    Lobio Dinner with Pork
    Natalie V.

We went here since we were looking for something new to try in the neighborhood. This is a fairly newly opened spot, and we came here with our dog too. They are dog-friendly -- they greeted our dog and brought him water right away. We decided to dine at the patio and they have so many interesting touches and decors. Upon checking the menu, not all items had their ingredients listed and were instead described in a creative manner, which we enjoyed. But what we enjoyed most was how knowledgeable the staff was in answering our questions about the menu, ingredients, and everything else. They were warm, friendly, and made really good recommendations. The food was freshly made, delicious, and tasted traditional -- even the presentation of each dish was done right. We ordered the following: - Pumpkiani - Babushka's Surprise - Lobia Dinner with Pork We enjoyed them all, but I feel the Babushka's Surprise was a bit on the sour side since they used green apple. Overall, we had a great time. Their service was amazing and the food was good. Others might think it's on the pricier side, but we would come back to try the other dishes they have.

Service was friendly. The dumplings were less stellar than expected and even more so considering the price point per piece. Salad platter was a win for the whole table.

Every year for my birthday I pick a new cuisine ive never tried before. This year was Georgian food! Hands down my favorite birthday dinner - every single item was fantastic and so full of flavor. As soon as you walk by you smell the kabobs being roasted outside by the owner, and boy do they make your mouth water. Claudia was amazing and took the time to help us digest the menu - there are a LOT of options. We had a party of 5 and we ordered: - 7-item sampler plate (salads) - 3 dumplings (beef/pork & cheese) - 2 breads (original & spicy pumpkin) - 1 beef stew That was the perfect amount, we were stuffed at the end! While all of the items were amazing, the ones that really stood out to us were: - egg/cheese bread - beef stew (OMG) - potato salad The table next to us got kabobs and I will definitely be getting that next time, they looked so good! You absolutely need to try this place! **Warning for those with nut allergies--- there are walnuts in a lot of items!!

When you arrive, it feels like being welcomed home - greeted warmly with the smell of freshly cooked meat and a joke. The atmosphere is very cozy, intimate, and inviting. I had never tried Georgian food before, and now I want to book a trip to Georgia to eat. The seven salad sampler plate provides great acidic contrast to the hearty meats and stews, but the khachapuri, a cheesy bread dish and the restaurant's namesake takes the cake. They emulsify the cheese and egg right in front of you, and it is mesmerizing. I cannot wait to return to try their KHINKALI (dumplings) and the rest of the menu!

Imeruli and mushroom dumpling was bars. The server was great had lots of recs. While delicious some of our beef tongue was lil tough, but the flavors went so crazy I couldn't give it anything less than a 5 star.

This Georgian restaurant was homey from the start. The host sat us immediately and the waitress kindly pointed out all dairy free options on the menu. The menu itself was a riddle and full of surprises. The Lobi dish was good as a vegan dish. It comes with a corn fritter, which was good but felt undercooked. The bean soup had a bit of a kick which was good! That came with a side of zesty cucumber, onion and tomato salad. The baked apples dessert was insane! The soft apple juxtaposed with vegan ice cream with caramel, plum and apricot was an explosion of flavor. I scraped the bowl clean. The place was well decorated, was homey, and uses great tableware.

Khachapuri was such a lovely and quirky flavorful experience. Obviously had to get the khachapuri! So good. Also the walnut stew, lamb and eggplant stew, and the eggplant roll dishes are all must orders. They were all deeply flavorful and you can't go wrong! The owner is the kind of person who makes a place unforgettable! Such delightful company, a little silly, and genuinely welcoming. He chatted with us at the end of our meal and even shared some history about Georgian cuisine, which made the whole experience feel more personal. The rest of the staff brought that same easy, family-style warmth, and our host was incredibly helpful in guiding us through the menu and finding dishes that matched everyone's tastebuds.

I read some of the reviews in regards to service and was hoping that would not be the case for us. It definitely wasn't the case and had great service. Our server was attentive, patient with our questions, provided great recommendations and the staff consistently checked on us. This place was on my list bc of the dairy free options. Based on reviewed and out servers recommendation we ordered the eggplant rolls to start. They were delish. Who would have thought eggplant could be cooked and prepared so well. Wish it was more than just 4 per plate. We also ordered the chicken (tabaka), but not the sweet sauce option (forgot what was in the other sauce). I really liked the chicken was seasoned and didn't need the sauce it came with. Also ordered the pkhali as I was interested in trying the spinach and beet salads. The salads have an interesting taste, but not a bad one. I think out of the 3 options the spinach one was my fav (interesting bc I would have thought the beet one would be). As we got closer to dinner time it was getting busy. I do recommend coming before dinner to avoid a longer wait time for food and more time asking your server questions.

Came on a week night and sat on the outside covered porch. There aren't many Gregorian restaurants in SD so I was glad to try it. We started with the Adjaruli, the boat shaped khachapuri. There were a variety of Khachapuri but I got the most iconic one. It was filled with melted cheese, butter and an egg yolk which was mixed table side. The bread was soft and went well with the gooey melted cheese which had a slight tartness. I'd like to try the one filled with meat next time. I had the severe winter soup which was quite small for the price. It was tasty and had bits of beef, similar to a stew. For my entree I had the Satsivi, a walnut stew with chicken. I chose this dish because Gregorian food is known for using walnuts. I also had the Odjakhuri, a beef, potato and carrot stew. Both were good but I think because we had 3 soup like dishes it was not my ideal meal. I'd suggest you either skip a soup if you're having a stew as your entree or choose an entree that's a solid protein. Also ordering a Khachapuri (bread/pie) dish and saving some of the bread to eat with the soup or stew. I was hoping they'd had Shkmeruli, Gregorian garlic chicken but it was not on the menu. Service was excellent as we did not know what many of the dishes were and some of the descriptions were a bit obscure and cheeky. Parking is all on the street. There are steep stairs in front to enter the restaurant but there's also a wheelchair accessible ramp on the side. I was glad to try Gregorian cuisine I think I'd have a better experience now that I know how to order.

Khachapuri is one of the few Georgian/Russian restaurants in the SD area. They are located on a corner in the University Heights neighborhood where you may have to circle around the blocks a few times to find open curbside parking. One has to ascend a set of steps to reach the main level of the restaurant. Perhaps we missed it, but I hope there's a nearby ramp or lift to assist the disabled to access the business because I can't imagine bringing my elderly parents and having them walk up the steep stairway. There was both inside seating in the dining room and outside under a covered front patio. The former was occupied and/or reserved when we arrived for dinner so a two-top table on the patio was where we ended up. Drinks were listed on the front side of the two-page menu. About a couple of dozen food items were on the back page. Our waitress explained to us that many of the offerings were stews and soups. She even showed us photos of various items. I agree with one reviewer that said such photos need to be added to the menu. Their website already has this feature so it shouldn't be difficult to create a menu with them included. We started with the signature namesake item which was the Adjaruli (i.e. khachapuri) along with the Severe Winter Soup. The first was a baked bread boat filled with cheese and topped with an egg yolk. I would order this again as the dough was very soft. The price was high at $19.25 which will become a recurring theme. The soup was akin to a beef stew with several pieces of meat. There was no listed price so the server checked with the kitchen. It turned to be 50% more than the regular soup on the menu and was as expensive as our entrees. We then split two entrees which were the Satsivi and the Odjakhuri. The first was a rich walnut stew served with chicken. I preferred this item because of the broth's savory nuttiness. The second was a meat and potatoes stew. The flavor profile was similar to the Severe Winter Soup. The main difference was the inclusion of carrots and potatoes. Each of these entrees was $20+ which would have been fine if the portion size was larger. My rating of our dining experience at Khachapuri was between three and four stars.

Kubdari (meat pie) - you can add cheese with no extra charge

This place is a hidden gem!! The server had amazing recommendations! We had the Khali (vegetable dish with walnuts, herbs and spices). The server also recommended Kubdari with cheese - a delicious meat pie! We wanted to order the skewers as well but we ran out of room. Will definitely be back!

    Kharcho (with beef)

First time eating Georgian food, didn't know what to expect. The space is unique with charm and open space for seating large and small parties. We were served by Anton, who was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and excited to share recommendations on foods based on his knowledge and our tastes. We had the phkali, kubdari, a dark chocolate raspberry dessert, and then went for kharcho because we couldn't stop eating for how good it was!

Food is pretty decent, the restaurant has character, service is offered with warmth and passion. The menu has some sense of humor, we found resemblance with another Georgian restaurant menu, only to find out that both restaurants share same founder. Service was a bit slow, hardly any parking nearby but warmth of the staff made up for it.

Honey cake! Hearty and thick, plenty for two.

The caramelized onion on top looked like bacon, it was sexy. Don't even get me started on the bread bowl. This is MUST order item. They bake them in batches because of how popular they are. They bring out a piping hot bread bowl filled with the oooey-gooey cheese of your dreams and an egg yolk in the center. For an elevated factor, they preform some carbonara magic and mix in the egg table side, which I loved. It was fun watching the cheese change in color and texture, and the egg yolk adds a yummy rich unctuousness that keeps bringing you back in for more!! It was our favorite dish far! We ended our meal with the lamb shank which was cooked to perfection. Like the bone is literally for decoration. The meat dropped from the bones like panties booooy my jaw dropped. The sauce was extremely interesting and pretty acidic maybe from the plum and white wine (not sure if that even makes sense like are plums acidic tbh?) but it pairs beautifully with the flavorful rice it's served with. My only complaint is that they didn't give enough rice, it needs significantly more, so maybe order an extra side of two?? I highly recommend trying the meat and rice separately and then trying them together. It took me on a fun flavor journey I've never been on before. The restaurant itself is super cute homey/rustic aesthetic, I loved the eclectic lamp and art collection that had everything was unique and fun! The service was amazing, every single person we interacted with was nice. I think they only hire beautiful people or something. We went around 7pm on Friday night and only had a 10 minute wait which was a pleasant surprise! I also like that you can dress up or down. Although most people were dressed up when we there, I didn't feel out of place even though I was in jeans and a tank top lol

It was a disaster and I ended up with a headache by the end of it. Tried lots: - Pear Soda (Russia) - soo good! This was very refreshing and not overly sweet - I loved the idea of the Salad Sampler Platter as a way to try multiple things in small batches. I wish more places did something like that. The Olivier and Kavkaz Beet Salad were the agreed upon favorites of the table - The Khinkali were much bigger than we expected them to be. Sadly, they were very disappointing: the dough was too thick, there wasn't a lot of meat filling, and, other than being doused in pepper, it was bland - It was my first time having Russian Borscht and I wasn't a big fan of it. Polish borscht is much tastier in my opinion. The bread was a hit - Chakapuli - best dish for sure! It was perfectly cooked and seasoned and paired perfectly with their rice - Shashlik - this was cooked very nicely, but was way too peppery. The rice was overcooked I'd give this place a 3 overall, but minus a point since I left with a headache.

The front deli case has all the smoked fish you want and also plenty of different kinds of sausages too. And since its the holidays, there are also plenty of fun chocolates and gift items! I chose to buy some rusk bread crisps (salmon and cheese flavored) and Russian style egg salad. Both were good! I didnt know what to expect with Russian style egg salad as it has cheese and fresh garlic in it, so I was a little worried if I didnt like it, but good thing is that I definitely liked it and can definitely pair them with some Carr crackers as a snack! Almost everyone in here was speaking Russian and I definitely felt like a weirdo in there but everyone was nice to me and welcoming. My only gripe is that the rusk crisp was labeled as $1.99 and I was charged $2.50. Id come back here again and try other things too next time.
