I don't like their sale signs, they are hard to see from a distance. Not like one competitor's that are bright yellow. This makes it harder for me to shop, since I only buy what's on sale. Park on the far right: the lot pitches to the left.

It makes good business sense, as there is a lot of traffic on NY 67 west and NY 50 north, particularly during the evening rush hour. Also, the only other grocery store reasonably convenient was the Price Chopper in the village of Malta, whose motto appears to be "More Roundabouts? Sure!" The store is actually quite aesthetically pleasing. It's well laid out, particularly the produce department. It's brightly lit, and the aisles are easily wide enough for shopping carts going in opposite directions to not interfere with each other. There's a large dining area in the front, with a utensils stand including a microwave. If you're a regular shopper at Hannaford, the organization of the store will feel familiar, except for the beer aisle being closer to the produce/pharmacy departments. It was well stocked and clean, though that's understandable, as it's only been open 6 days as of this review. A few nits: Disappointed that they don't have a hot air hand dryer in the men's room... the salad bar containers don't have the 4-digit number on them for ease of entry at the self-checkout stands (though the newer self-checkout software does have a nice search facility)... only 3 self-checkouts, and I predict there will be a back-up of customers wanting to use these, especially if any break down (which seems to happen more than it should). Of these, only the last one is likely to bother anyone. I'm certainly glad to see a Hannaford here, as opposed to what might have otherwise gone in.

My only gripe -- and it's a biggie -- is that the prices of everything in the store, including their own brands, are through the roof! Anti fungal creme, dry mouth spray, protein powders, enemas, coffee!, cereal, aluminum foil ... many of the medical instruments with their own brand name ... Did they jack prices to make up for lost revenue on cigarettes? Are town/county property tax too much for them? A recent professionally-managed shopping cart comparison of everyday identical items such as soap, shaving cream, etc. was c. 94 dollars at Walmart and c. 124 dollars at CVS. Dollar stores did fine. Walgreens was worst by a few dollars.

This is the second time in 3 months that they were out of stock on a popular mainstream medication. I got a message on my answering machine 11/10 or regarding my prescription and returned that call on 11/15 (I was on vacation). I asked if the script was ready for pickup and was told it was out of stock. I grumbled a bit and the story changed; now it IS in stock but cannot be filled until 11/21 (not a Walgreen issue, insurance rules). Then I was asked, despite my call asking if the script is ready to be picked up, if I would like it filled. I was tempted to ask the staffer why else would I ask if it were ready for pickup, but I was not in the mood for a lecture from the pharmacist about how fragile the feelings of her staff are. As far as impending store closing goes, I can think of no other reason for repeated, frequent and regular out of stock issues than dwindling sales causing corporate managers to reduce inventory levels as they decide what to do with the store. Given the level of inconvenience suffered by customers, the reason behind such a situation, if it does exist, is clear.
