I left this place sobbing and feeling absolutely terrible about myself when I did absolutely nothing wrong. Jesus and James (the manager) are genuinely the rudest people I have ever met and I hope they face serious consequences after I get in contact with corporate. This was the worst, most childish, power-tripping and dismissive behavior I have ever encountered at *any* establishment, let alone by a manager and his team member, in my 34 years of life. I came to the store to stock up on some makeup I needed and saw a bunch of stuff I haven't been able to find at other stores so I knew I was going to be spending $150 minimum. Everything is locked up in cases and for whatever reason Jesus didn't ask to hold any of the makeup items I picked out so I put them in my basket which somehow lead to me being treated like absolute shit. I have severe ADHD and slight autism and have a very specific way of shopping. I tend to grab a lot of items and then go through my cart as I continue shopping and put things back here and there as I go (I put 90% of things back where they belong). I just can be really impulsive and have spent a lot of unnecessary money in the past but through therapy have learned ways to be less impulsive when it comes to shopping. Anyways, I stopped in one aisle and put two things back on the shelf from my basket. After that, I wandered over to the seasonal aisle at the Halloween items. I had both my reusable tote that had some items in it from the store I was at just prior to coming to CVS and the basket both on the ground and I was not touching them. I never even crouched down. I did nothing suspicious. However, James did a call over the loudspeaker for a security check. He then kept hovering around my area to see what I was doing. Again, I was nowhere near my basket and bag. They stayed on the ground while I wandered other aisles (because I'm genuinely just naive about the idea of people stealing from other people and I have severe inattention issues). A few minutes later, he then called ANOTHER security check over the intercom. He then came down my aisle, and I asked him if it was safe to leave my bag in the basket together on the ground and then he said he would just take the basket upfront. I explained that I have ADHD and a very specific way of shopping (grab lots of items impulsively and then rationally assess what I actually want/need; I generally spend an hour or more at any store I go to) and he said he didn't want to have to deal with putting things back (even though I said I would do it) and I explained how inconvenient this all was becoming and how uncomfortable I felt. I asked if I could just have them hold my personal bag behind the counter while I kept the basket and he said they didn't do that. I decided that I was just done shopping around because I could tell that James was just going to continue to act like I had attempted to or was planning on shoplifting (simply because I had a lot of makeup that Jesus allowed me to put in my basket) and therefore treat me with absolutely no respect. I said that I needed to check prices on a few items so I asked if I could please take the basket and go look and he said that he would just check them at the register so after he checked prices on a few things, his demeanor and tone of voice made me feel like I was such a burden so I told him that and he said nothing back. I then told him that I just was going to leave because he was treating me like a criminal and he just said "okay". I asked if he was the manager and he said yes so I said I wanted his district managers number and he said he didn't have it. I then asked for at least his email address and he said he didn't know it. He then literally tossed a CVS card at me (the one that you keep on your keychain to scan your ExtraCare card number) and said "here's his number" (I'm assuming there's probably a corporate n phone number on there but didn't even bother to look). I called him an asshole and he walked away from the register. Jesus then walked behind the counter and I asked him what James' name was and he said "I dunno" with a grin on his face. He walked away so I asked the only nice employee I encountered for James' name and he gave it to me. I walked back to find James and Jesus and said that I would have spent at least $150 and said sarcastically thanks for being so nice to me and he and Jesus just acted annoyed and James said "Yep. I have things to do. Bye". I ended up going to a different CVS a few blocks away and only spent $80 because they didn't have near as big of a selection. I told their assistant manager that I just had a really bad experience at a different CVS and the employees were mean to me and he said, "well, thank you for being a loyal customer of CVS". I explained my ADHD/autism issues to this manager and he was kind and empathetic. read more

Just a block over from the hotel we were staying at, came in for a few items we needed. Store is on the smaller side, which makes sense since it is in a downtownish area (Gaslamp District). Higher prices but convenient in a pinch if you need pharmeceuticals. read more

CONVENIENT w/ PLENTY OF TRAVEL ITEMS! If you're visiting Downtown or live close by, this CVS is very helpful! It's in a centralized location and isn't too far from the Gaslamp hub and Petco Park. My family and I stopped in to get some quick supplies before a game and we were in-and-out. It's surprisingly quiet for a CVS in the middle of a busy metropolitan area. I'm cool with it haha. There's beach wear, snacks, make-up, travel packs, and plenty of alcohol. The pharmacy wasn't busy at all and it was a Sunday morning! The security guy was kind of disenchanted with his job but he was cool, he let us come in with some coffee we had just purchased nearby. I'd highly recommend this CVS, it's pretty up to date and put together. read more

I was checking out (11/22) and keep in mind, I'm always super nice, I ask the cashier how he was, no answer, but like thats fine he probably didn't hear me. So I finish checking out and I'm putting my stuff in my tote, and then he proceeds to make rude comments towards the customer behind me about how I'm wearing headphones and I was ignoring him. Except my headphones were off, and I could hear him talking about me just fine. Anyways, I confront him and leave, but watch out for an old bald white gay dude, he is rude for absolutely no reason. read more

This CVS Pharmacy came in clutch this past weekend. My boyfriend and I planned a trip out of town and forgot to bring certain things. For me; I totally forgot to bring deodorant and toothpaste. I mean how can you forget those items?! Geez I'm such a blonde sometimes lol They had little to go items for hygiene, so I grabbed a mini deodorant and toothbrush/ toothpaste combo. And I needed some Benadryl. I found all of these necessities at this CVS. My boyfriend grabbed some shaving cream and shaving lotion. He recently shaved his face and needed something with aloe to help with his skin irritation. And this CVS had exactly what he needed. Yay! No more skin irritation. read more

Been using this pharmacy for years & absolutely love the pharmacy crew (Luke & Neal, I believe, are 2 of the main ones)! They are very caring, kind, & helpful. On multiple occasions they've gone out of their way to make sure any prescription issues with prescribers are resolved quickly. Great location! It was on the same block from my hotel. I've actually go to this CVS while in the Gaslamp Quarter for the past 5 years when I am in town for San Diego Comic Con. It's very convenient and well stocked. Friendly and professional staff. They have an awesome selection of well-stocked items especially grocery items. I was aggressively followed by security guard, when I walked in the supervisor made an intercom announcement code 804020 or something similar and an African American Security guard started following me from isle to isle made me so uncomfortable. I asked the security to stop following me and he said "I'm just doing my job". Being an African American Male is hard because of situations like this, A white male customer tried defending him and said "He can follow you if he wants" I told him to shut up and mind his own business because he hasn't walked in the shoes of a black man. NO ITS NOT okay for someone to follow you. Makes you very uncomfortable and racially targeted. This is 2020 stop giving me 1964 vibes. I suggest y'all (as in corporate) reach out the store and have them reevaluate their discrimination policy because this location is itching for a legal situation in the near future. read more

Dr. Luke, the pharmacist (yes, they have a Pharm D in a very difficult line of study :) ) is fantastic, brilliant, personable, and caring. He returned my call personally and helped solve my problem. His pharmacy staff is excellent, also. They are fast and reliable, caring and friendly. The store is well displayed, and the cashiers and staff are helpful. The hours listed here on yelp and online at CVS.com are misleading and 100% inaccurate. Not ideal when you rely on businesses to be truthful and up-to-date with the information they provide to customers. I have been unable to pick up vital medications due to the whack hours and the expectation that they would be open when they are not. I don't know how this is not a bigger issue, as this is endangering my livelihood and ability to take my medications as necessary - and I am sure I am not the only one. Shame on you CVS - your laziness in not updating your yelp and website to reflect your pathetic operating hours is harming people in need. Edit (changed from 2 stars to 1 star): they also run out of essential, common medications. This has caused so many issues and delays. If you ever want to be profiled for just walking into a store I recommend going to this cvs. Not only did the security guard follow me to get my vitamin water and looking for face masks for my appointment I'm heading to but she also had the manager follow me around within a couple of feet. Mind you there are barking dogs attacking one another in the store and multiple other people in the store. When I asked why they were following me around the store and to stop I was told that's there job so obviously profiling is there best gig going and not trusting there customers. As a CVS, it is a good location. I had to go here a few times during our trip to pick up water, snacks, and bandages to deal with my poison ivy outbreak. They had a lot of options for bandaging - various gauze sizes, wound kits, and other types of individual patches. There is a good number of self-checkouts and regular registers. There is a dog bowl with water at the front. San Diego is so dog friendly! Good snacks but could use more sparking water choices. read more

This was a great little locale we used several times. Our room at the Indigo was a bit on the chilly side and I neglected to pack the hating pad? CVS. I brought every extra accessory I would need (and a few I didn't) but somehow managed not to bring bobby pins? CVS. Water once we got a fridge and snackies just in case? CVS. It was so easy to get to from Hotel Indigo (and Salomar if not a bit more of a hike) that this location - even though it had mostly self checkout - was fairly valuable to us during our trip! The only thing needed for me was a nail set. I walked through this CVS store and To my surprise the nail files and clippers were lock. I had to ask for help. When the CVS person came to unlocked the nail packaged set, she stated I could pick it up in the front. I was shocked that she assumed, I'm some criminal that would not pay for the set when I clearly had other items in my carrier to purchase. CVS are very convenient especially if you are in Gaslamp and lets say want to have a soda and some snacks at 1 am after attending some event. Or headache pills, or a new lipstick just because. But stay away of this one if you are not into homeless people outside at the door (full of them), employees who look tired of dealing with them, and shoppers that look like homeless too in need of the same goodies as you and I. It is just too uncomfortable and you won't feel safe if you are a woman, alone and not pitbull in hand. Sorry to say, but the homeless issue in Downtown is rampant and this CVS is one of their favorite spots to hang out. I don't have the solution and I guess the only one is to avoid going if you don't want to face this reality unless you really need to shop there. I went to the CVS on Market Street in San Diego. Unfortunately the Pharmacy was closed so I wasn't able to get the information that I needed. So I ended up purchasing Claritin. The automated checkout machine didn't provide a receipt. So I contacted the cashier name Alice. I explained what happened. She said not to worry and contacted the Mgr. Bill. He went back into his office and got a printout. While he was gone. I asked Alice if I could purchase Flonase instead? She said no problem. So Alice did the swap for me. She even opened up the Flonase package for me. Alice & Bill were very helpful. They're great employees and should be commended...Thank you both... read more

Just went in here and was (for the first time) impressed by the service. Jonathan asked us whar we needed and was happy.

I walked in. Everyone was friendly. Immediately the security guard asked how he could help. I asked for the Ladies Room and he said it was closed to the public, so I proceed to shop. I picked my items and approached a register. A young lady said she'd help me but then another associate walked by and said he'd help me and brought me to the self check out. He scanned my items and I checked out. The security guard came back around and said I could use the Ladies Room. I followed him to the back and it was a weird vibe. He had to unlock a back door to get to the restroom down a dark corridor. On my way out, the young lady warned me about "The old guy with the belt". She mumbled the words "sexual harassment". Low key followed me around the store for a bit which was new for them. Didn't bother me much though. I was more focused on finding something good to snack on for my night shift. I took my time and I'd suggest you do the same, don't even mind them. I've noticed most of the local businesses are acting this way now anyway, so I guess this is just a part of the "new normal'. The pharmacy dept. is always full of nice, competent people. The store area also. Everything is easy to find...and they had a super sale on toilet paper for which I'm returning soon to buy. The manager, a man whose name I forget now is patient, courteous, genuinely seems to care. The security guard protects the store from crazy people which is an added bonus. I forgot my driver's license and they took it in their possession and secured it for me, they even went the extra mile and contacted the pharmacy for which I get regular meds, to find what my current phone number was to call me.
