I have had a lot of problems getting medications from both the w pt Loma pharmacy and the Caremark.com mail order. I've called the parent company to get a medication approved as it's not on the local CVS 'formulary. Aetna approved it after getting more info from my doc. The local pharmacy said they never got the faxed order even though I watched my doc send it to the same fax where my other meds had been sent and refilled. I never did get it so my doc sent in the med I was on before which is not working well. I plan to change my part D coverage in oct. there have been other problems as well with this company. read more

It feels a bit odd to review a large drug store chain like CVS and also feel a bit like I am venting after a bad experience, but I have been coming to this particular location for many years, and as the store seems to be on a decline. Also, I have filled out the customer satisfaction survey many times with constructive criticism, but things only continue to go downhill. I have been a big fan of the CVS chain in the past. I could fulfill a lot of my needed items in a quick trip. Additionally, I found that I really liked a lot of the seasonal, holiday and specialty decorations. This particular store is a bit smaller and has always hadfewer items than most. However, they still used to have a good deal of summer and holiday items, as well as some cute novelty beauty items that I enjoyed buying for gifts. However, the store is often not well stocked. I found a couple of times that I couldn't find glue, or they were out of mailing supplies. A while back, they stopped having shopping baskets, which is a huge pain, as small makeup items fall right through the cart. Yesterday, I walked in to find out that now they don't even provide baskets or carts. Seriously, I'm supposed to carry everything in my two hands while I'm shopping? Also, they added the automatic checking stations and reduced staff. However, in the past it made it hard to have someone unlock batteries or to purchase alcohol, as you cannot do that at the automatic checking station. Now, almost all of the personal care items in the entire store are locked away, which is the norm for the area due to shoplifting. Sadly, makes it impossible to shop. Yesterday, a nice gentleman came quickly to unlock the toothpaste for me. However, as he was the only one at the register, he became very busy when I needed other beauty items unlocked after that. Also, I buy a lot of greeting cards, which cannot be purchased at the automatic checking machines. Because they ares so light, they don't register that you have already placed the item on the table. I have yet to be able to complete a purchase of a greeting card at an automatic station. Yesterday was an absolute disaster and what should've taken me about 5 minutes took about 25. I was miserable and I felt awful for the poor employee who was keeping his cool and trying his best to deal with all of the customers who were just as miserable. The only reason for two stars instead of one, is because the employee was dong his best and definitely deserves a raise. This place is a total mess. read more

My husband and I were visiting La Jolla. We had forgot to pack a few things such as floss. This CVS Pharmacy is located in a large shopping plaza next to Kona Kakes and The Cravory. There is ample parking spots available. There are occasional deals offered through CVS pharmacy. If you have the CVS mobile application and are a rewards member, you can receive a variety of coupons to use at CVS. The store is well stocked and has a lot of inventory. You can find some great deals on seasonal items especially during the holidays. We ended up purchasing a few items from CVS such as floss and mouth wash. There were a few team members at the register to help check out customers. The team member assisting us was friendly and asked if we needed any help during our visit at CVS Pharmacy. read more

This store is inferior for lots of reasons. They are always out of products that you go for. There are no humans working, it is all self-check-out. You are left to fend for yourself. Many items are locked such as laundry and cleaning supplies and candy. A security guard at the door cannot direct you to location of products. Everything is overpriced. There is another CVS less than a mile away. This location would be better used for something else. read more

I went in to get a refill cartridge for my Sodastream and found out that the cartridges are all locked because of the heavy shoplifting in this location. The employee quickly got me a refill cartridge from the back. She went out of her way to answer my questions about the sale items and other employees helped me locate sale items that I couldn't find. I spoke with three different employees and they were all very helpful and friendly and went out of their way to give me great customer service!!! A big shout out to this CVS location!! I wanted to share my recent experience. Two days ago, I stopped by for a flu shot, but was told I needed an appointment. I scheduled one for today. When I arrived for my appointment, I noticed another person came in as a walk-in and was given the paperwork and shot immediately. While receiving my shot, I commented--perhaps out of frustration--that I would go elsewhere next time. The staff member simply brushed me off with "okay." I understand policies can vary, but the inconsistency and lack of courtesy felt disappointing. I hope you'll consider clearer communication and a more customer-focused approach in the future. read more

Not a fan of some new hires at this pharmacy within the past month. I pick up my meds almost biweekly so I'm not unaware of how their systems works. I called for some assistance here and this lady treated me like an idiot even though my CVS app and medical care app said my prescription is supposed to be at THAT store. Sometimes in life speed bumps come along and they throw a surprise in your day. I got locked out of my car and I should have gotten the young cashiers name. He was so patient and assisted me even with the influx of customers. He made sure he was ringing up the other customers while still assisting me between it all. The patience to multitask all the customers while still doing his job was great to see. Although, I didn't get his name he was beyond helpful and a savor for me in a moment when things weren't going so well. I just wanted to say thank you for all your help. The review is not only for this CVS but every business that sells "Vanilla" gift cards. I was charged the $150 for the Vanilla gift card I purchased here and later found I was given the card without money on it(there was a "problem" during scanning and I was told to grab another one). Not sure if this was a real mistake or a full scam the employee was running (it was during christmas). But several calls to CVS, hours of explaining and promises by CVS to look into it and call me back and nothing. No call and find out CVS "closed the case" and did not tell me. They have it set up to scam you. CVS says call vanilla, vanilla says calls CVS. DO NOT BUY VANILLA CARDS. After researching Vanilla, they have 1 star everywhere and there are hundreds of complaints saying the money was not on the cards purchased. SCAM!!!!! read more

I will give it a 2 for cleanliness and spacious but the service sucks!! I came in to buy my favorite beer new Belgium citradellic for $8.50 with a cvs card. I get up to the register to pay and I try to see if I did have a cvs card updated with my recent phone number. It didn't go through so I was charged full price. I got a little upset because the young girl didn't even offer to ask if I wanted to apply for one. Usually they always ask or put in there # but this girl was a b & she had a foochi face. I have been shopping at this CVS location for the past 12 years, and I am always impressed with the store and pharmacy staff. Yesterday was another example of the friendly and timely service I always receive, despite that they are seemingly always short staff (they tell me). Ry the pharmacy tech was very genuine and kind, and so was Marjorie the pharmacist that answered my RX q's and finished my transaction. As I left, I saw the young man who I was told a few visits ago is the store manager... he was holding down the front by himself, helping all the customers checking out. I've seen him run back and help check out pharmacy customers in the past, and he is always friendly and working hard. The whole staff acts like a team, and consistently gives service with high standards. Likely part of the reason they are short staff is bc of their standards, which is increasingly hard to find in the work force. I would recommend CVS recognize them and take good care of them. read more

This was once a very popular and busy Long's Drugstore before CVS bought out the venerated chain and moved on in recently. Unfortunately, this has been a change NOT for the better, as the previous Long's ran a great retail space and had many friendly employees well-known to the neighbors in the community. Now the new CVS has turned the place into a dump. The aisles are untidy, they are out of needed merchandise-such as back-to-school products or even charcoal lighter, and the new cashiers are curt and snappish. To their credit, it seems like there is not enough help in the store and that may partly explain their bad attitudes. Still-if CVS is going to take over these Long's-at least try to improve them and not make things worse. Now maybe enough time hasn't gone by for a smooth transition from Long;s to CVS, but the company honchos need to step it up and bring this store up to standards. Long's standards. Train employees to be friendlier; make sure prices are put up properly, don't run out of dividers and notebooks when people are doing their back-to-school shopping. That is just common sense retail strategy! I will give this CVS the benefit of the doubt, but that feeling won't last forever. Already you can hear people muttering on their way out the doors about what a mess it is, It is times like these that one really misses Long's and the good ole days! Let's see how this new CVS shakes out eventually and hope for the best. You don't want to have a neighborhood store you dread going to. I pick up prescriptions for my Aunt at the CVS on West Point Loma Blvd San Diego. My Aunt and I were puzzled that she had not received her antibiotics. I went to the store today and was helped by the Pharmacist, Dario and Assistant Ry. They were more than helpful! Dario explained the meds had been picked up for delivery. For whatever reason my Aunt did not get them. Dario called her insurance and was able to fill the prescription in just a few minutes. They were very busy and I can't thank them enough for taking the time to help me! My Aunt has lung cancer and needs to be on long term antibiotics to control an infection. I couldn't believe what just happened. Went the store with my husband to get his medication and also we were trying to get a bottle wine. He was the one paying for everything, he showed his ID ( he is 28 I'm 27) I was with no wallet on me but still, he was the one paying. So the cashier asked me for my ID too. I told him I didn't have it on me and I was not the one paying, so everything ok. But the cashier ( don't know his name, old man, long hair) starts to be rude saying that he needs to see my ID. Never saw it before. I always go to this cvs , usually all the employees are very nice but today I got really surprised. The cashier said that if we are together all of us needs to show the ID. I always dread going to any pharmacy, it's usually a bunch of drones with no personality. Overworked and underpaid individuals dealing with people who have medical conditions is never a fun environment to be around. Nothing like spending your Saturday morning trying to get a prescription filled. When I walked in and stood in line I was immediately greeted with a smile. This was on, where was the Drone? I complimented the pharmacist on his creative shirt and was told to go over to the drop-off counter. The other pharmacist, who was trying to assist me, had a glitch with my insurance. Not her fault, yet she was sincerely apologetic about it which is something I truly appreciate. She was compassionate which is all you can hope for with anybody involved in the medical industry. While she was doing her data-entry, she also apologized for the speed of which the computer processed, again not her fault. I was rather impressed. While waiting, I spotted gnome behind her computer. Immediately I was excited; I have a thing for gnomes. I asked if I could take a picture of it because I also take pictures of random gnomes, probably because I'm a weirdo. She was more than happy, and celebrated my oddness. This honestly made my day better. When you're dealing with a medical condition, whenever somebody else can do anything to make you smile it is always a good thing! She pulled him out behind the computer and then said "Wait, you have to see his friend!" She stepped away from her computer only to come back with a Sadie Hawkins gnome twin holding a different sign. This was perfect. It really is the little things in life other people do that makes living much more enjoyable. I had to position them and take a picture. I asked their names, all gnomes should be named. The one on the right is named Terry however the one on the left did not have a name. I scrunched my face and said,"His name is Frank!" She agreed, his sign was perfect for his name. In the end, I wasn't able to get my prescription filled due to my insurance issue, none-the-less my pharmacist did try to turn the glass half-full, "At least you got the picture of the day." She told me all my options so when it comes to filling my future prescriptions so it could be as convenient for me as possible. She was right, I didn't leave upset - I left really happy. It wasn't her fault my prescription didn't get filled, but she did try to make my day brighter. That's what customer service is all about! Be very careful with prescriptions filled at this pharmacy! I had been a long-term customer of the nearby Walgreen's, but at the start of the year my insurance was no longer accepted (Express Scripts), so I moved to neighboring CVS. The experience of transferring prescriptions was like a clown show: They didn't know the phone number for Walgreens. They never completed the first refill order (unknown reasons), so either a 40+ minute wait was required, or come back the next day. They MIS-FILLED two prescriptions with the wrong medication and/or dosage (Always carefully check against your old prescription bottle). Their automated telephone system keeps calling me even after I have picked up two different orders. Hopefully the California Board of Pharmacy will do a spot-check on this facility. read more

Horrible customer service with Saturday manager on duty. Came in Friday night to do 4 MONEYGRAM transactions to Mexico. MONEYGRAM cancelled them Saturday morning and told me to return to get my refund. The manager on duty said: 1. We don't keep that much cash on hand. I said yes you do - it's my money from last night and I'd like it back. 2. We'll, he said we deposit it all in the bank. I said no, it's Saturday and it's still in your safe. 3. Then, he said well, we don't have anything to do with MoneyGram. What? You have a kiosk right here that says MoneyGram and you took about $1800 from me last night for a MoneyGram payment. 4. Then he says I need to go down to the other CVS since they do more volume. He just told me they don't have my money....wtf? Then, after agreeing to accept money orders, I'm now being told their machine isn't working and to go to another location, while my cash sits in their safe. Horrible experience. read more

What....am I the ONLY Jew in Pt. Loma??!! I can NOT believe this CVS does not carry Hanukkah candles...no less ANYTHING having to do with Hanukkah. Rows and rows of Xmas stuff, but no Hanukkah. Then, when I find the manager and ask him why not, he says...and with a sourpuss face and not even an apologetic attitude, we only carry them in the La Jolla store. Ummmmm....excuse me....are you giving into the stereotype that all Jews are rich and so they only live in La Jolla down here?! They didn't even have them at Vons on Midway! WTF! Wonder what my chances are of finding them where I work in Kearny Mesa....lol. And the other reviews on here are right. This is a dirty store, with half filled shelves and VERY weird people hanging around it. I will NOT be going back to this one even though I live in OB.
