Met up with Abe over at Urban Fairway since weather sucked today. I'll tell you what he did for me; he helped define my iron swing. He showed me this drill that I've never seen used and after a few tries I was able to finally have decent contact. That said, he teaches at YOUR pace and works with whatever prior experience you have. I'm a somewhat new golfer with back issues and an arthritic knee and he was still able to help me get some contact with the ball. I still have to work on my slice though. I've been playing golf on and off since middle school (over 20 years ago) but plateaued very early on. I was decent with irons but had never been able to hit a driver or any of my woods. I decided to pick up golf again and actually improve, so I went to Abe specifically to help me get over this hump. After just two lessons, I was hitting these clubs like never before. I was not only hitting my driver off the ground (which was all I could do before), but hitting it far. I was blown away. This motivated me to practice more, and I noticed my shots were going far, but not always straight. So, I went back to Abe to see what we could do. This time, we had a simulator lesson. It was extremely informative, and Abe was immediately able to show me, through data, what was happening with my swing. By the end of the hour, I was consistently hitting straight. I especially appreciate his teaching approach. I'm someone who prefers to focus on one area at a time. I've struggled with other instructors who throw a lot of information at me all at once, making me overthink and mess up during a swing. Abraham was welcoming and made me feel comfortable. He had me hit a couple of balls and quickly assessed the issues with my swing which was pretty much everything. I'm a 15 handicap and recently playing poorly. Will usually shoot in the 80s but couldn't break 90 for the past couple months. I knew short game was my weakness so I went to Abe to get a lesson and now I'm hitting shots around the green with much more confidence and even flirted with a couple chip ins. I decide to learn how to play golf in one semester during college about 30 years ago. I'm just so amazed how a tiny object can fly in the air by simply swinging your arms. I had an issue with a pull in my swing. Abe saw it immediately and gave me drills to break that bad habit and then rework my swing to have good habits. It took a lot of time, drills, and work but I was able to have more success with shallowing out my swing. Abe is a great swing coach. He takes the time to evaluate your swing and work with the swing you have. You can tell he has a lot of experience by making little tweaks to be successful with YOUR swing, regardless of how abstract the swing is. Also, his coaching can help you reach your full swing potential if you put in your own time to practice the lessons taught. It's a gradual progression. Sometimes you can take steps back and then take leaps forward. Abe is easy to get a hold of and his schedule is very flexible. I like how he has different methods and analogies to help you to understand each "problem". His method definitely clicked with me. I went from scoring in the mid 90s to scoring in the mid 70s in about 8 months. He really help me with my swing. Even though I was successful, I still set up swing coaching with him because a swing is perishable. The body changes, so you always have to work and tune up if you want to be successful. What an awesome experience I started my hour lesson pretty hopeless, meaning I could barely make contact with the ball and rarely hit it straight consistently. We walked through the basics of my grip, stance/positioning, and the anatomy of the swing. We used a lot of drills, analogies and even a phone app to correct all of my mistakes. It also went beyond correcting mistakes to diagnosing the cause of my bad hits so even when I make mistakes in the future, I'll know what the issue is and how to correct it.
