I've been to this bike repair shop twice now and they've done a great job getting my very old bike back into rideable condition. As someone who knows nothing about bikes except how to ride one, I appreciate the info the owner provides and how quickly he tries to get things turned around. The first time, I jusy had a full bike diagnostic and tune up which took a few days and seemed to be a reasonable cost of ~$80. Recently, I returned because my back wheel went flat all of a sudden and off the track. The owner saw it and luckily had all the supplies and fixed it on the spot so a new wheel and inner tube with install and removal of the old one all within like 15minutes was only like $60. I appreciate the quick, no nonsense attitude of the owner and everyone there seems to just want to help folks get back on their bikes asap. read more

The person who works there came out & I asked about pricing for derailleur and brake adjustments, his first response was "who built this bike...? It looks like it was built by someone at home".... Saw the store in passing and was exited about a bike store in our neighborhood. Wanted to buy my 3 yr old a bicycle that she's been asking for for a while and decided to support a local business. My daughter liked the pink bicycle they had parked outside. Upon opening the door, handle in one hand and my daughter's hand in the other, a large dog - some type of German Shepherd mix - storms out and bumps his head into my daughters head, hurting her. The dog then proceeds to walk into the street. I try to calm down my daughter, who was of course scared and crying (the dog was twice her size), and I'm still flabbergasted by the unexpected encounter when the store owner snaps at me: "Don't let other people's dog out of the door!" Wtf?!! These seriously were his first words. No apology, no explanation and not even a hello. I thought I had not heard right, but then he continued: "Call the dog back and get inside!" Excuse me?!! Needless to say that we did not go inside. Also, we won't ever give them our business. Stay away from this place, there is tons of bicycle stores in Houston who actually care about their customers. read more

He told me that whoever build it did a crappy job (which was me btw) then charged me about $80 for tune up only to find out that my original problem was still there. Small bike shop. They didn't have much attire and the mechanics didn't speak english but the owners seemed very nice and were willing to answer questions. As far as prices go it was 12 dollars to true a tire and 50 to get a tune-up. I might give them a try. The owner claims they have been around for 20+ years. I was sent to this shop from another, for a free hub replacement and new gear control wires. I was greeted promptly, and Daniel inspected my bike and really took the time to understand what I wanted. My bike was ready in two days, the repairs are working beautifully, and they make my bike look better, too! This is a very good bike shop for about every cycling need. A family run business that goes the extra mile for their customers. They set up a new large spindle, outboard bearing crankset on my vintage Titanium road bike in 15 min. yesterday. No Problem. Not the biggest bike shop but among the very best ! Mark the owner has a tremendous amount of experience in the Bicycling Industry and is the kind of guy you want helping you. He has in depth knowledge of all the major bike brands and the good and bad related to each. He has a business to run & manage but works to take care of each customer according to their needs. If given the chance, you will see he is a real tinkerer at heart. He will use his skills as a mechanic and diligently work to fix any bike or component till he gets it right. Little known, but true, is the fact that Mark & his main mechanic Daniel do work for the other bike shops that they send back to their customers. I maybe should keep this to myself but Mark is a true wheel building guru. read more

5 stars for having reasonably-priced bikes that are good quality, and 3.5 stars for quality of service. I bought my first mountain bike ever here after spending a lot of time looking around at the various shops. I went right when it opened, but unfortunately the sales guy didn't show up until 10 minutes later. By that time, an entire family of potential bike owners had come and gone. I stayed, and luckily I was rewarded. Once he unlocked the door, the sales guy was initially a little unfriendly, but as we talked, he warmed up. He did a good job detailing the features on the bike I was looking at, and he spent a lot of time comparing features of bikes I had seen at other stores so I could make a good choice. I test drove the bike (a Jamis...entry level mountain bike) in the Black Eyed Pea parking lot, and the price was right. Although you may or may not find the bike you want here, and the service isn't stellar like at Bike Barn or Daniel Boone's, it's one of the places you'll want to include in your quest to purchase a new bike. They have some different brands than many of the other shops, so you can try them and compare. read more

My GF brought my bike in to get the rear tire fixed, as it was flat. The shop person told her the bike was a piece of crap & to return it & buy a different one. I needed a bit of air for a tire once & the owner (I'm assuming) took care of it, no problem. That experience was great, but to have a company tell you they won't repair your bike? Not because they can't, they just won't. "I send people back all the time, just tell them this is the biggest pile of crap..." That's not how you do customer service. read more

I had a broken spoke and called them about rebuilding the wheel. He said he couldn't take that on right now because of backlog of work but to bring the wheel by and he could probably replace the spoke. It took some effort because it was laced to support an electric hub motor but he was able to fix it. I asked if he thought it needed to be rebuilt and he said that it was probably ok as long as I did not keep breaking spokes. I really appreciated him helping me out when other bike shops said it would take 3 weeks. I plan to keep using Cyclone because I got great service. read more

These guys sold me loose ball bearings from their parts bin for a few dollars and ran back inside (social distancing policy) a few times for other knick-knacks I needed. Great service to me when I was buying very little. That means such service is a habit and a culture, not just about the money. I'll be back for sure. read more

Where to start. The staff is nice and knowledgable which is the only reason they are getting 1 star. If you buy a bike somewhere else and come by for accessories or a quick tune up they will charge you up the butt!!! My chain was not lubricated, the individual put some lubricant which took him like 5 minutes and they charged me $15!! Great place! I took my wheel to Blue Line to get trued and the mechanic there called and told me my axle snapped but it would be several days before they could even order the replacement part (my bike is a 1980's Trek). I called around to pretty much every bike shop in Houston and Cyclone Cycles was the only place that had the right part. Got there with my gimpy wheel and the mechanic fixed the axle and trued my wheel in no time at all and it only cost me $21. While I was looking around I noticed that they had a nice selection of old school bikes and one particularly awesome LeMond frame. Even though it's out of the way, I will definitely be going back next time I need work done on my bike. read more

Horrible customer service, hidden charges and rude owner! I was quoted $20 to put on some forks then came back to find my new bike needed a "bike tune up" which of course costs a ridiculous $86. I tried to speak to the owner but he got very angry and I decided to go another route. Horrible service. Went there on a Saturday with my 2 yr old to ask about a baby seat for my bike which was on a rack attached to my Tahoe outside. Instead of offering to walk outside to look at my bike to see if the seat would fit - he wanted me to take the bike off the rack and bring it inside. There were no other customers in the store. Lots of attitude. I went to Bike Barn instead where the staff was happy to walk outside and help out since I had my baby with me. read more

I opened my yelp account specifically to write a review about Cyclone Cycles. I am relatively new to cycling. Cycling can be a very expensive hobby/sport, so the purpose of my review is to warn people who are new to the sport. There are many bike shops to choose from in Houston. In my opinion, this shop is below average. Yes, this place has many used bikes for sale. I have also heard from numerous people that Cyclone Cycles is a great place for bike parts. I can't say anything negative about the employees at Cyclone. However, I can tell you that I had a negative customer experience with the owner, Mark. I bought two bikes from Mark last summer. In less than a week, I referred another friend who also bought a high level Jamis road bike. Given the fact that I brought Mark a significant amount of business in a short time, I expected some level of referral appreciation. I thought that maybe he could throw in a couple of free helmets or discounts on other accessories/services. Mark wouldn't budge. That bothered me at the time, but I figured, thats just how some business owners are sometimes....clueless. Word of mouth referrals are usually appreciated. In the past year, I've visited Sun & Ski and Planetary Cycles. Both of those shops, especially Planetary Cycles, provide customers with excellent service, whether you are a beginner or an expert. I was surprised to hear a number of employees at both Sun & Ski and Planetary Cycles that know Mark, the owner of Cyclone Cycles, fairly well. When asked where I bought my Jamis Ventura road bike, I would usually get the same chuckle and response, "oh Cyclone Cycles. Yeah, I know Mark. I wouldn't recommend him for anything other than buying parts." After gaining experience, I now know that Mark failed to fit us properly. Mark insisted that the lowest seat post height was too high for my girlfriend's bike. He instructed one of his employees to saw the seat post to lower it for her. Now we know that it was far too low. We've since raised the seat and she's much more comfortable. Again, this is how beginners can get jacked up! A more seasoned cyclist may have had a more positive experience, but beginners will ultimately have to trust that a bike shop is giving them reasonable and fair information. Cyclone Cycles cannot be trusted to do that, in my opinion. Check out Planetary Cycles. They're privately owned and I've seen both owners in the shop. They seem very involved and have a number of helpful employees who know what they're doing. They can respond to requests from experts but also talk to beginners respectfully. Sun & Ski Sports on Westheimer is also a good bike shop. read more
