The food is good. Been here in December and July and had odd experiences both times. In December it was customers getting mad at me because they overheard my conversation. Nothing inappropriate, they were somehow pissed at me that management sat them 3" from my table instead of elsewhere. Today I went in with a group of 10. BIG mistake! The waiter/manager was pissed at us and really rude about taking our order. Made us order all our entrees at once, then our sides. Didn't bother to know who got what and splitting the bill had to be done by us with waiters hovering over. No matter how many times we asked and tried to explain, they just didn't want to be helpful at all. I guess if you're going to go by yourself and not talk or 2 of you are going to go, and one pay while being silent, its OK. Been to other Indian places in London. It's a shame this is the one that has to be near King's College and conveniently located. But I won't be back. read more

Stopped at this Indian restaurant on the way to a show at the Lyceum Theatre. The windows are tinted so it looks dark and not extremely welcoming from the outside, but it's actually not that intimidating and really not expensive considering the ambiance i.e. tablecloths, wait staff. I ordered the butter chicken entree which is £8.95 plus some garlic naan because I must always have bread. The food came out within 15 minutes. The naan size is smaller than at home in the States but the curry portions are generous. I could've taken some more heat in the butter chicken but still wholeheartedly enjoyed the mild rich creamy sauce. Total for two came out to £30-some. I think this restaurant can be easily and erroneously overlooked. read more

The staff came across as incredibly rude and expect you to order a full meal within minutes of sitting down -- otherwise you are told you need to leave and can only get take out. And there was no effort to explain their process / they projected extreme impatience.... We wanted some Indian food, and ran across this place. Wow! Amazing food, quick service. We were fortunate to find it! We had the appetizer sampler, which had a lot of great options. Rude ! Not Indian ! Bad food ! So on our London trip we asked our taxi driver if there was any Indian restaurant near our hotel (Westminster area) and he took us at some ghetto place ( you will be robbed) that kinda place. So we went in anyways, place was dull, few non Indian local people eating there, 3 waiters who were extremely rude and unwelcoming. We sat down and asked them questions about daal fry and he asked. What do you think it will be ? He said "if it's daal fry, obviously it's fried dal" anyways they kept going and we were late and hungry. Ordered anyways. Food was worse, it didn't taste like Indian at all. Later I found it they were Bangladeshi and not sure how and why they are still in business with such a dull / rude / unwelcoming place. read more

Service is good, the waiters are nice, though the food is average. The restaurant, though located under a bridge, has a nice atmosphere inside. I went there the other day and ordered take-away. When my food came, they held open the door and thanked me for coming. I reminded them that I hadn't paid yet, and they were a bit embarrassed. I had easily the most tasty biryani of my life at this restaurant. I tend to eat more vegetarian when I can, so seeing a vegetable biryani on the menu piqued my interest, especially when it said it came with a side of vegetable curry and raita. Everything tasted fresh and had a flavorful mix of spices. If I wasn't sharing some of the dish, I would have easily had leftovers. It seemed like a good deal to me for under £9. I also had a half pint of draft beer which helped cut some of the spice since I'm a bit of a spice wimp. The staff was friendly and helpful. In London, it seems trolls aren't the only thing to be found under bridges, there's also pretty good Indian food to be had. I left my nearby hotel in search of decent curry nearby -- letting Yelp be my guide. Of course, I thought I was going to some place called Radjoot, but I guess that establishment is no more. Fortunately, despite it's very un-Indian name, The Thames was the real deal. The servers were very polite, if not a bit soft-spoken. That said, if there wasn't a complete wing nut 3 tables over nattering on about dead fish, fat Americans and donuts, I may have been able to hear better, but as usual, I digress. I was given papadam and four chutneys which were fairly unique compared to what I was used to: Indian pickles, some orange sauce, a mint sauce and something akin to cole slaw. The pickles had a definite bite to them and it was then that I knew this place was the real deal. The samosas I ordered came fairly quickly. The insides were a vibrant saffron, though a bit under-seasoned. The shell was oddly doughy-tasting and didn't seem to be battered with chick peas as would be the usual preparation. So if you have a gluten allergy, ask questions. Since I wasn't going to miss an opportunity to have chicken tikka masala in London, I went with my old standby, asking for it hot. The waiter seemed confused, so I clarified, "I want it spicy." He replied that "chicken tikka masala isn't spicy, it's very mild," I said, "I know, and if you can make it spicy I'd appreciate it." He then said "OK, medium spicy then?" OK, so I guess I needed to be more resolute, "no, very very spicy Please.." I ain't too proud to beg. Fortunately, they got it right. Indian food's not hot enough if it doesn't make your eyes water and your nose run. Mission accomplished. The sauce was perfect, not too tomatoey, not too creamy, and full of the complex spice blend you'd expect in a good curry dish. The garlic naan, though very soft and fluffy, wasn't terribly garlicky, which is unfortunate because you sort of want something that can stand up to the zing of the masala sauce. So was it perfect? No. But all said it was a good experience and I'd definitely come back next time I'm in London. read more

One of the oddest culinary experiences I've had! This was a very unusual meal - describes as rich and flavoursome by the restaurant itself, this hits the nail on the head.... Although I'm not sure what we were actually getting, the favour combinations were very unusual. Slightly frustrated that as we were waiting for a friend and were hungry we had to argue with them to order a mixed starter as they wanted to 'take the whole order'. The mixed starter (a very meagre potion of onion bhajee, haryal tikka, achari tikki, Lamb Tikka, sheek kebab), was okay and whilst tasting good, was pretty small and nothing worth writing home about. The chutneys with the poppadum's were great however. For the main we ordered and shared the Goan fish curry (which I really didn't like at all), and sides zafrani paneer kofta (a curd cheese in a creamy sauce that was very sweet), mushroom rice, roti, plain naan, raitha (yogurt to cool down the spice) and bagare baingon (Aubergine). Portion sizes are appropriate and the and seemed to be good quality for money. Everything was 'very interesting', so it was a fun experience, however I was a little confused as to what was what, and whilst everything seemed fresh, I'm not sure I would rush to come back here just for that. However with the limited choice you have in the area, this is one of the better restaurant options that I've come across. read more

Food: Decent, albeit sweeter than Indian traditionally should be. Papadum servings were generous. Entree portion sizes were lacking. Non-alcoholic drinks were served in a half pint glass, which felt like a waste of money. Overall the food was decent but felt lackluster for the price paid. Service: Mediocre. The manager was discourteous and downright pushy to guests. We, a party of two, were notified AFTER we had ordered that we should've ordered more food to make our patronage worth his time. The other waitrons were generally respectful. Bottom line: Go to a different Indian restaurant. This establishment is enough to leave a bad taste in one's mouth to the otherwise very rich and hospitable culture of Indian cuisine in London. read more

I should have listened to my fellow Yelpers and kept walking! However, my husband and I were famished and Indian/ Pakistani food sounded good. We walked into The Thames without reservations and was immediately greeted by our waiter rolling his eyes at us. He sat us next to a couple that was 3" away but there was 6-8 empty tables. The 6-8 tables were never used during our experience. The food was descent but nothing special. The waiter had an attitude throughout the entire service and made us feel very uncomfortable. He refused to serve us water due to one of wanting flat and the other sparkling. The waiter refused to answer questions about the menu. Another waiter must have felt sorry for us. He came over and helped with menu questions after our waiter left the table. Do yourself a favor and keep walking by The Thames, I wish we would have. read more

We were walking around the Waterloo tube stop, looking for an Indian restaurant and stumbled upon this place. Glad we did! The food here was very good as well as the service. We tried their pre-fix menu, which allowed us to sample various courses (appetizers, entrees and dessert). I enjoyed the cozy atmosphere, because this is a small restaurant located under a bridge. If we are ever at the Waterloo tube stop in London, we will have to eat here again. read more

On my honeymoon I wanted to make sure that my husband and I experienced a taste of Indian in London. We were tight for time to make it to our booked time for The Eye, but they had no issue accommodating our "under an hour" constraint. The garlic naan was very well flavored and a nice size for two people to share. Chicken Tikka was very good with the right spices. Only comment was that the Chicken Masala was too sweet for my liking, I chalked that up to forgetting to mention the medium level of spicy I wanted, and that it's just how they do it there. My family was seeing a play at the National Theater and wanted a good Indian meal beforehand. Chose The Thames because it was close. That was a bad choice. SENT MY FRIEND TO THE HOSPITAL My friend has a nut allergy, and checked three times that her chicken dish was nut-free. Shortly after her first bite, she got really quiet and left to use her epi-pen in the bathroom. We made to leave for the hospital (as required after an epi-pen shot) and saw that the waiter was drawing up our bill. We informed him of the situation, and all the waitstaff were strangely nonchalant about it with no apologies. I paid for the food because they were staring at me and I didn't want to feel like a dine-and-dash-er. £25 for food that we didn't get to eat. 3 or 4 hours later she threw up in the hospital. We got home exhausted at like 4:30am after the whole thing. We never got a chance to go back and ask for a refund, or any sort of apology. Thank god for NHS. read more

Indian food is something I enjoy a lot. This restaurant is a great place to get it. The restaurant itself is cozy and warm with mouthwatering smells of Indian spices wafting from the kitchen. The food is great, and you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The one thing that was sort of a letdown was the attentiveness of the service. It took at least 30 minutes for our water to come. Otherwise, the service was great. Our servers were very kind, and gave us multiple helpful recommendations. I highly recommend the Tandoori Chicken and the Chana Masala. Overall, this is a place that is worth eating at. read more

Went last night. Nice place and actually better than Aladin on Brick Lane. Had chicken masala and lamb curry. Both were on the good side of average. The lamb dish curry had real potential as the curry was excellent...lamb was a tad tough. Great for dipping naan. And then he comes back later tells us that they can't make any breads. We were constantly rushed to order because they wanted to close early. This is a Bangladeshi restaurant. While the food is very similar to "Indian" knowing this will help you set expectations. The food is sweet, at least all the dishes we ordered tasted like a Bengali dessert. The pappadam with chutney and pickle was the best dish. I could only discern the overwhelming sweetness. If you have never eaten Indian food, this is a type of Indian, may be you will like it. I so felt like giving them a gift of a spice box. To me any cuisine if done well will appeal and hit the spot, sadly this did not. But all said it is not terrible food especially if you don't know Indian food and hungry, tough if you are in London. Service was ok and timely. To summarize this is a disservice to well known popular dishes since they have deviated so much. read more

I'll echo my fellow Texan with "terrible customer service." First, we ordered 2 mango lassis and one sweet lassi. When the server brought them out, he only had 3 mango lassis. We reminded him of our order, and instead of apologizing and changing it, he just insisted that the mango lassi WAS the sweet lassi. Obviously, mango lassis and sweet lassis are two different things, and on their own menu, they list the 3 - mango, sweet, and sour separately, so obviously it was just a mistake that they didn't want to admit for whatever reason. Then we came to realise that we might be late for a show we had tickets to, and let them know that (didn't even actually ask them to bring the food out early - just to be mindful). The manager came up to us and berated a member of our party about not telling him earlier. But the food was brought right out after and seemed to be cooked fine, so there didn't seem to be any need for that kind of treatment. If he had asked in a nicer, gentler way to let him know next time or informed us it may not be possible, that would be one thing, but he was unnecessarily aggressive right off the bat. The manager yelled at us again completely unnecessarily when a member of our party asked about their takeaway policy. Well, maybe it's just a cultural thing for us Americans, except the British member of our party (who got the bulk of the abuse) was the first to mention how rude they were, and I haven't experienced service like that anywhere else in the UK. The lower-level waitstaff were attentive and polite, though. Overall, the food was not worth the treatment. read more
