I get the feeling this fantastic food center is well-known in the area, so I probably don't need to write a Yelp novel on it. Still, there area a number of things that stood out to me. First, this store is impressively arranged - wherever you go you know the area you're in and what to expect to find. This goes from the food counters, fruit and veggie area, etc. Second, its organization and cleanliness is off-the-charts! It makes it easy to purchase things without reservation. All the food counters were very well-stocked - meats, cheese offerings, and cooked to-go items - it all looked great. I noticed that there always seemed to be someone among the employees either fixing shelves, stocking, or cleaning - it's no surprise the shop's appearance inside is so impressive! But today I took advantage of my opportunity to bypass frozen food for a change! I picked up some shrimp cevicha and six pieces of backed BBQ chicken. Yes! It was awesome too! The shrimp cevicha had some heat that I overcame with a sugared drink and the chicken was very moist and cooked perfectly. My standard for shops like these has always been Iowa Meat Farms. But I'm sure Big Ben's would tell us that Iowa Meat Farms has nothing on or over them! And that would be great! Because Big Ben Specialty Market is truly remarkable in its own right! They offer other supermarket staples, too, including lots of Mexican staples. They even sell Mexican versions of Cheetos and Tostitos, with add-ins like chilies, lime, and Tajin. The secret to their sauce is the "farm box." There's approximately 30 lbs. of produce for $20. Yes; you read that right! This week, there was everything from avocados to oranges and fresh spinach to lemons. It also included a few pounds of bananas and a 3-lb bag of potatoes. The numbers really would add up fast if each produce item were to be purchased separately. My husband also scored a 40-lb bag of wood charcoal for $18. I'm guessing most of their business is commercial. We were greeted right away and asked about the box specials. They were lined up and ready to go on shopping carts. We added the Silk almond milk and two dozen eggs. It was $25 exactly for everything and we were on our way. The employee was super nice and sounded like the person that helped me over the phone. To be honest we weren't expecting much in terms of quality ,but was surprised when we opened the box. Another big surprise that some organic items were thrown in as well. The deal gets better. There was a few items we had to throw away as they were damaged or looked bad. Two of the 4 peppers were bad. We also had to throw away the Asparagus, it was rotten the tips were slimy and mushy and had a bad odor. The Pineapple and eggplant were missing as well. We took a star away for the missing items and rotten food. When these are being prepared, a simple check could prevent bad items from going in. Again for the price we were paying we weren't expecting 100 percent blemish free items. After cleaning everything, we couldn't believe how many items were here. The 10lb bag of oranges was the jam! They were huge and very fresh. Also big bag of onions and potatoes. In all I would guesstimate that this would be $50 easily at Vons/Albertsons etc..... This should last us about 2 weeks. Obviously I can't comment on everything since we haven't eaten anything yet. My wife who is typically stubborn gives this place two thumbs up. We'll be back for sure.

I have lived practically down the street and around the corner from Farm Fresh. It was close enough to walk, but I preferred to drive whenever I needed to buy groceries. This place may not be the best looking market, or have all the bells and whistles, but it has always come through for me with most of the basic grocery essentials. My usual purchases were fruits, veggies, meats and chicken, salsas, and pastries. Every now and then, I'll grab hot food dish from their kitchen/deli. And, during emergency cases, I have bought milk, bread, cereals, sandwich meats. Truth be told, Walmart has taken over in that department now. The produce area is always kept stocked, organized and clean as with the other areas of the market. Although the isles are close quarters, there's room to move around should you use a shopping food cart. Staff are usually busy either stocking and organizing all areas or the store. Floor is also kept clean and free from potential safety issues. Almost forgot, fresh tortillas are made here at Farm Fresh. Overall, price is fair. Kitchen/deli should think about not raising their prices too high. Lastly, please don't compare Farm Fresh to Northgate or Manalos grocery store ...not fair.

I really don't go for much more than meat, cheese and torillas but what else would you expect from a carnivore!
