They say you either get a one pound or half pound sandwich. The one pound may indeed be a pound, but there is no way that the half pound is close; what you're getting is actually a quarter pound and lucky if you get even that. Go to McDonalds and get a quarter pounder and compare and it will weigh twice as much! Most of what they say is the half pound is bread. Just compare pictures of the two and there's no way that the half pound is half of the pound! Then they charge for cheese whether you want it or not. I didn't want it but asked if it was already tacked on and was told "yeah, you're already paying for it", and saw a .50 charge for cheese on my receipt. Then they "give" you chips and pickle whether you want it or not but you know it's added into the price. Now sure I know they need to make a profit, but they are making a HUGE profit but still they need to try and get as much money from you as they can, which is not illegal, as long as you know the truth. So if you want to get more of what you pay for, you should always get the whole pound because "that is what we're known for", but they make most of their profit on the so-called half pound sandwiches that cost almost twice what they're worth! And I went the day before St. Patrick's Day so I would be sure to get fresh meat that's not sitting around for hours and I got the mac-and-cheese that was mush - the noodles had absolutely no consistency whatsoever because it was in the steamer with the lid on probably for hours. The taste was passing and not the worst I've had, but I wouldn't order it again. The cashier was nice and they have a lot of servers but still will take about 15 mins to call your number. I wouldn't order in the drive-thru because like I say, it will take about 15 mins per car! BTW: to get "extra-lean" will cost about another $3 dollars The reason for only two stars rather than three is charging for cheese if you want it or not which with the crazy profit they make is unethical; it's the principle not the cost. They're lucky people can barely afford to come eat there - they should show more appreciation than that! read more

Only been there once St Pats day it was so busy but the staff just rocked our orders out and were so pleasant inspite of being hit with a line out to street drive through, a restaurant full with walk ins along with uber eats grub hub and who knows where else orders were coming in from!! Stop by on a late Saturday night got a corn beef sandwich that comes with a pickle and chips. The sandwich was large enough that I had half and my husband had the other half and we got full. Highly recommend will be back to service was speedy. read more

So first I want to say I love their corned beef sandwich. It is the best sandwich I have ever had. Now today I wanted to try something a little different. So I ordered the 1-pounder Ruben Sandwich - well let me tell you it is not 1lb. There is about a half pound of meat on this sandwich. They advertise the home of the 1 pounder - not true in this case. Very disappointed - for the price and not for the sandwich to be what is advertised is disheartening. I work about a mile from here and was excited when I saw this location open up. I would say do not order the pound ruben sandwich because that is not what you are going to get at all. The sandwich is half the size of the corn beef sandwich. read more

The two corned beef sandwiches were just okay meaning that the portion size was way too small. Seriously!!!! It left my husband and I still hungry. It's definitely not a half pound portion. There's a lot of fat on the meat. Perhaps too much. The sandwich was warm and not hot. I grilled it at home to make it more appetizing enough to eat. The location in Alsip was okay. You can see them prepare your sandwich. It came with a very small pickle spear and a bag of plain Lays chips for $9.99 plus extra for Swiss cheese. Approximately $30 for two sandwiches. read more

Unaware that the 3 locations are individually owned, I posted a review of the Calumet City store on the Alsip store's site. My sincere apologies, as the review was not favorable. The Alsip owner (Dawn) immediately responded to my post informing me of the separate ownership and also offering an apology for my experience. She encouraged me to give D.A.'s another try. I had no desire to return to Calumet City as they never answered their phone when I tried to contact them over several days. I was able to reach Alsip by phone the same day of my review and the owner answered. I decided to visit her store instead. I didn't visit Alsip until a week later, but I'm glad I did. Dawn told me to give my name when I came and there would be a complementary sandwich in the system...and there was. She was there working as well. My corned beef sandwich was delicious as I had been told by others and lean as expected. Yes, when ordering you need to request extra-lean, but I was told even when not requesting, there should not be so much fat as to make the sandwich unappealing. There is also a huge sign at the entrance letting customers know what to order if you want no fat at all. While there, I order the Roast Beef/Pot Roast sandwich, pound cake and peach cobbler...all were delicious!!! Just WOW! I was never a huge fan of corned beef before but I saw this place on my way home and wanted to grab my husband some dinner. The portions were generous, the food was hot, the flavor was yummy. I can honestly say I am now a fan! You can tell they use quality ingredients and care about the food they put out. The icing on the cake was the assistant manager Candy. She was friendly, patient and helpful. You can tell she cares a lot about the patron and knows she's serving up good food. I went a while ago, maybe about a month after this location opened. The corned beef was very good, tender and flavorful while also quite filling. The mashed potatoes were also quite good, you could tell they were real (not some potato flake expiriment). Service was very good, everyone was friendly and prompt. The only downside was that they almost forgot my Pepsi (i had to let them know) and that they forgot my spoon (i ended up tonguing down the mashed potatoes). I am not worthy of this sandwich! The 1 pound corned beef will bust your gut, the 1/2# is just right for me. Served on delicious, thick marble rye with a pickle and a bag of chips. Incredible! Also Keats by the pound and yummy pound cake. I drive from across town for DA's. The staff is always friendly and polite. They prepare your order quickly and ensure you have a great meal value for your money. The pleasant young man behind the register brought my drink out to me as they prepared fresh, warm meat for my sandwich twenty minutes before close. All with a smile from everyone behind the counter I look forward to getting back to try their other offerings, including roasted turkey and tender pit roast, YUM! read more

We've had all three sandwiches at D A's on three different occasions. Corn beef, Pastrami and a Reuben. Our opinion: Outstanding!!!!!! I ordered regular (not fat trimmed) sandwiches. All were delicious without excess fat. The sides we had, Mac & cheese and slaw were really tasty. One more thing. Very friendly folks behind the counter. We've eaten in, comfortable and clean and taken out. D A' s in Alsip is what Alsip always needed. read more

I had a few issues with the alsip store. Asked for horseradish, didn't get it. Put a very sticky sticker on my door handle that won't come off. Pot roast sandwich was dry, fatty and really tasteless, needed a gravy not mustard! Bread was starting to go stale on the crust. They're not cheap, so that's why I'm complaining.
