The butchers oversell you meat that you don't want or need to buy and the quality is not that great. Sometimes I feel like they show either drunk or hungover to work. I always ask for regular ground beef but they always serve me lean ground beef which doesn't go well with what I want to make whether it's albondigas, beef stew or burgers. ,

Advertised price for March 22-28, 2023: Beef Top Round Steak (Aguayon de Res en Bistec) $3.29/lb

March 22-28, 2023 ad: Beef Top Round Steak (Aguayon de Res en Bistec) $3.29/lb. Went to the store, was told the price was printed wrong & it wouldn't be honored. Fine print on ad says "We Reserve the Right to [...] Correct Printed Errors." In other words, they reserve the "right" to violate Publishing 101: Have your whole office review & mark up the proof copy for corrections BEFORE it goes to the printing presses. Or maybe there's something now called Ad Publishing 101: Include fake loss leaders in your ads to trick customers into your doors, then feign incompetence.

This place has alot going for it 1. Cheap burritos!! They are phenomenal. 2. Cheap produce! It's as fresh as it can get. 3. Great selection of meats. A little seafood as well. 4. The staff. Super friendly. 5. They sell liquor also. Bottom line this is a great little market. Your missing out by not visiting.

Whoops.

Located on the corner of University and 46th st is Supermercado Murphy's, a small neighborhood grocery store offering most of the essentials. The 1st thing you notice is the absence of a parking lot, you'll have to turn down 46th or the alley to access the small (maybe 10 spaces) parking lot behind the store. Also in that alley are $.25 water machines. There is limited street parking in front, but you have to be ruthless to parallel park here when University has traffic. Inside you'll find fresh produce, a butchers counter with a good selection of meats and seafood, and also a restaurant serving hot fresh Mexican food. I've only seen 2 checkout counters open at a time but the lines are never long and they move fast thanks to fast working cashiers. My son and I come in the mornings for fresh baked bollitos, usually 4 for $1. In the aisles you'll find a small selection of everyday items. Some of them carry higher prices than big chain supermarkets ($4 for peanut butter for example). This is a good place to pick up beer, meat and fresh made (the same day and still warm) corn tortillas for a bbq or cookout. I don't do my everyday shopping here, as some items are a lot cheaper at other places, but I do come enough to recommend it for certain things already mentioned.

Never have i seen the line look like this! (One check line light on)

Great selection of Mexican food items with low prices, good meat counter but fairly slim pickings for veggies

I was pretty…read moresurprised at the size and how well it seems to be managed given his clean and well-organized it was when I visited. Prices did seem a bit inflated but you're in a Ralph's downtown in San Diego so it was expected. Bathrooms require a code with a purchase from the store which was also to be expected. Employees there are definitely rude and sarcastic which brought down the experience of going there. They do have a patio but there are a good amount of homeless people around there so not sure if eating your lunch there is the best idea.

I entered the store and found my way to the back were the bathrooms are only to find that I needed a code to unlock the door. I suppose that is a necessary evil given the homeless problem in and around the store. For folks like me who just need to pee, it was a real hassle. I scouted around the store for a couple of minutes looking for an employee who might provide me with the code. After not having any luck, I said "F*ck it" and left. I just held it until we arrived at the building where the car was parked and used the facilities there. The store, did however, look like a pretty good Ralph's if you live or were staying nearby.

I love this store! I rarely shop here, but one day after lunch, I wanted dessert and I remembered…read morethey had Julian apple pies. I've been in before and bought one of my favorite wines, but it was all about dessert today. I also grabbed a Talenti vanilla gelato because you can't have apple pie without it being ala mode! I waited at the register since there wasn't anyone around, but then the friendly worker came out from over by the coffee area. Apologized and rang me up. He: The pie is 50% off Me: What? He: Yes Scored! They offer the discount when the pie is a day after its "sell by" but it was still delicious! Ok, so now I'm going to stop in when I'm in the neighborhood. I still would've paid full price because I love Julian pies! Great little market!

Service is always helpful and friendly, from answering questions to finding things. The second half of the store even contains a deli & coffee shop. Finally tried their Latte and it's perfect. But best of all, if you don't feel like cooking, they offer fresh lasagna & eggplant parmigiana in the fridge to reheat at home -and they're delicious! Store is clean and well organized. It's difficult to leave without an armful of goodies!!
