I don't know if the chef had changed or cost cutting had led to noticeable changes but it wasn't to the standard of before. The lamb biriyani had tough pieces of meat and as my guests discreetly pointed out the cuts were not the best that had been purchased. The prawn curry portion was half the size it used to be and tasted as it would from any local curry house, it no longer had that marinated depth of flavor. The first sweet lassi was ok but towards the end of the evening when a second was ordered all three of us could see the difference it had been watered down and tasted different. Both the naan and the tandoori paneer lacked the smoky taste of being cooked in a tandoor as it used to taste before, either the tandoor has gone, wasn't working or this chef isn't as adept at bringing the flavors out. Another sign of cost cutting is our table initially only got two chutneys, the table adjacent had four, I asked why and our server said that's only if you order papadums, later I asked for the four chutneys to be brought so my guests could try which were happily brought over but I don't know if they were complimentary or if they were added to the bill because our server at the end of the meal gave a total amount and the credit card machine whereas previously mints and the itemized bill would be presented first so one could check all was in order.

I am happy to accept that Khan's eclectic style of economy continues grow rapidly and its local success is sometimes underscored and overshadowed. Overall, it's history has only just begun to record the immeasurable difference in world heritage. The food was bland, and luke warm and very expensive. I ate in a long room, which was rather uncharacterful except for the red lights beaming to the ceiling, their was little else to set to scene. Open kitchen and large grill in the front with some of the meats and vegetable dishes on display - all looking mouth wateringly good. It's also clean, bright and well organised and everyone is busy and active. Needoo serves Punjabi cuisine (Pakastani & Indian). Dishes sampled last night included: - Mixed veg Allo gobi with meltingly soft aubergine, pepper, cauliflower, potato with a delicate slightly smoky flavour. - Meat biryani: slow cooked, fragrant, tender. - Baby chicken masala: perfect spicing and flavours with tender tasty chicken. - Lahori chana (chick peas) which were also meltingly soft and delicious with smoky galicky and spice flavours. Even the zeera rice (with cumin seeds) was full of flavour. - Complimentary salad for the table and papodoms at the start. On previous visits I have also tried the lamb chops which arrive on a sizzling iron platter emitting spicy chilli smoke that was pretty potent. The lamb chops were probably just as good as the legendary Tayyabs, just around the corner. Actually, I think the food in general at Needoo was a touch better than Tayyabs (have only been to Tayyabs once but felt a bit like being on a conveyor belt). Only possible downside I can think of is that some of the dishes can be a bit oily but not sure this is a real downside since it probably wouldn't be the same otherwise. This isn't a diet destination. A TV showing Bollywood MTV and proper air conditioning add to the unpretentious ambience. It can get busy at peak times but if you go early there's no wait. Great, efficient service too. It's BYOB which is good (just remember beforehand since there aren't too many places to buy beer in the immediate vicinity). So 5 stars for all round excellent food, service and great value.
