First thing to say - I love this place. This is my local takeaway,
I've been coming here for well over a decade and I've never had a bad
meal, EVER. If anyone who lives within a 10 mile radius of me goes to
another curry house I always tell them they need to switch to this
one. And they rarely look back. I feel a bit bad for all the other
curry houses but if they can't find a fan as loyal as me well, that's
their problem.
We started with pints of Cobra for the boys and a gin and tonic for
me. The best thing was when the waiter brought it and said 'did you
want that to be a double' and I said yes. He went back to the bar and
they put more in, I have a sneaking suspicion it was already a double
and had now been made a triple. Thumbs up. They also put lime it in
rather than lemon. Double thumbs up smiley face.
Four normal and four spicy popadoms devoured in double quick time,
lovely and light and crispy with four different 'things' (technical
term) to dip them in. Then the order - I had a chicken pathia puri to
start which was, as Nigella might say, nomalicious. We then had a few
different dishes - chicken tikka bhuna, murghi massala, sag aloo,
mutha paneer, mahi massala, pilau rice and peshwari naans. For those
of you who wouldn't dream of having salmon in an Indian restaurant -
you are missing out. You may think that the spicing doesn't go well
with fish, you would be totally wrong.
The food here is delicately spiced, non greasy and subtle. Just don't
try to kiss anyone later and expect a positive response.
With another few rounds of drinks added on the bill came to just over
£100 for four people - total bargain. And they have a mirror with a
tiger printed on it next to the bar which is probably my favourite
thing ever. I took a picture just for you guys.
This place has been here since the 1960s and is always packed -
there's a reason for that. Accept no substitute. Word up. read more
