Excellent meal here while passing through Elizabeth City. Nice menu, food well-prepared and authentic. I had the chicken sandwich. Visitors, try the Cheerwine, an NC tradition.

    Burnt Ends by the Pound

Arrived at Currituk BBQ in Elizabeth City on a rainy Tuesday night. There was a healthy line waiting to order food to go and to dine in. It had been a long day of driving in the rain and I was ready for a BIG dinner. I ordered a hot dog and fries off the kid's menu (part of my effort to get a hot dog in every county in NC) and a pound of the burnt ends. Now the burnt ends were listed as marked price but I was still shook when the cashier gave me my total and it was $40. After a quick double take, I offered my form of payment and went to wait for my order. My number was called and as I got the tray, I realized that a pound of burnt ends was a LOT of meet. Just, a whole container. I probably didn't need all that (in fact, I had leftover for the lunch the next day), but it smelled amazing. Since the hot dog here is just off the kid's menu, don't expect any fancy toppings. Mustard and ketchup worked for me. The fries were good, crispy and well-seasoned. The burnt ends were great. Fall apart tender. I enjoyed trying the different sauces available. As mentioned, burnt ends and fries became my lunch for the next day. I'd return to Currituck BBQ and would get the burnt ends again, to share!

Got the platter special. It was pretty good. Their fries are honestly perfect. The sweet tea is delicious. Fast service. Almost no wait. No complaints about this location, it's clean, spacious, and convenient.

Great ribs deal on Wednesdays! $11.99 for a half rack, two sides and hush puppies. I also got a little glutinous and ordered some banana pudding. Ribs delicious, desert delicious, side dishes eh. Really tender, large ribs. Very delicious bbq sauce options. I will return!!

Service is friendly, the restaurant is very clean, and the food was good. As a North Carolinian (now residing in Maryland) bbq is a must upon every visit home. This visit was a college visit in a part of NC I do not normally frequent, but still Bbq won the dinner vote. Food was just ok. The sandwich was kinda soggy even thought it was fresh made. Green beans were so yummy, but the sweet potato soufflé was very very sweet. 3 bites and I could not finish. Don't get me wrong, it was good! But I could only eat so much. Price point was good too, 3 of us are full meals for around $10 a person.

The BBQ was actually great. The side items not so much. Lacked the seasoning I'm normally used to. Otherwise good place to dine or take-out.

Customer service is terrible. Serving sizes are small. Speed of service is slower than a sloth. Not a welcoming environment.

Food was overcooked, resembling baby food. Flavor was mediocre. We have been to the one in Barco numerous times & really liked it.

Currituck BBQ makes the most delicious barbecue and ribs. They have catered for us too for a wedding reception and it was a real hit.

THREE TIMES IN... AND BARLEY'S IS ON POINT AGAIN. SOLD!…read more Let me tell you about the pizza nightmare we've experienced over the last four years of living in a small town. I would have taken a picture but we ate it all! We consider ourselves pizza aficionados (yes, we have standards). We like a good sauce, not an obscene amount of cheese, and a crust that can actually fold when you need it to--but also one that, when you hold it by the crust, doesn't droop like an old man's eyelid. Over the past four years, we've tried our fair share of pizza places in Elizabeth City where we live and every one seems to have had something that just didn't work for us. Too much cheese. Wrong sauce. Soggy crust. You name it. Just YUCK! Now, we aren't the people who bash restaurants or leave negative reviews just because something wasn't our cup of tea. If we're going to take the time to say something, it's because it's GOOD--and, more importantly, CONSISTENT. And Barley's? Three visits in, and they've delivered every single time. The wings deserve a shout-out too! These aren't those weakling, baby-chick wings that leave you wondering where the actual chicken went. They've got some meat on them, and the hot flavor has just the right kick. Now, you're not going to Barley's for fancy ambiance--and honestly, that's perfectly fine with us. We like our house. We pick up our food, put on the game, and eat exactly where we want. So, without a doubt, we are officially happy to report: WE LOVE BARLEY'S. And to all the other pizza guys out there... You might want to keep an eye on this one. Barley's is a silent gem, and word is definitely getting out.

If I was just grading the flavor of the Stromboli - it would have been a 4.5. Right amount cheese,…read moremeat and sauce for the $16 price. The lower rating is for multiple other factors. Starting with the long wait for the delivery - Ordered at 5:35 and received the order at 7:09p. I would understand if it was a busy Fri or Sat night but it's 5:30 on a Wednesday. Then the cheese bread would have been ok but Wow was there a lot of grease in that box (check pics). Then when I went to dip into the marinara - it was ice cold. I ordered a side of ranch but since they sent it in the box w/ the bread & was Luke warm. Just not a good mix. I would give them a try again because of the flavor of the sauce and taste of the Stromboli but next time might dine in.

All 50 wings fit in one to go box and there is hardly anything more than bones. I get $25 is cheap for 50 wings, but not for bones. I ordered the Surf and turf burger which was described as a burger with lump crab on it and an old bay aioli. The burger was two much for the amount of lump crab on it. Two patties with a smear of lump crab. I was informed that was a new item on the menu and the server asked about what would have made it better and I said the same thing I'm telling you ( just one burger Pattie would have been plenty). As an appetizer we ordered buffalo wings which weren't bad but they are breaded and sauced which I prefer naked and sauced. Overall not the worst meal I have had but also not the best.
