When I stopped in for some air, since this shop is a mile from my house, the owner looked at my Specialized bike and told me he will put me "on a more comfortable bike" suggesting that I bought a bike that I do not understand or is out of my ability. Rude? Yes. When I shopped for bikes for my kids, I bypassed the place and bought mine in Ft Lee! After 20+ years of patronage, I am never to step in there again because the owner condescends on his customers! Not everyone who rides a road bike rides 10,000 miles, but a local shop owner should not make them feel inferior when they have supported them for so many years. read more

I highly recommend Tenafly Bicycle Workshop. I recently purchased an Orbea Gain with them and I couldn't be happier with the entire process. Kevin helped with my order and made sure I ordered the correct size. He fitted the bike for me when it arrived and made some small tweaks to my set up. The vibe there is awesome. They have great bikes and great accessories. Definitely check them out if you are in the NY Metro area. It is a wonderful Local Bike Shop and worth supporting. Decided to get back into mountain biking and purchased a new Ibis Mojo 4 from Tenafly. It took 5+ months to receive it but now couldn't be happier. Alex and the crew at Tenafly did a great job of getting It put together and getting it setup properly. Can't wait to get it out on the trails when the weather let's up. Update: I brought the bike back the following week and the guys were pleasant (again!) and replaced the cable and cable housing. *** original *** I stopped here earlier today after an accident on my way home. The guys in the shop were courteous, and helpful; the looked at my bike right away. They pronounced the bike safe to ride home (thank goodness) and offered to adjust the derailleur (which was slipping a lot after the accident). They spent about 30 minutes working on it before returning it to me. The repair cost $20 which seemed reasonable for the time spent. The bike worked perfectly at first but after about 5 miles the derailleur began slipping again on hills. No bueno. read more

First time here to get a basic maintenance for my 5+ year old bike. Pretty cool deco inside with a bunch of bikes hanging around the walls. Daniel assisted me and was super friendly. He made sure to be punctual and have the bike ready for me in 2 hours. $68 for my basic maintenance and my bike came out as new! Would definitely recommend. read more

PROS: The staff here is the nicest you'll ever meet. The quality of the merchandise here is great and despite the prices being a little high, it's for the quality of the item. The staff is knowledgable about biking and can even fix your bike if you need them too. There are even cycling groups that dispatch from the shop ever now and then. They allow you to test ride the bikes if you choose to, and they also have a lot of different stuff to buy relating to cycling. CONS: Parking is very poor. There lot is small and the street is usually filled up. Inside, the building is small and flooded with gear, but despite the gear making it hard to move around in, they don't have a lot of stuff. They may provide all the materials you need, but the quantity isn't there. OVERALL: I think it's a very cute little bike shop where the staff is mostly nice and very knowledgable. There are many small bike shops but I think this is the most reputable. I recommend completely. read more

You can't go wrong with this shop! The entire shop is staffed by people most interested in getting you on the right bike or mechanics who know how to fix/build bike like pro's. I did a lot of looking around for my last MTB purchase and the level of service here was simply the best. Not only do they carry great brands, they seem truly committed finding the best bike for your riding style and price point and then they have the technical ability to tune the bike to how you want it to perform (and they will not stop until they get it right for you). You're not going to get that level of service on the internet or from a big box store (good luck getting them to set it up for you or fix it.) Tenafly's mechanics are outstanding and went out of their way to build the bike right. I'll definitely be a repeat customer. read more

I discovered a flat last Thursday when I was preparing to leave on a ride to the City. A flat repair does not usually warrant a review, but I had just had a flat last Saturday while riding, and took the bike to a local bike shop which promptly "fixed" the flat tire. I was quite concerned to find another flat & took the bike to Kevin, at Tenafly Bicycle. He not only fixed the flat, but discovered & replaced the worn out liner which protects the tube from the spoke heads. Perhaps the cause of the first flat? The attention to detail that Kevin & his staff pays to their craftsmanship is the reason that my husband & I will not take our bikes anywhere else...except in an emergency! read more

I've had my yelp account since 2014 but too lazy to post anything until now. So I was looking for a shop to install my aero drop bar and SRAM eTap. I fired several email inquiries as well as calls to bike shops near my place. After much consideration, I decided to try their service out. - While other bike shops answers your email really late or several days/weeks after, I'm really glad to say that this is one shop that answers them at a very timely manner. - The store looks a whole lot better in person compared to the pictures posted. The place is clean and bigger inside than viewed from the outside. - Based on the Yelp pictures, I thought they mainly catered to mountain bikers but they do carry road bikes as well. - The price they quoted me was on par with other LBS "nearby" (except for 1 store where I got a ridiculous pricing and a surcharge for mail order stuff - and I purchased my Cannondale here..WTF??!) . Shout out to my bike mechanic as he did a pretty awesome job IMHO. Handle bar with pin strips and my eTap install shifts perfectly. Based on my first experience, I would recommend this shop and I would most likely come back for other services. I'm really happy with the service - excellent all around!!! read more

Tenafly Bicycle Workshop is one heck of a bike shop. I first came here because they were near my home. But I kept coming back because their service is top notch and their mechanics definitely know what they're doing. They have yet to steer me wrong and I'm not an easy customer to please, so that's saying something. There are other bike shops nearby, but this one is the only one for me. They made my yeti sb5 turq purchase as simple with all the information i could ever want. Their staff are knowledgable about all types of bikes and even all the trails and some that are hidden gems. The store is very overpriced. On 2 occasions I went there and was very surprised at their prices. They charged me over 19 dollars for a tire tube that was 10.00 at REI. They overcharged me on working on my new ebike as well. Charging over 200.00 for adjustments on a new ebike and putting on a drop seat. Working on a bike I didn't buy there shouldn't cost a arm and leg. They took advantage. Won't go there again. read more

Awesome service and I highly recommend. I am no bike expert- average guy with a bike needing a once over for anything needed on an older bike. They were welcoming and were very nice. Digital communication about progress and when to pick up. They have a showroom of bikes to sell, but also realized a "casual cyclist" and did my tune up in 4 days at a reasonable price and without intimidation for an upgrade. I would like to become more advance and take the next step but didn't know where to go till now. The guys at Bicycle Workshop are awesome. They have consistently provided super friendly and knowledgeable service. It's nice to go to a place and just hear the happiness in the voices of the staff as they explain the benefits of some new gear or a local lesser known trail. They are truly passionate about what they do and it shows. They have provided quick repair (to tires) and general tune ups. They were, also, helpful in fitting my wife with shoes for spin. Bicycle Workshop have also been helpful in suggesting replacements for my aging starter bike (which I might add are in the Macy's Santa vein [meaning they've suggested things they don't deal in/sell]). I love this place. TBW is what a bike shop should be and then some. They care about what they're selling and that their riders are having a great experience on the bike. I would trust any of their mechanics with my precious rides, which means a lot as I generally prefer to do all my own wrenching. I'd also add that they're all super nice people and go the extra mile in terms of supporting the local riding community, be it events, trail maintenance or leading rides; they're out there growing the riding community and that's huge. Bottom line, I'm not in NJ that often, and TBW is the only shop I'll be returning to. They're tops. read more

I purchased my first road bike from Tenafly Bicycle Workshop - a Cannondale Synapse S105 - and I encountered friendly, knowledgable staff who love biking and are willing to help a newly minted road rider. Shepard, Monier, and Kevin were all great, and not once did I feel pushed to buy anything (they didn't need to I kept finding things to equip myself with).... The owner is obnoxious. He will speak to you if you are a 'regular' that is there to buy a $3000 bike. I arrived with my 8 year old son to buy him a new bicycle. My son was looking at some kids bikes, basically just standing by them and holding onto the handlebars. He never climbed onto the bike, moved it, or did anything else. The owner saw this and told me to get my son away from the bikes. Real nice. One of his workers came back to help us, but by that point, I knew we would shop elsewhere. This was not a first impression of the owner. He has been rude in the past. This just confirmed to me his ignorance on how to run a business. read more

If you're looking for a new bike or need work done I wouldn't go any place else. Been on the search for a shop after moving back from Oregon (obviously it's harder to find a place you want to stick with here in NJ since you don't have much choices) but this place by far reminds me of the shops back in Portland and even if it means driving past 1 or 2 bike shops I highly recommend taking the extra 10 minutes to drive to them.
