I really despise spending over 7 dollars on some salad I could have just made at home with better ingredients, but at Cutty's, I dream about this salad with it's slivers of gouda cheese and sprinkling of crispy shallots. The hype is real. I came here this morning (Tuesday) around 11:30, and there were only one or two people in line. The place is clean, modern, and feels very vibrant. As per everyone's suggestions, I ordered the Roast Beef 1000 and boy am I glad I got it. It now ranks as one of the top 10 sandwiches I've ever had in my life. The brioche bun is the perfect bread to go with this sandwich - it's lightly crispy on the outside and absorbs the perfect amount of sauce (dry buns are the worst...). The meat itself is flavorful and tender, but the 1000 island sauce is the true winner here. So amazingly flavorful. Oh, and for those of you who come in with different expectations, the Roast Beef 1000 is a cold sandwich, though the bun felt warm when I unwrapped it. Contrary to what many other people have stated, the Roast Beef 1000 is perfectly portioned - for comparison, it's roughly the same size as an In-N-Out burger, maybe even a tad larger. It'll leave you satisfied, but not stuffed to the point where you're bloated and regret everything you just ate. Love that this place is just 15 seconds away from the 66 bus stop - makes coming back here a whole lot easier. I'll be back to try the Spuckie and the Greens Bacon next! I've got one sitting in front of me as I type this: served on a sesame seed roll coated with spiced mayo and topped off with a generous helping of cilantro and pickled red onions (the brightness of which play nicely with the mellow savoriness of the pork, which is right up there with any pulled BBQ foodstuffs I've ever consumed), this sandwich is truly a weekday revelation. My favorite is the beef sandwich and definitely try and go on Super Cluckin Sunday- it's a dedicated day to fried chicken sandwiches.They are delicious, if it is super cluckin Sunday the only thing you get is fried chicken sandwiches - nothing else on their menu is available that day. The first time I came here I was like whaaaaat, we're going all the way to Brookline Village on Saturday for a SANDWICH? And then I was like what the ef is fennel? Do I want this fennel stuff on a sandwich? But all of my friends were doing it, so I got the pork fennel. My mind = blown. Fennel is awesome. The pork was delicious. The bread was so soft and so crisp at the same time. Loved it. The space isn't very big and it is usually busy when I've gone. Ingredients seem super fresh and are from around New England. Not cheap but not expensive either. The housemade potato chips are tasty. The limeade is OUT OF THIS WORLD. (note that I consider myself a connoisseur of limeade) Bummer that the pork fennel is only available on the weekends. On weekdays my go-to is the greens bacon (swiss chard with bacon). Winner, winner chicken dinner! The infamous chicken sandwich was a good Sunday morning treat but I would have enjoyed it more had it been hot. The sandwich is served essentially at room temp given several of the sandwiches are ready made to service the crowd. The chicken itself is nicely crisp and juicy along with the bed of shredded iceberg lettuce dressed with bbq and aioli. The hand pies featured were cinnamon apple. I was weary of purchasing given they looked burnt and were nearly $5 a pop but I went against my better judgement and made a purchase anyways. The apple turnover had a few thin slices of apples which were nicely seasoned with spices. Good but not really worth the price and size. Let alone some of the hand pies looked much smaller than others... Handmade quality issues perhaps. Nested in the lovely and somewhat quaint Brookline Village, Cutty's is a breathe of fresh air when it comes to sandwich shops - offering daily specials alongside a creative, limited but perfectly executed menu, they hit the mark and set a standard that few can reach. Whether you are bitting into their famous spuckie (salami. capicola, mortadella, mozzarella and olive-carrot salad on ciabatta) or maybe their delicious roast beef 1000 (slow-roasted beef, shallots, 1000 island dressing, sharp cheddar on brioche) or any of their other ones, each is affordable and delicious. Most are under $8 and a few can be purchased in half size for around $4. They are made to order for the most part and all of their ingredients just worked. In a nutshell they service creative, tasty and affordable food. But it doesn't stop at sandwich. No, no, no, there's more here folks. There's also the various soups and salads and if you're feeling creative you can also customize/create your own sandwich. Oh and did I mention the numerous treats (try their Taza brownie - it's to die for) and their amazing drinks (their limeade is awesome - their Arnold Palmer is decent but could use a bit of work). All in all this place rocks and has a lot more than meets the eye. It's very discreetly located and one could easily walk by it numerous times without ever noticing it. They also have a breakfast menu which I have yet to try but which features a delicious-sounding breakfast sandwich. I was really looking forward to this place after seeing it on Yelp. My boyfriend's favorite food ever is a chicken sandwich and they look amazing here, but they only offer them on Sundays. Instead, he got the roast beef which wasn't anything spectacular and I got the Eggplant Spackie, which was good but not great. The homemade chips are pretty bad- too thin, over-fried and not well seasoned. The tomato soup was good (bf thought it was amazing), but again, nothing to write home about. Still, this place was quite crowded and it was hard finding a seat, so I guess people really do like this place. For me though, one visit was fine and I give it a C+/B-. The staff were very friendly and helpful although there was a line out the door. My favorite sandwich was Roast Beef 1000 that melted in your mouth and for $.85 cents you can have pickled hots which adds a yummy kick to your sandwich. My friend tried both the pork sandwiches; the one with fennel had flavor that was solid and super fresh. I'd recommend either of these sandwiches. The other pork has broccoli rabe which adds a sour taste that many may like, but I tend stick to sweeter tastes. Overall, I'd bring friends back here, which is a plus spot in my book. read more

Dear really sophisticated sounding but nice lady who worked behind the cash register at this place, First, I wanted to say that I think you can offer some of the tastiest sandwiches in this nice and quiet community. I had a Pork Rabe Sandwich and I thought it was excellent. I really liked the tender pork, the flavor and smell of the garlic seasoned broccoli, combined with the toasty and chewy roll. It's definitely one of the tastiest pork sandwiches I have eaten. The potato chips are a great complement, and had this unique flavor and taste as if you are eating homemade potato chips. However, the chicken sandwich you made here during the "Super Clucking Sunday" period was a different story... I had an amazing eating experience. Although many people might dismiss what I said as a hyperbole or a gross exaggeration, I will try to be as truthful as I can about the chicken sandwich. I really liked the crispy and crunchy texture of the fried chicken on the outside and the nice and fresh juicy tenderness on the inside. The crunchiness and flavor of the fried chicken was really good, it brought back a good memory of eating the almost perfect fried chicken. The flavor of the honey mustard, the creaminess of the mayonnaise, and the chewiness of the bun made this an almost flawless chicken sandwich. This sandwich was so good that one of my friends who was with me had a really euphoric reaction after the first bite of the sandwich. She was really that happy. I really wish that you can make those chicken sandwiches often, even though you can only offer them once a month on a Sunday. I seriously think this place can make a lot of money if you continue to make these chicken sandwiches and this place might be a legitimate threat to serve the best fried chicken sandwich in Massachusetts. I'm sure more than a few other people tried this sandwich shop after looking at the beautiful cover and sandwich of the roast beef 1000 after seeing it on Boston magazine cover. To me it just wasn't that good, I don't know if the sandwiches are supposed to be cold or warm mines was cold and I felt was pretty flavorless. Bread cheese and I don't know what type of spread they use if it's mayonnaise spice book something or not was very good but the meat was just nothing, The good thing is we were lucky enough to drop in on a Saturday not knowing that this is the day they have a few specialty sandwiches. We ordered the pork rabe, I split the sandwich with my friend we didn't even finish the roast beef we both thought it was just bland. The pork sandwich however was delicious I love the bread and Rabe, I'm not sure what rabe is but I have I like it and I feel I've been missing out on these years I've never tried it before. Hipster sandwich joint, FTW! I tried the ham pimento (ham, pimento cheese spread and sweet pickles on a baguette) and it was delicious. They asked if I'd like it hot pressed and I said yes please! The pickles (of which I am usually not a fan) had the perfect vinegary-tang that complimented the sandwich. I'd recommend skipping out on the homemade kettle chips: they were pretty greasy and not too crispy. The line on a Saturday afternoon was outrageous, so I'd also recommend getting your sandwich goodies to go. They have a little refrigerator of their ingredients and spreads to sell to go, such as the pimento cheese and pickled beets. MUST TRY!!!! I found this place through Triple D and it turns out it's only a 5 minute walk from my apartment! Talk about missing out on good things right in front of you, BUT I am glad that I will have a few more years in Boston to enjoy this awesome joint in Brookline. This place is usually pretty busy during lunch hours and they are not open during dinner. Instead of waiting you can just call in a pick-up order and skip the whole waiting in line business because I don't think anyone enjoys that. Cutty's has pretty limited seating so I normally just get my food to go since it can get fairly cramped inside. You should definitely try their Spuckie! Out of all the other sandwiches I've had there this is the most unique tasting one and everything just blends together nicely in your mouth. What I also love is how they tell you where they get EVERY one of their ingredients and not surprisingly, they get most of them from local places around Massachusetts, which I fully support! They also have daily specials that you can find on their website/twitter account or if you walk in to order. Hands down, 5 stars. Absolutely lust-worthy sandwiches. For years I've griped and moaned about this state's horrible inability to make a decent sandwich. This all changed last Friday.. which to my complete joy, was Banh Mi day. I walked in with a plan of "Spuckie and Roast Beef 1000" - yeah, two sandwiches, one lunch. Well.. the Banh Mi overwhelmed my brain and replaced the Spuckie. And oh my. I've been to Vietnam and somehow missed the brilliancy that is Banh Mi (was too obsessed with spring rolls and noodles).. but I have now redeemed myself. Granted, the airy, crusty, amazing Iggy's bread is not quite "french" - I could live off of that stuff, so it made this sandwich better than I could have hoped. Its not a giant, sloppy, drippy sandwich. It's neat, its clean, and it is mind-blowing delicious. The pork, sauces, veggies, all meld perfectly. The bread contains everything while adding its own culinary delight. I could not stop eating this sandwich - except for taking breaks to dive into the Roast Beef 1000. An sandwich with "1000" in the name. How can you not want that? Oh, and its house-roasted beef, on a grilled brioche bun, with crispy fried shallots, sharp cheddar, and flippin *homemade* 1000 island dressing. This is not your typical roast beef sandwich. The flavors that come together with each bite make you picture that scene in Ratatouille, when he's trying to describe to his brother what is so great about food.. blah blah blah. Decided to try them back to back with their weekend specials. Saturday was slow pork with fennel. They didn't have the usual buns they go on so they put it instead on ciabatta. Definitely well balanced, but be sure to get the tomato soup with it if your a fan of tomato soup, and dip away! Super cluckin Sunday appears to be once a month based on their Twitter posts. This sandwich was awesome (I got it with hots), great balance of buttery, ranch, BBQ. That day they had strawberry vanilla handpies, which were also pretty amazing balance of sweet and tart. They are a little on the expensive side for what you get. super cluckin sunday, which was a sandwich, handpie (about the size of a taco Bell empanada), and a small ice tea (really small, was I think 8 oz) totaled to about $20. Oh well, they don't make claims to be a cheap meal, and I would hope then their employees get paid well. If you're in the mood for a fancy pants sandwich bursting with flavor, then go to Cutty's. I'm excited to try more sandwiches but the 2 visits have thus rendered a repeated order of the spicy pork torta. DELICIOUS. The bread is well toasted (somewhat painful to bite into at times but no matter, it's so good). The meat is tender and flavorful; the cilantro and sauce and pickled onions all combine to one helluva sandwich. There is definitely a kick to it but not unbearable. I've heard great things about their chicken days and I will one day enjoy this wondrous event. Everything is locally purchased which is another plus. Really special sandwiches. High quality ingredients and great flavor combinations allows Cutty's to live up to the hype. Normally I don't like to indulge at lunch time but for Cutty's I'll make the exception. Had the pork fennel Saturday special and it was outrageously good. The fennel had a great Asian inspired marinade and was fresh and crispy. The perfect pairing to go with the tender meaty pork. On a fantastic Iggy's roll, this sandwich could do no wrong. We also had the pressed spuckie which was almost as great. If you like olives at all, the spuckie will blow your socks off. Prices are high for sandwiches, but these are complex and worth every penny. Luckily we arrived at 2:30 PM and were able to easily snag a table on a Saturday, but I wonder if I came any time before would I be eating on the sidewalk? There also seems to be no order to snagging a table so you're pretty much SOL if you come and it's packed. Are the sandwiches worth eating standing up outside? Probably. I always wake up on sundays and dream about hitting this place for some reason after my morning ride. And then depression immediately follows as I emember, damn it, they're closed on Sundays. Finally made the drive on a bastardly hot Tuesday. Pleasantly cool in side it was. A sucker for red meat i was unable to resist the Roast Beef 1000. For a brief moment, I thought I might be transported to the future to be presented with a hip new version of the tried and true roast beast sandwich so popular in beantown. Well, I was wrong. This version uses blood red fresh beef, sliced thin with a soft as butter texture. Crispy roasted shallots, house made thousand island "dressing," it's more like a spread, fresh brioche and a particularly pungent cheddar. Taken singly, this is the most simply procured set of ingredients, but put together, they create a monstrously delicious concoction. The roast beef is wonderous, the brioche light and fluff, the cheese adding a perfect amount of creamy zest. Thousand island dressing In this case ends up being a bit more chunky thany it's Russian sister. The Ham Dijon is a complex mix of ham, dijon, mustard pickles and butter. This is a truly French concoction. Over the course of several summers in Normande, this particular beast brings back memories of fresh baguette, ham and butter. Truly a must have. read more

I have come here pretty regularly for the "super cluckin' Sunday" where they serve a fried chicken sandwich with either honey mustard or BBQ and ranch. It is a bit on the pricey side and the line can get crazy long, so it's hard to judge if it is really worth it. But I go because it is hard to find fried chicken around here that isn't frozen chicken fingers. The chicken is crunchy as long as you get to it quick enough. The time I brought it all the way home it had absorbed the sauce and became a bit mushy. The chicken is moist and has never been tough like tenders can get. Both types are a bit on the sweet side, so I might order easy on the sauce next time. I have also had the benedict breakfast sandwich, which again, was a bit pricey for the size of the sandwich, but was very tasty. I just wish they would do eggs cooked to order rather than just the scrambled. There is a good selection here and the people are friendly, but the hours are rather short as they close pretty early. The fried chicken was perfectly fried, and the ratio between the crunchiness and the chicken itself was perfectly done. I've only been here for the Super cluckin' Sunday twice and damn the sandwiches are so good. I've tried both honey mustard and bbq ranch. Personally, I am not a fan of bbq flavor but I gave it a try after reading about it from so many reviews. I must say bbq ranch wins! With the pickled hots, it tastes even better and spicier. It may seem slightly odd to have chicken sandwich early Sunday morning but its a good hangover cure spot after Saturday night adventures :P The line starts earlier than their opening time (10am). Cutty's is my go to weekend casual lunch spot. There's often a wait for seating but it is well worth it - especially with the added breadboard bakery options on the weekend. I've had quite a few options here - the weekend pork special, the turkey sandwich with the fried shallots, grilled cheese and tomato soup. All were delicious. I called the store since there was no Apple Pay option online when I was trying to order (I've used Apple Pay many times at Cuttys online.) The women who answered the phone was so rude right from the start. I know some people have bad days but as a customer with a simple question, she was being so rude and sarcastic. She responded to my comments with so much attitude I didn't even bother asking her further questions. I figured out the Apple Pay issue by myself. Order on the Safari app not the Google App. Cuttys, I loveeee your food but please train your workers to be more respectful and to answer simple questions like this. read more

It amazes me that anyone would give Cutty's a less than 5 star review. I just want to ask are they okay??? When I first heard of Cutty's I kept hearing rave things about it and I couldn't help but wonder "How good could a sandwich possibly be???" Needless to say I was not disappointed. I got the Roast Beef 1000 (Slow-roasted beef, crispy shallots, 1000 island, sharp cheddar, brioche), which I would highly recommend! The roast beef was so juicy and tender, and the cheddar cheese added a lovely sharp contrast to the tenderness of the beef. The crispy shallots added a nice crunch to the sandwich, and the brioche bread was fresh and perfectly toasted. My friend got the Ham and Pimento sandwich (Niman Ranch ham, pimento cheese spread, sweet pickles, baguette) which I got to sneak a bite out of and that one was delicious as well - had a great depth of flavor and the ham was super delicious. I've been here a couple of times since then and whether I've gotten the food via takeout or eaten in the establishment, it's always tasted delicious and it has never let me down once. The staff are always pleasant and sweet, and the food has always come out in a timely manner even when the store was busy. The space is clean and comfortable.
