Finally! After many years, we made it back to Copper Penny! On our return trip from Southport we…read morestopped in downtown to grab a bite before heading home. We started walking around and my wonderful wife suggested Copper Penny. Absolutely! There was a short wait for a table, but we didn't mind. The inside is almost like we remember it. We did notice the menu is a lot smaller. The last time we dined here was around ten years ago. Definitely plenty of options. We went with the onion ring appetizer, Cobb salad, and the BBQ Burger. The atmosphere of Copper Penny is the same. Definitely missed this place. After a short wait our food was brought out. Everything was delicious. This is just an update, but we still love Copper Penny and will continue to return.

It was a little embarrassed after spending $192, on food and drinks for 4, with glasses still full of alcohol when we're were asked to leave. We were told that they are enforcing a 90 min in restaurant visit...to the point where they don't care if we had finished our beer/alcohol...clearly they just wanted us out. I've been to a lot of restaurants all over the world but this was the first time in my life that I was asked to leave...we weren't loitering we only wanted to finish our drinks before leaving...the person didn't look at our situation...was very black and white, "you've been here more than 90mins". Their food is good, they are as popular as ever but clearly not a place for people who want to chat and hang out...copper penny is a restaurant not a hangout spot...to me that's loud and clear. As someone who isn't in Wilmington often I rely on my previous experience as a stating point to my ( restaurant) choice. This experience was so jarring that I'll never recommend copper penny to anyone. The food is good but they really don't want or need non local business!

It feels warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed without trying too hard. Service was friendly and relaxed -- Jess took great care of us throughout the evening. There was a small hiccup with the chicken order initially, but it was corrected quickly and professionally, which says a lot about how the team operates under pressure. Expediting could have been a little tighter, but the recovery was handled well. The food was the real star. The tuna appetizer was outstanding, and the fried chicken was incredibly moist and flavorful -- even though the crust was darker than expected and looked overcooked at first glance, it turned out to be tender and delicious once we cut into it. Biscuits were excellent, mac and cheese was rich and satisfying, and the grits were perfectly done. Desserts -- the brownie and apple cobbler -- were absolutely amazing and a strong finish to the meal. The only minor disappointment was the honey mustard/honey barbecue sauce, which was thinner than expected and lacked that thicker, honey-forward texture you might anticipate. Overall, this was a fantastic dining experience. Great atmosphere, strong execution in the kitchen, and a team that clearly cares about taking care of their guests. Definitely a place worth returning to when in Wilmington.

Service was exceptional, felt personal, like they really cared that, not only was our food good, but that we were satisfied with even the small details - my soy allergy was a big deal - and she split the meal into food I could eat and food I should avoid. Made it smooth, with no worries. Her Name was MACY and she is to be commended for her care and her gracious manner. Much more than that: the food was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. NYC eat your heart out! Atmosphere, Food, and really being treated like you matter, that is the heart of hospitality, the Seabird is marvelous, One tip: don't skip desert!

She did a great job of explaining everything on the menu and helping us pick some incredible options. We had the presquile chard, the seared fish, the schnitzel, the broiled oysters with hollandaise, the chili pork ribs, the Caroline handshake, the tall and fluffy cheesecake, and the brownie, and every bite was amazing! We were so pleasantly surprised by the hollandaise oysters- the sauce added a perfect taste to this appetizer. The restaurant wasn't super loud, only one table of ladies really enjoying their meal and laughing a bunch. My fiancé had told them it was my birthday when he made the reservation so our cheesecake came our with a birthday candle on it! We loved our experience and can't wait to come back!
