    Bicycle
    Anna Z.

My fiancé and I just moved into the area and we were looking for bicycles. Due to the pandemic, it's nearly impossible to find one online so I was recommended Cyclesport by a friend who lives close by. We called a few times and were eventually able to get our first hybrid bikes! (Picture of mine attached) Despite all the bad that has taken place with the pandemic, you can't help but also look for small moments of good. My friend said that maybe people are more likely to rely on local shops for their bicycles now. I think if it wasn't for the shortages of bicycles we would have just ordered online -but if we ordered online from amazon, REI, or any other website, we would have never had the same type of experience as first time bike riders that we have at a local business like Cyclesport. We've mostly been working with Garrett at Cyclesport, who has been so patient and taught us much about our bikes and accessories. When we picked up our bikes, Garrett gave us the ins and outs of each feature thoroughly, despite it being 6 pm on a Friday night, which is when they close. We ended up buying lights and helmets for our bikes too and Garrett went through all the options for us, helping us choose the best ones for us based on our needs. When we purchased lights for night riding, Garrett helped attach them to the bike, showing us exactly where everything goes and how to fixate them to the bike, along with how to adjust our helmets. I know this might sound like easy stuff for an experienced bike rider, but when you're first starting, all the information on the internet and manuals can be daunting. Garrett has been a great teacher to us about our bicycles throughout the whole way, even writing out directions to a few recommended bike trails (again on a Friday night, during closing). I would definitely recommend this place to anyone starting out biking, or even experienced. If we ordered online, I don't think we would have gotten the same amount of care, customer service, and thorough teaching about our bikes and accessories that we got here. We're really happy we shopped local for our bikes, and thankful for all the help from Cyclesport.

    Front wheel nut

A few months ago, we purchased a new toddler bike from Cyclesport. Today, as I was preparing the bike, I noticed that one nut holding the front wheel was missing so I went with my son to the store to buy one. The mechanic said that, even by looking at the nut, he was unable to determine the size and suggested to bring in the bicycle. My request to purchase one regardless of the size was declined. I view this tactic as either being woefully unqualified and inexperienced or, worse, attempting to make dishonest buck, or both.

Best place to buy a bike. Get a bike serviced or get bike parts. I've been a customer for over five years.

At no point should bolts randomly fling off your bike while you going down the Brooklyn bridge going 24mph. I'm a high school student and I had to pay for my bike with my own money. I've been working since 10th grade to help my mom because she is a single parent so for me the loss of about 5k including repairs leave me without transportation as I can not afford to repair it at this point. I've spent 3.7k on a bike, this isn't including the repairs i had to pay over the span of a year which amount to at least 1.4k+ after random bolts detaching and motor failing, and as soon as the warranty expired my bike had a random electrical issue where the bike wouldn't accelerate. Did you know that Lake Hopatcong is NJ's largest freshwater lake?…read more And did you also know that there's a great little place on the lake that lets you rent all sorts of strange inventions like a 'pedalboard' and a 'hydrobike' (along with the classics like kayaks and paddleboards) - so you can cruise along the lake, get a bit of exercise, fill those lungs with fresh air and more importantly... work up an appetite (so you can hit The Windlass right after)? I tell you it's true. All true. There were six of us (celebrating a birthday) - 5 on hydrobikes, 1 on a pedalboard. The lake is drop dead gorgeous and we went when it was still early and a bit overcast so it wasn't too crowded with boats and jet-skis and the like. (Waves/wakes from other boats can really dampen your own fun... so that stuff matters a bit.) But I gotta be honest: it was a lot of work. Unlike a kayak where you might get a nice 'bite' with your oar and can coast a bit... the bike is akin to being pneumatic (you stop pedaling and you almost immediately come to a halt as well). And those seats? They are not comfortable at all. Sore dupas all around (the following day as well, actually). But we all had a great time. The crew (Patty and Joe, I believe) were really cool, total professionals, and we always felt like we were safe as well having a great time exploring some of the lake and adjoining islands and whatnot. (We would definitely return in the future but would lean towards a kayak and not do the bikes again.) Wear sunblock, bring water, not sure if it was just me but my right foot was pretty soaked by the end whereas my left was dry (so you'd be better off wearing an old ratty pair of sneakers, regardless). Post-pedal was The Windlass (excellent) as well as some mini-golf (also excellent). Lots to do in this lovely part of Jersey. (But it'll cost ya!)

A cousin of mine tried the hydrobikes and lived it, so I thought I would give it a try. I asked a…read morefriend to come with me and he said it looked like a pain in the ass. I made a reservation online. Patty was so friendly and made it a great time! She let me use some sun block and fill up my reusable cup at their water fountain. She told me that I would probably like the standup paddle board better because it had better maneuverability. I took her advice. It was a lot of excise and fun as we rode around and she told me about the history and pointed out different areas around the lake. We even picked up some trash from inside the lake and it made me happy to know that there are good people out there who are also passionate about the environment. It was hot and I "accidentally" fell in and got to enjoy the water a little bit. Patty also gave me restaurant and hiking recommendations around the area and even took a picture of me. You may be able to call and make a same day appointment, but online will only allow the following day. I don't think it's with bringing or risking losing your camera or phone out on the lake, there isn't anything really photo worthy.
