I went there for lunch with my mom and while I won't call her a picky eater, she's also not super-adventurous in terms of food. The menu was limited and therefore was a bit of a challenge for her (she settled on grilled cheese). I had the roast beef sandwich with russian dressing on a pepper brioche bun. Flavor & freshness were great (especially the bun!) but I found 4 pieces of string in my sandwich. It's great that they roast the beef in house, but if you're doing your own prep, there's no excuse for strings in the meat. Finally, to drink we both had limeade which was well balanced in terms of sweetness, tartness and acidity. They're new so I'm hoping that they fine-tune the edges. I will go back but plan to give it a month or two in the hopes that they work out some of the kinks. read more

This new neighborhood joint just keeps getting better and better. I used to come in for that wonderful little spuckie, but then when my family and I had lunch there yesterday, I accidentally ordered the roast beef sandwich, and I have never has such a delicious roast beef sandwich. Not even Grandma's can compare. The bread was just sweet enough, the roast was thin and tender, and the cheese fell in nicely, but what really made the whole thing was the little something extra added with the condiments. My mom, after seeing my sandwich, went up to order one herself it looked so appetizing. Go check it out! Also, the roasted fruit in the plain yogurt, along with the watermelon and lime popsicle made my day. They certainly know how to arrange a menu with the weather in mind. Cutty's: a Brookline hidden jewel tucked into Brookline Village. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Highly recommend their Saturday only fare: the pork rabe sandwich is out of this world. Thinly sliced, slow roasted pork dressed with bitter, garlicky broccoli rabe? Yes please. I think we've been here 3 or 4 times, and at each, the same charming woman has waited on us at the counter (she once even gave us several complementary cookies with our order). She too comes highly recommended (I kid, but seriously). A word of warning: their hours are a little limited (closed on weekdays by the time the average professional returns from work; closed on Sundays), so suggest dropping by on Saturday. Stupidly waited until today to visit Cutty's for the first time. Why did I stupidly deny myself a treck out to Brookline Village for honestly the best lunch I've had in many moons. Roast Beef 1000 is beyond perfect. Great fillings and bread. The layers of flavor and texture are like no other sandwiches. You you order chips, you don't get a bag of Lays, these are house fried potato chips - awesome. And make sure to save room for the brown sugar cookies. Place has great low key vibe entire wall to right of entry lists all local farms and purveyors all their products are sources through. There is no junk served here. Super Cluckin' Sunday is the highlight of my whole month and when I have the pleasure of working from home I'll bounce between the Roast Beef 1000 and my new favorite the Spuckie. I think my only gripe with Cutty's is they are not open for dinner! Like what the hell?! First time coming to this place for me was for their Super Cluckin' Sunday chicken sandwich special. I'd seen Cutty's featured on Food Network with Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, and with it being right near me, I had to try it out. The place didn't look like much on the outside, but it was impossible not to miss the huge line of people going out the door. Needless to say, I was definitely excited to try out their buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, and 45 min was more than worth the wait. Best chicken sandwich I've ever had--the texture was perfection (crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked and tender on the inside), it was well-seasoned, and the honey mustard, lettuce, and onions weren't too overpowering, which allowed the chicken to be the star. I got their housemade potato chips as well, which may have been a tad bit too salty, but that definitely didn't take away from the overall quality of the meal. It seemed to be on the pricey side, but it was clear they take pride in all the ingredients they use, and I will definitely be going back at some point to try some of the other sandwich options, which aren't as expensive as the Sunday Special. There are a few tables to sit down and eat inside, and there's also some nearby picnic tables across the street on Holden St. nearby. 100% recommend going here if you're in the area! read more

My eagerly awaited trip to Cutty's ended in abject disappointment. Specifically, I went with the single-minded purpose of trying their pulled pork sandwich, which has earned praise from the Boston Globe and the Yelp community. First off, they don't serve a pulled pork sandwich. What they call a pulled pork sandwich is actually comprised of sliced pork. Moreover, the sandwich is served cold and dry (i.e. sans sauce). Even after overcoming my disappointment in their advertising, I found the sandwich to be bland, the pork dry, and the entire experience forgetful. The same goes for their potato chips, which lacked any seasoning whatsoever. Factor in the exorbitant cost, and my lunch was one big dud. The three other diners in my party felt the exact same way. I cannot recommend Cutty's when I can recommend at least a dozen other establishments that offer twice the quality and flavor at half the price. While I like the idea of a sandwich place cooking everything in-house, it means nothing to me if the result is bland, uninspired food. read more

I have come here a lot with coworkers over the past few weeks, and I'm so upset that I didn't find it while I lived in Brookline. I have gotten the swiss chard and bacon one a number of times, and love it. So creative, such good crispy + soft textures. It's huge, so it's lunch and dinner, and I'm always happy to have a double Cutty's day. But today the special blew me away. Smoked turkey and cumin beets on a sunflower roll - absurdly delicious. Not only that, someone in my group asked for a Spukie with some modifications that were a little inhibitive, and they called me right away to see if there was anything else they could do to make sure the sandwich was going to be exactly what they wanted. Growing up outside of NYC, I've sampled some great sandwiches at a variety of NYC delis; however, one of the most delicious sandwich experiences I've had is at a small shop nestled in the heart of Brookline. Cutty's isn't your typical deli; there are some interesting takes on classic sandwiches. I had the Roast Beef 1000 with shallots, thousand island dressing and cheddar. Wow, what a sandwich. The perfection of the meat blended with the cheese and the slightly sweet and spicy kick of the shallots allowed the sandwich to melt in my mouth. My only complaint is that some of Cutty's sandwiches are small, so I almost cried when I was done with my sandwich - it was that good. I would also recommend the pork fennel sandwich, which is only served on Saturdays. Normally I wouldn't order something like that, but I heard it was a specialty, so I had a few bites of my boyfriend's sandwich. Definitely going to order that next time! I was advised by the cashier the most popular sandwich was the roast beef. She advised on the special as we'll. I got roast beef melt with spicy mayo special!!! It was not good at all. They gave me dried out brown roast beef the was mayo was non existent. The only thing I could say was good was the bread. Nothing what I expect after getting roast beast!! So I will stick with them. OK, I went up a star for two reasons: 1. I have learned well the art of the pre-order. 2. The seasonal knife and fork grilled cheese sandwich, which is seriously some kind of alchemy on a plate (or rather, in a takeout box). Had been hearing great things about Cutty's since I moved to Brookline nearly three years ago. Finally made my way there for lunch today. I got the Turkey 1000 and the sandwich was delicious. High quality deli meat, excellent flavor combinations. Couldn't give 5 stars bc the menu was a bit shorter than I'd hoped for a sandwich shop. We found this place after seeing it on the Food Network while getting ready for a wedding in a Maryland hotel room. We made a mental note to check this place out when we returned to Boston. I admit I was a little skeptical as I am not a fan of Guy what's his name BUT one bite of my sandwich and I was hooked! I am not a big eggplant fan but when the cashier described how the eggplant was prepared (thinly sliced and grilled with olive oil), I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. It was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a while! The other best sandwich I had? Was my wife's! She ordered the bacon greens and the bacon smelled so good that I couldn't resist a bite. (Don't judge me). Vegetarianism be damned because that bacon greens sandwich is exceptional! The swiss chard on the bacon Greens was cooked perfectly and the spicy sauce was just right! my sandwich was grilled (highly recommended) with mozzarella and carrot-olive salad on top. I was impressed with how balanced the sandwiches were- not too much or too little of anything. Our sandwiches averaged about $8 and was a good deal particularly considering the quality of ingredients.by the way, they list all of their ingredients and where they came from on a wall. I enjoyed reading where everything came from; I even looked up the bacon (NH). Anyway, we finished our meal with some of Cutty's delicious limeade and two cookies: one chocolate chunk and the other a brown sugar cookie. Limeade was cold and tasty- not too sweet. The cookies were buttery (but not too much) and soft. So good! The restaurant is small and the place was packed when we arrived. We grabbed a recently opened table near the door. It was 95 the day we went so we were disappointed that the AC wasn't on for whatever reason. The heat, however, didn't stop us from eating and enjoying our meals so Cutty's still earned the five stars from me. We are already talking about what we'll try on our next visit! read more

I was out and about prior to Christmas trying to get some last minute shopping done, and needed to grab lunch somewhere in Brookline Village. I whip out my phone, and with the help of my Yelp app (I sound like an advert, don't I?) I prepared myself to be blown away by the legendary Roast Beef 1000. First off, I was a cranky pants because it was one of the few blustery days we've had this winter so far, and at around 2 PM every single seat in the restaurant was taken. I was hoping during my wait in line that something would free up, and I gave a pleading eye to some folks who were done eating and sitting around chatting, but no luck. Then comes the curse of the solitary diner, as I watched a family walk in behind me and have one person wait in line while the others swooped down like hawks on the one table that freed up. Sad face. So I gets my Roast Beef 1000 and go outside to sit on a bench to eat it. The cheddar is obviously of high quality, and the crispy shallots are mighty tasty. But the whole sandwich is kinda lukewarm, which wasn't what I was expecting. I'm sitting out on a bench next to an overflowing garbage can, by my lonesome, freezing my butt off, eating a small, lukewarm, eight dollar sandwich- it was truly pathetic. So maybe you're thinking, well, if you had a seat indoors you would have been a bit happier with your experience. But really, the deciding factor was that partway through my sandwich, all I could think about was how nice it would have been to be sinking my teeth into a big, hot, sloppy, juicy, reasonably priced roast beef sandwich from Roast Beast over in Allston. I like your devotion to things local/seasonal, Cutty's, and for that maybe I'll make a return trip and try something different, like that spuckie that folks have been talking about, but for roast beef, Roast Beast is still #1 in my book. read more

Sandwiches are possibly worth trying if you're in the area, but if you have a relatively healthy appetite (like myself) one sandwich will not be enough for you. I was excited to hear and read about this place coming to Boston and after yesterday's post on Serious Eats, I went to try it with my husband. I ordered the Spuckie, while my husband ordered the Roast Beef and we split both. The Roast Beef was very good and reminiscent of the toppings on the Radius burger. The Spuckie on the other hand for me, was just ok. My husband has quite the appetite and said he had a hard time eating his half and would never order the Spuckie again. The shredded carrots on the sandwich were a bit distracting and they were quite stingy on the Italian cold cuts. I thought it was a bit pricey ($7.95) given the quantity of meat. The ciabatta was also a bit dry and cardboardy (not sure that's a word... lol). We also ordered the potato chips and rice krispie treat. The potato chips were very underwhelming. They weren't really seasoned. They were also very thin and a bit on the burnt side. The rice krispie treat was nothing special, just your basic rice krispie treat. I used to live in Chicago and miss Hannah's Bretzel. I think Cutty's doesn't even compare. Hannah's made their own potato chips and they were so good! If I went back to Cutty's, I'd probably only get the Roast Beef unlike Hannah's where I'd get something different all the time because everything was good. read more

I was super excited that I would be in town for the monthly fried chicken sandwiches. If the chicken sandwich was really good I wouldn't have minded the hour wait in the cold and high prices. Unfortunately it was not worth it at all. The chicken was fine. But the sauces made it soggy and trying both the honey mustard and bbq ranch sandwiches, the sauces just didn't work for me. I like the chicken to be the star of the show. Overall it was a pretty mediocre sandwich. If you're only making these once a month you're going to have to do better than that! The Chick'n Shack sandwich is better IMO and half the price! read more

I had been looking forward to a Cutty's sandwich for a long time, and was definitely underwhelmed when I finally had the opportunity. I ordered the egg salad sandwich on wheat and it was disappointing. The consistency of the eggs was nice -- chunky and creamy -- but bland. The diced olives added much needed flavor, but there was part of an olive pit (or some other incredibly hard UFO) hidden in the mix. I'm thankful I didn't chip a tooth on it. Finally, I would say that the size of the sandwich was meager, given the price charged. I'm willing to go back and try another of their sandwich specialties, but I'm unlikely to go out of my way to do so. read more

My brother took me here for lunch one day since it was on our way home... kind of. I've been back a couple of times for lunch since then. The space is tight, since it's more of a take-out place, but I never had an issue getting a table during the week. The freshness of the ingredients really comes through in the flavor of the sandwiches. I really like that they list where all their ingredients come from since most of it's local. We always start out with the tomato soup which is very nice on a cold day. I keep telling myself that I will just have half the sandwich and take the other half home, but I just cant stop myself from finishing it there. I love the greens bacon sandwich... put bacon on anything and I will eat it, but the spicy mayo brings so much flavor to it. I have also tried the Roast Beef 1000 and the Spukie which were equally yummy! The sandwiches are made perfectly not overstuffed, but perfectly proportioned ingredients in every bite! read more

Don't really understand what the fuss is about. It's a sandwich place, the sandwiches are fine, the prices are high for what you get, and it is very cramped and somewhat uncomfortable. Plus it's Brookline so you have to discount the reviews by at least 10% to adjust for hyperbole. Also Fieri factor means another 20% discount, so two stars seems about right. Of course if "OMG" is how you start every sentence then it's at least 6 stars, so take it for what it's worth. I don't think 2 stars is bad for what is basically a sandwich shop. read more

Maybe you should think about what your attitude does for business before yelling at someone outside the shop.
