I went there to fill a prescription that I've been taking for years. I'm retired and on a fixed income. I have MediCal and Medicare. Heaven was the assistant at the counter. After filling my prescription she said $51.00. I said several times that Medical always covered this. She insisted that no the insurance did not. My wife questioned her then my wife asked to see a manager. Heaven reluctantly called a manager and he said yes it was covered. I was fully refunded and have no co-pay. Trying to get RX transferred due to insurance change was a nightmare. Walgreens attempted twice and I finally had to call and they denied getting the request. Someone is not telling the truth and I am sure it's not the ones getting the RX. I told them to transfer ALL my RX and today I found out one cream that I needed was not transferred. Why would you not transfer all when that was my request. Spoke with Ha Lee pharmacist. Terrible customer service and definitely will not recommend their pharmacy! read more

Just had to cover those roots at midnight and go in search of some nice n easy hair color--there's something bizarrely comforting and soothing about the predictability of a chain drugstore that's open at all hours of the night and morning, traipsing around the store and scoring some of that color, as well as other sundries. We stopped into this CVS to grab some water for our day trip. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the cashier. In fact, every employee was so friendly and helpful that we were inundated with customer service. We picked up a few items and then we made our purchases. There are some souvenirs that are sold here, so look here to save some money vs going to Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf. The cashier was very friendly with everyone she rung up. i live so close it would be hard to avoid going to this CVS. sometimes i do tho... being 2 blocks up from Cannery Row means the idiots from out of town are going to screw up the traffic in the parking lot. HINT: follow the arrows painted on the road and life will be easier for us all!!!!! the lines can be horrific at times---you never really, really know when its gonna be bad. Of course, right around 5p when the traffic is the worst on Lighthouse Ave is usually pretty bad. However, some of the employees are really good at moving people thru their line. There is a lot of turnover in employees. Thats pretty typical for these types of stores. One older, blonde lady, who I should know her name by now, she works the night shift a lot,.... she can be direct and seem not-so-happy at times---BUT I have found the nicer you are to her- the nicer she is back! Its possible to get her to smile even when customers are being difficult! My hats off to her when the drunks from the bars stumble in causing drama near bar close time..... They have what i want 99% of the time and the store is kept clean and well-organized. I never even carry the CVS card with mii and just use my telephone # for reference. They ask you if you have the card because they HAVE to!!!! just say No politely if you dont have the card and dont want to save money. Cuz thats all the CVS Card does is SAVE YOU MONEY! (well, i suppose they track yur spending habits & what not....but everyone does nowadays. Scheduled a Covid vaccine appointment for my high at-risk son who just turned 12. Went through the proper registration process. For days up until the appointment CVS texted me multiple times to remind me of my appointment time. Finally the day arrived and I left work, picked up my kids, drove a half hour (each way) to get to the appointment on time only to be told by a very rude woman at the pharmacy counter that they weren't doing any vaccine appointments today because they didn't have the personnel. I mentioned that it would have been considerate of them to text their customers to let them know before they make the trip. She offered zero sympathy much less an apology. To top it off I went over to the vaccination area and it was a mess, didn't even look sanitary. I don't think I'll be going back to CVS anytime soon. read more

Cash Value of Stupid. I just went to this store,5 Feb. 2022, to buy deodorant and the shelves are bare. Then you go to the other side of the store and the aisle in front of the coolers is full of bins of merchandise that has not been put out for sale. This is a store where you never get what you want, I always have to settle for something different than I want, and I am not that kind of shopper. I asked the manager when they were putting out the other merch and she said to make do, that's how it is now. Empty shelves and empty heads. I said no, I can go shop at Walgreens, that's how it is. This is a very good CVS. We go to Monterey for long weekends four or five times a year. We always stop at CVS first to stock our fridge with waters, fruit, wine, and some other staple items we would need. They always have everything we need and the staff is very friendly. They have a private parking lot which works for us! Parking is hard to come by in Monterey sometimes! The location is perfect and right down the street from our hotel so we just walk down and pick up everything we need for our long weekend. I will continue to go to CVS immediately upon arriving in the Monterey Bay area. They also have excellent prices and you can use your extra care card to get better discounts. Kudos to CVS and kudos to the staff of this location! read more

In these times most of us are just asking for kindness and compassion and Brianna and Kathy have me exactly that. I lost my keys on a hike and hitchhiked to the Lighthouse shopping center. My phone was about to die, I didn't have my wallet as it was locked in my car and Brianna and Kathy gave me compassion and kindness and generosity. They allowed me to charge my phone so I could call AAA. I am so grateful for their kindness. Especially brianna, she was so understanding and patient. Thank you so much. Not only was she super kind to me, I saw her re-stocking shelves, ringing up customers and greeting and directing customers to their needs. This is THE WORST CVS I have ever been to. Prescriptions are never ready when they call. The people in the pharmacy have no idea what they're doing. They will call and tell me my prescription is ready but have no trace of it when I arrive. They do not know what is going on. Go somewhere else for your medicine. read more

I will continue to review this pharmacy until they hire new staff. They are straight up liars. First they claimed the copay card wasn't good for more than a month when in bold type it says good for 1 or 3 mo. Then they told the pt that the provider only prescribed a 1 mo supply which also was a lie and easily proven given the fact everything is sent electronically. Own up to your own incompetence and stop throwing providers under the bus. I never recommend my pts use CVS as their pharmacy. read more

Would give this CVS 2 stars, but the pharmacy staff are amazing. The store is often (always) dirty on the outside. Parking is difficult due to tourists using the parking lot for their visit to cannery row or local bars. This store is definitely improving from what it used to be. Very customer service oriented. They are friendly even when you have to wait. They were efficient with my flu and Covid shots.

Tina who work the late shift is pretty much the only reason I keep going back to this CVS. She is so helpful when I'm trying to look for makeup and gives great product recommendations. She is always willing to check for items in the back if they are out of it on the floor. She remembers so many of the local customers' names and greets everyone with her contagious smile. This location has gone downhill quickly. There are only 2 cashiers because they replaced them with self-check. If you are picking up photos or purchasing alcohol you can't use them. Customers wait for a very long time. Additionally, they no longer monitor their parking lot so many times you have to circle around to find a spot. It has become public parking for Cannery Row. Made an appointment to get my Covid-19 booster shot. My appointment was at 8pm and they called to say the person who delivers the shot leaves at 7pm. They called me an hour before the person was going to leave. I don't live in Monterey. So I wouldn't be able to drop my plans and make it there on time. They had all day to call me and they decide to call me at the last minute. I would have been able to come in earlier in the day if they had called me. You know, for a giant chain, CVS did a terrible job stocking up for race weekend. I walked in looking for some simple track food and some easy snacks to take with me for quick stops on the ride home - beef jerky and granola bars for the road. Protein shakes, chips, and cookies for the hotel room and the track. They had everything I was looking for, but the shelves were dismally bare. Had I been a local or a tourist looking for the basics as well as some party treats, I would have been sorely disappointed. Lines were long but moved quickly but only because the cashiers were fast. I only saw two people working. TWO.....on race weekend. I like the location since it's close enough to the row but not ON the row, and it's near the hotel, so I'll come back again and again. I don't expect to be let down since I don't need much, but my 2-star rating takes into account the general state of the store and the poor job in anticipating the flood of tourists. read more

If I could give negative 5 stars I would. Went for prescription - was told 30min. I went back in an hour with the hope that they had plenty of time. Went back at exactly 1.30pm and of course they would not take me since their lunch break started that very second. I waited for 30 min until their lunch is over. I waited another 20 min for them to tell me that actually the prescription is not ready. I tell them that they just simply arent doing their jobs and the big asian girl with glasses starts giving me attitude and being rude. its during a work day and I am barely getting out of work to get medication for my son who is in ridiculous pain. Then they ring me for 86 dollars and when I ask why they say "Oh you have insurance" ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. I am NEVER going back to that place again and that Asian girl - you bet your ass I am calling the National Phone number and filing a complaint. read more

100% bleh. Long's was a paradise in comparison. This place isn't worth the time you waste looking for what they ought to have but don't. And I really hate the anti-shoplifting devices. Yeah, I know, that's cheaper in the long run than "inventory shrinkage," but it's awful that they treat ALL of their customers like criminals just because some of them are. Now, I could understand that level of security in, say, Salinas--but on Lighthouse? Really? Sure, New Monterey used to be a dangerous dump, but that was a few decades ago. Long's was a typically bright modern pharmacy/general store. CVS feels, hmm, dungeony. I feel like if I'm not careful, the DM is going to roll those 20-sided dice of his and surprise me with a random party of orcs and goblins patrolling the aisles. Maybe I'll get lucky and encounter the living dead instead! After all, they're the employees. Save yourself time and frustration--and expense--and go anyplace else. read more

This pharmacy does not honor the law passed in California almost two years ago allowing women to go in to the pharmacy and get birth control pills without a doctors prescription. They had the gall to tell me I was wrong in that a woman still needed a prescription. Nothing like women's rights being stomped on again and again and again. read more

CVS on Lighthouse used to be one of my favorite pharmacies. The staff was knowledgable and helpful and if they didn't know the answer to your question, they would find someone who did. All that seems to have changed. I went to get my flu shot and got conflicting advice from numerous staff people -- turn the form in; hold on to it; turn then the form in . . . I mean really, surely the pharm techs should know how to handle folks trying to get their flu shot. And don't get me going on their self-check out kiosks. I'm pretty adept at using these types of kiosks, but the ones at CVS are impossible to use if you're not buying CVS bags and if you're buying anything larger than a candy bar. What were they thinking when they replaced helpful cashiers with machines that are hard to use and that are too small for you to make a reasonable purchase? read more

The employees at this store are the best! Kind, efficient, and caring. You won't find a better CVS staff anywhere else. I can tell you the polar opposite of true of the 24hr Salinas CVS. The Monterey store should get a special award for their exceptional customer service. Being so close to Cannery Row, this is a busy CVS that sees a lot of tourists through its doors. When it's a holiday weekend, you'll see the store in disarray due to unruly children who are in town. Otherwise the store is clean, very well-organized and, well stocked. Ask an employee where something is and they instantly know! Not only will they know, but they'll go above and beyond and walk you to the item. The pharmacy is also fast and efficient. In all my years of CVS, in Los Angeles and here, I find this one to be among the best. They also have oodles of OTC products in extremely organized aisles. It makes it a pleasure to shop. Why four and not five stars? Well, I noticed a few popular items were constantly out of stock. I also found the cosmetics aisles to be a bit fragmented. And since it's s tourist town, I would hope for more ready-made items like sandwiches and salads. There are usually only a few, but lots of empty room in the refrigerator case. Lastly, the star deduction also relates to this being a 24hr store but not a 24hr pharmacy. I think keeping the pharmacy open until at least 11pm would be great. Since this location lacks a drive thru, staying open later would make up for that. Overall, this CVS is a great store and one of the few 24hrs places in Monterey where you can find whatever you need. On a side note, the seagulls here are pretty naughty. Don't throw anything in the trash you wouldn't want to see all over the parking lot. The seagulls have learned to stand right on the can and pull everything out. They also go right up to the side door and look right in. Don't be alarmed; they have just learned some bad habits! Hopefully the store will invest in seagull-resistant trash receptacles soon. read more

I came to this pharmacy while visiting from out of town. I had a script from a local doctor, but I was not in their computer system or known to them. This is significant because I was filling a free trial of what turned out to be a controlled substance medication. At no time was I asked for an I.D. to verify my identity. In filling this script since they ask to see my I.D. when I drop it off and pick it up. They filled the prescription despite it not being written on the correct type of prescription pad. I actually didn't know it was a controlled substance! There was a weird interaction when I went to pick it up. The man who waited on me repeatedly asked if I lived on a particular local street then when I said I did not he left for a few minutes with the script. I was suppose to have 30 pills. The bottle turned out to have 15 even though it said it contained 30. I went back to CVS to talk to them about it. The inventory was recounted and it indeed indicated that the bottle had 30 pills and they stated that they recounted controlled substances, however I had 15. The woman suggested that someone may have stolen them. There was no chance, but I wonder if someone did on their end...it is an expensive drug and that man leaving with no explanation make me wonder. However it is my word against theirs and to persist made me look like a drug addict. I talked to the doctor about it and said an incident report should have been filed and that she knew of someone else who was shorted on her medication there. Moral of the story is if this is where you fill your prescriptions they are not following the usual protocols for controlled substances and count your pills before you leave.
