I didn't go in because the baby was asleep in the car, so I can't really give input on the customer service or decor. For the food, I had huge hopes because my husband told me this place has the best BBQ in the area. He got the brisket "burnt ends sandwich", Mac and cheese and beans. His was good. The meat was tender, beans were a good combo. The Mac and cheese was a 6/10. I ordered pulled pork sandwich and I'm pretty sure I got the pork bbq thats sold in those big white tub. The bun (which was different than the bun on my husband's sandwich) was awful. I had to toss it to the birds. The pork was fine, but again, wasn't the high quality I expected after his huge praise. Honestly after 3 bites, I didn't finish. Since his was good and mine was a bust I'm meeting it in the middle. I'll definitely have to try something different if I come back, but I might also just go down to Southland.

SOOOOOO good, we had sliced brisket, pork, ribs, and pulled chicken 10/10!! Side options were great, we had Mac & cheese, fried okra, green beans and hushpuppies. Even bought a bottle of sauce to take home, will definitely be stopping here again!! Outdoor pavilion seating with our dog was a wonderful experience.

Really authentic North Carolina bbq. Chopped pork sandwiches & really good hush puppies. We agreed the Mac and cheese had really nice consistency but needed some seasoning. The sauces are really stand out and we also had some chicken chunks that I would suggest skipping. The sweet potato casserole was really sweet and a treat for sure. Location is between Chesapeake and the OBX so a little bit of a drive if you're in Hampton Roads, Elizabeth City location may be closer. To be fair we only had the chopped brisket and chopped pork for sandwiches. I wish it was more smoked but still very good. The location had really pretty outdoor seating so I'd still recommend the location if you're up for a quick bite. We didn't try any of the other sides so I can't say how they are but the hush puppies were absolutely amazing!!! For the price it was a good option for something to grab on the way home from the OBX.

Really good Eastern NC BBQ. Exactly what you'd want and expect in Carolina BBQ, smoky, salty and peppery with creamy slaw. Sides were excellent too. Great spot for lunch on the way down to the OBX from the 757.

Food here is really good. Affordable prices, very polite staff, portions are average. Restaurant interior is old but clean, and it is a great stop on the way to the beach. Highly recommend.

Absolutely delicious BBQ! We drove from Chesapeake at the recommendation of new friends and we were not disappointed. We tried burnt ends, pulled pork, pulled brisket, French fries, sweet potato casserole, Mac and cheese, baked beans, hot dog, hush puppies, and potato salad. Every single meat and side was phenomenal. Perfect pricing, perfect portions. Service was awesome and they were kind and friendly. Building is older, but it adds to the small town bbq ambiance. Zero complaints. We will be back and highly recommend it!

A place you don't want to miss

We didn't take any pictures of our food because it was so good we ate it up fast and even had a second helping. I am so glad we stopped The Hushpuppies were the best I have ever had; sweet tasting, yummieness. Would definitely stop again! Plus, the staff was very friendly and the restaurant was nice and clean.

If you get the pulled pork sandwich, hushpuppies and fries it is PERFECTION. I could absolutely eat my weight in hushpuppies. THEY ARE LITTERALL THAT GOOD. The platters are not as good as my VA Beach local spot Im in love with so I will have to give them a solid 4. When we asked for Brisket I thought it would be a chunk of brisket. It was pulled meat. That is ok but I am spoiled when it comes to BBQ. They have a few sides to choose from. The potato salad is good but It taste like everyone else. Stick with the pulled pork sandwich and hushpuppies and you will be fine. DONT FORGET THE HUSHPUPPIES!!!!!! I'm hungry just talking about them.

I love stopping here halfway between the airport and OBX. I got the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw, extra slaw on the side and beans. tastes exactly the same every single time. Be sure to add some Texas Pete's and it is the best BBQ sandwich.

We were traveling back to Norfolk from the OBX, and though I was full because we had already eaten, I decided to stop and purchase a bottle of their North Carolina style BBQ sauce. The place was bustling and everyone appeared to be enjoying their food. I tried the sauce when I made it home to Louisiana and really enjoyed it. If I'm ever in the area again I'll definitely try some of the meats.

Delicious. And the young man that waited on me was so kind. We loved the banana pudding too - what a nice treat.

The lemonade was made on the spot to ensure freshness. I got the fried fish of the day, which happened to be flounder. It came with two side, I got the cucumber salad and pasta salad. Also ordered the BBQ Platter with fries and coleslaw. Both plates came with cornbread. They were great! Wanted to try as many sides as possible and was not disappointed. Got a brownie to go because their dessert case is strategically by the register to pay out. I was already entirely too full because the flounder was the size of my head, but everything in the dessert case looked way too enticing! There were so many pies... pecan, coconut, peanut butter. I would've got a pie if I wasn't headed to the beach. Brownie is being saved for later after a big ole nap in the sun.

The food was an OK. My pulled pork had a smoky taste but was definitely dry. In a state known for pork BBQ, this was average at best. The slaw, however, tasted very fresh and was not mayonnaisey ; I liked it. The hand-cut fries were OK, but would have been excellent if they had been hot. My dining companion's burger was cooked as requested and she thought it was very good. Service was OK, but definitely not overly attentive. Compared to prices down the road in Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head, the restaurant is a good value. Based on our experience, BJ's Carolina Cafe mainly caters to a local crowd. All in all, it's fine, especially if it's nearby or on your way to/from Outer Banks.

BLUF: Great seafood and even better entertainment provided by the ICW…read more Coinjock Marina never disappoints. Pro tip - sit at the bar outside and have a front row seat to action on the Intracoastal Waterway. The outside tables have an obstructed view due to the high top bar. The food at Coinjock Marina is always good. On my most recent visit I got the blackened grouper sandwich which was tasty. It's a thin filet on a hoagie roll so I cut half the roll off and folded the grouper over to increase my fish to bread ratio. Service was attentive and friendly. The highlight for me is always seeing the boats parade through the ICW. I don't know if I've just been lucky but on my visits I've been fortunate enough to see super yachts there. Most recently it was the 110' Morningstar yacht and watching it hold position in the canal before surging forward to move to the bulkhead was fascinating. It was already high tide and this vessel single-handedly sloshed water out of the ICW. It reminded me of when I do a cannonball in the pool. For those not wanting to sit outside, there is an indoor dining room and full bar. As far as I know, the marina still offers other services like fuel and laundry. As a non-boat owner, I go for lunch and drinks.
