This is my favorite Smart and Final EXTRA in all of San Diego county! This is a Smart and Final EXTRA, so it has way more everyday food items than a regular Smart and Final. It has a nice selection of larger "Bulk" items - and "Family Size" products and I can Save quite a bit by buying them. This is also a restaurant supply store and has novel utensils that a business might need. There are 4 standard sizes of Ice cream scoops, for example, and they carry all 4 sizes here. I do not know of that many stores that have as nice a selection of restaurant supplies as this store does. This is one of the half dozen places in San Diego county that I regularly shop for groceries in. I am always treated with respect here and I appreciate that there are no long lines. They do not hesitate to open another checkstand if a half dozen people are in any one checkout lane - this is a marked contrast to, say, most Dollar Tree stores. I like their "First Street" store branded items - same quality as the name brands but always at a better price! Overall the quality and selection of fresh produce, meats, alcohol, and dairy products is exceptional. Thank you Smart and Final! I detest every Smart & Final's policy of requiring digital coupons. This store is no exception. It is irritating when one finds an item in the store with a label "managers special" with no mention needing a digital coupon. Then the cashier says the digital coupon is mandatory to gain the discount. The above happened to me today as I was shopping at this location on University. Besides complaining here, I am going to email their corporate offices about offering an alternative to digital coupons. read more

This location has rotisserie kitchens near the bakery section. I learned the hard way that not all locations have these chickens. The inter webs informed me that they do a good rotisserie chicken which is why I went on my quest to find one. I agree that it's a pretty good chicken. It's not salty and it is very tender. The texture feels like it was brined. The person at checkout commented that my chicken looked pale, as they are usually brown and crispy on the outside. I guess I'll look for a better chicken on my next visit. If you like deals, they have them here. The almond milk was on sale for 3 bucks and some of the meats (e.g. flap meat) look well marbled for about $7 a pound. Though, not everything is a steal, so I did not want to do all my shopping here. read more

I love this place. It's a smaller grocery store, but they fit literally as much product as they can in the store. Not only do they have bakery and meat items, but even fresh sushi. I do wish they would set up a self check out, but overall I love that this place is so close to me and has so many items. Complaints about homeless out and about - none there any longer - and i just moved back in October. But let's be real. Homelessness is a big problem in San Diego so to blame the grocery store for that problem is way off base. read more

I visit this store on a weekly basis, been coming here since it was Albertson's. I've seen a lot of employees come and go. Unfortunately, the cashiers here are the unfriendliest, most unhelpful employees ever. Bummer because some of the other employees are great, especially the produce guy. Be mindful if you need any help with a coupon or anything at checkout. You won't get anything from them, even if you're the only customer in line. One cashier actually told me my reusable bag was "disgusting". I hadn't noticed that it was a bit dirty from the last time I used it but thanks a lot for the shame lady. read more

I had a good experience at this Smart & Final. The staff members were helpful and friendly. I picked up several items, including K-Cup coffee pods, some Heiny for friends, and water. Everything was readily available and easy to find. In a nut shell, the store was well organized. I liked that the manager immediately opened up new registers as soon as the lines got long, and he himself ran the register. I love this store, however DO NOT use their delivery, they use Instacart, and they are the worst! Sadly I will no longer buy from them. I am finally writing a review for this neighborhood grocery store as I have been burned by them again for the last time. Their produce and meat I can only assume is not kept at proper temperatures or is not maintained by the staff because I seem to always find rotting or spoiled food. It's probably due to a lack of staff because they never have more than 1 cashier working and always end up having to page people over the intercom to open registers when the line inevitably builds up. I bought a pork shoulder and opened the same day, expiration date was within limits, but the meat was rancid. Today I bought packaged salad, a packaged in expiration salad surely this would be fresh, rotten on the bottom. There's always a ton of shady homeless sleeping in front of it and I've seen it been actively shoplifted 3 times and a patrons car broken into. I only come here due to the proximity to my house, but I am done. I'll brave the crowds at ralphs in Hillcrest so I don't have to go back out to the store again due to a bad ingredient. read more

Oh Smart & Final Extra, how I love you! This is one of those stores, that popped up in my neighborhood after being several different grocery stores. I would regularly drive or walk past, for years, but never actually go inside. I would realize the error of my ways upon my first time deciding to check it out. It is a clean store, with a very friendly crew, and they have a wide variety of both warehouse sized goods, as well as regular sizes, and all at competitive prices! It has become one of my regular shopping spots, replacing several other chain stores, as I can find most everything on my list here, and they have great weekly specials. I also love the fact that this store is "peaceful", if that makes sense. I don't know if it's just the time of day that I go, even though I've gone at several different times of the day, but I've never experienced it overly crowded, and the other shoppers don't ever helicopter or hover around me. I sincerely implore everyone not to come here since this store will tow your car in a predatory way. I was a regular patron but no more. I parked at their lot at 9:45 p.m. on a Saturday night and came back shortly at 11 p.m. And my car was towed and gone. Very predatory towing behavior. The towing company (Rescue Towing) Smart&Final chose to be in business with is a crook. They overcharged and towed vehicles incorrectly to cause damages regularly (See their review on Yelp). There are other horrendous reviews of smart&final customers getting towed on Rescue Towing's Yelp page. Thank you smart & final for choosing to go to the extreme when your entire parking lot was not even half full on a late Saturday night. This was my first time being in this store since it changed from an Albertson's to a Smart & Final. Walking in, I was pleasantly surprised because the new ownership has done this place well. The store is very clean and organized so it is very easy to find things I need. I love the buying in bulk aspect because it allows me to buy things in bulk without having to deal with the madness of Costco. One product in particular I was excited to find here was the Starbucks Cold Brew Coffee in a bulk container instead of the tiny 11 ounce bottles. They sell the 32 ounce version here for the price of 2 of those small bottles. What a great deal! This grocery store will be my go-to when trying to find things I consume daily, in bulk. The checkstands were incredibly empty, so checking out wasn't a hassle at all. This store has great selection, cheap prices, and is a painless shopping experience. One and done thanks to rude female cashier. Today I felt like doing my shopping in bulk to save some money. All n all the inventory was good until check out. The cashier clearly didn't want to bag my items and she made it very clear she didn't want to put my items in my cart.she was clearly frustrated and thanked me about 7 times for shopping and kept laughing while she thanked me in a passive aggressive tone. Then she told me she hopes I have a nice day and smiles and waves good bye like you would for your family if you were dropping them off at the airport. After being taunted I spoke with the assistant manager and she said she will speak with her. Needless to say I will never return. Well, I drove by North Park on my way home from the office and saw it on the way. I decided to go inside to pick on some groceries. Since I have a order that I selected for a delivery on Friday. Its clean and sanitizing free. The vegetation area was constantly desensitizing for the patrons with its water showers. I would say every 5-7 min increments. Great job on keeping COVID measures and everyone that shops in there. Everyone whom shopped there wear masks and keeping distances. Which is wonderful. While waiting in line for the registration to open, a woman was by trying to buy some liquor. A guy from the kitchen came out to help her. Overall it been a great experiences, where I am definitely planning to stop in more often. As a leading grocery store taking all measures and precautions toward COVID. A star less from a 5 star, due to the delivery portion. Which I am not too peachy with. Two of my item was out. And one was replaced. When I placed the order early this week. I am anticipated that what I order will be deliver to me. Which I didn't anticipating that they were out on the day of delivery. Other than that, it been a pretty wonderful experiences. read more

I'm thankful to have this store in the neighborhood. Staff is almost always pleasant and helpful and prices are very good. Two things would push this S&F to a 5 star rating: 1. Keep the shelves consistently stocked. Too often when I go in a number of items are not on the shelf. That's very frustrating. 2. Some of the bagged produce (eg. baby carrots, shredded lettuce) has either gone bad or goes bad within a day after bring it home. Just step it up a bit. Thank you. read more

Just Got done using the restroom at this smart And final and I have to say it is sickening. The urinal is broken and you have urine backed up dripping over on to the floor. So disgusting and VERY Unsanitary. Smart & Final are usually held to a high standard I guess the management and owner really don't give AF. I love this store ! You will enjoy the produce in the produce department. The employee who's name is EZE "easy" is by far one of the best produce department guys I have ever interacted with and I gone to Lazy Acres , Whole Foods , who are 4 to five times more expensive and the food quality is usually alright but I like the price is at Smart and final. The MANGOES are awesome ! The produce guys here really know how to take care of the stores customers. It's really nice to see that there are produce department managers that pay attention to doing it professional ! As i proceeded to get my items checked out, each of two elderly employee checkers at the time waived me on because they (1 didn't want to work. (2 didn't like skin color. I came into the store pretty frustrated that a restaurant messed up my order and I needed to correct the ingredients by going to the store before myself or guests ate anything and it was already late (hangry let's say).
