Being so close to my house, this should be a no-brainer for me to come more often, but the quality of the range looks like it's about a close, and honestly I rather play than practice. The putting and chipping green areas are not even worth putting on. Can't get much practice in because the greens are so bumpy and showing its age. I hate hitting off driving range mats, so I decided to pay an additional fee of $5 to use the grass hitting area. Medium bucket is $13. I wish I would've looked at the area before paying the fee, because it was torn up and full of divots. The ground is uneven and either they don't rotate the spots enough or it's probably because the majority of folks who hit on grass here don't know the proper etiquette of practicing off a grass range. Either way, not worth it IMO. It's a range that I'll go to if I want to get a few shots up, but honestly I'd rather drive further for something of better quality.

I loved the walk through SF's history, and felt engaged at every hole. I like billiards so I loved one of the later holes that challenged you to use your putter as a pool cue. The actual square footage of the course is not very big, but they pack a lot in the space they got. I didn't try the food or drinks but there was ample seating. Drinks but not food were allowed on the course itself. All in all not a bad way to spend $20 for a fun evening!

Usually, I pass the slow people and jump to different holes out of order then come back, but I started early and was in no rush to finish, so I just kept myself busy while waiting for groups ahead of me, including a large party of 6 who kept causing a delay. The boom & bust course was made up of interesting props and decor representing SF landmarks and settings throughout time. Every hole had a starting point with little descriptions and buttons that could be pressed to hear about the history or fun facts about each scene. But only some of the buttons worked. Overall the holes were pretty easy, so for most I got a hole in one or two, but at least the sets were amusing, to keep it interesting. Some of my faves were the Barbary Coast Saloon with old-town piano music playing inside, the Gold Rush Graveyard which has a coffin that opens and lights up, though I think there's a specific hole that activates it (I got it in the left and nothing happened), Alpha In The Air with skyscrapers battling it out, and Spirit of Invention where players are instructed to use their putter as a pool cue (this was different). Some parts were broken and/or closed off, such as one of the Sierra Tunnels Mining Co. tracks covered with blue tape. But the place was in good condition altogether, the 18-hole course not bad at all.

Sean was able to answer all my questions and give demonstrations too. At the end of the lesson I was able to fix my hip and head sway in that was detrimental to my swing and you can actually see the difference between my initial practice swings versus the end of the lesson swings. The afternoon 9 hole round cost $40 walking. Walking up to the first green we saw a coyote rambling through the fairways. Good or bad omen, we would find out. At least it was not freezing or blowing too bad. T boxes were uneven, hard to see, and a bit rough. Lots of trees to consider and huge patches of carryover sand. Bunkers were not manicured. It's easy to top your ball in some of the patched fringe or tree-lined fairways. Overall it had nice views of McLaren Park, the Cow Palace and Visitacion Valley below. But a bit more maintenance on the fringes wouldn't do it harm.
