Great little hole in the wall. We ordered the chicken tika misla and a perfectly spiced curry. This was a real nice burn if your into that. The rice and naan were a great compliment to go with the rest of the meal. The wait staff was pleasant and fast, a great indian spot in London!

Interior: Very interesting and had a club vibe. Not something most Indian restaurants give you the vibe of in the states. Walk down stairs to what appears to be an old nightclub/lounge turned Indian restaurant. Very dark, sexy vibes, but again unexpected. Service: 5 stars, we arrived late after viewing a play across the street but were seated quickly with friendly service throughout our dinner. They offered great suggestions and were friendly. No issues there. Food: 4 stars, pretty good authentic Indian food. Overall a good meal of the usuals, chicken tikka masala (nice and creamy white meat chicken), white rice, and naan. Tasty! Pricing is probably why I couldn't give this place 5 stars. I bit steep for what you get. For example the naan bread wasn't cheap and they give you 2 pieces. Normally places give about 4. I think this place is good if your in the area but probably cheaper options if you go a bit further down the block. It was super convenient though because they were open late.

It's smoked aubergine mash with ginger, chili, and cumin. The texture is wonderfully smooth and it tastes very flavorful with all the spices. Has a kick to it. Steamed Basmati rice is nice a fluffy - well done Mint Leaf! The "Mixed Grilled Platter" comes with prawns, chicken, salmon, ground beef, and paneer. All very delicious and some are a bit spicy. You wouldn't expect to have salmon as part of this platter since it is focused on kabobs but you will be pleasantly surprised! :) Naan was very tasty - good consistency Desserts are not bad but also not extremely memorable either. They are nicely plated though.

We dipped warm naan bread into a delicious spinach paneer that tended to the sweet side with warm tofu-like cheese chunks for a starter and followed that with a chicken curry and bhaag malaam (or something like that) that were well seasoned and very yummy. Two hot cups of Indian tea on a cool day and we were happy, well-fed campers! There were about 6 tables downstairs, two in the front window. They filled up quickly after that show but there is also extra seating upstairs, where it is much quieter. The waiters were fine, but unenthused about their jobs and rather loud, talking over all the patrons on their cell phones in the back of the restaurant. At one point, I joked that they were ordering out our dinner from another restaurant...and then it arrived! Cooked on site and delicious. I would go back if in the area.

The glass my tap water came in smelt like cigarettes from the waiters not washing their hands, and the popadoms were cooked in rancid oil, so were bitter and stale. We were so unhappy by this point we tried to cancel our order (2 mins after we had ordered) but they said the food was already ready (also very worrying that it took two minutes to cook 2 curries). We unwillingly paid and left with our food in bags, and put it straight in the bin.

It has to be some of the best Indian food I've had outside of India. The little complimentary chai while you wait in line is such a thoughtful touch and really sets the tone. Even though there was a queue, it moved surprisingly quickly. Once inside, the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. As for the food... every dish we ordered was outstanding. Rich flavors, perfectly balanced spices, and you can tell a lot of care goes into every plate. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. If you're in London, don't overthink it. Just get in line, enjoy the chai, order what sounds good, and have a fantastic meal. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town.

In my opinion, there are 2 main things to know about Dishoom: it's an Indian restaurant that is a chain, with 11 locations worldwide. The food is really good for a chain, bit it doesn't begin to come close to a restaurant that takes care of of its individual customers. Walking in, there's lots of energy. People are having a good time, there's no question. We were seated upstairs where there must have been around 40 tables. All of the staff are walking around in a hurry, cause everything here is in a hurry. The intention is to get you our in less than an hour. They want you in, through, and out. I saw this with multiple tables. Our server Yanko came to our table quite promptly and helped us make selections, both for food and drinks. For the first time in my experience eating in a restaurant, the appetizers arrived minutes before our cocktails. They came so fast that we didn't even think it was our order. And then moments after the drinks arrived, all of the main dishes and sides were placed on the table. With no way to keep anything warm. All of this with 10 minutes of placing the order. I appreciate prompt service, but this takes it to an absurd extreme. Our appetizers included the house Chaat and prawn koliwada. I enjoyed the prawns more but the flavors were facile, not close to what I expect and have enjoyed in excellent Indian restaurants. The main dishes were the Goan monkfish curry and Sali Goan. These were also just OK, absolutely nothing special. The cheese naan was soggy, though the flavor was good. This was an unacceptable texture for a naan. Dessert was Basmati Kheer, flavorful Basmati rice with fruit compote on top. In between and unneeded, was a thin layer of creme brulee. I did enjoy my tea: ginger, lemon and honey and my wife liked her mint tea. I do not know the restaurant scene in Edinburgh, we've been here for 4 days. But this is just not a place I'deven consider returning to. It's really a factory that feeds folks, not a restaurant that cares for its customers. The business model had been optimized to maximize income with lots of throughput. What's been almost completely lost in my opinion, is the heart and soul of the dining experience.
