Great deli to stop and get a sandwich during lunch. I ordered the lunch special with chips. I thought it was a bit pricey until I saw the amount of meat they piled on. They do give you the option of it being a cold cut or a warm sandwich. If you have any questions they are more than willing to explain. My brother said his buddies recommended swansons for lunch so I told him let's go and sure glad we did. Very spacious interior with ready to go meals, desserts, and meats. Plenty of drink options too. I ordered the roast beef sandwich and quickly grabbed a seat. Sandwiches were brought out to us and came with a side of potato salad that was very good. We split a few sandwiches including a hot grilled chicken sandwich with honey mustard, a Reuben, and their iconic chicken salad sandwich with some delicious sweet potato chips and refreshing Olly Pop sodas. While the dining area is small, it's perfectly cozy and a great option for lunch in south Beverly. I just ordered food from swansons & had a very strange experience. I ordered a Rubin sandwich on marble rye. I asked for it cold. I went to pay my bill. The lady, who was making the sandwich asked me if I was going to eat it later & if I want the sauce on the side. I said fine, put the sauce on the side. She told me that she "deconstructed the sandwich." I had no clue what that meant. She then gave me the meat & bread wrapped up separately with a container for the sauce. I asked her what was this for? She told me that she deconstructed the sandwich & that I can put it together when I want to eat it. I walked out because I was running late for work. In conclusion, I asked her for a sandwich but she gave me everything to make one. I don't understand what her thinking was. This is a great place to visit if you like Deli Sandwiches. They serve Hot and Cold sandwiches with a variety to choose from. I tried their Tuna Sandwich on a toasted croissant. It was very good! Loved the crunchiness of the Croissant. The tuna was full of flavor. With your sandwich you get a very small side of either Cole Slaw or Potato Salad. I choose the Potato Salad. You can't go wrong picking up one of their notable blue cheese balls with some townhouse crackers or some chicken salad to stuff into phyllo cups. Service is speedy, and now with the new owners they have to hours to match instead of being closed at random. I've dined in quite a few times and their sandwich selection is excellent, not to mention the vast array of breads you get to choose from when you order. Hubby loves the Boar's Head roast beef, and I recently discovered that I like the chicken pesto panini. Fries are great, curds are often sold out. Soups and chilis are solid. *DISAPPOINTED IN HOW WE WERE TREATED / poor food quality* Ordered our business catering here for an event in our neighborhood. Everyone was resistant on the meat tray (discreetly into their napkins), when we realized the meat/cheese tray was tasting sour. When we spoke to the owner of Swansons, he scolded me right off the bat saying "I don't know how long you left the food in your car to sour". He went on to tell me he was there making the trays and he knows they were fresh because they were taste testing it as they made it (sounds slightly unsanitary). He requested I bring the food back, for which I explained it was in a garbage bag at my backdoor and he still wanted it brought in (after he knew it sat out all night in the garbage), which could be understandable if he was making sure it truly was not eaten. He then told me that I was just "disappointed in my success for our event and this is an attempt to gain back expenses lost, you have buyers remorse". I can't even believe a business owner would speak to a customer this way. I felt belittled and was treated as if I was a liar and shyster. I didn't necessarily want my money back, I wanted someone to care. I would have appreciated kind words, and an attempt to make it right one way or another. Ultimately, I should have been given a refund on that single tray that was brought back half uneaten (other half was unfortunately discarded into napkins). I was not, instead I was hung up on. I will never order from here again and I will make sure to tell all my friends and family the way they treat their customers. It would have been real simple to be kind, use nice words and make a small attempt to make it right. So soooo, very disappointed. read more

We had Swanson's do our Thanksgiving cooking this year. Probably the best idea we've ever had. We had to cook the turkey breast; thanks to Greg's instructions, it was perfect - done on time and mmmmm so juicy to boot. We got a bunch of small sides; it was only 3 of us this year. If we had known how big the "small" sides were (roughly a 9x13 pan), we might have invited some friends. Instead, we'll have some nice dinners for a few days. Ambiance was very good, traditional deli. Staff was very friendly and helpful offering plenty of good recommendations. Service was also good although sandwich turnaround slower than expected despite not a ton of traffic when I went. Peppos in Palos is much more efficient but doesn't have the variety of sandwiches or dips. The sandwiches at Swansons were very good. We had a chicken pesto which was great and a Reuben which was good to very good. Also tried three dips-all very good/great. The burnt ends dip is incredible and the jack daniels dip is not far behind. Clam dip was also very good. The sandwiches taste great and everything is fresh. I'm writing this review specifically for their jambalaya. I go to New Orleans basically every year and I'm a big fan of the food in NOLA. Anytime I order jambalaya outside of New Orleans im constantly disappointed. So when I saw the jambalaya in their refrigerator of pre cooked meals I didn't have high expectations but i bought it anyway. Well imagine how surprised I was when I got home, took the first bite and it actually tasted similar to what you get in New Orleans. Very nicely done! I'm not sure if you use a roux base or not (kinda looks like you do) but if you do it shows the care that goes into all of their food. I have been in Chicago for 62 yrs and I was driving on 103 st and spotted this deli. I turned around,parked in the lot and walked in. Greeted when I came in I starting talking to the lady taking my order. Explained to her that my mom always cut the edges off my sandwiches and that I still don't eat them at age 62. When I saw my sandwich to my surprise the edges were cut off. The Rueben was delicious and that was such a kind act for her to do. I can't wait to go back. If I could give zero stars, I would. On Saturday, I ordered catering for my mother's wake for delivery on Monday (48 hours ahead of time). The order was confirmed and my card was charged. After the order was over 90 minutes late my husband called to get a status update and was told that they couldn't fill the order and didn't know how it was placed as they don't accept online orders on the weekend. The next excuse was that the order wasn't placed 48 hours ahead of time. It was. We spoke with the owner who felt bad and said he should send pizzas. We never received pizzas. We were trying to support a local business. My husband ended up calling Jimmy John's who was able to fill the order quickly. I've learned my lesson and will not order from Swanson's again. They managed to make an already difficult day more stressful. read more

Been going here since I was a kid. This guy has almost ruined this place. Took a friend there and was raving about the great food. Got the sandwich's and no potato salad. Went back up and said they forgot the side. I was told we don't do that anymore, had to buy it and got the smallest portion you have ever seen, maybe 2 bites. I am totally done with this place. This place was a great spot to pick up a quick sandwich when I was teaching on the South Side today! I had a roast beef sandwich, and it was SOOO good! The deli uses fresh Turano bread (mine was on whole wheat, but they have white and multi-grain too!), and it was obvious that the meat was fresh as well. You get a choice of potato salad or cole slaw to accompany your sandwich (I went with the slaw, and it was good-and the perfect serving size!). In addition to sandwiches they have a selected variety of desserts (I went with the apple slice which was good) and salads if sandwiches aren't your thing. This is a catering company as well, but I didn't peek at their menu, but I'm sure it's along the lines of deli style lunches which can include subs, italian beef and other run of the mill sandwiches. read more

Sometimes they run out of their own recipe though and they have another kind they substitute with, so if you're going to order you should probably ask first. I went to Swansons hesitating because it's just not the same as when it was owned by a great neighborhood family! They would always load the sandwiches with whatever you ordered and offered delicious specials and soup made with love. You cannot believe I was charged separately for a piece of cheese on a tuna sandwich that cost 13.95 plus cheese slice at .75. I work downtown and I can get a similar meal that's better and consistent. The prices for a neighborhood mainstay are unaffordable. I'd imagine with all the dough yer pulling in now you could pave your lot. This is a staunch rip off. You used to get potato salad with your sandwich etc. the recipes were gifted to the new owners and they disrespectfully carry on with out of control pricing! I spent 107.00 on 4 sandwiches, two chips and two tiny potato salads. I always buy the cheeseball and that's all I can say I'll ever buy again. We used to be able to cater great food and afford it for family parties. I am willing to spend money if the return is there but it's just sub par and I felt like a chump. You should greet people and roll out the red carpet at this rate. No one said hi, there was no feeling of neighborhood like it used to be.
