this cvs is like an ex-boyfriend of mine:: flaky, but there in time of need. inventory isn't consistent and the staff is too busy walking around looking busy, but when i needed dry oregano in a pinch*, they had it. when i had a rare case of mindblowingly painful cramps, the midol gleamed at me from the shelf. when i wanted to protect my fair-skinned counterpart from the sun, there it was:: spf 100. the fact that it's open 24 hours is comforting, and i don't think i've checked out at the register once because their self-checkout booths are rarely busy. and that's nice, because i like servicing myself. dammit. that didn't come out right. --- *pun intended. read more

I've been using this CVS pharmacy for over 5 years now. My expectations are low from a CVS in the middle of the city, but this one has been pretty great. A lot of the people staffing the pharmacy from day to day are pharmacy students so sometimes I'll have a favorite person there and soon they'll be gone, but as someone who has multiple health needs, I really appreciate having a decent pharmacy near by. Lately the students are a little less friendly, but I know another batch will come through soon. The head pharmacist is really nice. As for the store itself, people on here are complaining about prices being high but at any DC CVS that is the case and when things are on sale or you have the right coupon you can get great deals, you just have to avoid buying things at full price. I go in and grab items that are on sale almost weekly and get great deals. Additionally, people are complaining about homeless men and women in and outside the store. This is not a CVS problem- this is the problem of the times we live in, a societal problem that we cannot be expected to be shielded from everywhere we go. Without CVS and other similar stores homeless people would not be able to eat or drink, the homeless people there have never bothered me, they are part of life in an American city. Overall I think CVS on Vermont does a good job of giving community members what we need on the day to day and meeting our pharmacy needs. read more

The staff here at the pharmacy and the front are helpful. The pharmacists are engaging, sincere and you feel cared for. I have been to several CVS branches in the years have lived in DC and other pharmacists are not only disengaged, they snipe in front of the customer. Not cool. I commend the staff here for being attentive, sincere and real. Keep it up! read more

Pretty much everything you would expect from a CVS in a city. With a few exceptions, it employs an unhelpful staff, generally everything you need on a particular day is out of stock or in the wrong place. If it wasn't for the self check out, you can bet you'd be in line for an hour. The pharmacy is even worse. One of the male pharmacists is good. The rest of the pharmacists I have dealt with are all pretty incompetent and rude. I have to go to a different location for medicine now because they are always unapologetically out of stock, and totally unwilling to ever help with anything. This is particularly obnoxious since one of my scripts gets filled there, and I need to get the other one some place else. The store itself is fine, it's close to my apartment, and I don't expect much from CVS. But really, it might be useful to get a pharmacy that has medicine in stock. read more

I hate almost all CVS stores but this one is a winner. Speaking for the pharmacy itself which is all that really matters. The staff are efficient, friendly and my in-stock success rate seems much better than most. Never had a screw up or rude/aloof service which seems the norm at many locations. Recommended. read more

Just moved into the area and had my first visit to the pharmacy for a flu shot. The employees were super helpful and quick and Amir in particular was fantastic. Didn't feel the needle at all from my shot and he was so nice during the whole experience. Maybe I'll go get another one! read more

The head pharmacist there, Amir, is one of the hardest working nicest pharmacists I've met. I hear him giving his staff pep talks and guidance and he sets an amazing example of customer service. It wasn't always this pleasant to drop off prescriptions there! read more

Well stocked store with larger than usual food and snack items. Helpful staff and open 24 hrs. Located near several hotels with standard CVS prices not the large markups typical at the hotel sundry shops. No more than a five minute walk from at least five hotels. read more

HORRIBLE experience. I would give them 0 stars if I could. 4 times in a row they tell me my prescription is ready days in advance and it is not. Then they make me come back the next day, and it is still NOT ready. They mess up so often that I can't take my medicine when needed. They do absolutely nothing to help. Worst customer service I've ever experienced, especially when giving out crucial medicine. Do not come here if you want to take medicine. The people are as stupid as it gets. Also not one to normally bothering to review a chain drug store, but I'll second the 'funny smell' comment (I had to check my shoes, I thought I stepped in something...but it was half the store, stinking like poo). Not only did they not have two of the three items I went there for, the self- check machine got hung up and there was no one paying any attention at all. So glad this is not my local cvs!! read more

*Welcome to the WORST CVS in the world* [With the exception of the pharmacy employees - who are always super nice and helpful!] This store constantly has BARE shelves, they can't restock in an appropriate amount of time, their PRICES are OUTRAGEOUS -even for DC, they don't MARK THEIR SALES -you have to google the weekly ad to actually see what's on sale, the stupid self check-out machines NEVER WORK -you always have to call for help -_- , it's disorganized, crowded, etc. Seriously the worst CVS in the world. Is there really a point in Yelping a CVS Pharmacy? Not really. Except for the sole excuse of adding another review to your repertoire and another FTR. But for the sake of utility, I'll comment that not all CVS drugstores are built the same. This location is much cleaner and much less crowded compared to the K St. & 15th St. location. Probably because there's less foot traffic and less tourists. Also, the self check-out machines seem to operate more often and thereby allowing quicker transactions. Sometimes, I'm so fast that I wished I get paid for checking myself out. One last word of advice: I don't understand why people keep buying 20-oz. bottles of water for $1.50 or $2.00. It's a lot cheaper to walk into a CVS Pharmacy and pick up a gallon of filtered water (assuming you don't have access to filtered water already) for $1.63. And that's tax-free. I came to write a review because the manager at this CVS was very helpful. I had a needlessly complicated issue where I wanted to buy something with my extra-care dollars but (apparently) the last time I went, the CVS employee typed my phone number in wrong, so the coupon was for the wrong card (and one I didn't know the number for)... Anyway, instead of giving me a hard time, the manager was very accommodating -- she just replaced that coupon with one that did work for my card. Especially in comparison to my experiences at the P St one, I was pretty happy. read more

I think the staff at this CVS is great! The pharmacy team was able to help me with some problems I was having with my prescriptions. They called my insurance company for me to get some answers. Although generally responsive and professional, the pharmacist on duty the evening of 11/14 proved to be indifferent to delivering quality customer service by not acknowledging or attempting to remedy a mistake made by her colleagues. Tonight I arrived to pick up two prescriptions, refills elicited by a phone call initiated by the pharmacy. When I arrived, I learned that, in fact, there was only one scrip eligible for refill. When I told the pharmacist that her colleague called me yesterday to remind me to fill two, her response was that she wasn't the pharmacist on duty yesterday. When I stated that as an employee of CVS and allegedly a professional, she might want to take an interest in disinformation shared by her colleagues. Her advice was that in the future, when responding to a CVS-initiated phone call, I should make sure I speak to the pharmacist on duty rather than any other pharmacy employee who might answer the phone. Now that's customer service. Tell the customer how to avoid incompetent service by urging him to interrogate the employee who answers the phone, and receive assurances that he is a pharmacist, and then proceed to ask questions about administrative details related to your medication. CVS wasted 15 minutes of phone time yesterday, and created a hassle for me to resolve at the pharmacy this evening. Yep, complete service failure. #CVSPharmacistShouldWork@DMV read more

I have now been receiving automated and non automated messages regarding another customer's pharmacy prescriptions for a while and tried to call the pharmacy to let them know and see what I could do to change it. The lady I spoke with on the phone said that since it was the night shift she couldn't help me and I was sol. I decided to call the main number on the CVS website and took care of the matter within minutes. Why she couldn't help me with this information or take my information for the shift that was capable of helping me I won't understand. read more

The only reason I go to this CVS is that its the closest drugstore to my apartment. The stuff is overpriced, but my biggest concern is the incompetence of the pharmacy department. There are a few good, very nice people that work there, but the rest are downright stupid. Apparently they don't know how to count pills even when the manufacturer has written the amount on the outside of the pre-made bottles! Thanks CVS for saving me money by giving me extra!
