Honestly a decently sized Ralph's for being in a major downtown area like San Diego. I was pretty surprised at the size and how well it seems to be managed given his clean and well-organized it was when I visited. Prices did seem a bit inflated but you're in a Ralph's downtown in San Diego so it was expected. Bathrooms require a code with a purchase from the store which was also to be expected. Employees there are definitely rude and sarcastic which brought down the experience of going there. They do have a patio but there are a good amount of homeless people around there so not sure if eating your lunch there is the best idea. read more

We were walking back to our car after an event when we passed by this Ralph's on G Street. We were still several blocks from the car, and I needed a restroom. I entered the store and found my way to the back were the bathrooms are only to find that I needed a code to unlock the door. I suppose that is a necessary evil given the homeless problem in and around the store. For folks like me who just need to pee, it was a real hassle. I scouted around the store for a couple of minutes looking for an employee who might provide me with the code. After not having any luck, I said "F*ck it" and left. I just held it until we arrived at the building where the car was parked and used the facilities there. The store, did however, look like a pretty good Ralph's if you live or were staying nearby. read more

Sushi is one of my favorite healthy snacks to enjoy eating whenever I can eat them. The prices are $14.00 for each container. This is my first time shopping at this Ralph's Grocery Store location. Ralph's Market has a huge selection of Sushi products to choose from plus their products are prepared in the store and very freshly made. I also bought a 4 pack of Snack Pack Pudding the flavor is Chocolate and Vanilla . This is a lightly sweetened pudding that is delicious. The price was $1.49 . My total bill was $29.50. This Ralph's Market is very clean and their displays are neatly organized in every aisle. Also their cashiers are very friendly and helpful to me. Their prices are very reasonable. read more

I stay in the area when I come into town for work, and have popped in here a few times. City grocery stores are not the same as what you expect in the burbs, and so you can not expect to have quite the same selection. That being said, I think this store has a great offering of convenience items. Premade meals, sandwiches, etc. I have always been able to find help when I need it, and I can use my Kroger card here to get my fuel points. People who complain about homeless people outside obviously don't go out much, because this isn't a Ralphs issue. I have never had anyone bother me and I am always on foot. There is also security patrolling around and people should mind their business. read more

Updating my review from 5 stars to 3. Now that we've been going fairly regularly, I want to update my review. I still stand by all of my comments in my first review but I'm terribly disappointed in their frozen food section. We purchase one brand of ice cream and it consistently appears as though it's thawed a bit during the stocking process. I've done quite a bit of grocery shopping in my time, and in 5 different states (including Florida and Arizona), and have never experienced anything like this when purchasing ice cream. Unfortunately, as someone that's allergic to egg and prefers regular ice cream (as opposed to sorbet or vegan), I don't have a lot of ice cream brand options. Otherwise, everything from my original review stands. Here it is (only because I don't know if these things disappear when I update my review): Clean, friendly staff, easily accessible I spent the summer in San Diego and just recently moved here. This is my local grocery store, and I'm very fortunate that it is. While I walk, it's got underground parking and I've never heard anyone complain that they couldn't find a spot. There are fresh ready-to-eat items, and their cheese selection is FANTASTIC. I wasn't expecting so many options in a grocery store in the heart of downtown like this. They've got Kroger brands, which is nice because I'm familiar with Kroger brands from shopping in Arizona. Moving and being able to have a brand that I'm familiar with, and like, was a pleasant surprise. I as also surprised that they have specials - like $5/lb turkey Tuesday and $5 rotisserie chicken on Thursdays (I think it's Thursdays, now I'm second guessing myself). read more

This store has endcap on end caps. if you are claustrophobic or afraid of tight spaces, please do not come to this grocery store. They got so much stuff in the aisles and so much stuff everywhere. PHARMACY Pharmacist, Ike, ia a doctor wanna be. Dictating to me what to "tell" my doctor. He has called my home three times in three months to threaten me with refusing to fill my future prescriptions, questioning my doctors ( multiple doctors) abilities and practices. This guy is so out of line, a rude sourpuss I wonder how he still has a job. Ralphs needs to reevaluate this department. Prescription drug necessities are already a sensitive subject for some people, and a rude, intrusive, insensitive and opinionated pharmacist is the last thing we need. It is a privacy violation. Get rid of this fool before he causes you a lawsuit. His behaviors are putting him close. read more

AFFORDABLE DINNER SPOT! I'm a boy on a budget and especially during con season, markets like Ralph's are lifesavers. I stopped by looking for a fresh, quick, and easy dinner and accomplished my mission. I got a large individual chicken dinner that came with three large pieces of fried chicken and two sizable side helpings of mac & cheese and mashed potatoes! The meal also comes with a dinner roll, all for under $9. That's a deal in San Diego guys! I'm officially hooked on Ralph's chicken it definitely beats other grocery stores! Oh and I got a 2 for $4 dollar deal on bottled soda, again this is a rarity in SD haha. There's bins lined across the front of the store as you first enter and you'll find loads of drink options. Right next to the bins is a section for other refrigerated drinks! This store ensured I was not dehydrated. Service was a little iffy, one of the ladies at the chicken counter was kind of harsh with the customers. She changed her tune with me when I fought fire with water (aka I used patience and kindness). However, the staff clearly don't know how to work under pressure in a metropolitan area. There's also a couple of tweakers who come in here once in a while and sour the mood of the store, so be alert! Overall, the store is really calm for a busy spot. I plan to come back. There's outdoor seating, a Starbucks inside, and it's very well-stocked. I felt right at home and as a city boy this is definitely my jam. TIP: On Thursdays large chickens are only $5! read more

Worst of the worst!! due to handicap issues, I order my groceries online. I ordered $260 worth of food. They sent it via Doordash. They ordered it to DOORDASH, NOT ME! The woman who was to deliver first said she could not find the building. I told her is was the big three story building on the corner of Govenor and Gullstrand. Then she sends me a message to "bare with me lots to deliver, I'll need to make several trips." I felt bad, so I increased her tip while waiting. While waiting and waiting, I texted her and no answer. About 30 minutes later, I senT my husband down on his scooter and low an behold, the rotten excuse for a human being put all my groceries in the big parking lot of our apartment house. Frozen foods, milk, dairy, etc. all sitting out in the sun. Who does things like that. To make matters worse, she tore open a flat of water and took one leaving the rest to spill out. I had to use my portable oxygen machine to bring each item up the elevator to our apartment several times. I called and talked with "Angelo" a supervisor who apologized and said let me make it up to you. I'll give you an $80 credit for the food left in the sun plus another $30. I told him I wanted this reported to DOORDASH. He promised. I had to order groceries a few weeks later and guess what, A $30 credit was given. Big surprise. No consequences. He told me no problem she won't deliver to me again. Oh wow, what a punishment. Is this how it goes today? Is this how Ralphs treat its handicap customers? DOORDASH no consequences? Really? Just leaves the groceries in the parking lot and steals a bottle of water? disgusted. I cried just at the insult and cruelty of it all. I can only hope someone pays them all back. This place is a real disaster on its best days. Yet I go a couple times a month. Sometimes you just need a few things. Check expiration dates. Don't get meat it's always been frozen and then wet and gross. Like watery bacon. Not sure how they do that but save your money. Service is also hit or miss. The manager Michelle was very friendly and helped me set it up on my phone as well as helped me with getting it to work on the cashier for me. The placed looked cleaned and organized. I was in the store this evening and asked a lady in the self check out line where something was. She said if I don't see it we don't have it. I asked if I could get someone to actually help me and she told me no. Ok so I understand places get busy and sometimes you're short staffed as I am a General Manager of a retail store, but this was ridiculous. The rolling of the eyes the slapping of her hands on her sides was over kill. If you don't like your job then get a different one. You are in a customer service position you should act like it. With the many times that I have gone to the Ralphs Supermarket in the Downtown area of San Diego this was a trip that was to get things for the fourth of July to get things for personal needs and hygiene. Going to the store location walking in finding the store was a bit crowded with so many people having to switch in between Isles just to get in between and to the front register never to expect this from a grocery store. The walk through the store was one that you had to get around people and those that were blocking the Isles yet when you come to store that is what you expect. Having a big shopping list and short time period and have to get chicken for the barbecue and to get sauces and the candy for the after snacks for the chips and dips. When you come to Ralphs is look for the specials it will save you so much in money and to have a shopper's card it saves you money in the long run. When you come to a grocery store that Friday was not the best day and to have my camera bag stolen off my cart when I was shopping reported it to the manager and the security it seemed like the manager was more to herself than stopping to take notice. The general response of the whole day ruined by the person or persons that had taken my camera that had important disks and very important medication that was my emergency epilepsy medication. Going to the store where I had done much of my shopping and then having my camera bag stolen with things inside that told me that the safety at Ralphs Down San Diego is not very good to make sure shoppers are safe and secure. When I had went to the frozen food and turned to see the products that a person was following me and grabbed my bag. This is one thing that has lost my trust in Ralphs and the service they have for customers the groceries I bought but having your camera get stolen that is one that has ruined my whole month. I found that Ralphs was very trustful having to call the Store Supervisor for their help and yet that gave me some support for this matter yet the security for customers is one thing that has lost my trust and has turned me away. As a Yelp Elite Reviewer, the day of shopping was not the best having my camera taken and all things inside it makes me think that large grocery stores that are havens for thieves to rob shoppers. Its one thing to get great deals but to have something that has important medication and the camera that I have been using for the many places yet with no money to afford another it makes it very hard. After a quick visit to the Children's Museum my son wanted something to eat. With nothing close by it helped that there was a Ralph's a block away. Ended up buying some popcorn chicken and a water! Ralph's Fish Fry Review As a person that loves fish, I don't particularly care for my house smelling like fish. So anytime I fry fish..I don't. I have Ralph's do it, fry at someone else's home or pay for it at a restaurant. Maybe I just haven't learned the hack for fish smell prevention. Nonetheless, did you know all of the Ralphs have a 'you buy we fry' option that's free. Seasonings include mild seasoning or Cajun seasoning. It's simple. You pick your fish, take it to the back, ask them to fry it. And voila all done. All you need to do is cook your veggies at home. Most of the time the 10 minutes it takes for me to get home doesn't always make it because the fish smells so good and I snack on it. Then I get surprised that it's almost gone. And it is fried to a nice crisp. I particularly like when they use the cornmeal seasoning. The choices I've seen are dover, tilapia, swai, catfish. I also learned that shrimp could be fried. This is a win for those without kitchens, quick bite at lunch, or shortening cooking time when you arrive home. I recommend pairing fried fish with sweet pickles and spicy mustard. I had to go to Sprouts to get better service...worth the trip to leave downtown, people. I walked into this store when I was on a business trip and ran out of essentials. This store has ample of pre packaged and pre cut food options. They also offer sushi. They had all the basics, produce, cleaning supplies, pharmacy, and beverages. The staff was super helpful. Their nacho chips and guacamole are awesome. The sushi is good too. They have a wide variety of travel essentials. They carry all name brands of personal hygiene and cosmetics. It is a neatly organized, fast paced and casual grocery store. Being human having a senior moment at a self checkout. 1 avocado, and a premade sushi pack. The Sushi pack would not scan... my head was buzzing from low blood sugar. I motioned the attendant for help. What she was saying was not clicking in... as she's trying to educate me, having a condescending look. I didn't ask to be educated... I ask for help. I was quickly getting irritated as she stood there doing nothing. I said just do it... was not impressed at all. I needed to get my blood Sugar elevated. Attendants should help a person requesting help. The situation was not a classroom setting. Got through the dang process of checking out, going directly to an outdoor eating area and got sustenance elevating my blood sugar. Every time my family shops at Ralph's we have always had a great experience, except for today. My wife purchased groceries today from the Ralph's in La Jolla. I was about to enjoy a hamburger pattie, when my eyes observed a piece of hair on the meat. Since we were now near the downtown area I thought I would be able to return it to the downtown location for an exchange. So, I called the downtown location and asked to speak to the store manager to explain the situation and make sure it was OK to exchange these patties for hopefully a different package that wold not have hair in it. The Store Manager Michelle told me I couldn't return the product to her store but needed to take it back to the La Jolla Ralph's. Her explanation was that it needed to show up back in that stores inventory. This is the first time I have ever heard a company say something like that... Please Distrct Manager inform your Store Manager Michelle or inform me if I am wrong about company policy on returns and how she should treat customers who actually are the reason why she has a job to come to, thanks read more

It wasn't until Rite Aid closed and sent my prescriptions to Ralph's pharmacy that I realized how really lucky I am in life. this pharmacies staff have lovely personalities and they get the medication's right, they smile while they're doing it and I'm thinking that's why there's never a huge line because they know what they're doing and people get what they came for. I did. My only complaint would be the parking and that's not news to anybody who goes to Ralph's in Hillcrest. But the service and value at the Pharmacy at Ralph's is worth it. read more

I wanted to give a huge shout-out to the amazing deli department. I have had a hard year, and wanted to celebrate a very small Thanksgiving at home, without the days of cooking. They made a beautiful, heat for later turkey meal with all of the fixins and I didn't need to stress at all, or even cook and especially clean up. Does not get any better than this! Thank you to the hard workers here, for bringing me some traditional comforts with zero stress. I appreciate everything you all do. Deli is hard work! Trust me from experience. Myself and others I know have had horrible experiences with the incredibly rude staff working the front of the store I didn't realize this place had such a horrible reputation until I shared my most recent unpleasant experience here with a group of friends.
