We have been passing by Taaj Place for a while and we finally stopped to try their lunch buffet. The place is big and nicely decorated. The host and servers were very attentive, a bit on the shy side but very nice. The options for lunch included multiple vegetarian and non vegetarian options, with all the naan you could wish for! I had some butter chicken, tandoori chicken, goat, a stuffed pastry, breaded vegetables, and rice, with mango creme custard for desert. My favorite was the butter chicken because it was smooth and tasty. The tandoori chicken had good flavor but was a bit dry. The goat was too oily for my taste but was tender, with good flavor. The stuffed pastry was interesting; I think the stuffing was filled with minced tandoori chicken and pickled carrots. The mango custard was liquid but the flavor was a glorious ending to the meal. Overall, this was a decent experience with multiple options. Even though the non-vegetarian dishes were a bit oily, they had good flavor. I'm still interested in à la carte menu for another time. read more

This is the place I normally go and have their lunch buffet. Today, however we decided to go have lunch in the park (2 blocks away).. when I got there, I was helped by a young man named CJ. I ordered the butter chicken with rice, the tandoori chicken and Kashmir naan. i've been to this place before, but not in quite a while. The butter chicken was tasty as always, with the exception of we found two separate occasions of cartilage and or bone. The tandoori chicken was dry and not as good as when we do the lunch buffet. The Kashmir naan is filled with a mixture of pistachios and cherries and something else. I hate to say it but the naan just didn't have enough filling and 40% was just dough. Although there were issues, it's the first time we've ever encountered this and will hopefully see a difference on the next visit. read more

I'd never had Indian food that didn't come from Trader Joe's before, so I wanted to try something that didn't come from a bag or box. Hubs and kids were out of town, so my mama and I went on an adventure. I thought it would be best to try an Indian food buffet so I could try bites of everything and not be stuck with something I might not have liked. We were seated right away, given a pitcher of water, and told we could help ourselves to the buffet. I got a spoonful of everything between 2 plates. There wasn't anything I didn't like on the buffet, so that was a huge plus. I really enjoyed a slightly sweet carrot dish--and of course I don't remember what it was called. I really REALLY enjoyed the saag paneer and the navrattan korma. I went back and got two bowls of each. Upon entering, I was a little confused about the clothing on display for sale right at the door. I worried that I went into the wrong place, but the smell of spices let me know I was at the right place. At an appt near here decided Indian Food buffet would be a good choice. We arrived after the lunch rush and grabbed a seat. Selection of food was smaller than expected am broken into 3 sections: Meat-primarily chicken. The Vegetarian selections were equal to the meats. But larger than most restaurants we've been to. Lastly salad bar and desserts - including Mango Pudding, OK I'm happy. The food was excellent. The Butter Chicken was flavorful as was the spicy chicken. the naan was hot & fresh. There were 2 types of tandoori chicken. It was well - tandoori chicken - dry yet still flavorful. Even with the smaller selection we didn't leave hungry. Another bonus - even with the smaller after lunch crowd the food wasn't dried out. Service was good, empty plate were cleared and drinks refilled promptly. I ordered take out from here, classic chicken tikka masala and paneer saag. I ordered the 3rd option of medium spice (not sure if it was supposed to be spicier than the 1st or 2nd option or not). It was 0% spicy. I was disappointed. In the future I will add a lot more spice. It was tasty otherwise and what I was craving. I also ran out of rice. Not a huge deal, but I always like sufficient rice so I dont have to make more. I did get a small salad with cucumber and a pudding that I wasn't expecting! Those were both delicious. The paneer saag wasn't at all what I was expecting. It was mostly tomatoes and green peppers and maybe 8-10 spinach leaves total. I like paneer saag to have spinach as the base. Maybe it's a different part of India that does it this way. It was still good, just not what I hoped for. I will come back again to see if I can get it more to my liking. The best place for butter chicken in New Mexico. However, during the last three years or so the flavor can be inconsistent from visit to visit. If you catch them on a day when the spice is hottest you will have one of the best meals of your life. The buffet price keeps rising but I think they are keeping it in line with their costs. When the spice is high it's definitely worth the price even if all you get is butter chicken. Which is why they deserve 5 stars even if sometimes the flavor falls flat. read more

Never again. I love Indian food (at least what's available in the U.S.). I have never encountered an Indian dish that was too spicy for me... until recently from Taaj Palace. The mutter paneer was too spicy. I couldn't eat it. The dal makhani was too spicy AND had an incredible amount of raw green onions in it (that was the most offensive part). I couldn't eat it. I ordered through Instacart, which contracted Uber Eats to deliver. I called the restaurant immediately, spoke to Rano (who, from what I understand, is the owner). She told me to bring it back and she'd remake the dishes. I told her I was unable to do that, as I am physically disabled (hence the delivery). She just kept repeating that I should come in and she'd remake it. Unfortunately, Instacart and uber eats didn't care, and my bank didn't even reverse the charge. So now, a disabled and broke customer just gets screwed. Thanks a lot. Never again. read more

Just thought I'd start off by planting the idea in your head right away. It made me so happy to see how busy they were for takeout (I watched customers go in and out from my car). It took me multiple tries to get through on the phone when I ordered, and when I went inside to pick up my dinner, the phone was ringing pretty much non-stop. Big kudos to you, Taaj Palace! You're totes crushing it during this pandemic. I'm so happy my bestie branched out from her usual vegetarian dish choices and ordered Navrattan Korma because the cream sauce was no joke HEA-VEN-LY. I couldn't stop dipping my garlic naan in it. We both made excellent choices and I am looking forward to trying a new dish in the future. I have tried the tandoori chicken dish once in the past (the photo automatically popped up when I started the review), quite a while back, but it was not memorable. I am a bellydancer. Roughly once per month or so dancers assemble in the "banquet room" and dance the night away. Some of us like traditional bellydance music and some of us are more adventurous. We dance to drumming to wrap things up and Rashpal Sandhu puts up with all of it. I find all their offerings to be delicious and delightful. All the staff understands my various sensitivities and makes food to suit my needs. The daily buffet is fantastic. You know what you are in for. You can take a tiny taste of anything new or unfamiliar. If your body likes it, go back for more. If not, no harm done. The staff are all fantastic and highly accommodating. Sometimes I eat here just for the pure joy of it. The owner does try to warn customers when the dancing might take place even though the dancers occasionally change dates with minimal notice. Also, there are gorgeous outfits for sale as well as a few other small items from India. They sometimes show Bollywood dancing on the TV. Other times the sound is muted during of news or other items that are not of interest to an American audience. read more

Ordered Uber Eats. We got the butter chicken, lamb masala, malai kofta, and onion naan and lamb naan. They forgot the onion naan. The also threw in a "free" side salad for some reason but it was some old wilted lettuce and some cucumbers. All the food was fairly standard- nothing really wowed me but it wasn't terrible. Just a short drive from home this was an excellent way to spend our Sunday lunch! We had heard amazing things about the buffet from various friends, and since we had loved the last Indian cuisine restaurant we had gone to we decided it was time to give it a try. We were seated very quickly and only a couple tables away from the buffet. Right away we could smell all the wonderful spices and aroma. I would love to say that when it comes to food i eat in moderation but not this time! The buffet is separated into vegetarian and meat dishes, so you can either stick to one and skip down to desserts or make your way down and taste a bit of everything. Although I can't remember the names of the exact dishes i will do my best to describe those i thought were most appealing to my palate. Along with a few slices of na'an and bastimi rice I had a delicious plate of potatoes, peas and a creamy curry sauce. This was accompanied by a dish that contained cauliflower and peppers. Now if you've ever tried cauliflower wings to substitute regular chicken wings you must try these! They were absolutely crispy and spicy with the best of flavors and texture. On to the meat dishes these I know because I've tried to make them but nothing compares to knowing the correct spices and methods of making these dishes. My favorites were the Chicken tikka masala and the Chicken dal which contained yellow lentils. Both were piping hot and the chicken was perfectly cooked. I had to make several trips until i was absolutely full i could not have another bite. If this hasn't been enough to convince you to go then I hope knowing that the buffet is $13 does it for you. You'll have the opportunity to taste a little bit of everything and trust that it will all be wonderfully mouthwatering! read more

This is our first time in and we were happy with the experience. It is a Friday evening and they have belly dancing. We were provided to option to seat in that room or one of the other two, the options were much appreciated. Also, Lunch and Dinner buffet available. The food was delicious, fresh, and they made sure to refill promptly when running low. I drink a lot of water and was very pleased that they automatically provided our table with a pitcher of water. Taaj Palace has Evening Buffet! This is the only Indian restaurant in Albuquerque to have buffet at night (that I'm Aware of) and it has the largest buffet as well. So double bonus. They have 3 buffet tables that are three rows deep with amazing Indian Vegetarian dishes, Meat dishes, and Dessert and Salads. They put out a lot of things that the other local Indian restaurants don't serve on buffet like samosas. Their samosas are the closest I have tried in the states that taste almost like the huge ones you can get walking the streets of New Delhi. They surprise you with their spiciness, but are not as spicy as the street food ones in Deli that almost make your eyes bleed. This is my favorite Indian restaurant in Albuquerque by far. The only reason I am giving them a four star is because this time they charged me full price adult buffet for my three year old who ate a bit of rice and a slice of watermelon. Looks like they have redone the menu since I was there last with lots of new dishes, and it looks as if they don't have it updated on their website. So sorry I don't have the exact names of my dishes. I ordered some spicy cheese naan and my main dish it was a Ghost something. It had a warning about it being so spicy and I like spicy food, so I went for it. I also ordered a spicy cheese naan. It was my intention to have the beer served with my meal so I left that out but she asked so I told her specificly with the food. I read it straight off the menu and said I wanted a Kingfisher beer. My server (and part owner?) said that Kingfisher had not been stocked in about 6 months. So I ordered a Taj Mahal beer instead. The beer was brought right away by another younger gentleman that was just trying to help out. My food came out after a while and the man asked how it tasted about a minute after i got it. Taaj Palace is fantastic. I went here this past Sunday while visiting friends. I have visited Albuquerque countless times throughout my life but never had tried Indian food here, so I have to admit that I was originally a bit skeptical on the drive over. However, my worries were unfounded. Everything about Taaj was great. I am not exaggerating when I say that the food here blew all of the Indian food I've tried in Denver out of the water. The staff were incredibly nice, checking on us throughout our meal and being attentive without hovering. There was a man, whose name I didn't catch, who had the biggest smile and generally acted like we were old friends who he was happy to see. Service is clearly emphasized here and that helped round out our awesome experience. We had been on a hike earlier and were pretty thirsty, and I especially appreciated how they refilled our water frequently. I have had way too many restaurant experiences where I finish my water and the glass just sits empty with no waiter in sight, but that was not the case at Taaj. The buffet was varied. Just some of the items they had were vegetable samosas, naan, basmati rice, butter chicken, tandoori chicken, saag paneer, lamb meatballs, a crispy chicken dish with peppers and onions, and various desserts. Out of all the dishes I sampled from the buffet, the saag paneer was my favorite, closely followed by the gajar halwa (Indian carrot pudding). Their naan was marvelous as well. Everything was very fresh, and it was obvious that it had been recently made and had not been wilting under the heat lamps. I wish we had an Indian buffet like this in Denver! read more
