Went here when my dog needed her hydrocodone prescription compounded to be less unpalatable for a canine...less cherry-flavored, more chicken. I first reached out outside of regular hours, but was promptly called back by a pharmacist. We discussed, I took in my Rx, spoke to the pharmacist a little more, and they took it from there. I was given a price range that varied by almost $400 but, once they talked with my vet, it came in at the low end. I was texted for approval of the price, I approved and they filled it quickly. The process took maybe a week, but understandable with one very busy professional having to talk to another very busy professional and a weekend falling in there. The first compounding pharmacy I spoke with (closer to home) immediately turned me away due to potential shortages on "ingredients." Privacy is not a priority at this pharmacy. Outrageous minimum fees for compounded drugs. An employee without badging or uniform was trying to speak to a patient about their medication. And we are back to being unpleasant. Put in my prescription for the order on a Tuesday. Got a confirmation email. Heard nothing for a week. Called into the pharmacy several times leaving messages to call me back as to where my prescription was or what the problem was. Finally after no return phone calls call back and they rudely told me that my doctor didn't refill the prescription. OK so I called my doctor leave a message And then I still don't hear back and now it's been two weeks and I'm out of my medicine. Absolutely ridiculous when I have to drive an hour to get there because when they mail it to me, it doesn't arrive. I know that the pharmacy was waiting the doctor not giving authorization, but in the past the doctors by the pharmacy and with the way, the pharmacy treats me about 70% of the time who am I supposed to believe? my PCP prescribed a 10% solution of diclofenac for my injured leg. This required compounding pharmacy attention. I happen to meet the owner who is also a pharmacist. He showed me their lab which is quite impressive and explained the enormous amount of paperwork they have to fill out to comply with regulations and ensure they're doing a high-quality job. Universally impressed We have used CAP RX for years. We have chronically ill kids and have needed sometimes uncommon meds and compounds. CAP has always been diligent in getting what they needed. My doctor even made me change from the CVS in Monterey to CAP RX. They deliver all prescriptions and they have a compound pharmacist! I have every prescription there except one. Only because they don't carry it! My insurance is taken out they take care of everything. Even though you may not have a payment for that medication they bring it and they never make a mistake or are bothered that some of my medication is free. Unfortunately CVS doesn't like that so I moved. I'm safer that way! read more

I've been getting a compounded prescription filled here for several years. It's just too bad that this is the only compounding pharmacy in the area. They have terrible communication - if you call in a prescription and it needs a refill order from the doctor, or if there was some issue with the prescription that will take a longer time, they never notify you to let you know, so you're kind of left hanging. If the doctor doesn't call back with a refill order, the pharmacist never lets you know so that you can call the doctor yourself. They rarely answer their phone and they rarely respond to voicemails that are left with a question. They also take forever to fill a compounded prescription. This has been a consistent issue for the four years I've been using them. But what can you do when they are the only compounding pharmacy in the area. read more

Disappointed to say the least. I started doing ketamine therapy to treat my migraines/anxiety, which has been wonderful. Unfortunately, I had to bury my dad back in December due to cancer, so I asked them to refill my medication on time so I could have it while traveling. They understood my situation & shipped 3 bottles worth almost $600 I had another trip planned back in January and requested my usual refill two weeks prior the due date. They assure me that my medication would be filled on time so I could take it. Unfortunately, it was never processed nor shipped. I get a sense that the only thing they care about is making $. My medication costed around $185, when other pharmacies charge half of that. My husband submitted a claim with American Express after seeing outrageous charges on our account, which was my fault. I apologized & told them I was going to resolve it. They pressured me daily to pay it back, and went as far as having the owner, Dana, text message me. I thought he was going to apologize for the horrendous experience I had, but once again all he wanted was the $. I told them that I spent thousand of dollars burying my dad so needed a little bit of time to pay them back, but they didn't even care. It's sad. You would think they care about you as a patient but they don't. read more

I just moved to Monterey and after bad experience after bad experience at different cvs pharmacies my husband and I decided to find a small local one. Only downside is the hours but it was a great experience and great customer service. Yes, they ask you to wear a mask and while I'm not normally one to wear one it makes sense given many of the customers safety. read more

This review is based on a visit that was pre-covid. So you're looking for a compounding pharmacy! What is that? Well I didn't know either, but when I got an emergency prescription for a pet with seizures that I could not get filled almost anywhere, and on a road trip hundreds of miles away from home, no less. I was told by the vet that a compounding pharmacy would likely be able to fill it for me, so I looked for one in the town I was going to be staying in. I called them up, gave them the number of my vet, and was told that they would be ready the next day. A few hours after this call, I got into town and stopped in. I was told that they would be ready much sooner than anticipated, and after walking around through the nearby farmer's market. When I came back, I had the syringes with specialty tips ready to go. The pricing was also amazing compared to what I would have paid at the vet (specialty neurologist), something like 1/5 of the price! I still haven't found anyone that can fill them at the price and quality that CAP was able to. read more

If you want to be treated like a person not a number go to C.A.P. Most of the employees there have worked there 5+yrs and know your name and have your order ready before you get to the counter. Never wait in long lines, or for 5hrs to get your Rx filled. Special orders- no problem. They also deliver for a small fee. Compounding hormones or your sick cats' meds is another way they are set apart form the chains. Great asset to the peninsula. read more

Do not use this pharmacy. I've put up with them for several years and have finally transferred to an efficient and competent pharmacy elsewhere. Central Avenue Pharmacy never has my prescriptions ready for pickup up when I visit, even if they've texted me beforehand to announce that all is good. I go in, I give my name, and one or two of the prescriptions will either be missing or filled incorrectly. I then wait 20 minutes while the errors are rectified. And, while I'm waiting, I will find that pretty much every other newly arriving customer is about to have the same experience: they come in, cheerfully ask for their prescriptions, and will then either leave empty-handed or wait in line behind me. Central Avenue Pharmacy is amateur hour. They're in a small and semi-remote town, confident that they will maintain a decently-sized clientele who are relatively old and immobile and reluctant to drive ten miles or so to a better pharmacy. The service is therefore abysmal. I am perfectly willing and happy to make the drive elsewhere and will never set foot in this laughably bad store again. read more

I have been coming to this place for just under a year now. My client (I am her caregiver) is 88 and can't remember the name of a different pharmacy or I would have left them long ago. They have a history of incompetence and failure to communicate or do their job correctly. I have been picking up the same 18 pills the entire time with only 1 change in dosage. They have managed to mess up almost everything conceivable, except the wrong pills, one could imagine. I once had a bottle with 4 pills that were a smaller dose included. On SEVERAL occasions they have told me meds were ready to be picked up days in advance, only to be told that a prescription needs to be handed in first, when I arrive in person. This has happened at least 4 times! The doctor has had so many issues with this pharmacy messing up he no longer faxes them and will only write a prescription, meaning when the pharmacy messes this up an hour of driving to Carmel and back must happen before pills are ready. We have been in their med sync program for over 6 months. They have failed to notify me of when pills are ready for pickup, and have failed to sync the meds over those 6 months as well. I ask the names every time I am told something over the phone. The last person I spoke with who told me wildly inaccurate information over the phone was Jennifer, who took no accountability for what she told me and "didn't remember the conversation." Unless there is a really, really good reason DO NOT use this pharmacy if you love the person the meds are for. If you must use them, DO NOT TRUST their judgment or work for a moment. Double check everything they touch! This was originally a 1 star review, but they have been on a continuous uptrend in performance the last couple months, so I am moving it up to 2 stars and hoping they keep the trend going until they hit 3. This place is a mess. My infant son has been on the same prescription for 6 months - a compounded antacid for his reflux. The medicine lasts for 2 weeks, and then has to be refilled. So, I've come here for his medication probably 12 times - and probably 10 of those times, there has been an issue. Either I called too soon for a refill and the computer wouldn't process it (even though they need 72 hours for compounding), or I called too late, and they can't do it. They put me on auto-refill to fix that issue, and now this: twice now, the prescription "expires" and instead of calling me, they faxed the doctor's office, and only told me they didn't hear back when I came in person to pick up the medication, which meant another delay. This is the one of the only compounding pharmacies on the Peninsula - what a shame. I am no longer a customer. read more

As a caregiver, I am responsible for the meds my people take. This was our first time using this pharmacy and the prescription was not ready and had been returned to stock, even though I had only received a call on Friday at 3:30. The posted policy says you have 10 days to pick up meds or they will be returned to stock. We were there the next Wednesday. They did redo the prescription and we waited almost 15 minutes for it. The pharmacists are friendly,accurate and "ON IT" as far as getting your prescription personalized and filled!! Horrible customer service, and they never have prescription ready for pick up when they commit to a time. Their attitude seems very uncaring - the pharmacy tech I had today stopped and answered the phone and took a new prescription while he was searching for my prescription (that should have, but hadn't, been filled yet)! Finally, one half hour later it was filled, then I had to wait another 15 minutes to get it, again, because of the pharmacy tech having to answer phone calls and tell other customers their prescriptions would be ready in an hour. IMO - your are much better off with the larger chains, at least they generally have prescriptions ready when they commit to it. Seriously, the prescription was for a post-operation antibiotic, they didn't care at all. read more

This is the first time I've ever reviewed a business on yelp. They cannot be counted on!!! I have used this pharmacy for a compounded Rx for a over a year. My rx is mailed to me. Their voicemail says give them 3 working days if rx is compounded. I order early as well as account for mailing time so I won't run out. I am now, again, over a week waiting and off my meds. This seems to be common with them. I would not recommend this business and have ordered my last rx thru them. read more

This is a small, neighborhood pharmacy. They get to know their customers and always take the time to answer questions. Recently our insurance policy changed, and now we have such a high deductible that we have to pay for all of our medications out of pocket. I was afraid that would mean we'd have to start getting our meds at Costco, RiteAid or CVS--or even a mail order pharmacy to keep costs down. I did the research, though, and checked prices for the meds we use at other pharmacies. No one works harder to get us the best price, help cash in on coupons, etc. And the pharmacists give excellent advice, too. I'm glad we get to keep using CAP! read more

I had been struggling with administering a feline syringe delivered oil-based liquid medication because it would leak from the syringe accessible top that just didn't fit quite right. The child proof cap also made it difficult to open. After mentioning these problems when refilling it, I received the refill with a different blue syringe accessible screw on cap with a cover over the syringe opening; no more child proof cap, no more lost medication, no more mess. And despite being busy, the staff has always been so friendly and courteous that it puts the franchise pharmacy experiences to shame.
