim my hair today because I feel some dead ends and my manager told me the lady at the D cari definitely fried my hair because they had white bulbs on the ends.. I will never go to that women again... If your going to go there go to SONA only she is the best .. read more

I didn't want to do this review but I think other people need to be warned before stepping into this salon. I had one of the worst hair salon experiences of my life in his place. I walk in at around 10:30 am and the place is packed. I look around for someone who seems to work there. I go over to someone doing hair to tell her I want a wash and set. There was only one seat left in the place that was in a corner and she told me to sit there (this was the thing that started a whole domino effect). This seat was on the entire opposite side from the hairwashing sinks. I sit and sit and sit for about 30 minutes. Three new customers come in and since there are no seats they kinda just stand in the middle of the salon. When a hairwashing sink becomes available it was meant to be my turn but i guess the hairwashing lady didn't see me sitting in the corner and so she starts washing one of the new girls' hair. I get up and tell her that I need to be next but she shoos me away and tells me that these girls were here before me. I tell her I've been here longer but she doesn't believe me. (Keep in mind that most of the ppl who work here don't speak English and I was trying to mix together the bit of spanish i know together with English.) I go over to the lady who I first talked to so she can convince the hairwasher that I was here first. They speak in Spanish and based on body language I think she told her what I wanted her to. But once she was done washing the girls hair she motions to the 2nd of the new girls to come over. I'm not one for confrontation but I had now been waiting for about an hour and a half so I was getting pissed at this lady trying to snub me of my spot in line once again. I tell her it's my turn but she keeps saying the other girls were there before me. You can imagine how frustrating it is to be basically told you are lying when you know you are telling the truth. Now all the hairdressers start arguing loudly in spanish. It seems like the salon is split in two. Half the employees are on my side and half the employees think the other girl was here first. The way they were yelling and carrying on was so dramatic and unprofessional. I've taken up to level 4 of spanish in college so I know when people are being rude or talking s**t about me and all that and more was happening. To make it worse the 2nd new girl obviously didn't see me in the corner either so she's arguing on her own behalf saying she was here first too. It was all a big, unprofessional mess. Finally one hairdresser takes pity on me and tells me she will take care of me. This brings me to the 2nd big problem with this salon. They have an attitude about natural kinky hair that is disgusting and uncalled for in a hairsalon. As soon as I first sat down in the salon I could sense the hairdressers looking at my hair and it seemed like nobody wanted me in their chair, so when this "kind" hairdresser started washing my hair i thought "oh finally someone who's not a hair type elitist" WRONG. Although she washed, blowdried and flatironed my hair and it came out nice, it seemed like she was being very stingy with products as well like she didn't want to waste them on my hairtype. She also didn't do what I wanted. I wanted rollers but she told me they can't do rollers on my hairtype (3C/4A). I've gotten my hair done at many dominican salons and they all did just fine putting my hair into rollers. They also charged me extra for my kinky hair I think, it was $35. Note to yelpers: DONT GO HERE but if you absolutely must, here are some pointers #1 they are stingy with conditioner so bring your own #2 they will try to rake a fine toothed comb through your curly hair (wtf?) #3 brush up on your spanish skills #4 make yourself known when you walk in, stand by the hairwashing sinks #5 they want you to tip the hairwasher and your hairdresser! (ummm...no) #6 if your hair is kinky maybe come in with a twist out/braid out/blow out to lessen the dirty looks read more

Love this Dominican salon! Quick service and very inexpensive. I'm natural and also have 4c hair. They did an excellent job with my wash and blow. It really looks like I have a relaxer and I don't. I was in and out in less than 2hrs and the salon was full. If you don't know any Spanish, you'll have a hard time communicating your needs. I would only recommend coming here for wash and rollos or blow dry. You can also bring your own shampoo and conditioner. There are Tuesday and Wednesday specials. Great bargain for anyone looking to straighten their natural hair. read more

Dont even know why this place has good reviews. You get what you pay for, cheap prices equals cheap services. This has got to be the most ghetto Dominican salon I've ever been to. It's so pack with no place to sit. People bumping into one another. There was this extremely ratchet hoodrat in the back don't know if she worked there or not cuz she wasn't there to get her hair done and kept cracking jokes with the owner. This chick was EXTRA LOUD calling customers Bitches if they messed with the owner UNPROFESSIONAL. This place has no order first come first served. Sometimes they don't even remember who came in first. This place is not clean whatsoever. The lady who was doing my hair kept coughing in my face. Definitely will not come back here. read more

So after reading the previous review, I felt confident to try this salon, as she was very thorough in her assessment. She was right on the money. the salon is clean, I thought that they were efficient and you cant beat the price! I went last Wednesday evening and I was in and out in just under 2 hours! I will definitely make this a spot to go to if i just need a quick wash and blow dry! read more

First I had an appointment with a certain stylist at 8:30am when I got there at 8:20am she was just getting there which is fine of course. Someone else who walked in before me had her hair washed already and went to the stylist and it is as about 8:40am now. By the time I finished getting my hair washed it was 8:53am and now the stylist is busy with someone who didn't have an appointment. Then the comes in motions for me to sit in her chair. I told them I had an appointment with the other stylist and they asked if I wanted to wait for her to finish. Hell no, that's not how it works. If your appointment is on time you take them first and the walk-in should wait. Now I'm just like fuck it because I have to go to a meeting at work and can't sit here all day waiting to get my hair done which is why I had an 8:30am appointment in the first place. Now they're talking shit in Spanish when they don't even know if you understand them or not which I do. Smh...now it's a click fest with everyone putting in their opinions when I don't have to deal with this anywhere else because they understand what appointments are for. Needless to say of course I'm not happy because all stylists don't do hair the same and I had to settle because I didn't have time to wait. So don't waste your time making an appointment because they don't honor them or don't understand the point of making one. read more

I went to this salon yesterday for a roller set. I happened to be driving by and saw the $15 roller set special, and that's a price you can't beat. So I go in and wait about 10 minutes to get my hair washed which was perfectly fine. The woman who washed my hair was a bit aggressive but I'm used to it so that was fine too. Then here's where it south. I sat down in one of the lady's chair and she convinced me to get a blowout instead of the roller set I initially planned for. I saw one of the other customer's hair who just had a blowout and it was slayed so I went with it. She used absolutely no heat protectant on my hair or anything before she started blow-drying it. I have 4B/C type hair and it's very sensitive to heat so red flag #1. After she finishes blow-drying my hair she sprays on heat protectant (pointless at this point). Then asks if I want to wrap it and I agreed. Then when I went to pay and my initial $15 hair service turned into $31. I was livid after later taking down my wrapped hair and it was completely dull and not thoroughly blow dried. I will never go back to this salon, I paid 30 bucks for something I could've done at home. read more

I came here for the very first time the weekend before christmas. I was nervous because I know the weekend before a big holiday means packed salons. I was alittle mad because they told me the salon opened at 8am so when I got there... at 8am...I noticed people were already getting washed and some were under the dryer. One lady came in and asked what time they opened and they said 7:30am. I purposly came in at 8 so I could be one of the first ones in cause I had plans at 1pm. Even though that made me alittle bitter,I was asked what I wanted done and I was immediatly to the sink and getting prepped for a wash and roller set plus blow dry. My hair came out BEAUTIFUL and I was out by 11am. mind you im black and Im kinda in the need for my next touch up ,but when I left there it looked like I just got a perm. The only downside is almost everyones english in there is horrible but as long as they understand what I want, and do it right, thats all that matters to me. I will be back soon this is my new spot. read more
