James builds a great set of clubs! Just had a set of Grand Hawk XP-R's delivered. Got the hybrid iron set. The feel of the clubs and how they hit is so smooth. My friend is a "Brand Only" kind of guy and was shocked by the build quality etc. We met up at the range and he thought I just dropped 800 to a Grand on Callaway Rogue's. Nope!!... These clubs play just as well for my level of skill, and in the hands of a better golfer I think these clubs would match if not exceed what you buy off the rack. Components are the only way to go. If you want your custom golf clubs in a timely manner, don't bother with these guys. It's laughable that they talk about their superior service when you can't even get a response to your emails or phone calls. It's been one month since I placed my order and all I've seen out of this is the charge to my credit card. I wish I could cancel my purchase, but it has been "processing" forever which means you can't make any changes to your order. I thought I purchased early enough to get some practice in with my new clubs prior to my annual 4 day golf outing on Father's Day Weekend. It doesn' look like that's going to happen. I bought my driver 8yrs ago and I broke the shaft shortly after. Finally able to reconnect with James and the driver was covered in their warranty. After the initial conversation, I realized I've been using the wrong irons in general. Just bought a new set and I can't wait to receive them and test them out. Personally, I find the negative reviews about this company quite unreasonable and unfair. In my experience, I've had nothing but positive result....which is why I've returned. Great place, clubs are all high quality and perfect for someone like myself who doesn't golf much but needs to at least look like I have a decent set of clubs and know what I'm doing. Truth be told I don't care enough for the game to go spend over $1,000 on a set of irons but at the same time wanted a good set that I could use for awhile. I'm sure these will last me the rest of my playing days unless I develop a love for the game, I'll be sending my friends to make up for my VERY spaced out club purchases. read more

I will be a custom golf center customer from here on out. It's not just the fact that they customize your club or clubs to fit you, it's the fact that they take the time to take in all factors that you will be dealing with as you play and then give you the set up you need to kick your buddies butts. On top of that Mike was the friendliest man I've ever met and helped me immensely. He set me up with a driver set up that has given me 65 to 75 yards more every drive. I've bought 2 sets of clubs from James at Custom Golf Center in Tempe, AZ and one for my wife. With the second purchase we had several issues with customer service (James didn't return calls or emails) but after a long ordeal we loved the clubs. These clubs were stolen out of the trunk of our car and have tried to reorder the same clubs from Custom Golf Center but after over 3 weeks of calls and emails...... NOTHING. So James and Custom Golf Center is either out of business, dead, hiding, in jail...... who knows but certainly avoids someone wanting to spend money. Avoid this company. This one star rating is actually a negative one star. I would absolutely not buy any golf clubs from this company. I ordered my clubs on 07-11-2014. They charged my credit card $209 on 07-14-2014. It is now 03-17-2015. That's right, 8 months later and I have not received my clubs. I have left dozens of messages for James, and either the phone mail box is full, or he just doesn't want to get back to me. I have sent countless emails and never an answer. STAY AWAY!!!! I have NEVER written a bad review on Yelp but I am making an exception in this case. I ordered a driver a few weeks ago and received an automated email confirming that my order was received, but NOTHING since. I have sent follow up emails with NO response. I have also called several times. Each time I get a recording explaining when the store is open for business but no human being ever answers the phone or returns calls. I paid for the driver with a credit card so now I will have to file a complaint and try to get the charge reversed. Obviously the owner is highly irresponsible and not to be trusted. 3/22/17 UPDATE: I just received an email informing me that my driver was shipped today. I am saddened that I could not get his attention until I posted my experience on Yelp. I do see a pattern, however. Local customers consistently like his work but out of state customers are consistently ignored. I am hopeful that I will like his work too now that he finally shipped my club. My advice to the owner is to treat out of state customers like local customers and build a national following. Out of state customers can refer business too! read more

I ordered a set of irons. The set I received has different club heads than what is shown on the web site. The grips are a different, cheaper brand than what I ordered. There was no packing slip in the box, so I'm not even sure if this was supposed to be my order. Two emailed requests for an explanation have not been answered. read more

I've bought 2 sets of golf clubs from Custom Golf and I had 2 complete opposite reviews. The 1st time I placed an order was about 3 years ago. They, James was very helpful. They called me to discuss the measurements and loft and so on that I submitted. We went over things and confirmed everything. The order shipped out timely and I was and still am very happy with my purchase. My 2nd order was for my son and felt very confident this would be handled in the same way as my previous order. WRONG!!!!!! I specifically asked and noted on my order to give me a call to discuss the particulars before shipping. This did not happen. I called, sent emails, called some more and left messages to please give me a call but NOTHING!. The order did not ship as stated but about a month later and I never received a call. My son received his clubs at college and the #4 Iron is missing. I called my credit card company and had the charges reversed. A week or so later I noticed the charges were back on. During this time I have yet to receive a call from James or anyone else at Custom Golf center. James mail box is always full and nobody has contacted me via email or otherwise. Even with leaving multiple phone numbers to contact me on his pager has resulted in nothing!! The clubs? Yea they seem good but really!?!?!? No service, no contact period! This will be the last order I place with them nor will I suggest to any of my friends to go through them either as I have in the past. read more

I ordered a set of Acer Hybrid irons ( 5 - PW ) from James, my existing Pings came with a hybrid 3 and 4 which worked well for me so there was no need to replace them. I just received the Acer Hybrids a few days ago and after two rounds I can say I'm very pleased. The manufacturers always make claims that their latest version are easy to hit and correct all that is wrong with your game so I am always leery of such claims as if they were true we would all be playing on the tour. I am 63 and noticed that over the last two years I had lost 10 -15 yards on pretty well every iron in my bag, all the reviews I have read claim that hybrid irons add distance and height to your shots as well as being more forgiving on off center hits so I thought I'd give it a try. The Acer Hybrids were the lowest priced ones I could find and Custom Golf Center offered the best price on them that I could find. I live in B.C. Canada so could not visit James in person but I used the online fit chart as well as calling and talking to James which was as close to custom as I was going to get. I can honestly say that these clubs are user friendly, just the look of them give you confidence and the weighting feels like it will help you swing through which it has done for me. I definitely get more height as well as claiming back the yardage I had lost, after the two rounds I have played I can't see it getting anything but better as I get more accustomed to these hybrid irons. I usually shoot 90 - 96 and would highly recommend these clubs to anyone looking for a set that will help them play with more confidence, even the off center hits did seem to give a better result than the Ping Karsten irons I had been using. Wow, James. This yelp page says it all. Multiple negative reviews and it took 2 years for an owner response to those reviews. You have no basis to get defensive about not returning phone calls. Its all kind of like the 6 weeks I tried to get a return phone call about my club not being delivered, despite the fact that you said it was built and ready to go and that you were looking right at it. Six weeks, man! Technically eight weeks, but the first two were to be expected as ordinary lead time. I called once or twice a week for the first four weeks before stepping up to calling every day for a week. I finally tried calling 20 times a day for an entire week. To this day, you've never answered or returned a call. Then, finally I came home one day to see the club was delivered. Ironically, that was the third day after I left a similar review on google. Was it that hard to drive to the post office and drop it off? Would it have been so hard to answer one of the 100+ phone call attempts and just say that something had come up? Ridiculously pathetic. No excuses, yes its harsh and your pattern of this lack of service and follow up is why your company deserves this harshness. Customers, the clubs are good value, but don't custom order anything. There's no telling when or if you will ever get it. However, if you need a putter or wedge, and are local, the clubs are good and priced well. Again, be warned, if you can't cash and carry the item, placing an order for future pickup or shipping exposes you to potential/probable headaches like mine and some of the other reviewers. read more
