This was my first time eating here. We went on Monday night. The restaurant was packed. Luckily, I made a resi (through their website). The atmosphere is super clean, hip, and tastefully themed. They have outdoor and indoor dining. We requested to sit in the private back room it had authentic mandala floor cushions. It was both intimate, and inviting, while able to enjoy the vibe. The food was very flavorful and fresh. The server was very friendly and informative. At first, I thought the portions were small until we started eating and had a ton left! They were generous with the rice as well. The appetizer we enjoyed the most was the deconstructed samosa. We also enjoyed the garlic, cheese and bruschetta naan. Each one equally as delicious with just the right amount of crisp. The spice levels were accurate. Vindaloo having a kick of spice. The Masala was very moist and flavorful. The best thing is when you have great company to enjoy an amazing meal. My friend and I finally found time to grab some food and catch up. Curryosity was the exactly what we needed. The waiter was so amazing even with how busy the restaurant was for happy hour he continued to dance around the floor assisting everyone with grace and a huge smile. We ordered everything he suggested and nothing disappointed us. We both had never had the cheese naan which was made with a mozzarella with a sweet chutney on top was the perfect instrument to mop up all the devine sauce the muscles were cooked in. The balance between the sweet chutney, soft warm cheese melting to the spiced sauce every bite was blissful. The muscles were cooked perfect and the coconut sauce added some much needed warm flavor leaving you wanting more. The rack of lamb was marinated to perfection for 12 hours with mint chutney and masala dipping sauce that united all the spices. Last we also had the saag curry which is made from spinach cumin, ginger and roasted cumin with paneer a mild cheese. That was the only dish I had never had. The cheese had a mild tofu texture. I didn't find it add much flavor or much to the dish. Mixed with the rice let the spinach shine. Overall I would get the rack of lamb again. The cheese naan I would use to slop up all the curry sauce. The one thing I would say is I thought the portions were on the smaller side or I eat too much lol. The happy hour menu was great and our wine brought out the flavors in all the dishes. The decorum was bright and cheerful open and filling the air making it a zen atmosphere. Parking can be tricky because it's only street parking so as the sun sets the parking disappears quickly. Until next time I can't wait to try more on the menu. read more

I enjoyed our experience here. They definitely know their curries and had the perfect answer to my curry cravings. This area of town doesn't have the best parking, so make sure you're prepared to walk a couple of blocks. They have an outside patio that is fur baby friendly. And they were more than happy to give our pup a little saucer of water. The spices in their curry was on point! A little thrown off on some of the knife cuts, and the meats were a bit on the drier side. I think our recent trip to Singapore raised our standards for Indian food as we had some damn good Indian food in the hawker centers. Half a star off for the dry meats. I felt a bit unattended to although the restaurant wasn't busy. We had to flag down our server for refills, napkins, check, etc. Overall, it is a great place to satisfy that little curry insisting monster inside of us all. The food was so flavorful, the colors bold, and the meal as a whole was so filling and hearty. The restaurant itself felt very comfortable, the lights were dim and it was a nice, quiet place to eat and talk over dinner. Our server was very kind, too. She gave us recommendations and was very helpful. We didn't see her much throughout the night but it looked like she might have been taking care of everyone that day, so I didn't mind too much. Found it noteworthy that this restaurant requested my friends and I to leave 1.5 hours into our reservation despite us all ordering drinks, appetizers, and each our own entree. They stated it was for a family of 10, though there were other tables in the restaurant open. My friends and I spent the remaining time standing outside of the restaurant and talking as our time was cut short, and walking past the restaurant again, there were only 6 people seated where we had just been kicked out. Their food was good, do not get my wrong. We enjoyed all of it including the masala fries, bhel puri, garlic naan, and Saag, vindaloo, and chicken tikka. However, it felt that they skimped out on other parts of the meal. Each entree is supposed to come with rice; however, for a table of 5 people, we were only were served one communal bowl of rice despite each of us ordering our own entree. The glass of mango lassi too was only half full. The way we were asked to leave left a sour taste in my mouth, and while the website states they're the best Indian restaurant in San Diego, I wouldn't agree. read more

Came to this place for happy hour for the first time. I met a friend and we got their $5 wine. What a deal! We sat at the bar and Justin (I think was his name) was super friendly, and attentive. Curryosity has set up a whimsical space near a busy intersection of South Park. I felt like I was walking into a house with a long bar in the back. A few outdoor tables were available in addition to the interior seating. There were some creative wall paintings for decor. I did notice the booths/tables were spaced apart at a comfortable distance. Like the business name, the menu contained a fusion of items (e.g. Curryosity Fried Chicken, Naan Bruschetta) beyond the standard curries and tandoori. I started with the Chutney Sampler that came with wheat chips. From the selection of mango, mint, and tamarind dipping sauces, I liked the mango the best because of the chunky fruit that is classic for a chutney. My entree was the Chicken Vindaloo which I got with an extra order of plain naan for an additional charge. The spice level for the dish was okay, but as others have noted, the sauce was too watery. I am accustomed to a thick gravy consistency as opposed to what they cooked up here. The service was prompt, and the food came out of the kitchen quickly which were both positive. They don't have any competition in this neighborhood so the prices were higher than areas like Miramar and Mira Mesa where there are plenty of Indian cuisine restaurants. Great Indian-American fusion close to Balboa. The curry fries are delicious and all the different curries and entrees are great. The Naan was slightly burnt and sauces cost $2 extra. Drink selection is not huge, but curated for the meals. I'd recommend going with friends and trying multiple different curries and small plates. Ordered butter chicken which comes with rice and ordered some garlic naan separately for takeout. My food was served pretty quickly which I was appreciative of. The curry itself is very flavorful, you can taste the hearty tomato and the meaty taste goes very well with both rice and naan. There's some chicken in the curry and it is very flavorful but it is all white meat and just a bit dry to me. The naan itself is also not bad, i just wish there was a bit more garlic bits on it. The inside of the restaurant is small, but the tables are spread out and not cramped. You'll have to find street parking. read more

I almost don't want to do this review because I want to keep it a secret hehe BUT there's nothing I love more than supporting local biz and sharing so more business can come their way! We showed up to this place on a Friday night, we thought we needed reservations but they sat us right away! They have indoor and outdoor seating. Indoor isn't very big but big enough to fit several groups of people. It's more of a date night vibe, low lighting and relaxed environment. Food: obvi we had some curry! I had the veggie Vindaloo curry and hubz had the chicken curry. 10/10 flavor, great portions I couldn't finish it! Don't even get me started on the garlic naan it is IMPERATIVE to have garlic naan while you are here & ensure you order your own if you're with someone else! I had been wanting to check out this spot for a long time! We happened to go here on Thursday and it was "date night". They had a special for two drinks and an appetizer. Veryy cute place. Well-decorated. The wait to be checked in and even order food was slightly long but only 2 waitresses for a lot of big groups tonight, wasn't too bad. I used to come here a few years ago and the happy hour (3-5pm daily) is still great for the area. The owner is so friendly and the decor is fun. They have vegan and GF options, and make their naan and samosas fresh. For quick bites, I recommend their samosas, any of their curry wings, saag, and butter chicken naan wrap. The Latkes were very flavorful, different from anything I've had before. The cheese samosas were also good! Next, we got Chicken Tikka Masala, Nervana curry with paneer, and Butter Chicken. Our server was attentive and fast. I've got butter chicken. The spice on this is amazing, well done. However, for me, the chicken was little tough and dry. Nice ambiance, a little cozy. The good tastes good and they have a good variety. It usually gets busy on Saturday nights, so you have to wait for around an hour to get a table here. Last time I went with 4 friends and when we got the bull, we got charge an extra percentage for service. They claimed that they charge for parties of 5 and up. This is not okay for so many reasons, but the first reason is that this information should be clearly stated on the menu or somewhere else, so that customers know it beforehand and can decide whether they want to stay and pay the fee or not. By the way, bigger parties will take less space than if they all seat in couples in different tables. They will also all request (usually) the food at the same time, so the waitress doesn't need to be coming back to the table many times... they can come less times for more people. read more

Not anything extraordinary, but very good and hit the spot. Service was pretty slow from taking our order, getting our food, and then waiting for the check; however, it looked like there were only 2 servers for multiple groups seated throughout the restaurant, so I understand. Have been here a few times over the years. Food tastes great but portions size is very small for the price. I got the saag with shrimp for $22 and had 5 shrimps total and nothing else - no veggies, just the sauce and about 3.4 cup of rice. They even charge for the chutneys. Can here for a fast dinner and was enticed by the clever name. We had the samosas and nirvana curry with garlic naan. Samosas had a great crispy outside but we're a little cold inside. Missing a spice but couldn't really ID what it was missing. Their chutneys are delicioussssss. Curry was also lovely but wish it was a bit more differentiated from a tikka masala. Luckily I made reservations! It was super busy even on a weekday. Highly recommend making reservations before coming. We were seated promptly. Service was fast. Food was super flavorful. We ordered the Chicken Vindaloo and Bhel Puri with Naan and Roti. The vindaloo was very good. It had a nice acidity with the right amount of heat. The boneless chicken was very tender and moist. This was my first time having Bhel Puri. And it didn't disappoint. It had a nice crunch from the puffed rice and was well balanced between acidity and sweetness. Overall I would highly recommend Curryosity! The only downside was parking but it's in South Park so what can you do lol read more

Definitely a mixed experience. I was surprised and pleased to find that they were serving lunch on the weekends, so we made plans to try their takeout. The first problem was that they no longer serve their lunch menu and the host said that the website did not need to be fixed "because it says on the top of the page that it is not currently available". When I got back, I checked the website again. I can't see anything, can you? Despite the set back, we decided to adjust the order and give them a try, anyway. The Indian latkes were yummy as was the fried chicken appetizer. we liked the chutneys. However, the garlic naan was just "ok" and my spouse did not care for the chicken tikka masala's sauce. Also, it was a very poor value for $16, being mostly sauce. Would I return? I might for just the latkes and fried chicken, and to give a couple of other appetizers a try. The dust-up over the lunch menu, however, lost them one star. I wish them well, but they handled that VERY poorly. read more
