My first impression of this store is that the front entry area seemed somewhat unkempt, especially considering this is a pharmacy. Then I went back to the pharmacy to ask for help from the pharmacists regarding several post-op wound care items that I needed to buy, and was unsure about which item to choose. Basically, I just needed some hand holding while figuring out what to buy. Although there were 3 people working in the pharmacy at that time, and there was no one waiting in line, no one had time to come out of the pharmacy to help me. They did tell me what isle I could look in, and I eventually found the items I needed by myself. But it just seemed strange that they couldn't come out to help a customer, even when there was no one else in the store. On the good side, this is a convenient location to downtown San Diego, near the Southwest corner of Balboa Park. Free customer parking in their lot. read more

Worst CVS I have ever been to in my entire life holy shit. My girlfriend submitted a card to be printed (ONE piece of paper). They said it was ready and she waited here for over an hour. They "couldn't find it" and "couldn't print it". Eventually she just had to leave. The next day she sent me back to get it and I was there for like 45 minutes because they "couldn't find it" again. I have literally never met more incompetent people in my life. They said it "somehow got deleted" and they have to pull it from the archives but they don't know how long it will take. I talked to the manager and he just said "it's just our system" and walked away. Most dismissive manager, can't think of anyone more unfit. I literally cannot believe how much time I've waited in this fucking CVS. If I could give them negative stars I would. I have no words..... I'm so mad. read more

I would rate the staff 10/10. They are polite and efficient. A bit understaffed, it is sad to see the conditions they work under. They have to deal with the homeless and drug addicts who come in regularly and try to steal. First of all, the store stinks!The carpet is so filthy I don't even dare to bring my dog to walk on it. The shelves are often bare and everything is locked away. You can often see people walk out with stolen products and the staff members are helpless in these circumstances. CVS used to offer a pleasant shopping experience but this store is filthy, understaffed, bare, stinky, and scary even. CVS, clean up your store, take care of your employees and your customers. What has happened to this place? it took me dozens and dozens of attempts to schedule appointments for flu and RSV shots for my husband and I through the website. I gave up when I had 4 appointments and couldn't delete three because that deleted all of them. We arrived in time for the earliest appointment. Was told to get in the pick up line. Waited 3/4 of an hour before an employee said to get on another line. When we finally got our vaccines it went fine. No complaints there. But when we got home I asked my husband if he had gotten an information sheet to put with all the other vaccine information from previous years. He said no, didn't you get it? No I hadn't. We have no proof of those vaccines, unless I want to try to get CVS to give us that now. Given the customer care we have gotten there since we had to switch due to the closure of Rite-Aid, I wasn't going to waste my time. This is just one example of how bad they are. Absolutely disgusting to wait at this cvs pharmacy! I just left after having someone cough behind me. They take their "break" from 1:30-2:08. The gates were still closed after 2pm. Theres 6 people including me waiting in line! I have my car at a meter because the parking lot is full of other people waiting for them to open up, and on top of that you have sick homeless people hanging out around there too! Don't go here, they don't even have a drive thru so idk why they have to be so slow! Not to mention they don't have security there either! It compares to the nasty parts of downtown LA too! I feel like I need a Tetanus shot every time I step foot into this store. The neighborhood is full of homeless drug addict crackheads. This used to be a nice part of Banker's Hill as I lived near here years ago. Now it looks like parts of Downtown LA yet it costs twice as much. I've generally found the pharmacy staff to be kind and helpful and I feel bad that they have to work in this disgusting neighborhood. They are the reason I continued to go to this store. But now I am done. I tried twice over the long weekend to pick up a prescription I have taken for decades. First time, I rolled in on a Sunday at 10:30am. Not open because they don't open until 11am. Since when? This isn't Alabama. There's no reason for such a late opening time. Strike one, no prescription. I then get texts throughout the day that I need to come get my prescription. No kidding!? So I come back on Monday and now they are closed because it is Memorial Day. Since when do retail establishments close for Memorial Day? Also, no clue from all the texts I received that they would be closed! So I try to schedule delivery for the next day since the text says "Get your prescription delivered!" I log in and the portal says I have to come pick it up in person because the pharmacist has a question. Really? About a non-controlled substance I've taken for 20 + years? To sum it up: 1) Unsafe disgusting neighborhood 2) Poor hours 3) Misleading communication Time to take my business elsewhere. read more

Pharmacy is never open on time, the past three times I've been here prior to opening, I've had to wait well past their opening time (9am), which isn't that early to begin with. Recommend going elsewhere if you are on a tight schedule. read more

This location took over a smaller office complex that use to be here and has been here for a few years now. Located in downtown towards Hillcrest, you can get to the parking lot from with 5th or 4th Avenue. It seems like I come here when I have forgotten or needed something quick and am on my way downtown. I call them and sure enough I am able to get a live person who provides the answer I am looking for... "yes we do!" Sweeet be there in a minute or two!!! Staff has always been friendly and helpful and this location has always been well stocked while small, but perfect for those little needs here and there... or foe those who shop her regularly. The have implemented a new camera/security system on the exit/entrance that states you are being recorded. I would guess it is to reduce theft and lottering around CVS. It was weird and a shock but I understand why it would be needed. read more

The store is scheduled to open at 7am, it's now 8am. Still not open. The initial note on the door said "System Down Est 20 minutes" and a guy comes out and says the system is up but we have no cashier now. Sounds like the problem is staffing and not the computers. I waited about 40 minutes for the store to open, but only because it was a 10-15 minute walk to get there. I ended up using Walmart.com and they can deliver it by 10am. read more

Tonight I was on the hunt of lactose free ice cream which I didn't know my fav brand Lactaid would be producing them for a while. After checking the website looks like all the CVS might had some stocks, I came to the closest one before hitting other locations, unfortunately they didn't have any, they had the Lactaid milk but not ice cream, I called about 6 more CVS, most of them told me they used to carry the ice cream but they had stopped for no specific reasons. I'm so happy this CVS got put into this location. Living in Cortez Hill, I previously had to walk all the way to Gaslamp for my closest pharmacy. This location is a short walk up from Cortez Hill, and has a small parking lot where I've never had an issue finding a spot, if I'm stopping in on my way out in my car. This location always has whatever I need (last minute birthday card, bandaids etc), and also I never need to wait too long at the pharmacy, and they're always friendly. Yesterday I got my COVID booster there, checked in through the text they sent me, then checked in at the counter and got my shot shortly after. Whole thing probably took 15 minutes. I often get 30% off CVS coupons mailed to my house, I usually just stick those into my wallet and often end up using them and saving a ton of $$s. They also accept pre-paid UPS packages (so you don't have to go all the way to a UPS store!). read more

My physician called in my prescription on the 23rd. I went to pick it up on the 26th. It wasn't filled. I was told "you have to call us and let us know you want it filled in order for us to fill it." Me "I've never been told that before, nor does it make sense. I have a medical condition my doctor is treating me for and he ordered the prescription. I just pick it up and take it. This makes no sense." Them "well it's a new policy. Come back in an hour." I return 1 hour and 10 minutes later. Them "I'm working on it now." 15 minutes later I'm finally able to get my prescription. Never again. That's a joke of a pharmacy!!!!!! With incompetent employees!! So bad!!! Strangely, in downtown San Diego there are CVS Pharmacy's about every four blocks. Seriously, there are six within a few blocks of where I work. You'd think they would all be very similar. But, nope, they are distinctive. I prefer the CVS at 5th and C near the trolley station. Although there are usually a few people waiting in-line to check-out, the line moves quickly and the staff is both friendly and courteously professional (or professionally courteous). They're a bit more expensive then if I shopped at a Big Box store out from downtown, but the convenience makes up for it. Pro-Tip: Go to a live cashier. They're nice (and the automatic check-out machines were built and programmed in the 1980's, and insist that you do things their way, or they just flat refuse to cooperate). read more

I used to go the CVS Horton Plaza pharmacy for ten years. This new CVS is right across the street. I hated to change because everyone knew my name and my meds were ALWAYS ready when I picked up. I hate having to be practical. Now this CVS, yeah I got a hello, but I didn't get the "How can I help you" greeting. I got there at 9am just when the pharmacy opened. The pharmacist was on the phone and I waited no big deal. I've learned to really be patient. She ends her call and I hand over my scripts. Then I ask why haven't I been getting my pharmacy bucks. Fill 10 prescriptions and you get $5. She said call 1-800-shopCVS. No small chat just asked me if I was dropping off or waiting. By the time I said waiting she was walking away saying we'll call you when we finish. So I grab my magazines to sit and read. The light are really low. I wanted to ask why some lights were off but couldn't find anyone to ask. I hope that with a little bit of time and familiarity seeing me there all the time will bring a happy friendly customer service. The layout didn't have a good flow. Hopefully they will get the feel of the store and make some changes I'll probably do another review again when I'm in there. read more

This is the best CVS that I've ever visited. The store is spacious, neat & clean and is rarely crowded. The pharmacy and front end staff are courteous, helpful & friendly. We've been helped by Abraham (spelling?) a couple of times & he has always gone out of his way to provide great service. There's plenty of parking available in the lot behind the store. I had an appointment for my second vaccine and when I walked in, she told me they couldn't "do walkins" cutting me off while I was explaining I was there for an appointment. Went into cvs today to check on an issue with a prescription and Johnny the pharmacist was working. I was so glad to see this because he has been so helpful in the past! He was able to get my son's medicine and get it approved quickly! I have had so many issues in the past with my son's medication and getting the TARS approved but Johnny always gets everything done even after other pharmacists say they can't! I have seen him at multiple locations but he defiantly needs to be given a pharmacy management position because he works with the customers and the insurance better than any pharmacist I have ever seen! He understands the importance of a patients needs. Good job hiring him, CVS. You need more people on staff like him! read more

Every time I come in here I always get greeted and every staff member is so nice and attentive. I'm so happy we got a cvs so close to home! They have a scratcher machine, eggs there for people close by that don't want to go all the way to the other stores fast and easy pharmacy and a lot of great deals. This is my location of choice because we can walk to a neighborhood business. I recently went there and was disappointed to be waited on by an employee without a mask over her nose and not behind the plexiglass. Also, while the store has a notice for all customers to wear a mask, and they welcome every customer entering, they did not call out the customer entering without a mask. Masks are the requirement, and I want to support businesses that will support this regulation. Do the right thing. read more

I believe an Amazon package I was expecting, that ended up getting re-routed to this location by UPS, was stolen. I went in to pick it up on 12/17/21 and was treated rudely by a female employee working the cash register who was not wearing a uniform or a name tag. She insisted it wasn't there despite tracking information from UPS I had showing it was delivered there on 12/15/21 and that it would be kept there until 12/22/21. While she was looking for it, another employee, Caleb, started looking as well and said he could not find it. I repeated to Caleb that the tracking information showed it was still at this location, to which the female employee rudely interjected with, 'hey, you, it's not here!" Caleb made up some story that "our policy" is that it's kept at their location for only 3 days (it had only been 2 days since the package was dropped off at this location per tracking information from UPS) and after that it would be sent back to UPS and that it was in UPS' hands despite the fact he could not provide proof of this. There is nothing on UPS' end showing this to be true and Caleb refused to provide the policy to which he was referring in writing. I've filed a claim with UPS to retrieve the money owed on the package and have filed a complaint with CVS corporate as well. read more

I have gone to many pharmacies and this one is exceptional. The pharmacist and pharmacy techs are kind and knowledgeable. They even caught a medication administration issue that my doctor hadn't. I am truly impressed each time I go in with their eagerness to help. One tech, whose name unfortunately escapes me, saved me over $60 on a medication by changing it to the capsule form. And Crystal, the pharmacy manager, is so sweet and patient. Truly amazing customer service and competency. I'll never go anywhere else! read more
