We love the commissary but the produce quality was poor. We have noticed a steady decline.

Absolutely phenomenal cake, perfectly sweet but not too sweet, incredible texture and incredibly moist but not too wet like some tres leche cakes can be. Very impressed and felt like the price $45 was fair for such a fresh, delicious and big cake. We had half the cake left over from 6 adults and one child. My Dad loved it, thanks for the amazing cake and for being so helpful helping me pick which would be best. All around great experience and I can't wait to try other ones. They have tons of different flavors and if looking for something specific, i was told it's best to order ahead either online or over the phone. Which I'll definitely be doing the snickers tres leche for my Dad next.

They have a big variety of cakes all ready to go in their cake display. I chose the chocobombon since they didn't have any all vanilla cakes and this one had some vanilla in it and my husbands favorite is vanilla. I really liked that they had candles and cake decorations as well in the store and I bought a few Birthday embellishments which were all $1 each, great price! The staff was nice but not too friendly when I was trying to find out more about the cakes and flavors, I had to read the labels since she didn't provide me any details. The cake was just okay, it was very dense and a bit dry. The marshmallow frosting was a little thick and the overall flavors were definitely different but not sure I would get this flavor again. I would like to try a few more flavors and maybe a tres leches cake to see how those are. It is located in Chula Vista in a small shopping center, limited parking available.

They sell their señorita bread in multiples of 5, and the price scales proportionally. They also have some packaged breads at the checkout counter and a display case with donuts and malasadas. I got 5 señorita breads for $4, and a guava malasada. When I was handed my bag of goods, the señorita breads were still warm! I've never had this type of bread before so I have no comparison. However, the fat, cigar-shaped breads were really satisfying while hot and fresh. They are buttery, sugary, and chewy inside. The texture was a bit homogenous for me, but still quite tasty. I had a second one hours later and it was not as nice. I think they would definitely benefit from a reheat if you have leftovers. The guava malasada was not my favorite. The jam inside was more musty than fragrant, and very artificially red. The dough itself was well-fried and soft, even fresh out of the refrigerator on the second day. I love the textural difference of the sugar crystals on the surface, compared to a traditional donut glaze. I ended up scooping the guava filling out of the middle and eating the fried bread. Overall, while I enjoyed the señorita breads, Chula Vista is a bit of a trek and I would not go out of my way to get them. I am interested in trying Starbread in the Bay, to see if they taste different.

They also have a young man who plays jazz piano there every Sunday, so the ambiance is pretty awesome along with the nice weather. I also had a matcha ginger thyme latte with oat milk which was just tasty since ginger is a rare flavor in coffee drinks. I loved it, and it was so good that I took an extra one home. The service is amazing, and on busy days you may have to wait a bit, but it's worth it. If you have any questions about a dish, don't hesitate to ask!

Everything combined into a large bowl almost overflowing. My wife ordering the Eggy sandwich, it was a 4 egg she reduced it to a two egg. She says was delicious . We then finished off trying a great strawberry scone. If you're local or a tourist you've now got my seal of approval, lots of tables , a live piano player on the patio. Great on a sunny sun filled afternoon. Bring your friends and family. Pet friendly. Food was reasonably priced and delicious

I finally went again today. I showed up and the dude was nowhere to be seen, but HE WAS OPEN and there were still a few donuts left. So either he sells out way early, or makes none to make it look like he's doing well. I'm gonna assume the former. I gave it about 8 minutes of hanging out and he finally showed up. I got us 2 cinnamon rolls, jelly donut, and a glaze. Their donuts hit different. They are not Yum Yum, Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kreme, or one of those stupid "boutique" donuts that cost $7.50 a piece. Also, if you're paying for a boutique donut, you deserve the stale cereal you're getting. Nah, these are plain, regular donuts. They're a little smaller than what you'd find at a big chain. But maybe it's like eating smaller fruit, it's more packed with flavor. The sugar, and crunch is here. These are solid freakin donuts. I've never seen less than 4 kinds out at once, but I haven't been here too often. The ambiance of CA-75 in the background is pretty sweet while you wait. The moment you walk through the door, the smell of fresh baked pan hits you and it is everything. The selection of pan dulce and bolillos had me feeling like I was back in Mexico City. So many options, beautifully displayed. That part alone almost made the trip worth it. But the customer service... yeah, I'm not the only one who noticed. I asked the lady at the register in Spanish if there was any chocolate pan de muerto and she completely ignored me. Like, didn't even look up. Just called someone from the back in Spanish, which, mija, I understood every word. The girl who came to help me was a little better but not much. She told me the chocolate pan de muerto was sold out, which fine, I get it, it was a holiday. But that's literally all you had to say. No smile, no "sorry we're out," nothing. Just took my money and that was that. The panadería itself deserves five stars. The staff needs some work. I'll probably go back for the pan because it really is that good, but I'm keeping my expectations low on the service side.
