So the family came to see our youngest daughter In Elizabeth City. If you have never been to…read moreElizabeth City I can tell you that there is not a lot there but there is this spot called the Mills Downtown Bistro. We visited this eclectic, intimate little spot on a Friday night. We got there just in time to get a table. This place is small, it seats maybe 60 people. It has that homey, country feeling with old style tin ceiling tiles. I felt like we were in a small tavern restaurant in the French countryside. By the look of this little store front restaurant you would think the menu would be the usual bar food. How surprised I was to see a fine dining menu. I order the sweet potato risotto with white wine and rabbit sausage. Let me tell you. This was farm to table fresh. The risotto was a little stiff for me but the sausage made up for it. Savory with a hint of spice on the finish made this sausage melt in your mouth good. My daughter ordered the apple crepe (If you like crepes they have savory and sweet) it was excellent other than the apples weren't peeled so the texture was a little off putting. But I still give them five stars for serving fine french style dining in downtown Elizabeth City!

My wife and I were in town on business and always make a point of seeking out local restaurants…read moreinstead of chain establishments. Based on the excellent ratings on both Google and Yelp, we were genuinely looking forward to trying this place. Unfortunately, when we arrived around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, the restaurant was completely closed. The doors were locked, the lights were off, and there wasn't a sign on the door explaining why. What made it even more frustrating was that their website, Google, Yelp, and even their Facebook page all indicated they were open, and there was no post or notice explaining that they would be closed. I don't normally leave reviews for restaurants I haven't had the opportunity to dine at, but keeping your hours up to date is an important part of customer service. If you need to close unexpectedly, a quick update on Google or social media--or even a simple note on the door--goes a long way and saves customers a wasted trip. I'm leaving a three-star review in the hope that this serves as constructive feedback. We'll gladly give the restaurant another chance if we're back in the area, but I hope future guests have a more accurate idea of whether the restaurant is actually open before making the drive. To those about to nosh, we salute you! Hopefully your trip here ends with a meal instead of a locked door.

It's a very clean and quaint establishment with cute sayings and decorations on the walls. My husband ordered the Shipwreck sub and I ordered the In and Out sub as a salad. The subs are very well made on soft rolls with a perfect amount of meat, cheese and veggies. He said it was very delicious! The salad was so filling it was enough for lunch and dinner! The ingredients were fresh and tasty! As we waited, my husband tried their homemade Fruity Pebble ice cream and then got a waffle cone!! I tried their vanilla and it was the freshest ice cream I've tasted! While we waited, the owner, who makes the ice cream, made a watermelon sorbet for another guest and gave me a taste ... oh my gosh it was perfect like a watermelon jolly rancher! We ordered my daughter a ham and turkey sub and she was able to eat it for lunch and dinner. She said it was great! The pasta salad was very tasty as well!! The staff was so friendly and helpful! They worked quickly and gave each order their whole attention. They didn't have cookies available the day we went BUT we will be back and will try their delicious looking cookies! Give them a try I promise you will not be sorry ... you'll only be sorry for not going sooner! A+ from start to finish!!

I just assumed it would be a standard patty melt. I ate the onions and some of the beef and shared the rest with my dogs. Money down the drain.

THREE TIMES IN... AND BARLEY'S IS ON POINT AGAIN. SOLD!…read more Let me tell you about the pizza nightmare we've experienced over the last four years of living in a small town. I would have taken a picture but we ate it all! We consider ourselves pizza aficionados (yes, we have standards). We like a good sauce, not an obscene amount of cheese, and a crust that can actually fold when you need it to--but also one that, when you hold it by the crust, doesn't droop like an old man's eyelid. Over the past four years, we've tried our fair share of pizza places in Elizabeth City where we live and every one seems to have had something that just didn't work for us. Too much cheese. Wrong sauce. Soggy crust. You name it. Just YUCK! Now, we aren't the people who bash restaurants or leave negative reviews just because something wasn't our cup of tea. If we're going to take the time to say something, it's because it's GOOD--and, more importantly, CONSISTENT. And Barley's? Three visits in, and they've delivered every single time. The wings deserve a shout-out too! These aren't those weakling, baby-chick wings that leave you wondering where the actual chicken went. They've got some meat on them, and the hot flavor has just the right kick. Now, you're not going to Barley's for fancy ambiance--and honestly, that's perfectly fine with us. We like our house. We pick up our food, put on the game, and eat exactly where we want. So, without a doubt, we are officially happy to report: WE LOVE BARLEY'S. And to all the other pizza guys out there... You might want to keep an eye on this one. Barley's is a silent gem, and word is definitely getting out.

Starting with the long wait for the delivery - Ordered at 5:35 and received the order at 7:09p. I would understand if it was a busy Fri or Sat night but it's 5:30 on a Wednesday. Then the cheese bread would have been ok but Wow was there a lot of grease in that box (check pics). Then when I went to dip into the marinara - it was ice cold. I ordered a side of ranch but since they sent it in the box w/ the bread & was Luke warm. Just not a good mix. I would give them a try again because of the flavor of the sauce and taste of the Stromboli but next time might dine in.
