Wonderful! I have been coming here, along with my daughter, for probably 10 years. Dr. Cameron is fantastic and I adore the entire staff, especially Nicole. They's seen my daughter grow up from a little girl into a young woman, and I know I can always trust them to take great care of her and make sure she had everything she needs. I saw Dr. Cameron today. If I went into detail about my visit, this would become a very lengthy review, so I will keep it short and simply state that I walked out of this location with a smile on my face. I'm serious. I was simply amazed by her service, efficiency and attention. She was thorough and patient with me, she asked ME questions and listened to my concerns. She explained the exams, and even displayed the monitor picture that she took of the inside of my eyes and also explained what she was looking at/for. THEN, she asked me to try a new version of the brand of contacts I wear. I shake my head at myself(!), these almost went on without me even having to make contact with my eye. Even more exciting, they feel great! I feel like I don't have anything on. I never realized how uncomfortable I was in the old version. Why hadn't my other annual exam Doctors suggested this to me before?!? I've been to a different doctor every year for about 10 years. I always dreaded the annual exams due to the usual minimum hour long visit. I am not exaggerating the slightest bit when I tell you that as thorough Dr. Cameron was, I was in and out of her office in less than 25 minutes. I plan to tell everyone I can about her. I don't have social media, otherwise I'd comment about her on it. Trust me, on top of everything, she had the best bedside manners of any doctor I've ever met. I plan to go back every year to see Dr. Cameron. If she leaves to another office, I will follow her. I can go on about this Doctor, but I'm trying to keep this short. The overall experience at both Custom Eyes locations was relaxing, informative, comfortable and quick. The staff is helpful and I like their frame selection. I prefer the Roscoe Village location mainly because as a female I prefer female physicians/optometrists. The doctor at the Roscoe location was very nice, easy to get along with and helpful. The staff was very accomodating when I scheduled the appointment, however, their hours are not consistent. Free parking out front, too. read more

Am I just unlucky that I don't get the incredible, 5-star experience here? I've gone to Custom Eyes for 2 years based on the sparkling Yelp reviews. There's a lot of good here: - Fast, simple, no-nonsense exam from a kind doctor. - Bubbly, communicative girls to help pick out glasses. - Willingness to price out many frames and search for discount plans for insurance-lacking folks like me. However, I've had a lot of little things go wrong, and they're starting to add up: - On my first visit, the doctor had me try out a new brand of contacts, telling me they were cheaper. When I called back, they were actually more expensive. What was the point, then? No, thank you. - I have a lop-sided nose, so I need frames with a metal, adjustable bridge. This means that 2/3 of the frames here are automatically not for me. Custom Eyes loves trendy, hipster, plastic frames. How I wish I could wear Salt!! - The girls behind the counter are very nice, but they've had some pretty, er, personal conversations out loud. - I needed some colored contacts for a costume. I ordered them from 1-800-Contacts. My choice wasn't suited for astigmatism, so someone called me from Custom Eyes. I appreciated the medical concern, but I only needed the lenses for one event. These details fell on deaf ears. The tone the woman took was rather scolding/passive-aggressive: "Well, (sigh), if that's what you want...." - I've never had anti-reflective treatment on my glasses. I hardly wear them, and don't have a lot of money. Thus, I refused it my last visit. The sales girl did a great job trying to convince me, but I never said "yes"... and she put the treatment on my bill! Yeesh!! I admit I was strongly considering it, but I found the assumption rude. WAIT until I consent to giving that $100, please. So, yea. I'll continue to go here. The people are fun, fast, and I can see perfectly. I just wish they'd tweak their customer service a bit. I'm an adult who has worn glasses since I was a small child; I know what I am comfortable with and what I can afford. read more

I have been examined twice here. The male optometrist is reserved but got my prescription right on the first visit. I have astigmatism, so it can be difficult. The second time I saw a female optometrist, and she was actually confrontational about a topic I said was on the website. Well she checked, and of course, I was right. The two female receptionists barely ackowledge your presence. I need some great customer service which this place does not offer. Oh yes, the glasses selection is limited along with only high prices. I did go to the location on Southport, and the staff was much friendlier. One more note. I found a fabulous new eye doctor with a sense of humor. He told me my glasses are the wrong size--I purchased these expensive glasses from Custom Eyes and have complained about pain on my nose for some time. I actually gave up on having my glasses adjusted. Now I know it is not my nose with the problem!!!! My new eye doctor is a keeper. I will review him soon! read more

So happy I have my "Go to Place" for eye exams and eyewear after going to so many run of the mill establishments in the city! The service is incredible and the prices are very reasonable. I have a petite frame so finding a petite frame....no pun intended...can be a real challenge especially now that larger frames are all the rage. I usually have Nicole as my optician, and she just knows what will work for me, she's like optician magician! I was so happy when she picked out the perfect hipster frames that didn't overpower my smallish face, and the color is gorgeous ( a deep wine) which I never would have chosen for myself. This is by far one of the best Optometrists I've ever went to. The receptionist staff were very friendly right off the bat. Dr. Cameron was very easy going and receptive to my odd requests. She was even willing to give me a separate prescription for reading/up close glasses since I told her I didn't want my eyes to strain through my really high myopia prescription glasses. They are definitely a bit more on the pricey end, but I am happy to give them business and encourage anyone else who is looking for a friendly optometrist who won't treat you like a number to go here because an optometrist like this is very rare. Custom Eyes did an exam and gave me a few sets of lenses, plus ordered me glasses and all, everything spot-on. I have been going to Custom Eyes for a few years now. Service has been great. My prescription has been changing a lot over that last few years so new glasses are always in need. My exams have been stellar. But what has kept me impressed is the constant updating of exam equipment. I am in medical sales and I see many offices sit back and let the new technology go by. This office seems to be adding new equipment every couple of years. The girls upfront have been very helpful in picking out new frames for me. In a couple cases my prescription only moved a fraction and they talked me out of higher price items and convinced me into only into new lens. As my wife says, I am not allowed to pick out frames unless the girls at Custom approve them. read more

I've been a customer for about 5 years, and 90% of the time, I've been extremely happy. I live near both the Southport and Roscoe locations so I've been to both. It is a convenience to be able to visit either store. They have gone out of their way to help me with a couple of sticky situations, ranging from insurance snafus to a lost contact in the eye. In these cases, I felt they went above and beyond in their approach, and felt like a valued customer. I find their Roscoe receptionists more cheerful and friendly than Southport, but I don't mind aloof receptionists. Their selection is fantastic but pricey, but certainly their offerings include more reasonably priced frames too. I am definitely glad to have these eye folks nearby, as I drop in more than I thought I would. read more

Dr. Jennifer Cameron is more than an optometrist, she's an educator as well. I've been wearing prescription glasses since I was 8 years old and I've been constantly told by my eye doctor how bad my eyes were. Naturally, over the course of 20+ years of checkups, I never really felt that great about hearing more bad news. But over the course of the last 2 years seeing Dr. Cameron, the word "bad" has never been mentioned once, except for by me. I needed glasses and this place is down the street from me. Seemed like all the reasons to visit aligned. So I call, book an exam, and show up on time. The Dr. was nice, talked about my eyes (big surprise), then did the exam. Nothing out of the ordinary... because it's an eye exam, what else could they do? Now, the Dr. told me to look around and find a pair of glasses. Little did she know is that I am special-needs with fashion. That is where two extremely helpful sales assistants walked me around and grabbed a bunch of pairs (why is it called a pair of glasses when it is only one?). So, I stand there and try on each pair for them and they tell me 'yes' or 'no.' Me, a regular Zoolander. They got it down to a few pair that looked good and then I made the final choice. Apparently I have something called VSP insurance, which makes everything less painful. I'm out in an hour with new glasses and a new spot to do all my eyeball transactions. read more

The exam was easy and i got great Salt frames that i cannot wait to wear. the girls in the store were super nice helping me pick out something that would work with my face shape. price wise, i can see why people think they are expensive, but they are designer glasses. I love Custom Eyes! I should probably just end my review at that. Dr. Jen is amazing and so is the staff. I have had various eye issues over the years and Dr. Jen has always gone above and beyond to assist. She is caring, patient and willing to work with the customer to figure out a solution. More recently, I have dry eye and astigmatism. Dr. Jen made several recommendations and has been diligent in helping me get these issues corrected. Her staff is equally awesome. My rebate situation was handled poorly. I was told about the rebate on contacts at my appointment, but much later found out I was not given a signed form I needed. When calling about this, Nicole at the front desk was pretty passive aggressive for some reason and cut me off quite a bit. I was out of town so I asked her to email it to me; they have emailed me things before. She replied that the scanner was broken, the rebate never required the signature before, and that I would just have to come in and get it when I'm back. I guess that meant the scanner would never be fixed. I called another location and they promptly emailed me the needed form. read more

In the past year, after suffering with dry eyes and having to ask others to read fine print for me, I resigned myself to needing an eye exam. As I have never worn glasses, I was somewhat nervous about the whole process, but my experience at Custom Eyes was an extremely positive one. This place is great. They work very efficiently. I walked in there on Sunday afternoon and they made me an apt for 2p.m. that day. While I was waiting they helped me pick out the best frames. They take most health insurances and give a discount based on your insurance. I have Humana and got an awesome discount. On top of that I have vision insurance. So for three pairs of awesome glasses (one of them sunglasses) I only ended up paying $289. read more

On my own I'd probably look like Harry Carey. My bi-focal contact lens prescription is rather complicated. I have been given many options and time to choose the right lenses. Yes, the products are a bit more expensive, but I am don't mind paying for quality and I do have vision insurance. Best. Eye doc. Ever. Dr. Shoudis is my savior. I went to see her last November after suffering for way too long with chronic, severe dry eye and seeing several doctors who wouldn't do anything except recommend over-the-counter drops that did nothing for me. I could barely see out of my left eye, was uncomfortable all the time, and just couldn't take it anymore. Dr. Shoudis really listened to me, prescribed prescription drops, and was just generally awesome about the whole thing. I went to see her several more times over the next couple of months, tweaking various parts of my dry eye treatments, until my eyes finally felt comfortable again and I was pleased with my vision (for the first time in years). The ladies up front are really friendly and helpful with picking out frames. Great people, great boutique atmosphere, and their pricing seems reasonable to me. As long as I live in the city, I will continue to go to Custom Eyes. read more

I sought this business out as it was on a long list of optometrists on my Davis Vision plan, and I decided on this particular one because of all the positive reviews. I was really pleased to find out there was truth to the good feedback others had to share. The front desk staff were friendly, efficient, and adjusted my crooked frames (from my previous doctor). The optometrist was friendly and went out of her way to make sure all of my questions were answered. Overall, it was a very pleasant and quick interaction.
