It was not overly sweet and perfectly thick. We split the vegetable samosas (served with tamarind and mint chutnies), chicken tikka naan, chicken 65, and a cup of rasam. Everything was pretty amazing with the chicken tikka naan being the star and the rasam being a little strange (to be fair, I've never had it anywhere so I don't know what it's supposed to taste like). Wow. Our 1st time, we were lucky enough to come when they had a dinner buffet (Wednesdays). Not that familiar with all types of Indian food so this was a delight. The staff are absolutely fantastic helping me discover the plethora of flavor combinations this fine establishment has to offer. Ambiance A+ check out the elephant wall light near the bathroom. I went to Curry Leaf last Friday night with a friend and my 6 month old baby in toe. I ordered the Chicken Chettinad because I was enticed by the thought of 21 different spices in my meal, and my friend ordered the Chicken Vindaloo. I really actually wanted the Vindaloo because of that one Seinfeld episode, but that will have to be ordered on my next trip. The chicken Chettinad was everything I hoped...very spicy and delicious! I was told that the Chicken Vindaloo was just as tasty. We both gobbled everything up! The atmosphere in this restaurant was quiet and I saw a few people on dates. By accident we ended up on east Montgomery blvd at lunch time. We saw sign and went in, discovering a lovely dining room with table linen and friendly staff. Very intriguing menu but decided on buffet. It was astoundingly delicious! Attentive staff brought breads to sample as well. Although it got pretty busy thru lunch hour high ceilings and spaced table gave sense of security in these times. Can't wait to return to take culinary tour of India through their extensive menu. Thy soon ran out of rice. Customers were not happy. Thy soon added some food. Man came out with naan bread. It was terrible kinda doughy tasting. It wasn't cooked long enuf. The tandoori red chicken had no flavor. The butter chicken is one of my favorite. This was not good butter chicken. And thy turn off the AC on a hot day. We are short staffed at the moment" ... you can't just expect your customer to wait 55 mins for rice and naan. I ordered the ginger lemonade as well. Was not impressed at the least. I enjoy this locations ambiance. They cater to vegans and to meat eaters alike. Some of the Indian restaurants will have many more vegan dishes but Curry Leaf has it really balanced. If I eat Indian food I usually just eat Vegetarian/Vegan, my favorite dish ever is the Baingan Bharta. This dish was recommended to me at Curry Leaf and I order it now as my staple dish at every Indian restaurant. If you prefer to eat meat. I think an obvious choice would be The Chicken Tiki Masala. Other great Vegan dishes include Sag Alo (spinich), Yellow Dal, and Vegetable Korma. You can request for any of of the dishes to be a specific spice level as well. I appreciate really spicy food and they cater to my request. My husband hates spicy food and everything made to order comes with a spice level of zero, unless otherwise stated on the menu. There lunch buffet is great and I think Curry Leaf has the nicest Indian Restaurant in New Mexico. If you are catering to a group, celebrating something, or have a business meeting. The environment is very appealing. The restaurant is close to an Ultra Lounge and Tap Room if your group decides to have more drinks. If you feel like having a dessert near by with your children or friends, there is a rolled ice cream joint next door as well. I honestly think you can't go wrong with making your next Indian dining experience with your spouse, friends, or co- workers at Curry Leaf. Took an out of town visitor for dinner. He is originally from India and after trying several restaurants he gives this the seal of approval. We started with appetisers Idli Sambar and chilli paneer, flavourful paneer, with crisp veggies. The idli soft and fluffy the sambhar was flavourful and soaked into the idli beautifully. Main dishes were Makhani chicken which was flavourful with a delicious sauce and lots of chunks of chicken, the rice was fluffy and perfectly cooked. My dinner guest had the masala dosa, a crisp thin dosa, stuffed with potatoes and was an amazing combination. This place is amazing definitely worth a visit. read more

Curry Lead is beautifully decorated, has the friendliest and smiliest service (with the exception of our main server who seemed a little spaced out and inattentive but she was still pleasant) I've experienced in a while, and the buffet looked amazing. I typically go for the buffet when I visit Indian restaurants, but I changed it up with the Chicken Curry from the main menu. Wow hot wow hot. It builds and then it lingers. I've lived in NM for about 16 years and I love chile, heat and flavor, and ethnic cuisine, but I think I'm becoming wimpier as I get older with what I can handle...this was on another level of hotness for me. After a few more nibbles and three more glasses of water, I mustered up the courage to ask the friendly solo diner next to me for a trade off. I swear, this is not typical behavior for me, but he and I had been chatting throughout the course of our dining experience about different Indian restaurants that we've been to in town and what he recommends from Curry Leaf, as it was his second time there. I asked him if I could try the Tandoori Chicken from the buffet and I'd give him my Curry dish. Mission accomplished and the chicken was right up my alley. My friend and I absolutely loved the garlic naan and vegetable samosas. The reason for my questionable 3.5 stars is because we were convinced that the majority of the veggies in the Vrattan Korma ("9 precious vegetables cooked in mild creamy sauce with cashews, almonds and raisins") were from a frozen package. You know how those California-style frozen carrots are ridge/crinkle-cut into little circular pieces? That's what it looked like, along with the snap peas and broccoli. The taste seemed off. The cauliflower and zucchini tasted/seemed fresh, but the rest were questionable. I would definitely give Curry Leaf another go - next time with the buffet or a different, milder chicken dish. I was surprised (but very happily so) to find such amazing South Indian food in Albuquerque! They have a standard range of North Indian cuisine options on the menu as well, as well as indo-chinese , but I have to go for the South Indian whenever I have a chance since finding it on a menu at an Indian restaurant is not the norm! Their sambar and coconut chutney - two of the staples of South Indian cuisine -- are perfect. I ordered the madras tomato soup and the masala uttapam, both of which were vegan (as is much of their menu -- bonus points!) I wanted to try the mysore masala dosa, idly sambar, and vegetable manchurian, but I was only one person so that would have been a little excessive I have seen the masala tomato soup (made with coconut milk) on menus before but have never tried it before tonight... and it is now a favorite! The flavor pairings, particularly with the squeeze of lemon juice, were divine. The uttapam was flavorful and perfectly crispy on top. The bell peppers really made it, although next time I'd add chili's to kick up the spice a notch. The dining area is tasteful, clean, and attractive, and service is friendly and quick. I've had dinner with a friend at Curry Leaf once & their lunch buffet several times with small groups. So this review is mostly about their lunch buffet. Prices at Curry Leaf struck me as being in line for both dining times: $10-$12 for lunch buffet sans drink and $20-$25 for dinner sans drink IIRC. However, I almost always spring for masala tea to accompany my meal. Food is always very tasty to this gringo who's never been to India, so I may not be the best judge of authenticity. Nonetheless, I enjoy wading through the buffet options, particularly when they have something I've not had before (or have forgotten about since my last visit). The various sauced meat & veggie dishes make delicious drapings for their basmati rice with peas. Both sides of the carnivorous:vegetarian fence bring plenty of spicy goodness to the plate in my experience. The setting is subdued & quietly elegant. No garish or clashing colors. Restrained art & decor throughout interior. I appreciate that they keep the tables set with linen, to include pretty napkin fans in water glasses, and rolled flatwear. A wall of north facing windows brings in tons of light. Small bowl of breath freshener spices by door is a considerate touch. Staff is one of the best in the city, with the notable exception of not always being able to translate ingredients into an English equivalent that we gringos can grasp. The waiters' attentiveness, proficiency, and courtesy are textbook for what gold standard care of customers looks like. They've always been available without being obtrusive and very responsive when anything is requested. They maintain a constant cruise of dining area with water pitcher & teapot in hand to freshen up your glass or cup. So check out Curry Leaf lunch buffet and see if they scratch your itch for reasonably priced all you can eat spicy goodness. read more

Dosa masala (enormous and crispy thin rice pancake filled with seasoned smashed potatoes) and uttapam are both served with sambar soup. Delicious and mildly spiced. Hubby liked the chicken curry, lamb biryani, and chicken vindaloo. Medium spice on these wasn't too hot. They set up an extensive lunch buffet that my friends say is gorgeous. Very rude staff. They were purposely being rude to my mother and father. The buffet where they bring you food is a joke. By the time you bring the bread / naan to eat your other food is cold. First of all, let me say that I have plenty of time to write this review since it's taken FOREVER to get my food. I think they forgot my order. I have no idea. I've had to initiate most communication here. I'm dining solo. So what? Is that a problem? I've yet to see a waiter, just the guy who fills the water. The woman who took my order works the register. Now for the food, which finally arrived. Garlic naan: hot and fresh. Excellent Chicken tikka masala: admittedly not Indian (from all I've heard) but my favorite dish at Indian restaurants. I ordered it medium hot (spicy). I'd say it was medium at most. No worries. That's easy to adjust. Tasted quite good, but I think it's better at Taj Mahal. I requested some chile to get the spice level up to par. A guy brought me some Thai garlic chili and three small green peppers. He warned me about the heat, and I assumed he meant the peppers since the Thai chili isn't that hot. I was also disappointed because the Thai chili, which I love and stock at home, imparts a strong flavor (vinegar and garlic. I guess), and that's the last thing I want to do to my curry - overpower it with that flavor. I love the subtlety of chicken tikka masala, and that chile would ruin it. (Taj Mahal brings you a red chile that imparts heat but no flavor. That's how it should be.) I got the spice up a bit by taking small bites of the peppers. I was nervous though because those small peppers often pack a frightening punch. These seemed like they might have that potential, but I was careful and didn't get waylaid. Maybe they weren't that hot after all?? All things considered, the food was pretty good. I'll have to come back and try some other dishes here, and hopefully they can improve their service some next time. read more

Service is far better than any other Indian restaurants. The chicken tika masala was good but it had only SIX pieces of chicken. The navrattan korma wasn't bad but I've had a better one at Taaj palace with a more complex flavor profile. The dosa masala was really good, and was stuffed with a slightly spicy potato filling that reminded me of the inside of a samosa. I ordered two desserts: the Rasmalai and the carrot malwa. The rasmalai was two small cheesecakes in an almond cream sauce and it tasted great. The texture was somewhat similar to paneer or tofu. My husband and I first came here during the pandemic season when all the inside was outside for dining and they were serving a limited menu that was like a sampling of everything they had. The reason why this would be my last time here is that honestly this is the worse Indian food restaurant I have ever been too. The food was tasteless and the currys were almost water and without any flavors. The Mango Lassis were very good on the other hand. We ordered the curry chicken and the leaf curry chicken which is a spicier version (not that spicy) both curries were lacking flavors.
