I rarely write bad reviews, but this is a real doozy. I brought my Trek mountain bike in for a chain replacement. I paid cash the day after it was ready, and about an hour after riding down the streets of Chatham and Madison the whole apparatus came loose. I locked the bike to a tree with a great lock that they sold me. I politely asked for a refund of the labor costs, and I would be happy to pay for the hardware, and of course the lock they sold me. The tall, beady eyed salesperson looked at me suspiciously and went into the big house bike shop. He never came out. I left. About an hour later, I received a call from the Chatham police that the store had called for a "wellness check" of me because I seemed intoxicated. I am clean and sober since 4/6/20. The store finally surrendered and mailed me my labor cost. read more

I have been a customer of Bikeland since 2006. The guys are mild mannered, honest, knowledgable, and skilled. Gerardo is a master mechanic. Oscar, the business owner, has a heart of gold, and is interested in getting more people on bikes. I recently ordered two new Bianchi e-bikes from Bikeland. Oscar was able to snag them from the first container of e-bikes to hit the United States. Wow, great job Oscar. Oscar and gang are great. I've bought several bikes from them, new and used, and he's always given me a fair price and excellent service. They have group rides several times a week and are considerate of less experienced riders, but also offer lots of help to experienced riders such as myself. Ten miles into a ride I discovered a broken spoke. I also discovered I was only 1/2 mile from Bikeland in Chatham. The shop was crazy busy during the pandemic, but the owner lent me a wheel while he installed a new spoke. I completed my ride and swung by on the return. Great customer service! read more

Recently had a wonderful experience at Bikeland in Chatham with Oscar. I went there with the intention of purchasing two mountain bikes for my six year old twins. After quickly realizing that the bikes we were looking at were just a little to big for my twins (24" wheel HaroMTB), I asked if we could see the next size down. Oscar came out with two used 20" mountain bikes, a blue Trek and a green Jamis. The wheel size was perfect for my twins, but I asked about the used bikes. Oscar simply stated that new bikes are almost always preferred, but because my twins were just a bit too small for the 24" wheels that we might be better saving a little money so that we can get them the larger new bikes the next year. Experiences like this are the reason I tend to prefer shopping local, but the simple act of looking out for what is best for my kids instead of cashing in on a purchase I was already committed to impressed me so much I wound up pulling the trigger on a purchase I was on the fence with - a new bike for my wife and I. Two days after we left Bikeland, my daughter decided that she did not want the bike she had initially selected. I called Oscar to explain the situation and he immediately ordered out a new Haro Flightline 20'' bike for her, which she now loves. Oscar allowed me to hold onto the original bike until the new bike came in. Overall, Oscar treated my family as an investment instead of a sale. Very rarely do I feel so positive about a purchase weeks after it was made, but the time he invested in my family and I to ensure we were happy with our purchase, regardless of sale price, has turned me into an advocate for his business. read more

At least for the things we bought (eg, Joe Blow bike pump) they beat or match Amazon/online prices, and offer a good selection (no cheap Chinese dime a dozen stuff). They are all about bikes. Small shop as you would expect in a town of Chatham. It's a family business who knows bikes. The youngest member at least in my daughter's eyes was happy to assist my daughter as she tested her bike run in the parking lot next door. He was basically chasing her (gave him some good exercise) as she did several rounds around the lot. My daughter fell in love with the pre-assembled bike (Jamis Starlite) and took it home the day we first stepped into the bike shop. It's a couple of hundred $ but I expect if I go back they would adjust her seat and bars to her level if she grew a couple of inches. read more

I brought my bike for a tune up. Oscar took to time to explain to me the handlebar is too wide for my size. He made recommendation to change the right size and grade of handlebar. Now my bike not only a lot smoother after tune up, I feel better riding on the right sized bike. I highly recommended Oscar and his shop. read more

I bought my first road bike from Oscar about 10 years ago while training for first triathlon. Oscar lent me a bike at no cost that I trained with for almost 2 months until he found one in my price range. I recently passed down that Bianchi to my son. Love that bike...great value. I bought two bikes from them for my kids last year. After i took the training wheels off one bike i noticed that the crank was bent. i brought it back to them and while at first they seemed shocked it was bent and couldn't understand how that could happen, they replaced it for free. I read some of the other reviews. I think its tough running a small business in todays big box environment. I appreciated that when I asked them to do the right thing, they came through. It would have been easy for them to charge me for the repair and lose a customer. read more

Had high hopes for this place but was let down . I took my new road bike there to be assembled and informed them to put everything on with torque wrench and to specs , I also asked them to check the wheels and true them if needed they assured me they would. after payment (not cheap for the work they had done)I had nothing but problems after the build..they didn't use a torque wrench to put things to spec the wheels where not true And I had a flat...I took the bike back 2 times to fix the issues ...then finally gave up after the run around from them .I just went to another bike shop who showed me my bike was not assembled correctly and not to torque specs ,i had a flat due to a pinch inside the wheel to the rim when it was assembled and how my wheels where not true....I paid to have everything re done at the other bike shop and now its much better.... Dont waste your money at bikeland II nice people but bad bike builds. read more

This place is worth the trip from NYC! Took under an hour. They gave me a great deal on a used bike and Zoshe adjusted my bike till it fit perfectly. Just had three bikes serviced there. Two for spring tuneups and one to replace the rear deralleur. We rode the bikes around to check out their work and they were all smooth as silk, clean as a whistle, and braked on a dime. The bikes were ready when they said they'd be ready and service with a smile. I highly recommend them. As a Yelper who takes this forum seriously, I feel compelled to advise that the negative review from Frank S. is most likely bogus; at this writing he had only 1 review and even fewer friends. read more

This was the last place that I stopped to try and find the perfect bike for me and I was astounded how nice and helpful the staff was. I didn't have any idea of what I wanted and they were willing to show me all different types of bikes and let me take them all out for test rides until I found the perfect one for me. I didn't think that I was going to find anything but was so surprised and I walked out of there with a great bike at a great price as well. They are willing to help you as much as you need and you are allowed to really take the bikes out to test them out before you buy them. I would recommend this bike shop to anyone who really wants to feel like they are cared about and who wants great products at a great price. I would definitely go back to have it serviced and if I ever need a bike in the future that is the place I will be going! read more

I came in looking for help organizing a family bike ride/picnic and they were more than happy to help us get set-up. You can tell this shop is staffed by nothing but true cycling enthusiasts! They were also supportive and encouraging to my 11 year old son who was trying to complete his own bike repair, and had all the parts on hand at good prices. Nice! This store and its owners/employees go above and beyond. I recently purchased a Jamis Durango Comp from them and their main concern was that I was completely satisfied. They moved and tweaked....asked me to ride it ....then moved and tweaked things again and did so until it was exactly the way I wanted it. Oscar was an amazing help and a genuinely nice person. I'm happy to have found a place that takes such pride in good business and workmanship not to mention truly care for the customers. I should mention that I did the typical thing...shop the internet etc... While you may think you found a better deal on-line etc...after having purchased here, I don't' think you couldn't save enough to justify losing the service that you receive at Bike Land II. But its hard to find reasonably priced good quality causal bicycles; Target/Walmart/Dick don't have anything decent. Recently had a flat tire on my bike. The gear system is internal so I was having difficulty re-affixing the tire after I changed the tube at home. Guy on the phone told me that it would be no problem to come on in and that he'd help. When I get to the store I make it clear that I'd like some help so that I can learn how to do this on my own (removing the break and gear cables can be difficult if you don't know how). Guy incredulously responds saying that "no bike shop will show you how to do this." Having been to several fantastic shops in NYC that would definitely do this (718 Cyclery in Brooklyn, NYC Velo in Manhattan, and even REI) I know this to be ridiculous. After being told by his coworker to leave the work area (the tech eventually said he'd show me but was not really even doing that) they told me it would cost 50 (!!!) bucks. I'm pretty sure a tube change can't cost more than 25 bucks and in this instance this was MY spare tube. After some more arguing, I settled on giving them $25 eventually just to make this experience end. This shop cares nothing about the community and only about making money. I get it. They're a business. But isn't the point of a local bike shop to create a positive sense of biking within the community? I'm new to the area and in the market for a new road bike. Bravo bike land- you've lost what could have been a great customer. Also there's often a small children's bike painted white outside the front window. It resembles the ghost bike project that's all over the world. If you don't know about this, the bikes are memorials placed where people were killed on bikes... Very strange. read more
