I used the self checkout and was not assisted or greeted by anyone. It was very busy inside but there wasn't a long wait to check out. Carries name brand food and beverage items. This grocery store has a hometown feel but they have a great supply of items. We came in for ice cream and they had a protein ice cream brand we haven't seen before so we snagged them. Parking is free if you're a Vons customer otherwise it's $15 for 2 hours. Bathrooms are clean. They have an EV charging area in the parking lot too. read more

I always forget this Vons grocery store is here until I drive past it. It's very nice and well-stocked and serves those who live on the island well. All the essentials are here and they have a nice bakery, nice grab-and-go sandwiches and lunch items, and fresh produce. Worse customer services ever. Spoke to 3 Vons Employee & they were all rude & helpless. They couldn't even take the time to help me find what I was looking for. I see some negative reviews on here and I don't think they are being realistic. Guys, this is a market. Its a market. Not a supermarket. Easy to forget that not every market is a supermarket. There are supermarkets elsewhere, but Coronado is an island. Its just an island. Its not realistic to expect a supermarket. We don't have a ten-plex movie theater either, or a Target. Vons knows its clientele and has what you need. Is it Boney's Bayside Market? No. Why would it be? That's a different store, up the street. It sells different items. My go to grocery story when I am on the island. They have a ton of grocery options and some of the cheapest to go meals in the area. Great to go sandwiches /pot pie / wings /salads for reasonable prices. Very close to hotel Coronado and in the heart of the shopping area, their fruit selection is good too. You might think that a Vons in Coronado, one of the most expensive places to live in California, would be a cut above the rest. You might think they'd try to up their game to compete with the Boney's down the road. You'd be wrong. This Vons is disappointing even by Vons' already low standards. Case in point: there are NONE of the refrigerated cakes that all other Vons sells (including the best of those, the Italian Cream Cake), and none of the other Vons-brand standard bakery items, e.g. bread. On top of that, on a not very busy afternoon, lines were stretching far into the aisles because they choose to not staff checkout lanes the way a well-managed store might. Avoid this one. read more

Imagine walking down the dairy asile and finding a moldy explosion of crescent rolls. My worst nightmare. Mold spores flying through the air duplicating on everything they land on. Eeeewww. This is no nightmare. It was reality!!! The pic is probably better blurred...disgusting. So I pick up said object to take to a manager up front. 1. To rid the space of the flying spores 2. She then tosses it in the trash and goes about her business totally dismissing the situation. Did this just happen? No asking where it was so the area could be cleaned. Nada. I go to another checker to pay for my items and he informs me who the Assistant Manager is. Hello, Josh. Get ready for an earful. I retell the story to Josh and he is much nicer and says he will talk to Olivia about her handling of the situation. Here I felt better and was thanked for bringing it to their attention. Who knows if crabby Olivia was talked to or not. At least Josh has good skills in customer service. I normally avoid this store anyway as it's small and overpriced. But it's convenient. That's how they get you. Convenience or not, I will not be back. Who knows how many other areas of the store are neglected in their cleaning practices. I don't want to get sick. I'm out of hand sanitizer after that shopping trip. One star is the lowest option. If Josh hadn't been available it would have received a written zero stars. He is the reason for the one star. This Vons and yes I am aware space is limited...but does every non-dairy creamer have to be flavored for goodness sake! Stopped in for milk and fried chicken. Anyone whose had fresh fried chicken from the deli can not deny it is AMAZING! Unfortunately this location clearly does not take pride in their product. Chicken was extremely dry from sitting under the heater. I would hope staff members would periodically do a quality check and pull meat that has been sitting for awhile. Feeling exhausted and not wanting to make the trek back to the store I filled up on potato salad and sweet rolls (included in their Monday Meal Deal). So you may wonder why I gave 5 stars to a tourist grocery store that charges higher prices and has a limited selection when compared to other stores. Well, it's because they are who they are and they understand their clientele. The staff is spot on and they do an amazing job with little space. One of the few stores that has parking behind the building, it is also open to public parking for a reasonable price. They have. Great deli and they make sandwiches to order. Fried chicken, cold cuts, salads...all of it prepared fresh and served with a smile. This store sells more wine than all other Vons and that only serves to point that they know their demographic. I love coming here on my bike and buying what I need and getting a discount with my Vons card. Narrow aisles? YES. Limited selection? YES. Friendly service? YES. Fresh flowers, great wines, great deli? YES YES YES! Nothing but goodness here and they also have an amazing selection of fresh fruit. What's not to love?! If you want big box then go to IB. I like grocery stores and this Vons was pretty good. well stocked with tall shelves and narrow Isles, and a real abbreviated produce section. Waited about 10 minutes at the seafood counter but the clerk was apologetic and friendly, plus I wasn't really in a hurry. Overall the prices were real fair and in line with other big grocers in less touristy, and upscale neighborhoods. it's a great place to stop when visiting. read more

The Vons on Orange Avenue in Coronado is a bit smaller than the average Vons. That said, it's a pretty busy store, with locals and tourists alike. I'm an occasional shopper in this store, and have never failed to find what I'm looking for. The prices reflect the expensive real estate it's sitting on. And this Vons uses up quite a bit of real estate, since it has a very large (and popular) parking lot. Chains like Vons price their merchandise based upon location, but smart shoppers can always find sales or reduced prices on many items. I'm a fan, and will continue to buy whatever I need here. read more

We stop here most times we go to Coronado beach. We've gotten deli food often which is pretty good, prices are definitely right where you'd expect. The selection can be a little bit small as it's a smaller location. Parking in back for customers only. We haven't had much trouble finding parking. read more

I guess the lighting is a little dim (I think that was one of the complaints) but so what? Great produce, love the deli, diverse selection of adult beverages. All right, so why am I writing a review about a Von's grocery store? Who really cares? Answer: What makes this store in Coronado so interesting is that the store represents taking a step back in time while roaming the isles of this supermarket. This particular store is very unique because it looks for the most part in these days, much as it did on the day of its grand opening back in 1966. The longtime residents of Coronado want to keep their small town feel in their fair city and the Vons supermarket on Orange Avenue is a fine example of this effort. I love that the bathroom is in the basement because we simply don't see this kind of thing out here on the west coast. Yes, there is an entire warehouse operation going on down below us while we are shopping for our food & sprits. A couple of Saturdays ago, I went down below to use the facilities and while I was hanging out in the basement they had an employee party going on in the open area break room which that in and of itself was pretty cool, but when I was asked if I wanted anything to eat by an employee party goer, I thought now this "IS" small town hospitality at its best. Come here if only to experience this phenomenon for yourself. Good Times ;-) read more

Von's staff did not take any action on a woman that was wandering around the store this afternoon June29) around 3 o'clock with no mask on. She was in front of me at the checkout and I asked the lady who was serving Ms No- mask about the mask and she just kind of shook her head. I talked to one of the other Vons gentleman and I said I thought that if you didn't have a mask you couldn't come into the store and wouldn't be served - he stated that he would not serve them but that was only his perspective. I love shopping at Vons but I am more concerned about safety - Vons staff if you're not going to insist that people wear masks in your store, then let's just all shop at Smart and final where they do enforce the mask on rule. read more

Looking for muffins and most were expired, 2 and 3 days ago. Tables were very dusty and so was some of their product. I decided to go for the pastries instead but they didn't look appealing at all. As I'm still trying to see what I can get to enjoy with my coffee my son wants to pee. I ask an employee where the restroom is and he sends me to Starbucks He said that the store was built in 1950 so they don't have a customer restroom. Seems like in the 71 yrs they've been open they still haven't made enough $$ to build a restroom. read more

Every time I go to any Vons Branch, I fell like I'm in a fancy side of town or going inside makes you think that everything they sell here are very expensive and you can not buy anything at all. Most especially this branch. For me, Vons is like the fancy grocery store only rich people go to and do their daily grocery shopping! LOL! I do love going to this location because they actually have very affordable items and most especially food. Me and my brother usually go here back then and grab a large Rotisserie Chicken and some bread and soda or juice box and go to Tidelands Park or somewhere in Coronado and enjoy the sun and go people watching after buying lunch, brunch or just snack in the mid-afternoon. read more

Super clean and organized Vons. I love their deli! Freshly carved turkey breast from Vons is truly the best and beats the pre-packaged junk for amazing sandwiches. Minus one star because it's honestly really expensive. I grocery shop for work here and groceries usually come out to about $60/week for just one person. Idk what's going on here but the men employees and the ladies working at the deli are always super nice and helpful. But the woman cashiers always seem to be in a bad mood! The rude deli clerk who made me and my friend a $6 sandwich didnt seem to give a crap that she was out of several staple items like onions . How can a grocery store run out of onions? Like take your ass over to the produce section and grab a few onions. Also both me and my friend had to remove one half of the bread because it was gross, old and dry. No please! Never again! I've learned my lesson! Nooooo! I had the horrible idea of coming here for a sandwich that I could take to the beach on a recent trip to coronado. And I must have been in a sado-masochistic kind of mood because I came back here to pick up something else later that day! This has to be the worst Vons I've ever been to. Even worse than the one they tore down on Washington st. When I went to the deli I didnt know that I would be spending 20 minutes in line for an awful sandwich. They had 2 guys working there that clearly had no idea what they were doing. They were out of 3 types of bread (I kid you not), and didnt know how to make any of the sandwiches. One kept looking at the directions and asking his coworker for help. It was the puniest sandwich I have ever seen made. The whole deli area was dirty and disorganized. The soup pots were floating in their water baths and crusty from having run out hours earlier. I asked about where I can get the bottle of water that was advertised on the sign as coming with your sandwich. No one had any idea. I tried asking a cashier after but they just pointed to the deli. By that time the line had grown so it was useless going to ask. So it goes without saying that the sandwich was awful. The foccacia my sandwich was on was dry and crumbly. Couldnt taste the barely there avocado, bacon was cold and greasy. It was a bad experience that I dont want to repeat. I went there because I was told that the vons deli was a good deal and pretty tasty. Nay I say to both! I came back later that day because i thought I might as well pick up something to make for dinner here before heading home. Bad idea. The produce selection was minimal as well as dismal and the seafood looked awful. I picked up some shrimp mostly because it looked the least bad. It turns out it smelled fishy when I got home. Checkout both times was awkward and strange, as if I was uninvited and crashed their coronado-vons-sheltered-teen-im-so-cool party. Both times staff were talking amongst themselves about their plans and only told me the total. No hello, no goodbye. Weird organization, outdated, horrible staff, dirty store. I had about a 20 minute lunch break today in Coronado. Brigantine fish taco's sounded great, but logic dictated a quick sandwich at Von's deli. For some reason, they couldn't let me pay for my $5 sandwich at the deli. So I go to the "express" line. Two blue hairs in front of me. One of them with a full cart and one of them mentally lost and arguing over a coupon. She seemed to have lost the argument on the coupon, but win the battle by making everyone wait while she went to look for the discounted item. What to do? What to do? The clerk was rolling his eyes and fighting hard to keep his mouth shut. The blue hair in front of me was trying not to give me eye contact because of her full cart. If I say anything, I'll look like the bad guy. So I kind of legally shop lifted. I handed $6 to the clerk and said keep the change from the $5 sandwich and walked away before he could think about it. This Von's just did a major face lift inside and the deli looked great. All the employees were extra friendly and I feel bad I can't give them 4 or 5 stars. Revenge of the Blue Hairs demands a 3 star rating. Sorry Von's, I know it's not your fault. Location, location, location. Also, their entrance to and from the parking lot, has an alley between it. Even though there is a blue handicapped crosswalk, cars are flying by non stop. Like most grocery stores, they have people stalking you to see if you're a registered voter. It almost seems like they're doing it on purpose. But they distract you from looking for traffic like they want you to get hit.
