Wow, I really can't say enough about the people working at this establishment. Naseem and John are so kind and funny. They remember everything I tell them and if I ask for a product for myself or a vegetable for my bunny it's literally in the store within days. They care about their customers and providing them with a one stop shop full of love. Not to mention their parents...very sweet people and their mom made homemade lasagna that was restaurant worthy. Don't waste your time here. I have had positive experiences here previously but today I saw a woman accused of stealing. She had an ice cream that she had obviously walked into the store with and when she left, the cashier ran after her shouting "you didn't pay for that". Not only is this embarrassing for the falsely accused, but the staff/owner should be embarrassed for the way they approached the situation. Once the cashier realized he was wrong, not only did he not apologize for accusing her of stealing, but he then had the audacity to say that the woman didn't "show him" the item when she walked in. Didn't know you have to report yourself to a cashier when waking into a store.. seems like something they should actively be paying attention to themselves. read more

They steal from customers and lie to your face. I checked my credit card transactions and noticed the amount charged was too much (it should have been between $17 - $18... they charged me over $40). So, I went back 30 minutes later to get a copy of my receipt. The cashier was showing me other people's receipts from the same timeframe and wouldn't give me mine... he kept saying he couldn't find it  (yea, made no sense to me either).  Anywho; save yourself the trouble and head a half block over to First & Ivy. read more

I love this store. I've shopped here off and on since 1997. The proprietors are friendly and professional. They have a bit of everything you might need, and will usually try to order a particular item for you if you're a regular. The store is clean and well organized, and there's always someone available to help you find what you're looking for. It's also nice to walk into a store where people smile and say "hi." I have been going to this Market for 20 years! Willie Talia, Sam and family are the most hard working people I know. They are honest, friendly, generous and caring. They put so much energy into supplying customers with everything they need including new items for all cultures and diets. They will even order something for you if they don't have it. They provide fresh produce, meats, prepared meals, a complete selection of alcohol, energy drinks and the coldest craft beers in town! Their store is always well organized, food updated constantly and very clean. It's unfortunate when they catch so many people stealing when they are such generous people who give credit to the needy and discounts that add up and take away from their profits when everything is so inflated and expensive these days. Absolutely hate the people that own this place. They are rude and very disrespectful to customers and to the police. My car was parked outside of the store on a public street and was hit by a hit and run driver. I called the police the police showed up and started their stuff. The person behind the counter came out of the store and started yelling at me and the police because we were in front of their store. Mine you we were not in their small parking area we were on a public street which no one owns or can take ownership of. His words were to me and the police "get the fuck out of in front of his store." Public street public sidewalk not owned by anyone that has a business on said street or sidewalk. I think they don't want the police around their business because they might not be completely legit in their store. As a veteran, that service his country. I should not have to be disrespected by someone who never put his life on the line for anything or anyone. read more

If you want quick fresh produce/meats or already prepared meals look no further. Awesome local craft beer selection. Pro-Biotics and almond milk, no question. Well organized alcohol. Fresh ice cream. But the thing thing I like most about this Market is the ownership and employees. Willy, Sam, and Dillon (all family) always have smiles on their faces and are willing to help or chit chat. They remember names and care about their customers. Course they have high and low class booze, and are open later on Friday and Saturday. What can you say, it is a Liquor Store but wait, a market too. They even have fresh produce and meat at this little market. You really could go in here and make a whole meal from their items. A pretty good meal at that. Our normal purchase at this market is beer, I won't lie but sometimes I need some milk or eggs. Bi-Rite saves the day. Seeing that they are on my same block, sure beats having to drive 10 minutes to Albertson's or Ralphs. It is a little on the pricier side but hey, you are paying for the convenience. They also rent DVDs, have a pretty good wine selection and sell misc items such as sports hats and sunglasses. For being in the neighborhood it is pretty darn convenient! Thanks Bi-Rite. I moved to Bankers Hill a little while ago but didn't check this place out because I thought it was just a liquor store. I know it says "market" in the name, but that often means nothing. They really are a market, though! Bi-Rite has deli with prepared foods, fresh meat and produce, an impressive variety of pantry staples and specialty items, and household goods (the basics with unexpected things thrown in, like notebook paper). And they'll special order things for you if you ask. I do most of my shopping elsewhere, but I come here several times a week for the DELICIOUS freshly baked bread (ask for it, it's hidden with the regular stuff) and ingredients for impromptu meals. And maybe Ben & Jerry's. Just maybe. I used to make trips to Ralph's for things Whole Foods and the like don't carry, but I just come here instead because I enjoy talking with the guys who work here and I'd rather give them my money than anyone else. I really like their deli section they also sell Kombucha tea which is really awesome I usually buy their freshly made salads, yesterday I bought the chicken caesar salad and then I bought their chicken kabob with rice, sliced tomatoes and a little bit of onion and that's about my favorite thing to buy at the shop. Great to have a market like this local when you don't feel like driving anywhere, especially if you want some beers... but BEWARE .... over 7 times I have returned "OLD FOOD!" Make sure you look at the dates before you buy. I returned some hot dogs once that were over a month passed the expiration date. When I went back to exchange them, all other items were passed the expiration dates as well. Yuck!!!! The store clerk was standing there next to me and when I found a date that EXPIRED tomorrow (the next day), he put it back and said, "Looks good to me." That is no way to run a business. The vendors should change that out with no questions asked. I ask this question...why are they not changed out...I give this answer.....there are no vendors for some of their merchandise because they are cutting corners. Walking distance from my old office, this place was a good option for breakfast, lunch or even dinner. They have everything you need but be prepared to pay a convenience fee for their location. There is parking around the building which helps and the views are awesome. You can literally watch the planes come in as you enjoy your drink, or snack. I miss this place. This place is great. If you're looking for a good craft beer selection, this is the place to check out! The service here is awesome and the prices are very reasonable. They have an amazing wine selection as well. You won't be disappointed if you're looking for a great bottle of savory wine! Along with the amazing beer and wine selections, the food here is on point! The fresh deli makes it hard for me to walk past each time I walk in. From the few items I've tried here, I would HIGHLY recommend pretty much all the produce and meat they have available. My mother always sends me to Bi-Rite to grab a couple pounds of meat for a weekend BBQ (even if that means driving from El Cajon to Downtown). I don't mind. This is my one stop shop when it comes to spirits anytime I'm near the downtown area. They have a fine selection of premium wine, liquor and craft beer. After being recommended to Bi-Rite by my friend who lives in the area, I could see why they always frequent this place. The owner and staff are super friendly, and seem like they genuinely care about their customers. Beer selection is amazing, wide variety of liquor, and the grocery section isn't too shabby for a smaller store. Some items are on the pricey side, but I'd rather pay the convenience fee then take the trip to downtown, search for a spot, etc... Always enjoy stopping by here to get my drinks, grab a few last minute groceries I might've forgotten, or grab a hummus and Mediterranean salad from the deli for a quick bite. Just moved to the area and was pleasantly surprised to discover the deli at Bi-Rite Market. While going through the arduous task of unpacking and organizing all our stuff I wandered down to the local grocer to find something to eat. Walking into the Bi-Right I was impressed by the selection of food and drinks. There was a man ordering a sandwich at the deli, so I wandered over to take a peak. After seeing the the deliverables, I was sold! Ordered a turkey, bacon and avocado on wheat with everything and a Greek salad to go. It was fresh, tasted great and affordable. On a return trip, we got the tabouli which was delicious! They have a fairly robust produce section and great Greek food. I'm definitely a repeat customer. read more
