    Red velvet cake

Loved the cake! The Anime design my daughter wanted was great and the red velvet cake was sooo delicious. Definitely calling to order again!

    a three tiered wedding cake
    Susan Q.

My Husband and I worked with Diane for our Wedding, that took place in the fall of 2019. It was a different time, pre pandemic. She welcomed us to come in for a tasting on a Sunday afternoon in April (book ahead y'all). She had baked cupcake versions of all sorts of flavors and had fillings and frostings galore to pair with them. We pretty much decided in the car on the way home that we had found perfection. She created beautiful cakes for our day, meeting and then exceeding all expectations. She took inspiration photos from me and kept in close touch to make sure I was completely happy with the final look and design. We chose vanilla cake with Italian cream filling for the main star of the cake table, and a chocolate cake with hazelnut filling for the Grooms cake. On the day of our nuptials, we provided toppers and she took care of the rest! Our guests ate that delicious cake so fast, and raved about it afterwards. Diane took great care to explain the packaging of our top tier, and I will tell you that thawed out a year later it was still magnificent!!

    65th birthday cake

I live in the Washington, DC area and needed a bakery in Jacksonville, Fl. I came across D&D Cake Designs and they are far the best. I needed a cake for my sister's surprise 65th birthday that I was planning from another state. I reached out to Diane and she promptly responded and was awesome to work with. Often times you never know what to expect when doing business out of state and no recommendations, but when I tell you that she made the best cake I have tasted in a longtime and everyone that had a slice said it was absolutely the best cake they tasted. This two tier 3 - picture cake was done exactly the way we discussed. She personally delivered the cake to my hotel. I am so thankful our paths crossed and if I ever need a cake in Florida this is who I will be contacting. Job well Done Diane. Jerald

D&D made the block cake on top and the red velvet cupcakes with white icing. The cake was a hit and complemented our theme extremely well.

Everything seemed crisp and clean! My favorite was the Ube cheesecake. It was a uniquely different flavor I wasnt expecting. Not too sweet either. The bischoff caramel crepe was not a fan favorite. I dont know what I was expecting but that wasn't it. It was soggy and not pleasing to my palate or my husband's. The strawberry shortcake was okay. I dont eat a lot of strawberry shortcake so I'm not sure what I was expecting. This shortcake seemed like it had more whipped cream than anything and maybe that's how they are supposed to be....but Im not sure. The vanilla bean cheesecake was also very good. I will be going back for another slice. Not too sweet, not dry. Nice and creamy. The service was good.

Some restaurants surprise you with one great dish. Others deliver a memorable experience from start…read moreto finish. Our visit to Biscottis in Jacksonville's Avondale neighborhood managed to do both. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and seated immediately, and the atmosphere had a welcoming energy that made the restaurant feel like a true neighborhood gathering place. Susan ordered the Quiche Lorraine, and after the first bite we both knew it was something special. The crust was delicate and buttery while the filling was rich and perfectly balanced. It was so impressive that we awarded it our Culinary Duo Best of the Best dish recognition, which is something we reserve for truly standout dishes. Peter went in a different direction and ordered the Sweet Potato Pancakes with house made white cheddar hash browns. The pancakes were flavorful and comforting, and the hash browns were crispy with bold cheddar flavor that made them impossible to stop eating. Another thing we appreciated was learning that Biscottis carries the Slow Food First Coast Snail of Approval, recognizing restaurants that support sustainable agriculture and local food traditions. The service throughout the visit was cheerful and attentive, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there. If you enjoy restaurants that combine great brunch dishes, incredible desserts, and a lively neighborhood atmosphere, Biscottis is definitely worth visiting.

Pretentious and overrated…read more I wanted to like this place - it has such a hype. But the food is terrible. The burger is greasy/wet, it is drenched in a bland cheese sauce, the meat is underseasoned, and the patty has no sear. Definitely not worth anything near the $21 cost. The salmon BLT is served on bread that is cut so thick you're mostly just eating old/stale bread, and the sandwich is also greasy. Their french fries come drenched in a disgusting garlic oil and cheap grated parmesan. It's bad cooking dressed up to look fancy without any understanding of the basics. The restaurant fits as well. Its ugly artwork is accompanied by furniture that looks like it was ripped out of a Le Pain Quotidien. The cakes look amazing, and the bar is nicely designed and well stocked, but neither saves the drab surrealist-cafeteria vibe of this pretentious establishment.

We ordered the Brussel sprouts as an appetizer, they were phenomenal! Then we both decided on steak for dinner. I got the filet, and ordered it medium rare and it was perfect. My husband ordered the ribeye and his was medium, his was also spot on. Then of course, we had to get dessert. I got the German chocolate cake (this apparently isn't their normal one) and my husband got the dulce cheesecake. The waitress we had was great, and she recommended lots of tips and favorites to try. The only negative thing that I would say is that it's a bit cramped, so it was very loud and hard to hear each other at points. This was an amazing dinner. We will be back

Our waiter, Evan, was very proactive & offered suggestions with menu items. We started with some cocktails, the gentlemen with the cider beer & an old fashioned. I chose a glass of bubbly & the birthday girl had the fizz cocktail. It was incredible with a fresh blackberry puree. We started with the fried green tomatoes & the calamari, both were delicious! Calamari was prepared well and not too chewy. We shockingly each chose a salad: the bistro steak, the chop chop Asian, the goat cheese, and the salmon. Each one was incredible. Mine was the chop chop and I absolutely loved it! It was HUGE and you can bet I ate every single bite. Loved it!' We finished with the brownie topped with ice cream for the birthday girl, it was extremely tasty! Thanks again to Evan for making our night! He was a fantastic waiter! Would absolutely request him in the future.

I made it my mission to find the and send her fresh mooncakes. I was thankful for this establishment, as they had five different flavors of mooncakes. This was the only place I located, close enough to Callahan, that actually sells mooncakes. They are located inside of R & D International Market. The bakery is well stocked with a very off sweet treats or savory baked goods. The staff was pleasant and helpful. They labeled each mooncake so we knew the flavors, as they are indivvidually wrapped. We shipped them overnight to her. We also bought doubles so we could try them.as well. The flavors were black sesame, green tea, pineapple, red bean and lotus. The black sesame and red bean were very dense. The lotus and green tea were a lighter texture with great flavor. Our favorite was the lotus with the red bean in second place. It is a quiet, quaint spot among the food court with a few tables to enjoy your purchase while you are there.

The next morning, we had the sausage and scallion bun at home. I liked it, maybe more than the pork bun, and would get it again, though it had the advantage of being reheated at home in the microwave. My wife liked the dough, the hot dog less so (and I must admit the hot dog in the croissant we had a while ago at Cruffin & Tea was better). I'd get this again, though probably trying the regular hot dog bun instead of the scallion one next time. I'd asked the server if she could reheat our items when I bought them, but she said no, and didn't seem to understand English well. So far, I've preferred the savory things to the sweets here. Each item was $3-3.25, so a better value than the other bakeries I go to. I will return to this place periodically, but I still prefer places like Cruffin & Tea and Le Petit Paris, so I'm giving Mai Xiang Garden Bakery an average rating, 3 stars: pretty good, but not above average for a bakery, other than the good value.
