People are disappointed here because they play the 9 hole course. Like I said before, this is a PRACTICE range. It's not designed to be played by experienced golfers. You go there, hit some balls on the range, avoid the rude elder folks constantly chatting up a storm and you'll be fine. I think you get like 160-180 balls for $10. I have yet to find a place that can beat that. I repeat: do not play the course unless you want to challenge yourself with divots on the green. Kinda fun IMO. read more

I paid $16.00 for this? And for only 9 holes. The greens are terrible. You can have a 3 foot putt and have to go through enough divots and old ball marks its impossible to putt. I walked the course and caught up with a guy playing with a cart. And at the driving range I get a kick out of all the guys dressed up in their golf gear. Its a driving range guys. You play golf on a golf course. Never again. I can play decent courses like Franklin Canyon or Tilden in the East bay for $19.00 with a cart after 1pm. I'll stay in the east bay after this. But I did have a 6 sense when I played. I saw dead people. read more

Absolutely crap! Please do not go here. Let the cementery eat it up. I've played here once and I was done. It was a horrendous experience. WHere do I start? FIrst of all, they dont tell you they sanded the greens. OK that's bad... but they don't know what the meaning of sanding the green is. I mean the green was like a bunker. It wasn't grass with extra sand on the green. Some of the greens were completely covered in sand. It was like putting inthe bunker. Dont even bother aiming, it's not going in. No one knows how the ball rolls in a bunker. Secondly, the non-sanded greens were so crappy and uncut, that it was like putting on the fringe. So, there were NO greens to play on at all. The cart path was like a dirt road. Make sure you look around, because something might jump out of the woods and murder you. It was like a road from a horror movie. And the people.... oh the awesome customers who tried to pick a fight with us when we skipped a hole to get in front of them and told them NOT to drive on the green. This dude actually drove his cart on the green to get to the other side to find his ball. Are you kidding me? Oh yea... they were playing in a group of 8 and playing 3 balls each. WHich is why we skipped ahead. And they had the audacity to try and fight with us. Calling us awesome names like f***ot and a-hole in front of their 6 and 10 year old. Real classy. Of course we didn't fight back... someone had to show the little kids how to behave. All in all, this course was just crap. From the non-existent fairways which looked like all rough, to the fringe and bunker-like greens to the awesome people. Will I ever come back to Cypress? Yea probably when I'm dead and buried in the new cemetery that is going to be built over this jungle. If thre was an option for no stars, this one would get it. You know what... play this piece of crap once, and you'll appreciate any other course you will ever play in your life. read more

Man this place is TERRIBLE!!! The driving range isn't bad, but always super crowded. Once you get to the course, you'll find the most unkept, filthy and torn up 9 hole you'll see in long time. I didn't mind the divots and duck turd sprinkled throughout the 9, but the people that work there are just plain annoying!! The person in the pro shop was rude. The marshall was watching us like we were stealing something. Man what a dump. During the whole time we were on the course, there was noise from a nearby fire department squad practicing!! Just a horrible location to put a golf course. Doesn't anyone take care of this place?!!! My favorite was the six hole where there was nothing to step on but duck turd. Bottom line, driving range ok if you can find a spot, but the course is a definite miss!!! read more

Alright, this is a tough one. I wish I could give it two ratings: one for novice golfers and one for experienced hackers. I forgot the slope rating simply because it's an easy course...really, really easy. I took my wife out here because I heard it is good for Beginners. It is undeniably a fantastic place for someone new to the game to take their first attempts at full-length holes. The holes are short enough that newbies should be able to hit greens in regulation on the Par 4's. Anyone with an index under a 15 shoot bypass this course, unless you're looking to play with your up-and-coming buddies. The par 4's are insanely short with the exception of the 300-something yard third hole. (I forgot to save my scorecard.) There is a 227-yard Par 4 (I cannot understand why this isn't a Par 3 other than the course being for Beginners). The 282-yard 8th hole is fairly easy to drive given the prevailing wind direction and massively elevated tee box. I unintentionally surprised a threesome on the green and wasn't trying to hit more than 260 yards. The last hole is a 120-yard Par 3. Apparently it used to be a Par-5 cut short by the encroaching cemetery. Too bad. It would have been a nice way to finish. There is one negative factor no matter what level golfer you are. The quality of the greens is horrendous. The second hole green has patches of pure dirt. Every hole is a mix of old bent grass and some type of clover which has taken over. Putts simply do not roll true at all. It can be infuriating for a decent golfer and ego-crushing to a Beginner who has a chance at a good score on any given hole. They really should consider replanting every one of the greens. read more

Cypress is a decent little 9-hole course, good for beginners or working on your scoring game. The longest hole is a Par 4 of about 330 yards. All holes are either Par 3 or 4. While the course is poorly maintained and the greens are slow, it's not crowded (like most courses) and you can play 9 before work. If I was just rating the course, I'd give it two stars. But I added a star for the driving range and the short game practice area. read more

Granted that I've only hit balls at a shooting range twice now, this is not the most in depth review. That being said, this is a cool place for a sporty surprise date night stop. After winding your way through the outer Mission/Daly City, you end up amidst the cemeteries of Colma. Turning up a narrow twisty road, you arrive at the driving range and can catch glimpses city lights. It was windy as a all get out and the "pro-shop" dude was on the surly side of the spectrum, but I would say that those factors added to the appeal. Snag a few buckets, your flask, and go shag some balls. Hit up a taqueria, a pho place, or grab some Filipino food afterward and enjoy getting out of the City. 3.5 stars. read more

The driving range here is pretty good, with well marked distances, and inexpensive balls...$11 for 150 is cheaper then anywhere else in the area. You will need to purchase a rubber tee from the shop if you want one on the range. Plenty of stalls, free putting green, and a chipping area. The chipping area looks pretty poor, so haven't paid the $ to try it out. What impresses me, besides the cheap big range bucket is the markers. No other driving range I've been to has distance markers...including Lincoln, which is terrible with few markers, and not all distances are even listed on the range there. If you want to spend the extra gas money to drive here, combine it with your next trip to Target or Home Depot, and it's win-win. Otherwise, play a round at GG Park, it's cheaper. **NOTE: No longer a 9 hole course here. Employees told me it was sold to the cemetary next door due to negitive reviews and lack of attendance. read more

This is the most hideous Golf Course Ive seen, but hey its the most accessible one during weekdays. Since Cholo was impressed with my golf swing he wanted to me to "break in" the course already. Again, its not that great but he said that hed rather that I hit on grass compared to just the mat. He is very patient so he makes sure that I do the proper stance and the arm not bending and the follow through so that I have the proper form. He would remind me that just like tennis, I just have to be fluid with the motion. The guy at the counter who recognizes us by now since we play here like twice a week is very accomodating. Again, if you have both of us in front of you and all we do is giggle and guffaw, you need all the patience you can get. The one who takes care of the carts are nice too, Cholo likes that I speak Spanish to him. "feliz noches senor"...Very good Malou...Very nice. Although, conditions are not that great, we will keep coming back. read more

First time there, going back tmrw. I really enjoyed the range, laidback, easy to get to, the staff is super nice and the price is extremely reasonable. read more

Not bad for beginners like me. 9-hole course (5 par-3 & 4 par-4) which used to be different from what I was told (the last hole used to be a par-5, but since has been cutoff by the cemetery). Lots of hills, but fairly straight for the most part. Love the man-made "lake" on hole 5. Pace of play is pretty slow (2.5 hours on weekends)... partly because they don't group together different parties to speed up play. About 25 full range stalls, most of them with roofs but with worn out mats. You're hitting uphill into astroturf, and on foggy days you won't be able to see past the 100 yd marker. Quality of range balls are average. Fees were $18 for weekends & range balls come in $5/8/10 increments. Fairly lenient on rules & attire (haven't seen a marshall on the course). Never ate there but you can always go to Lucky Chances if you're hungry. Good place to play for beginners, and the crowd is generally chill even if you shank a shot. read more

i only come here for the driving range. pretty empty whenever we come so that's good. I'm not as good hitting it on ground level, than when I hit it from the second floor at the other place... why!?!? but besides that...no complaints... read more

This course is a piece of junk. The greens aren't maintained, so putting becomes a chore. Some of the tee boxes were not level, so it kind of throws you off a little. The only good things i like about the course is that it's a great course for beginners. It's a par3/4 course, so beginners get a chance to try out all their clubs. And because no one in their right mind is going to pay $18 for a junky course, you can generally take your time. I took a couple of friends and I told them to take their time. I just looked back once and while to make no one was coming up behind us. They had a better time without others pressing up on them and their speed of the game. Good for beginners and those that are out for a quick game. There are other nine holes in the bay that have better kept greens. I hope this helps. Enjoy. read more

Basic driving range. Just matts, some matts are on an incline, so keep that into consideration if you start pulling stuff to the left. You have to buy your own rubber tee. Inexpensive and close to my house, i'm there often. Cash only, but the office can give you change. read more

Cypress Golf Course is slowly being swallowed by the nearby cemetery. Figuratively and literally this course is slowly dying. As the entire course will probably be cemetery by the end of the next decade, they aren't spending much $ here to keep up the course and it shows! The good news is if you are a senior golfer, you can probably pre-purchase and survey your future cemetery plot as you stroll between holes. The course was just shortened a couple of years ago (to increase the area of the nearby cemetery) from what was a challenging (if rundown) nine holer, to an even shorter more boring dog track version.Unfortunately, in the shortening process they removed two of the best long holes (#1-par 4 and #9-par 5) and replaced them with two lame par threes. It was clear that the redesigner of the shortened track was no Pete Dye. Factor in that they killed off most of the greens in 2006 and 2007 (so they putted like crap), no open clubhouse and add a pitiful pro shop and you are hard pressed to have a good experience here. I mainly practice ($5 for short game) here at lunch, since it is near my job. If I want to play I go the extra 5 miles over to Gleneagles at McLaren Park for 9. read more

This is a great little 9 hole course. It's short, it has plenty of challenge and it is rarely packed. It's a great place for beginners to get comfortable with the game and the driving range is pretty nice. Recently, one of the cemeteries took back some of the land that Cypress had been leasing so the course is being worked on, but I have no doubt it will be back to its former glory soon. read more

Golfing with a crowd of thousands watching - stepping my game up. Well except the crowd isn't really alive and clapping. The course used to be fun, but they had to cut the yardage by a 1/3 to make room for more retired people - really really retired. Still OK for a near pitch and put course that you can get around of 9 finished under 1.5 hours. The driving range and area to practice your short game (pitching, chipping and sand game) are definitely the highlights. You used to be able to drink beers while driving the carts, but about a year ago some people got really loaded and flipped a few carts. Now you have to walk if you want to drink beer, making it the only course I know of that doesn't allow beers while using the golf carts. Hey at least the garbage dump at the top of the hill is now closed - that helps :-) read more

Driving range: big, large buckets of balls, shaded hitting areas, though some of the mats were pretty worn and there was a soft "give" to the hitting wooden box - like going over a freeway bump in a '78 Cadillac. The range is uphill and some of the distances didn't seem right to me. Range balls were in decent to good shape. Golf course: Probably the worst course I've ever played. Driving up I saw the sign that said "Learning Center" so I was prepared for a pretty rough course, but this was extreme. You really can't differentiate between tee boxes, fairways and rough - it all looks like rough. All overgrown, crabgrass here and there, and animal crap everywhere. Putting greens weren't much better. Bunkers had grass and weeds growing in them, and no rakes at all. That probably doesn't matter much since I'm thinking most of the people that play here wouldn't bother to rake the bunkers. It's a hike if you intend to walk. They've reformatted the course so don't always believe the yardages listed on the signs and benches. Some of the people playing here were nice but we had our share of douchebags- cussing and yelling and being totally oblivious to other players around them, crashing their golf carts into each other, locking the cart brake to skid into stops... every time they drove the cart. I understand golf in the City can be expensive but $18 for this dump is ridiculous. read more

I go to the range. Hubby goes to the course and range. Good for noobs that's why he comes here early am. Close to house. Grounds are not maintained much. Good enough to practice your swings. read more

I'm a new golfer, with no real 'standards' or 'expectations' as it relates to playing golf. That said, Cypress Golf Course, nestled among the funeral homes and cemeteries, managed to disappoint me. The Good: It's cheap to hit balls! You can get a bucket of 100 balls for something like $8. The driving range, too, is perfectly fine. FOr the most part, the tee-boxes are flat and they have both shaded as well as sunny options. There's also a fair number of driving range slots, which is good since that's realistically all you'll ever want to do there. The Bad: The putting green is slow. My boyfriend, who has been playing golf for 20 years, got so angry over the practice green that he actually told me not to bother with it because it was just going to teach me bad habits. The course itself was no better - on the first hole, you couldn't differentiate between the fairway and the rough! And once you got to the green, it was like mini-golf. We nicknamed this place the 'Goat Ranch' because it is just that poorly maintained. The other observation I'll make is that the cart paths and carts were in a state of complete disrepair. I don't have a walking bag yet (my clubs didn't come with one) so we had to get a cart, and that in and of itself was just frustrating. Oh! And its a 9 hole course! Did I mention that? Yeah, only 9 holes. I suppose I could have put that in the 'good' column, since it minimized the event. But yeah, if you're looking to play 18... you'll have to play the same 9 twice. Conclusion: This isn't a nice place to go to play golf. This is a nice place to go and hit balls. I gave it 2 stars because there was a redeeming factor... if there hadn't been the driving range, then it would have gotten a solid 1-star. read more

Going here makes me miss 6th street golf range in san francisco. Parking is always available. Make sure to bring correct change for the ball dispenser. People at the golf store look bored out of there minds, kinda creepy. All in all, this place is close to home so its convenient. A plus for this place is when I T off , the way the field slopes up makes it easy to keep track of my ball when im going for 200 plus yards. read more

They are allowing this course to die a slow death. I agree with all the other reviews. Good driving range, but tha is about it. Both fariways and greens in poor condition. The price is right, but you get what you pay for. read more

Golf course - less than a star. I have seen 2 major renovations on this course. This last one makes it basically unplayable. Before the last renovation it was really only the greens that really bothered me. Greens - minus 10 starts Duck poop - minus 5 stars Crass people - minus 2.5 stars [ unless they are funny + 3 stars ] The good news: If you pretend you aren't really playing and you visualize that you are going around a driving range hitting your ball, then it's not that bad. You can get around is just over an hour mid-week. Just think of it as "practice". The key is to trick yourself into not thinking of it as a "real" round. It can be all about expectations you know! But still it's a bit spendy for the conditions. The driving range is ok. Semi affordable with sun coverage. It's hard to get an accurate distance as you reach a hill at about 150 yards out. Some of the views are nice and the 2 long[er] holes at the top of the hill are ok. I would pass on the course unless you are deathly curious. Driving range is fine and I am glad it's there. 3 Stars Practice area is not really worth the $5 or whatever it is now. read more

I really like this place. Driving range is huge for being relatively close to downtown. It's kept in decent shape too considering the price. I'd rate it 5 stars but there are two points which I don't. 1) First, the putting practice green doesn't have holes but just uses those crappy markers which is stupid. 2) Second, the guy who runs the pro shop is apathetic and apparently hates his life. I'd expect to get "service with a smile" quicker from Eeyore than this guy. The pro there is a moderately slight prick as well. I can say this because I'm an a-hole myself and we know our own. I went to practice and he walked up and kept asking me stupid superficial questions during my backswing like where I live, work, etc. Don't talk during someone else's backswing dammit, haven't you ever seen There's Something About Mary? Then after half an hour he makes some snide remark about how I've "got a lot of work to do" after seeing me slice the ball a few times. Wow ya think I've got work to do... why do you think I'm practicing at the driving range, detective? But hey, aside from that crap this place is nice: 1) Large driving range. And most of the stalls are leveled well despite being on a hill, score! 2) It's in the mountains and coyotes sometimes get onto the field and chase the occasional ball you hit. Ha! 3) It's in Colma hence it's surrounded by graveyards. Personally I don't care. 4) Great parking. 5) Price is GREAT! $11 for 150 balls. Discounts when you buy more at a time! 6) Course itself isn't that bad. Quite nice for the typical public course. It's not Harding Park, that's for sure. But it's also not Lincoln Park either. You get decent, for the price of really crappy. A cheapskates dream for practice. See you there! read more

we were told that this place is great for beginners. so we decided to take our friend for his bday. i guess i was wrong. some old guy and his cronies came up to us and told us to get out of the way. first he told us that we should each have our own clubs. i wasnt there to really play but i can understand that, but he started complaining that were taking up too much time if we share clubs. well i understand that too. we were allowing other ppl to play through us cuz we didnt hold them up. then the guy tells us that we should go back to the clubhouse and rent some more clubs and started complaining to us about holding ppl up again. the he went down to complain the same thing to other newbie players. if those were the rules fine, he did not have to give us trouble and attitude. we spoke to the other players and they told us that the guy was the "owner" of the golf course and his crony friends told him to kick us and the other newbies out. thats a great way to appeal to your customers and clients. well... wasnt that unprofessional. THEN the "owner" and his friends started shooting over us. Wow, just Wow. They passed us up and went on to the next hole. Just so happens when they finished the next hole ahead of us, the maintenance crew started to look at us and started watering the grass the next hole while we were on it. The watering started right when we started the next hole and right when the old guy and his friends finished. did the "owner" hint to get us off the course? or was the maintenance crew just unprofessional and watered the grass while players were playing? Now we cant play because the grass is all muddy. regardless, the golf course was still being unprofessional. interestingly enough, we had enough of this BS so we got into our cart and left. as we walked off the green the maintenance crew kept staring us. once we left the hole, they stopped watering. hmmmm we went back to the club house to complain. management said that the crews are not suppose to be working on the grass when players are playing. we also complained about the "owner" to the management staff. we were told that no one should be harassing us on how to play even if were slow and if we paid. what was worst was that they WOULD NOT offer us a REFUND. They offered us only a raincheck. we only played two holes and we and some other players were told to leave by some older players. On our way out, we chatted with some other players who were ahead of us. They told us they wont be returning either. Some other players coming into the club house complained about the professionalism of the staff on this course. What I have to say: Economy is not that great right now. Treating your customers like crap wont help your business. Regardless of who was unprofessional, the clubhouse staff, the maintenance staff, or the "owner", nothing about this course was enjoyable. The only thing about this course that attracts people is that its cheap. thats about it. Also, grass is all dried up and patchy. For all "watering" they do, i guess it doesnt help. Dont let the photos fool you, the course looks like crap with unkept grass. Check out the other reviews, the grass is nothing to write home about. read more

This course is definitely a beginner course, you don't have to fear about the country club golf etiquette. Supposedly there's no dress code (that's what the employee over the phone told me), even though I saw a sign that said "collared shirts required". But jeans are allowed is what the employee over the phone said. So it's a nice change-up from the stuffy members-only type of golf courses. I wanted to take my husband here since he's never been on a course and has been wanting to get into golf more. It's true what the other reviews say about this course, you can't tell the rough from the fairway for the most part. There are patches of no-grass on the fairway. The terrain is tough, I broke my tee just trying to get it into the ground. Other things about it, is that it is wrapped around the cemeteries, which doesn't bother me. But a weird thing that we noticed was there was a lot of CATS there. Lots of stray cats wandering around. We saw at least 4 or 5 cats. I didn't think of it at the time, but cats on a golf course with a sand pit... that's one giant litter box for those cats. I didn't see any doo-doo but I'd watch out for that just in case. All in all, it's a good beginner course if you're afraid to mess up the pristine fancier golf courses out there. I would come back here and bring newbies here. However... I gave the one-star because of the "owner" and management here. I brought my husband here for his birthday and like I said he had never been on an course, but many times on the golf range. We were sharing my bag of golf clubs. And since we were beginners we were taking longer than experienced golfers would take of course. But we would let people play through us so we didn't hold anyone up. And we were having a grand ol time until the "owner" drives up in his golf cart (flying in his golf course ACROSS the fairway, i'm pretty sure you're not suppose to drive across the fairway, but then again it's his course and a crappy quality at that). He comes over to us and reprimands us for sharing 1 bag of golf clubs and how it slows down the game and we're holding people up. Then he told us that we had to go back to the clubhouse and rent golf clubs for each one of us. The thing I found odd is that there was a group of guys behind us that were also sharing a bag of clubs and he didn't reprimand them until I mentioned it to the "owner" that others were doing the same thing. We're asian, they were white... is it a racist thing? Not sure, but he did go and reprimand them after I mentioned it. The "owner" was playing with his old buddies behind the group of guys behind us. And the group of guys behind us let them pass them and so they were not directly behind us. But we were already in the middle of the #3 hole when the owner reprimanded and he told us that we could finish the hole. WHILE we're on the fairway, they started PLAYING on us. I may be new to the game, but I don't think you're suppose to start playing while others are on the fairway! Thank goodness they couldn't drive that far, otherwise we might've gotten pinged. After that we decided to let the old guys pass us. As Jason C. said his review, after the old guys finished playing the next hole, we followed them and the maintenance guys came out and turned on the SPRINKLERS and started watering down the entire hole with a HOSE. SERIOUSLY?! I think it was a message from the "owner" and his buddies for us to get off the course. It was so messed up that the maintenance guys even looking right as started watering the entire hole so we couldn't play it without sloshing onto the wet grass. If they watered the course this much all the time, I would think the course would be a LUSH green. Trust me, the cemetery grass was nicer than the golf course. So jacked up and this is why they get 1 STAR from me. read more

Definitely one of the best driving ranges I've ever experience. Artificial turf with high winds and occasional fog. On top of a hill, your ball seems to go farther, but beware, it will roll down. Just when you think you got three hundred yards out, it's like 225. The 9 holes are great for beginners and the 6th, I'd believed to be the best. The fairway is a man-made lake and is about 175 yards out, just becareful you don't hit it over, it will be hard to hit it back, just take the penalty. Other than that, this is great after 3pm for discounted carts and the price to pay. read more

Like previous folks have said, you get what you pay for. It gives me a good laugh to know that people are kind of freaked out by the nearby cemeteries. This review is solely for the driving range. Never got to play the course here prior to shutting down. The range however, remains in great condition with well placed markers. Definitely diggin' the fact that it's only down the street from my house n most importantly, CHEAP balls! It's like 150/$11.. can't be beat. Have not yet tried the short game but definitely come here for the driving range. Pinehurst by the pet cemetary. Since I live in SOMA and it takes me twice as long to drive to any of the courses in the city on a weekday than it does to Cypress, I tend to default to Bethpage by the burial grounds to squeeze in a few buckets after work when I have a tee time lined up for the weekend. The scenery isn't great but the buckets are cheap and the driving range is usually opened till 8:30pm, so consider Sawgrass by the sepulchers (ok, that's the last one) the golf equivalent of your weekly morning run to get you ready for the big race on Sunday. read more

This executive 9 hole course is not much to write home about. It is an interesting location for a golf course nestled in the hills of Colma surrounded my cemeteries and pet cemeteries. Kinda creeps me out peering out into a field of headstones. A plus that it has a driving range however the guy running the pro shop was a little bit of a jerk. Again, the thought of playing golf close to headstones was not very relaxing and conducive to future visits.... read more

Played here many many years ago when I started to learn the game of golf. That was at least 8 years ago and it was a fairly decent 9 hole from what I remember. 2 years ago, I came back to play this course when i heard they added a couple of new holes. Sure they added two new par 4's but the grounds were just awful. I vowed not to play here again. I recently noticed that cypress added a new website and the pictures they display is very deceiving. It must have been taken when they first put in the new renovated holes. I figured, wow cypress may have cleaned up the place, since I beleived those pics on the website were what I may be playing on. So I tried cypress today since I had a good 2 hours to kill. The whole course is even in worse shape then it was 2 years ago. Gopher mounds all over the fairways, weeds growing out of bunkers, dried up greens is just a few things you will encounter on this terrible course. I played 4 holes and I was done, very sad shape. There is not one thing positive on this course and it seems like t Cypress doesn't plan on fixing up the course in the least. If you make the trip here, hit range balls, the range is probably the only worthwhile thing here. read more
