I started lessons with Lisa as a total beginner -- I had literally never swung a golf club before. Golf isn't something that comes intuitively to me, but Lisa has been incredibly patient and structured in how she teaches. Every session builds logically on the last, and she's great at breaking things down in a way that makes sense and sticks. Her assistant Kelly has also been wonderful -- super responsive and helpful. I accidentally broke one of my irons (which Kelly had helped me purchase), and she went above and beyond to get it replaced by Srixon for free -- even though I had already thrown the broken club away! I want to share an upsetting experience I had here -- not because of the instruction itself with Lisa, but because of how I was treated as a client by her assistant, Kelly. I took a lesson with Lisa last year and genuinely loved it. She's professional, sharp, and her teaching method really helped me. I was excited to continue working with her. I had to cancel a Saturday morning lesson due to last-minute work travel. Their policy requires 48-hour notice, which I fully respected -- I tried to cancel on Wednesday night, but the website wasn't working. I also tried calling but couldn't get through. I was finally able to cancel on Thursday -- almost 2 hours past the deadline -- and immediately followed up via email with a screenshot of the outage and a respectful explanation. To be clear: I was totally okay with being charged if needed. I simply asked if a waiver was possible given the technical issue, and I shared evidence in good faith. What I didn't expect was to be met with accusations of faking the screenshot and zero willingness to even consider the situation. Kelly outright dismissed the possibility of technical issues, stated that "there are ways to generate the screenshot you sent," and refused to acknowledge that I had attempted to cancel on time. I was charged anyway, and the situation was escalated unnecessarily into something personal and hostile. I let it go -- until I reached out again recently, hoping to resume lessons. That's when I received an even more aggressive email from Kelly, saying I had "weaseled my way out of the charge," pulled a "stunt," and that Lisa would never work with me again -- because, in her words, "this is the first time someone has the audacity to think Lisa would ever work with you again." She added that Lisa "has a full client book and a waitlist for new clients who are more than willing to abide..." There was no attempt at resolution -- just escalating insults, condescension, and personal attacks. Lisa is a talented instructor, but her assistant's conduct has created a hostile and unsafe environment for honest, respectful clients. If you're considering lessons here, just know: if you raise a concern -- even politely, with evidence -- you may be met with hostility instead of professionalism. I followed the rules, communicated respectfully, and asked for understanding when I ran into a technical issue. In return, I was met with dismissiveness and aggression. For reference, I'm at 19 HCP who used to be single digit close to two decades ago. I stopped playing for a while and just recently (2 years ago) started back up seriously. I completed my initial 90 min assessment w/ Lisa last Friday and I thought it was great. First, she talks to you about your golf history, goals, and where you think your game needs to improve. She then studies your body's movements and its limitations through a series of exercises and stretches. After looking at what equipment you're using (we breezed past this because I recently got fitted), she analyzes your swing and then formulates a plan. For me, the focus was on my basic setup: grip, ball position, and squaring my body and club face. I know that sounds super basic, but Lisa helped me develop a solid preshot routine that increases my chances of putting a good swing on the ball. The next day, I played Harding, and then Tilden the day after that. Typically after a lesson, my scores skyrocket (in a bad way) as I battle between my "old swing" and implementing new information. This time, however, my scores DROPPED by an average of 9 strokes. I guess having a repeatable, aligned, and square set up is important. Lol. Thanks Lisa! Simply put, I went from knowing nothing to birdies at the golf course. Lisa took the time to fix every detail of my swing and help laid a solid foundation with a mix of video software and at-home/at-range drills. I would say the cost might be a little higher than other places outside the city but the indoor tech that Lisa uses is a lot more useful in understanding what is happening to your swing and how to improve it than any lesson at the range. From me losing balls all the time and not knowing what I did wrong to hitting birdies on the same course within several lessons was worth the price. read more

I took a series of six lessons from Terry Rowles at the SFGPC in 2007. Trust me, if I wasn't a young dad trying to pay a mortgage, I would be continuing with my lessons. The thing is- I learned a tremendous amount during the few months that I worked with Terry, so much so that I can continually refer back to the suggestions he made and really don't need to go back until the time when I can truly say that I've done the work prescribed. He is not the kind of teacher that you will need to go to every week for years on end without any improvement. I've taken lessons from at least 20 professionals in my 15 years as a golfer, and Terry was by far the most knowlegable about the swing, how the body controls the club, posture, balance, tempo, and the mental side of the game. He is schooled in biomechanics so he knows how the body should move during the swing. He has worked as a pro at Leadbetter's academies in Europe and has worked with pro's like Olazabal so his golf pedigree is solid. When I started with Terry I was shooting in the mid 90's and was fighting a bad hitch in my swing. We addressed issues of balance, stability, and joint mobility during the first few sessions and it started to come together by the end where my new swing looked much different than what I had been doing during my first lesson. Terry is not the cheapest pro out there, but what's important is that he will give you a solid diagnosis and you will come away knowing exactly what you need to focus on. He will prescribe drills, exercises, stretches, and keep you on track with what needs to be improved the most. He uses a variety of training aids and fitness tools as well as technology like the K Vest which will show you in 3D what your body is really doing during the swing and at address. My handicap is now 14 and I recently shot a 79 and an 83 last weekend so that cap is coming down in no small part to my lessons at the SFGPC from two years ago. read more

I've taken the second of a six part series of lessons from Terry Rowles who came very highly recommended from a friend. I found his approach to be unique and extremely effective. He has combined technology which gives instant and visual feedback with practical drills that can be done on the course and at home to train the body to feel the correct sensation. After my first lesson, he videotaped my swing which was posted online with an overview of the drills i was supposed to follow for future reference. During my two lessons, we've worked on both the full swing and putting. I would highly recommend Terry, he's a fantastic teacher. The financial district location is also quite convenient for a quick mid-week lesson - quite a welcome diversion to the daily grind. read more

I was moved to try the SFGPC last year after a couple of VERY frustrating rounds. I was a high handicapper who could admit to needing help! The idea of a tech-savvy golf coach really appealed, so I booked my lesson online and looked forward to seeing how video analysis could work for me. I can't emphasize enough the value of SEEING what's happening in your swing versus imagining what may be happening. The ability to compare your swing with the guys on tour is pretty cool too! You also get online access to your swing videos after the lesson - meaning the learning continues long after you leave SFGPC's downtown location. Terry is a great coach and has a laid-back style typical of an Englishman. He tailors the session to your learning style and provides specific drills to practice at home or the range. He's also great at suggesting when your time is better spent at the range rather than booking in an extra lesson. This speaks to both his integrity and confidence in his advice - and why I'll be a return customer. read more

Best Xmas present a wife could give me. Pretty slick, I have a wife who is very tolerant of my love for beer, golf, bowling, cigars. This is my worst experience at any given place so far. They kill you with $180/ Hr classes and would not allow refund/cancellation beyond 48 hours. We booked a class but found a better cheaper alternative, so decided to cancel. However, since calling from day 1 to now day 7, one day before the scheduled lesson, nobody answered a damn phone. All communication is via email, and they threaten us to charge the class price due to no cancellation within 48 hours. This is fraud. Don't go! This 4.5 star review must be fraudulent. As with any sports instruction, the majority of the work is on the student to perform in order to achieve their goals. This is no different. What sets Lisa apart in my mind from any other instructor I've had in the past is that she took the time to understand my bio-mechanics and swing. She never has tried to fit my golf game into someone else's swing but has customized my lesson program to adhere to my abilities. The result has been a huge reduction in my handicap and a much more enjoyable round. As with any great instructor, Lisa understands that every student learns differently and has adapted her instruction to fit my style. I cannot recommend her highly enough. I've never found the cancellation or reschedule policies to be an issue if you just email or call ahead of time. read more

Who would have thought you could have a golf lesson in downtown SF! At first I was skeptical since, I don't really play a lot of golf, but Terry did more then help my golf swing. He uses video to show you how to adjust your swing and can compare you to a pro golfer like Tiger Woods. Being a personal trainer, I know Terry knows what he is talking about because he is well educated in anatomy and kinesiology of the body. Something that I would find important with one who teaches technique and sport performance. The next time I went out to play with my buddies, I won our $100 pot. Not bad for a $75 profit. It was worth every penny to beat my friends who are "great" golfers. read more

Cant say enough good things about the lesson. Terry does a great job taking something extremely complicated (the golf swing), and boiling it down into 1-2 key takeaways that you need to work on. He also gives you access to your swing on video, compares it to tour pros (I got a long way to go!), and gives great guidance on how to practice what you have just learned. Realize its a little pricier than most golf lessons, but well worth it. Much better investment in your golf game than buying a $500 driver. read more

I had a great lesson from Terry. I only did the initial assessment, which lasted 90 minutes. Terry had me do a number of quick physical exercise tests to gauge my physical capabilities related to golf swings. I thought this was very interesting, and was happy to hear that I didn't have any issues that could affect my swing. Then he captured video of my swing. I took at least 15 swings with a 6 iron that he was recording. He was also using some software program that was analyzing several different variables of my swing. This helped him isolate the 2 things that he told me I really needed to work on. He gave me 2 drills that I could work on at the range to improve these. Terry then gave me quick pointers on chipping and my grip. His advice on grip (hold the club firmly) was exactly the opposite of what an instructor told me years ago (hold the club loosely). It was obvious to me that Terry's a pro and his advice was correct. Note that he did tell me that for chipping, I should use a loose grip instead of a firm grip. Overall, a great experience and worth the money in my opinion. read more

I have been working with Lisa for 2+ years. I started playing golf at age 12 and I was a 13.8 index for a long time and I couldn't get over a few hurdles. Paid over $700 for 4 lessons (including a physical and club assessment) with Lisa Allee. If you include parking fees in the city, which is exorbitant, let's round it up to $800. Physical and club assessment, for someone who has had personal training for the last 15 years, was of very little value. I would recommend it for absolute beginners or people with a disability that might hinder their swing. As for the lessons, there was an immediate sense that Lisa gave very little instruction in order to get additional lessons out of you. Basic swing thoughts that could be understood and implemented within minutes were prolonged to eat up time. After 4 lessons, we got as far as the backswing and no further. I left this experience incredibly angry. Golf is frustrating enough, but then you add these golf instructors who exploit and bleed you dry so that they can pay their SF rent. But that was my experience with Lisa and the SF Performance Golf Center, which in itself is misleading -- it's a tiny little room in an office building with a mat and a net. Allow me to preface this with IAAPG (I am a professional golfer). I recently decided to get my game back in shape after a 5 year virtual hiatus. By sheer chance, I discovered this gem of a business called "San Francisco Golf Performance Center" in of all places the heart of the financial district. Now, before you ask whether you get to smash 5 irons through the windows of the BofA building, let me just say it's all indoors. Normally that would kind of suck because I like to see the flight of the ball but I decided to peek inside anyway. And boy am I glad I did. Instructor Terry Rowles has the coolest technology - everything from the state of the art software to suits that map your body as you swing through 3 dimensions. Now if it were just the technology I might have signed up and said "ok, just stay out of my way while I use your gear to teach myself", but it's not just about technology here. Terry Rowles is a bona-fide professional-grade instructor and you would be a fool not to listen to his advice. If you've ever wondered what taking a lesson from David Leadbetter or Butch Harmon or [insert teacher du-jour here] is like you needn't wonder any longer. The secret to a good golf swing is much more than pure mechanics - if your body isn't primed for the golf swing you have no chance. What I love about Terry Rowles is that he's an Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Master Practitioner. In plain english that means he's an expert at teaching you how to use, train, and sense your body like a top level athlete. Within a single lesson I learned more about posture and how my body type and fitness level contributes to poor tendencies than I have learned in my previous 20 years playing golf. And this is not bologna folks, sure there are lots of pros out there that "claim" they know the secrets to golf - and maybe some of them actually stumbled upon one or two, but without the proper background or technology at their disposal they can't put the puzzle together and you end up with a hit-or-miss lesson (pardon the pun). It's expensive any way you slice it, but I'm hooked (again, pun intended). read more

Her golf instruction is good, but I constantly got the impression that I only progressed when my "lesson package" was about to end so I would need to sign up for a new one. i have been playing golf for 9 years competitively now and i have used a whole varity of coaches and used a lot of different coaching equipment but i have never used equipment as accurate and advanced as the technology used in the Performance center. Strapping up in a suit that shows your swing on a computer helps define where all the problems are in you swing. Then being able to compare your swing with other top players also helps to visualize what you should do. Terry Rowles is a very patient coach who is will help with not only your swing but also the mental side of the game. The center is indoors in a great location if you have a spare hour or two and need to get out the office i would definitly book an appoitment with Terry. read more

I've just had 4 lessons with Lisa Alee, who's now teaching at San Francisco Golf Performance Center. First, she's a great professional. She would start my lesson absolutely on time. She's nice and easy going, but most importantly, she completely changed my swing in 3 days! By using cameras she was able to detect what's wrong with my swing very fast. She then corrected it, with utmost attention to detail. I'm another golfer! My husband, who was also watching the lessons, was amazed by how much my swing's mechanic changed and how much better it's looking right know. He wants to come back to SF just to have lessons with Lisa! I had a great experience at SF Golf Performance Center. What's most important is that she really cares about her students. read more
