I have lived in Bay Area for 3 years eating lots of Indian food and created my standard for taste and class. Formal dining setting and you will never fail to impress anyone. Fan folded napkin in water goblet. I ordered the following and what I think about it. Vegetable pakora- non traditional but quite delicious with green chutney and tamarin chutney Tandoori Wings- 6 wings for a great price. Good starter if you don't feel like eating the whole entree and still want to be able to try. Came in a sizzling place. Lamb Curry- came a little bit to the sweet side with more tomato that onion side. Tender and was great tasting. Spice level not so much. If you want spicy then lamb Vindaloo will be my next bet. Well, for starters...we're so excited to be the first to "Yelp" this place. We actually had dinner next door and as we were driving out, we googled the Curry Leaf and hark, this bad boy had yet to be reviewed so...we loosened up a few notches on out belts, put our "get serious about eating" faces on and marched in! The service - right outta the gate, was top shelf. For starters, they brought out warm plates that they wiped clean in front of us, as they placed them down, perfectly centered in front of you - nice touch! The silverware (see photo) look like it came from Tiffany's it was so frigg'en polished. Obviously they have an immense amount of pride in their establishment and trust me, it shows. Did I already mention that we have already eaten dinner prior to coming in here???? So...on to the food. Amazing! This is, and I'm not being all mellow dramatic here, but quite possibly the best Indian food I've had since that remarkably/odd trip/experience up in Bozeman. The curries all had big big flavor and the onion kulcha was so fresh and soft - it melted in your hand...literally. We went with the lamb vindaloo and this chicken dish called chicken chettinad per the maitre'd recommendation. Wow - he didn't steer us wrong at all - and why would he anyway. This will definitely become a new ABQ favorite in my humble opinion. I'm already planning on coming back later next week!!! Tonight the family and I stopped In for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised by the service. Everyone was prompt and friendly. We were given great food recommendations. The kids loved the Nan bread, and the spices were perfect on both chicken masala and the prawns masala.Ended the meal with Chai Tea and a great custard. read more

Indian food cravings are immediately satisfied by Curry Leaf. And as much of a fan as I am of tikka masala and curries, my new obsession is the dosa. I can't get enough of it. It comes out as a huuuge crepe on a huuuge plate. I never think I'll finish the whole thing, but I do. The flavors in the masala dosa are just spicy enough to still be enjoyable, and the crepe is perfectly crispy. The two dipping sauces it comes with are also perfect balances. Absolutely obsessed. My family and I have been going to this place for years. I used to love the buffet at lunch, but also frequented the dinner time with great dishes. This place has really changed for the worse this past year. I frequently get the shrimp vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, or goat curry. The curries have been watered down. They used to have jumbo shrimp in the vindaloo; now they're smaller medium size shrimp. The rice is one of the biggest problems. They changed the kind of rice they use. And it's like they forgot how to use spices in the rice. The rice just tastes awful, and the awful rice makes the curries taste awful as well. Their prices are so ridiculously high, but they have really cut down on the quality. It's like, come on, I pay $18 for a shrimp vindaloo, and you can't even use jumbo shrimp!??? Anyway, my family and I will not be going here again. Sadly, they've taken my money thinking that we wouldn't notice the cutting of corners in quality food. I'll be going to namaste or taj mahal restaurants for my Indian fix from now on. read more

Not sure what everyone else giving this place 5 stars is tasting, but the food is not even subpar. My husband and I are new in town, and our guess is New Mexicans don't exactly know what true ethnic food is suppose to taste like (we tried a Vietnamese place, also great reviews but honestly the worst I've tasted in a long time). To give this review credibility, we're from the Bay Area and I believe we have a pretty good idea what Indian food is suppose to taste like. The chicken tikka masala literally tasted like they cracked open a can of Campbell's tomato soup and put chicken in it. The rice--dry, and to be honest not sure it was cooked all the way. The Lamb Saag--basically overcooked lamb tossed in American creamed spinach. The saving grace was the goat curry--the goat was tender and the curry at least resembled something like Indian food we've tasted from back home. I suppose if you're from NM, this would be "pretty good." But if you're from out of town and wanting to satisfy a craving, I'd say you're out of luck pal. read more

The better-half and I have an ongoing debate between 4 and 5 stars on the rating here, but since I wield the mighty pen, the 4-star stands until at least our next visit. The dining room is absolutely lovely, and the staff polite, quiet, and efficient. We have not yet tried a plated dinner from the menu, which would likely tip the scales one way or the other and settle the debate. We end up getting the buffet every time because they consistently include Goat Curry, and a seriously goaty curry at that. Most Goat Curry we have found in North America is pretty shy with the actual goat, tossing in just a few pieces of boney meat. Not Curry Leaf! The Goat Curry is packed with meaty chunks, and even the bone bits have more meat on them than you generally find in a whole serving of similar curries in town. Goat is fifth in my list of favorite proteins, so its inclusion isn't a deciding factor for me. Don't get me wrong, though, we have had consistently good service here, and the buffet never fails to please, so I am definitely a fan. We will keep coming back, and perhaps I will find the wow-factor eventually for that fifth star. read more

Curry Leaf never fails to satisfy- whether it is enjoying the buffet, dining from the menu for dinner, or scooping up a delicious takeout order. Had the buffet today, and it was glorious when we arrived right as they opened. So many options, and everything was enjoyed by our whole party of 5- especially the fresh naan and dosas they bring out piping hot while you dine. Nice versions of Indian standards are offered, but we go mainly for the dosas. Thin, crispy crepes with delicious fillings. Our favorite is the Masala Dosa with a savory potato filling. My friend and I were greeted right away as we walked into the premise, which was nice. We were seated and were asked what type of bread we wanted. The flavors were delicious, the chicken tikka masala had the perfect amount of spice for me I don't like Indian food too spicy so maybe for somebody native it might not be spicy enough. Goat - it's what's for dinner! Wait..., what? When in Rome, I always say! So I dove in head first! I didn't bother dipping my toe in first, I took the plunge! And since I'm seemingly "Piling On," there are no real kid friendly food options and the spumoni ice cream for dessert was rock hard. As if it were old and possibly freezer burnt. Wow my first review in Albuquerque and it's an Indian restaurant?!? Ah well duty calls and when you take a client to lunch and say you are on a SEE food diet, the locals often opt for exotic fare they don't always eat. Well the thing is my client wound up having to manage a work related issue and bailed, but that didn't stop me from coming in anyway. The buffet looked solid so off I go. Tried everything except the beef dish the tandoori chicken and none of the deserts. Everything was really full of flavor but lacked heat. That's ok because they had the various sauces to help bring the flame. The rice in a big cooker often replenished and various veggie dishes that were awesome and filling too. They had a dish that resembled chicken tiki masala but they called it something else. The nice touch was your choose of plain or garlic naan accompanied by mini dosas, all you can eat. And hot chi accompanied the lunch buffet as well. This is a very modern clean and upscale restaurant. A young family came in and the son said he was very hungry. So just as I was leaving they brought him a 5 foot dosa that was as big as he was tall. The look on his face was priceless. Obvious a lunch spot for nearby business but likely a locals regular place as the owner seemed to know many patrons by name. Dosa and nan are hard to get. Rude customers--- complaining about buffet items empty when they visit. I think, cooking is meticulous, takes time and the restaurant becomes overpacked during weekend buffet.
