Is topped at this location in the East H Street Chula Vista Terra Nova Shopping Center a few days before Thanksgiving. I was impressed with the amount of items that they had in stock for customers who were shopping for the Holiday. They had everything from balloons, turkeys, potato sacks, pastas, vegetables, to baking and cooking pans, utensils, and many desserts. I was able to pickup several items here that other stores were out of and the price and quality is great. I bought a 10lb bag of Russett Potatoes for $1.99! The only thing that I could not find was Collard Greens. Everything else was in abundance here. I think that next year I will stop here first to get the majority of my shopping done. First time being at this location, as I typically go to the other one off highway 54. Was in the shopping center and decided to pickup a few things. Smart & Final has joined the coupon bandwagon, when that use to be there slogan. So in order to get a few deals, we had to sign up and add the coupons to the app. Not use to doing this for Smart & Final, in any event this location is a bit small but kept well stocked for some items but out of stock on a lot of items that were on sale but yet the store was clean. Great location with plenty of parking available. Love how well stocked and organize it is. They sell fresh produce even organic ones. I enjoy shopping here for bulk items or organic produce or water. The staff are all friendly and efficient that there's rarely any long lines despite people line up with full shipping carts. Positive experience overall recommend this location a visit. read more

Before you buy anything, check the expiration dates. Went in to pick up fresh salsa. Today is 4/28/24. Expiration dates were 4/13/24, 4/25/24 and 4/28/24. Decided we'll just have pizza. Picked up a frozen pizza brand that I buy when we're in a hurry. Got home, 5 minutes away, opened the box and 1/2 of the pizza was frozen. The other half was sopping wet. Their freezer doesn't work either. Unable to eat. Threw it in the trash. Bought avocados, cut open, black inside. The only thing This Smart and Final is good for is canned goods. Sushi Vendor PADA owners Sam and Sunny makes the most delicious assortment of sushi rolls and are reasonably priced. They both arr very friendly and easy to talk to. If you need a specialty roll, talk with them, they are at the H street store, they may able to accommodate your tastes. This is our usual neighborhood store which we frequently go to for everything. We are always happy with the service and the supply of items on the shelves. In particular a gardenia jar (that has pickled carrots, onions, peppers, olives, celery) which is bought every month. Not anymore. This jar is about 64 ounces they also have one about 32 ounces. Of course the bigger one is cheaper for amount you receive. This is the second time we have brought it home and there is something wrong with it. When you peel off the covering under the lid it had a bunch of white film and the olives were discolored. The cashiers are always so gracious in returning it and this time I just got a refund. They informed me they were pulled off the shelf for awhile but now have returned. Maybe they ah ou uld just stop trying to sell them. read more

As a guy I like shopping here for my groceries. No, they don't have all the options on items like Ralphs does. But, I like that. I can get in and out quicker when I only have to pick between 2-4 brands of items rather than 10-12. Meats and produce are always better priced than Ralphs. But dairy products such as organic milk, yogurts, coffee creamers, and so on are actually slightly expensive than Vons/Ralphs. Customer service is just ok. Definitely not as friendly or good as the Ralphs on East Palomar. read more

Came here just to check it out and see what they had to offer, which is all the normal things a Smart & Final offers (lots of bulk items, cleaning items, restaurant things/food) but this has... EXTRA *wink wink* things to offer! - I would say this one has a larger produce section than other S&F's. Lots of different apples, potatoes, onions, berries, papayas, coconuts, veggies, and multiple organic options. - This also has a "Bulk Items" section where you can bag your own flours, peanuts, rice, snacks, and coffee (the coffee section smells like heaven, omg). - The alcohol section is WAY larger than the other S&F I'm used to. - Lots of seafood and meat options. - Bigger frozen food section than other S&F I've been too. - There's a bakery! It looks kinda small and its shoved in the back but they have a bakery! Looks like they make their own bread, bagels, and donuts and whatnot. Didn't look bad, either. Its not half bad. Might come back and make it part of our shopping places. People there seemed really nice, too. Prices are so-so, just be smart about things and you'll get good deals. I never shop at one place, but I made a mental list of what's cheaper there. OH. BAD THING: they didn't have meat alternatives in the frozen food section. I usually get some meals from Gardein since I don't eat meat but they didn't have any... No Sweet & Sour "pork". No Orange Chik'n. No nothin... OH. ALSO, no Hungry Jack pancake mix. I'm not a fan of Smart & Final Extra. They act like a big box warehouse store, but when you do the math, it's worth getting a membership at Costco. Yeah, they will accept manufacturer's coupons, but not a lot of people I know take advantage of it. I will buy a few items at S&F, but I find their stuff to be pricey (per unit) compared to Costco (especially if the similar product is on sale at Costco). You can sometimes get a better deal at Vons, Ralphs or Northgate, if you are into shopping multiple stores to get the best deals. The store layout is a bit confusing. Sometimes their bakery/deli area will have the lights off. Maybe conserving energy? Some of the aisles are out of stock or messy. Their "express lane" sometimes takes longer than the regular lane. I haven't experienced a fast check out ever. As for their private label brands, I don't find theirs to be "the highest quality". They just go for what's cheap and the value. read more

STAY AWAY...BAD SERVICE...!! This place doesn't even deserve a star. This place has horrible guest service. I had a basket full of groceries, which they should be happy! The look in the cashier's face was one of disgust and anger. Made me feel unwanted and not appreciative of the time I spent shopping at their store. I got so pissed off at the clerk that I just left the full basket there and stormed out of the store. They only had two registers open! What was I suppose to do? Take my nephew shopping here every month they have great prices on food and he is able to make his budget last the whole month. We go to the one on h st it is bigger than the one on main st but even this one doesn't have the greatest selection They have all the basics though and that's why we come here. I live 1/2 mile from here but prefer to get on the freeway and drive myself to the Fourth Ave. location, which is cleaner, better stocked, and friendly. Stay away from the raw sesame seeds in the bulk containers! The seeds are infested with tiny worms/maggots that came alive as the seeds were being toasted in my skillet. Tossed the whole pound of seeds in the trash. Ewwww! Other than that, I enjoy shopping at S&F. You must try their humungous roast chickie for $7.00. I mean, it is huuuuuge! This store sucks. The selection sucks. Their bare shelves suck. The good stuff they DO carry is never restocked. Their produce is mediocre at best. Their baby food selection sucks. It's the closest one to me so I go for convenience but I always know I will never find everything I need there so I've either got to drive down the road for about 10 mins to Ralph's or get on the freeway and go to Vons. I don't know why my cashier got angry with me. After she rang up my eggs, I immediately placed them in my cart because I didn't want them bagged. She asked me if I thought she was going to break them, and that she was planning to put them on the bottom. No? I just wanted to help make the process faster.
