I wanted to make pizza so I got the spicy Italian & pepperoni sausages for it, and both of them were soooo tasty. Three sausages + the $6 basil pesto totaled a little over $18. Of course $12 for three sausages isn't particularly sustainable for a lot of us, but when it's a special occasion or you're wanting to treat yourself, it's very worth it :) The staff is great, and the place is located in an area a lot of parking and close to balboa. The basil pesto was also really yummy, I added a little lemon to it because I love a little more citrus in mine and it really made all the flavors pop.

This review is only for the meat market section…read more I've been coming here for literally decades, although it had been a while since my last visit. In the past, this was the place to go if you wanted that old-school butcher shop experience and some of the best carne asada around. Unfortunately, my visit yesterday was disappointing. The meat selection seemed mediocre compared to what I remember. The carne asada was cut into small pieces (around 6 inches across) and was already pre-marinated. Years ago, the cuts were much larger, making them easier to grill and far more visually appealing. Back then, if you wanted it marinated, they would do it fresh for about $1 more per pound. That level of service made a difference. The young man behind the counter also gave me the impression that he really didn't care about my concerns, which only added to the disappointment. After cooking it, the carne asada just wasn't the same. It seemed dry and lacked the flavor and quality I had always associated with this market. I'm willing to give them one more chance in case this was just an off day. But if my next experience is the same, it will unfortunately be my last visit.

After waiting in a single file line for about 10 minutes, we finally got to the front, where the staff takes orders the old-fashioned way - put it on a ticket and clip it onto a ticket wheel for the kitchen. Everything is made from scratch, so we knew that after we placed our order for a bacon cheeseburger combo and french dip, we were going to be waiting a while. And yep, about 20 minutes later, my name was called, and I picked up our orders. My wife's french dip, she proclaimed, was simply awesome. The fries are done in house (note, with zero salt, so you'll want to ask for some when you pick up your food), and are definitely tasty. My bacon cheeseburger was HUGE. Half a pound of meat, then piled high with bacon. Side note - multiple options on the cheese (I chose swiss) and they use real cheese - a definite plus. The burger was just too big - too tall, too much - my only recommendation to this awesome place is lower the size so that you can actually take a bite. A nit, I know, but still.... Gotta recommend, we'll hit it again, but will try to hit it after 2pm...seemed to slow down a bit about that time.

We typically go to Iowa Farms since it's close to us and we're familiar with the location. We love getting the potato salad and bbq baked beans (prepackaged) sides there when we stop in, but if you're not early on the weekend, they usually run out. So we decided since we'd be in the Bay Park area, we'll check out the original location, Siesel's. Glad we did! I wanted to make a slow cooker brisket one weekend, so it was perfect. Siesel's is a bit larger than Iowa Farms and feels a bit more open. Same great cow awaiting outside the store. But they have a whole deli counter with all the sides plus more! They didn't have any ready made prepackaged bbq baked beans, it was better, made fresh daily and we were able to get as much as we wanted at the deli counter. They also have several different Siesel's signature potato salads and pasta salads that aren't offered prepackaged at Iowa farms, which I absolutely love! My favs are the Asiago pasta and deviled egg potato salad. We also decided to try their Tri-tip sandwich made to order at the deli and it was delicious! Fluffy bun piled high with Tri-tip covered in bbq sauce and have the option to add cheese and anything else. Love it! Staff is always very helpful. Parking lot can get full on the weekends, and they can run out of the pre-prepared meats in the front counter, but make sure to ask if there's any more in the back or they may be able to prepare some for you! They have tequila up front that come in all great shapes and characters on them. My husband got a tri-tip torta sandwich with avocado and lettuce, etc. Each of your food items comes with a canned soda. I like how you order what you want, then you come to the front and pay for it, so that you can see other things that you may want to buy. Also, you can also add drinks, chips, or other snacks to your order. You can also get whatever you need because they have a convenient market inside of the establishment.
