I'm disenchanted with this store. I purchased $700 worth of lighting fixtures here a year ago for…read moremy kitchen renovation. The manager is the nicest guy you will ever meet. All was well until the lighting units began to short out after less than a year. The sockets were burning out because the factory-supplied halogen bulbs get too hot. This is a design defect, I'm not blaming the store, although they denied knowing about any such problem with these units. When I ordered the needed replacement parts from Manhattan Lighting, the manager charged my credit card immediately, but did not tell me that he only places an order with this distributor once a month. So, weeks went by, and wondering what was going on, I called, and then the store manager admitted that my order was not submitted because he needed to accrue $12,000 worth of orders to get his desired price-break discount, and mine was only the first. Frustrated, I found an online supplier (Lumens.com), and did a "live chat". While putting me on hold for one minute, the associate phoned the manufacturer directly, then had the parts delivered to me within a week (for $32 each vs. $43 each that ML charged me). This is a perfect example of why internet shopping is putting brick-and-mortar stores out of business. Now that I no longer need them, my replacement parts finally arrived at Manhattan Lighting seven weeks after I ordered them. Lame, misleading customer service, and, for me, the price of an education.

If you have looked for lighting in central NJ you know we lack the national chains. We have a bunch of mom & pops and of course the big box stores. They are terrible. We stumbled into Manhattan Lighting today and found the perfect fixture for our kitchen and as a bonus a new dining room pendant light. We walked in and had immediate assistance to sort through a large selection. The salesroom is jammed and cluttered with tons of product so be prepared to spend some serious time. In the end we found two very cool fixtures. We got what we thought was a decent price. When I got home I searched online for the exact products we bought and sure enough, we received an excellent deal. I guess I am the first to review. This place is definitely worth a visit if you want contemporary lighting. Install is next week. If we have any issues I will update. Recommended.

Called 7/16 Mike said he would look into the status & would call back. Never got a call back. On 7/17/26 I called & was told they had a tracking #. Would be sent to our email. Today 7/20 made contact for status. Now was told that the product was broken & they no longer have it in stock. It's out of stock so now I would have to pay more plus shipping since they have to go straight to the manufacturer. Switch & bait style to make the consumer pay more. They should nip it & honor there price regardless. Also, customer service line takes 24 to 48hrs to return a call.

I immediately contacted AFA about the smears and they wanted to send a tech to "fix" it. As if the smears could be "fixed." The only way to "fix" it would be to sand the top and revarnish it. Apparently they are in China, so when you send an email, it takes at least a couple of days for someone to respond. I received the defective desk ten days ago and was getting nowhere with AFA's lousy customer support, so I disputed the charge. Initially AFA acknowledged the defective workmanship, but after I disputed the charge AFA tried to say the smears were an "intentional part of the finish." I had sent photos of the defect and the person at the bank handling the dispute said she could clearly tell they aren't "intentional." These people are dishonest, you can't trust their online photos and if you receive defective furniture, good luck. I will never buy anything from AFA again.

Mike came to quote me for adding a Tesla charger etc to my garage. Very rude from the get-go. I was…read morepeppered with questions, but he didn't seem to listen to the answers, came across as arrogant, and interrupted constantly. Worst of all though was that he didn't seem to have a full grasp of the relevant electrical code, despite supposedly himself being an inspector, and clearly hadn't read the Tesla charger installation manual (see attached picture). He said he would install #6 romex wire (no conduit) as he has done in many other installations. But romex wire is only rated for a 60°C temperatures (not 90°C like say THWN-2 wire). The tesla installation manual on page 5 states "If installing for maximum power, use minimum 6 AWG, 90° C-rated copper wire for conductors. NOTE: Upsize conductors if necessary" https://www.tesla.com/sites/default/files/support/charging/Gen3_WallConnector_Installation_Manual.pdf Supposedly Mike has gone through Tesla's training for installing the wall charger. I guess he wasn't listening in that class. When I pointed out the minimum #6 wire specification from the Tesla manual, he stormed off and left boiling with rage. For those that are interested, the following thread explains why #6 romex is not code compliant for a 48A continuous load like a Tesla Charger: https://forums.mikeholt.com/threads/tesla-charging-station.2561702/post-2709508 Anyone who has had the misfortune of having their tesla charger installed by mike using #6 romex would need to reduce their breaker size to 50A and set their Tesla charger to a lower 40A max charging rate to not exceed the ampacity of the #6 romex. ------- Update following Mike's reply: NEC 240.4b is irrelevant and raising this as a justification for ignoring the instructions in the Tesla Wall Charger installation manual just further highlights Mike's lack of understanding and willingness to accept and correct his mistake. 240.4b relates to the breakers (OCPD). The issue here is not the breakers, it's whether the wire connected to the breakers is rated to pass a CONTINUOUS current of 48 amps (the max charging rate of the Tesla charger). NEC 210.19 Conductors-Minimum Ampacity and Size is key here and says: "The conductor ampacity may require other correction or adjustment factors applicable to the conductor installation. a.Where a branch circuit supplies *continuous* loads or any combination of continuous and noncontinuous loads, the minimum branch-circuit conductor size shall have an allowable ampacity not less than the noncontinuous load plus *125% of the continuous load*." Perhaps Mike does not realize that a Tesla charger is treated in code as a continuous load and therefore requires a 125% adjustment factor in the current? If the continuous load is 48A, then 125% of the continuous load is 60A. By Mike's own admission below, #6 Romex is only rated for 55A, not 60A, so it's too low of a specification. Putting a 55A capable wire on a 60A breaker, doesn't magically make the wire able to handle more continuous current. Sure you can save a few bucks by installing #6 Romex instead of #6 THWN within conduit, or even #4 Romex, but doesn't meet the requirements of Tesla and it doesn't meet code. Here's NEC 210.19 for anyone interested https://www.productinfo.schneider-electric.com/na-std-ref/5c0fee4b347bdf0001de4d55/Conductor%20Ampacity%20Tables/English/Data%20Bulletin%20-%20Conductor%20Ampacity%20Tables%20(bookmap)_0000264293.ditamap/$/NEC210.19ConductorsMinimumAmpacityA-F20BBAC1
